One of my favorite places in the entire world! I first visited Monterey in 1972 as part of a family holiday and have been back several times since. Still love the fresh calamari at Abalonetti's. I was born and raised in New Orleans and I have always said there are very few places I would ever leave my hometown for. Monterey is surely one of those places. I hope to make it back one day very soon.
please dont worry. you are going to have a REALLY good time. i moved here from Los Angeles and I havent looked back since. i couldnt imagine living anywhere else because there is SO much to do and see and its a really beautiful place. i would recommend checking out all of those cities you mentioned. you wont even be able to see everything in that week!
You know when I was a just a kid. I went everywhere in my school field trip. Just to get over there. I AM from Sam Joaquin County. Still enjoy Monterey because of the nice restaurants and such and they have Ghirardelli Square ice cream shop too. A LOT OF PEOPLE from San Francisco go there in Monterey. IT IS SO LOVELY THERE YOU KNOW?????? Why don't any of come down to Monterey just like Oregon??????? Still a lovely place there.
I agree w/ you I was born and raised fourth generation here and moved to Reno, N.V. my aunt who was also born in Monterey moved to Reno, she moved to Reno we were always up here and I love it now. I occasionally go down because I have a lot of relatives that refuse to leave Monterey. Del Monte Beach was the only fun thing running on it. Going to my Grandfather's old Plumbing shop on Wave Street right above Cannery Row before he passed away..
i was stationed at fort ord from 86 to 89 and i can tell you, that it was the best time of my life, monterey carmel big sur, i had 3 years to know that place, i went back in september 2014, to revisit my past, a lot had not changed and i was glad
There is no better place for scenery in the US ! Either 20 miles up the coast or down, and the entire area. 17 mile drive is unbelievable, worth the time and the trip to get there.
Thank you so much for sharing. We're from LA as well and have been wanting to take a trip to Monterey but always end up sticking with our July 4th tradition and going to Santa Barbara for 5 days. You just renewed my faith that we'll have a GREAT time. Your post just made me all the more excited...thank you:-)
Nice videos. I used to live in Aptos, California near Santa Cruz for almost 20 years and I went down to Monterrey from time to time. I lived in Aptos from 1985 till 2004 and I have since moved out to the Lake Tahoe area. I graduated from Aptos High School.
I am Korean. Still my heart belongs to every country and nation in the States. Doesn't matter where I am from. I am from Korea. STILL ENJOY CALIFORNIA. I THOUGHT MONTEREY had plenty of great stuff there.
When do you plan on updating this video? The Fisherman's Wharf sign is gone and the State Parks historic buildings are closed most of the time.......and the charge a fee at some of them now too.
I like Monterey. I am not saying its the 'best' town ever but there are many things to do here. It's not for everyone - some would say boring and others would have very good time here. If you like diving, kayaking and fishing or just hanging around with family than its just might what you need.
More affordable than San Francisco Bay Area but still expensive. Anywhere near the coast expensive. You can live in Salinas, which is about 30 miles inland for cheaper.
@desheldenzugedenken monterey bay aquarium. play a round of golf at pebble beach, spyglass, quail lodge, or poppy hills. go for a walk on the beach. go shopping at cannery row or carmel. eat at some of the best restaurants. my personal favorite thing to do is go looking in the local gun stores or gunsmith shops.
i have to say, i lived in monterey for most of my life, and the tourists get pretty annoying, although, it's all worth it for what it has to offer they should have shown some of the forests to. plus they should have shown some of pg.
THEY DON'T MENTION THE FAMOUS 'MONTEREY JAZZ FESTIVAL' OR 'THE SANTA ROSALIA FESTIVAL'. How could they not mention the Monterey Jazz festival only second to the Newport Jazz Festival on the east coast. I don't remember them mentioning the well known Playhouse on the Wharf and also the Historic playhouse near downtown.
Really? THAT SUCKS cuz my boyfriend and I are going on our first trip to Monterey from 7/2-7/9 2013. We're so excited to see Carmel by the Sea, Big Sur, Monterey and the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. Now I'm worried we're going to be bored out of our minds. Thansk for the insight though:-(
Nostradamus made this prediction about the man from Seaside named Timothy Thomas Rogers (Rodriguez del Tevis) Century VIII, Quatrain 41;" A fox will be elected without speaking one word. Appearing saintly in public living on barley bread. afterwards he will suddenly become a tyrant. putting his foot on the throats of the greatest men."
How Monterey, CA is classified as a Mediterranean Climate is a mystery?? You see, a Mediterranean Climate HAS A LONG SUMMER and Monterey,CA HAS NO SUMMER. Temps hover around 60 degrees in daytime according to weather information, but 60 degrees in Monterey feels like 50 degrees in Illinois!! Fog is what you get in summer here, along with cold, damp miserable temps. Made me laugh whenever I would walk into target and see all the summer clothes, pool toys and pools for sale. My husband and I would get a good laugh and conclude that people here in Monterey are delusional!! The only place you will find Summer in Monterey, CA, is on the shelves at the stores!!
Fun to visit for tourists but to live there is an eternal nightmare. We used to call it Moneytery. It was MISERABLE and well, it was california so that made it even worse.

Have lived in 15 different counties and the last 7 years in Sedona, AZ. I'm back living in Monterey and can't imagine living anywhere else again.
I was stationed at Ft Ord from 1990-1993. I loved Monterey and Carmel. They are 2 of the most beautiful places and so much to do.
Me too.. 1985-86..so wanna get back there
Done that for 6yrs. And there's never a day that I'm not wishing to be back in Monterey. I love it there

Isn't Ford Ord now Cal State Monterey Bay? That would have the coolest place to be stationed when it was still an army base.

It's too cold most of the time

One of my favorite cities.. besides San Francisco!
+Pheap Original Absolutely, I totally agree with you! I love Monterey, and the surrounding area, certainly my favorite city of all time.

Is it affordable to live there?

It is in Pacific Grove.

Wow!!!!!
From what I've seen on line, avoiding your cops (and NOT using a camera) would be a good start. I think we will skip Monterey!
what's wrong with the cops
U say "It's always sunny in Philadelphia" I say, It's always cold in Monterey
Almost all the time
where is all this hate coming from?!

Mid 60's and sunny for the next ten days. I'll take that over 90 degrees and 90 humid any time.
Jennifer
@desheldenzugedenken well, then monterey isn't your place. so stop complaining
What to do? Dodge bums.
I think the tourists are annoying to!
Time to get rid of this one...This is not a good time to come to Monterey.🤣😒😢Video is 10 years old,

Agree. Spent 30+ yrs in Army and home-based out of Ft. Ord. Couldn't afford the local housing market after I retired. Truly paradise though.
