A truly captivating conversation between two incredibly talented and influential artists, one of whom I've had the pleasure to meet a few times. Grazie mille Martyn! :)
I grew up in NYC and remember thinking the Dolls were sorta passe. I'd seen Alice Cooper in 70 and 71 and already knew lotsa drag queen hustlers. Always funny now to hear how influential they were. Saw Ultravox at Hurrah's and always admired Foxx more than others in that Ballardian space. What charming and funny men these are.
Regarding the Mods thing, I live in Sheffield and we still get loads of the older guys on scooters driving and meeting up on London Road area. Martyn will know where that is I imagine. Great interview with John by the way.
Dennis Leigh (John Foxx) was my tutor at Leeds.
Lovely chap.
Second gig I saw was Ultravox in1979 doing the Systems of Romance album.Great night and all the punks were going mental to songs like 'Young Savage'.
Can't believe I've missed this fantastic set of interviews. Absolutely incredible. Need to get Vince Clarke on. Also Ron Mael?
