I play it for fun, on PC, with some mods. Sure, I don't think I would ever want to.. ahem... pay.. for it.. but some improvements to controls (camera control), and graphics (aided with mods) can be nice. One I especially like, that I'm not sure many people give that much attention to, is the shadows being cast from street lamps and car headlights, it's the kind of detail that shows how you can make some pretty neat looking stuff without ray-tracing. The originals had some of this, from street lights, but it was a more generic square box shadow for the car only, which is still a nice detail, for a game of the era. One can compare it to Driv3r, which had more precise shadow casting, but you could still see it was a lower quality model being used for it. Even something like a car reflecting itself, or other cars, can be done without RT (and I don't mean with Screen Space effects, F#¢k SSR, I hate it soo much). BeamNG does it, for instance. With some of the latest updates in that game, mirrors reflect the car's interior and rear panels when in first person, and in third-person "orbit camera", it doesn't, but the car does reflect other vehicles We don't need ray-tracing for reflecting everything, a mix of cubemaps for reflecting environment, plus some RT for our car can work fine, like in Forza Horizon 5 (though I guess GTA Definitive Edition might be more fun, less frustrating and less manipulative to play in the end, compared to Forza Horizon 5).

I found it to be pretty pointless, especially since it's only noticeable if I pay attention to it. Is it really worth the FPS loss? That depends on everyone's preference. Me? Absolutely not. I'm more of a performance over graphics person. Things like more detailed shadows, reflections, and lighting I'm ok with unless they utilize more than my GPU can handle and drop my FPS. As for GTA DE, I never bothered buying it at all. Not because of its flaws. But because it's redundant, expensive, and because of Rockstar Launcher, of course. That alone is enough. Since I already own the original steam releases, I don't see any point in wasting my money on DE. The best part is that the original releases don't rely on the Rockstar Launcher roulette where sometimes it starts, and sometimes it doesn't unless you keep attempting to do so.

But that also brings some problems of: installing the game, installing some quality of life mods, forgetting some other crucial one and the game's a mess on modern hardware, so I look it up again, mod in some more basic things just to complete the package, small details and stuff, play with for a while, and then, like, on the next week, I go to play, it doesn't work anymore. It can be a bit frustrating.

It's been 3 years since i haven't played the Definitive Editions. I don't regret abandoning it. Also the problem with the police dispatcher constantly talking on and on is a thing since the OG games though only for 3 and Vice City. The dispatch breaks as a result of high frame rate. You can simply experience this by turning off the frame limiter.

I stopped giving Nintendo and rockstar money after I purchased the definitive edition at full price. Did you know about this: after the 3rd update my character can no longer build up his sprint stamina anymore. Vice city still works. Never tried san Andreas because the other two were such garbage. Now I emulate them, 1,000,000 times more enjoyable.

Another issue to add to the list: in Definitive version of GTA III, Rampages are missing from the Stats screen, so you have no idea how many Rampages have been completed. In the original game, Rampages are included in the Stats screen. This issue only applies to GTA III. In the Definitive versions of Vice City and San Andreas, Rampages are listed in the Stats screen.

If the developers would've bothered to do a little bit of research, they would've figured out that some of the building textures come from Marlin Studios texture packs, and that we know of the real locations of a lot of said buildings and/or what they're based on. The police dispatcher is the most annoying thing in gta vice city. She doesn’t even talk English correctly,like pronouncing Ocean beach like Wash your feet. I wish it’s possible to turn it off without third party help. I always wondered who voiced that dispatcher.
GTA Trilogy Defective Edition is a textbook definition of death by a thousand papercuts. Even if all the broken stuff got fixed, all those, admitedly small errors create a huge picture of incompetence. And then, even if those errors didn't exist, I still think that the graphics are just jarring. The combination of upscale 'HD' textures and old low poly models would take me out of the experience if I were to play this version, since there's just no art consistency. The OG releases, despite their outdated graphics look good to this day because they are consistent with their art design, the whole defective edition just looks... out of place.
Fitting to see this right after I finished my 2nd play-through of the San Andreas Definitive Edition about 5 minutes ago. I played day 1 on Xbox One X, and it was literally unplayable at points. I remember I had to restart the entire game because a mission was bugged among other issues. Today on the PS5, the game is not unplayable, but still quite buggy. It is obvious that the devs never played the game all the way through, and never will, because some glitches and issues still exist.
Rockstar don't care, and the games will never be fixed, unless they re-release them using the original code and not be ported copies of mobile versions and they'll make you pay full price AGAIN. Why bother supporting them at this point? They're almost as bad as Ubisoft.
The San Fierro helicopter one could be useful to grind the Criminal Rating Points to get King of San andreas fast in the DE version because there's no replay glitch in it.
All I wanted was to play my childhood games again and have some fun and I cant even do that. Raging cause this shit crashes all the damn time even with the disc. Like I really wish I still had my old PS2. I was stoked on the graphics, but I really just wanted to replay the story modes again. They were great! This game has an insane amount of bugs now it almost takes the fun away from it.

