The Monterey Peninsula is a great place to live and visit. I would add to the places mentioned in this video some very important additions including:
    1) Town of Carmel by the Sea. A quaint coastal town minutes from Monterey. Lots of eating choices, unique shops, great architecture, and a vibrant art scene. Drive the local streets to see some of California's most beautiful coastal homes.
    2) Carmel Beach. Definitely one of Californias most beautiful sandy beaches bordered by Carmel and Pebble Beach Golf Resort. Bonus: Dog friendly. No leashes.
    3) Upper Carmel Valley "The Village". Good restaurants and wine tasting with some interesting shops.
    4) Asilomar Beach. A takeoff point on an improved miles long trail over some spectacular coastal scenery on one side and gorgeous Pebble Beach golf courses on the other. Check the tide tables to maximize some truly outstanding tide pool opportunities. Birds and marine mammals are common. Pacific Grove, next to Monterey. Abundant parking along the very scenic Sunset Drive. There are many other hiking opportunities within 5 minutes of Monterey with outstanding forest and ocean views.
5)Kayaking, surfing, swimming, diving are possible everywhere as the Monterey Peninsula includes miles of beautiful rocky coastline. Beware, summer/winter water temperatures range from 53 to 58 degrees. Cold, but there is very good water quality and clarity.
    6) The Recreation Trail in Monterey. This paved tail follows an abandoned railroad track along the beaches and slightly inland from Pacific Grove to Marina. This trail has to be at least 15 miles long. Bike can be rented in Monterey along Cannery Row.
    7. The best weather is the fall months - September to November. The usual coastal fog is gone, the wind dies down, and the air temperature is the most agreeable. The typically cold ocean temperatures tend to increase during this time. I would disagree that April/May (mostly foggy) is the best time although if you are hiking this time is best for wild flowers. Otherwise, the year around temperatures are very moderate.
    8) Lots of whale watching and sport fishing opportunities.
    8) World class golf (think Pebble Beach + many others); one of the nations biggest and best classic car events lasting over a week with events scattered throughout the Peninsula; Formula car racing, motorcycle racing, etc. at Laguna Seca race track; and the Monterey Jazz Festival, Bach Festival, and other multiple day music and festival events.
    9) Nearby Fort Order National Monument has the very best mountain biking in California. Includes hundreds of acres. Only a few miles northeast of Monterey.
There is more. Lots more. Many afford great (free) outdoor opportunities for the entire family and for all ages. The Monterey Peninsula is a very special place and not overly impacted with tourism thanks to a community ethos that like things the way they are and works hard to keep it that way.

There are many shows and auctions scattered around the Monterey Peninsula, CA beginning August 12, 2022 thru August 21, 2022. Many free open events.

Great travel log. Good information. Thanks. We spent our honeymoon in Carmel and toured the 17 Mi Drive and environs some 40 some odd years ago. Now that she has cancer, I plan to take her back there. All the best to you and success to you in your endeavors.

Here’s a little trick to know about the 17 mile drive. Get a local paper, look in the section where the local events/garage sales are. Find one in Carmel and tell them you are going to it. They will let you in for free

These are all some of my favorite spots for hiking or just visiting. I frequent Garrapata and Point Lobos... as well as Monterey and Pacific Grove! Great content! If you haven't visited the Big Sur/Gorda area...I would highly recommend! Not sure what's open right now. Limekiln is a favorite! Pfeifer is another... lots of off the highway trails... and don't forget San Simeon for the elephant seals! I'd love to see these places from your points of view! ❤

Agh if only this was a month ago haha I was just there! I agree with all of those places and I went mid January and it was gorgeous! Flowers, palm trees, minimal tourists. I even went snorkeling without a wet suit and found some incredible things (Most people would find the water too cold but I'm from the Northeast... so def use a wet suit I guess haha). That place was remarkable!

    Really enjoyed these sights!ty.❤
I loved the highway 1 from SF to Big Sur in 1984 November. Caught the sunset at Big Sur, loved Monterey coast,
    Painters' Point at sunset.
I still have 35mm color slides to create oil paintings from.
It was very beautiful but also extremely windy with ocean spray at times in November.🤣

I enjoyed the effect of the finest ocean spray on my 35mm camera lense. The slightly blurred photos of Monterey still appear very beautiful, sort of "romantic dream like" quality at sunset, yet quite distinguished and all natural.🤣✌️❤️💫

The 17 Mile Drive should be driven in nothing less than a Rolls Royce or Bentley; a Mercedes if one must. The homes there are palatial and visitors who gawk at these mansions from any car less than a Rolls just do not belong in that rarified environment.