i mean.. gta 6 actually looks really good and for the defective edition it wasn't even developed by rockstar at all. the job was given to a mobile indie games developer Grove Street Games. Not defending rockstar games but i hope they improve upon themselves.
@@Acacius0 first of all grove street games was hired by rockstar and take two and they still approved grove street games' ridiculous job to create the defective edition and yeah gta 6 trailer look good because rockstar wants us to show the good things like their defective edition trailer but once the game will release then you got the chance to play it, analysing it's storyline (which is the most important thing in a video game rather than graphics, physics or realism), the characters, radio, map, side contents etc.. and from the trailer itself you can see gta 6 is gonna be a love journey between the two characters

I play it for fun, on PC, with some mods. Sure, I don't think I would ever want to.. ahem... pay.. for it.. but some improvements to controls (camera control), and graphics (aided with mods) can be nice. One I especially like, that I'm not sure many people give that much attention to, is the shadows being cast from street lamps and car headlights, it's the kind of detail that shows how you can make some pretty neat looking stuff without ray-tracing. The originals had some of this, from street lights, but it was a more generic square box shadow for the car only, which is still a nice detail, for a game of the era. One can compare it to Driv3r, which had more precise shadow casting, but you could still see it was a lower quality model being used for it.
Even something like a car reflecting itself, or other cars, can be done without RT (and I don't mean with Screen Space effects, F#¢k SSR, I hate it soo much). BeamNG does it, for instance. With some of the latest updates in that game, mirrors reflect the car's interior and rear panels when in first person, and in third-person "orbit camera", it doesn't, but the car does reflect other vehicles
We don't need ray-tracing for reflecting everything, a mix of cubemaps for reflecting environment, plus some RT for our car can work fine, like in Forza Horizon 5 (though I guess GTA Definitive Edition might be more fun, less frustrating and less manipulative to play in the end, compared to Forza Horizon 5).
@@rodsk8dude731 I understand your point of view. Personally, I was never interested in RT in the first place. I found it to be pretty pointless, especially since it's only noticeable if I pay attention to it. Is it really worth the FPS loss? That depends on everyone's preference. Me? Absolutely not. I'm more of a performance over graphics person. Things like more detailed shadows, reflections, and lighting I'm ok with unless they utilize more than my GPU can handle and drop my FPS.
As for GTA DE, I never bothered buying it at all. Not because of its flaws. But because it's redundant, expensive, and because of Rockstar Launcher, of course. That alone is enough. Since I already own the original steam releases, I don't see any point in wasting my money on DE. The best part is that the original releases don't rely on the Rockstar Launcher roulette where sometimes it starts, and sometimes it doesn't unless you keep attempting to do so.

But that also brings some problems of: installing the game, installing some quality of life mods, forgetting some other crucial one and the game's a mess on modern hardware, so I look it up again, mod in some more basic things just to complete the package, small details and stuff, play with for a while, and then, like, on the next week, I go to play, it doesn't work anymore. It can be a bit frustrating.

Also the problem with the police dispatcher constantly talking on and on is a thing since the OG games though only for 3 and Vice City. The dispatch breaks as a result of high frame rate. You can simply experience this by turning off the frame limiter.

I stopped giving Nintendo and rockstar money after I purchased the definitive edition at full price. Did you know about this: after the 3rd update my character can no longer build up his sprint stamina anymore. Vice city still works. Never tried san Andreas because the other two were such garbage. Now I emulate them, 1,000,000 times more enjoyable.

The car scale is completely off too, for example you can't fit 2 cars in CJ's garage in the Defective Edition because the scale being off. This is why many of us play the original version downgraded with CLEO because it's just superior in every shape and form. Lol

If the developers would've bothered to do a little bit of research, they would've figured out that some of the building textures come from Marlin Studios texture packs, and that we know of the real locations of a lot of said buildings and/or what they're based on. They wouldn't have to resort to crappy upscaling.

the more errors/bugs we find, the more work the modders have to do to fix this sad excuse of a "definitive edition". And I have full respect for them for keeping this up for 4 years since the release.
I mean the game would be good for an experiment for 5 or 10 €/ $ but not at the normal price at 30 or even more.

I found it weird too at first but now its nostalgic for me
GTA Trilogy Defective Edition is a textbook definition of death by a thousand papercuts. Even if all the broken stuff got fixed, all those, admitedly small errors create a huge picture of incompetence. And then, even if those errors didn't exist, I still think that the graphics are just jarring. The combination of upscale 'HD' textures and old low poly models would take me out of the experience if I were to play this version, since there's just no art consistency. The OG releases, despite their outdated graphics look good to this day because they are consistent with their art design, the whole defective edition just looks... out of place.

Fitting to see this right after I finished my 2nd play-through of the San Andreas Definitive Edition about 5 minutes ago. I played day 1 on Xbox One X, and it was literally unplayable at points. I remember I had to restart the entire game because a mission was bugged among other issues. Today on the PS5, the game is not unplayable, but still quite buggy. It is obvious that the devs never played the game all the way through, and never will, because some glitches and issues still exist.
Rockstar don't care, and the games will never be fixed, unless they re-release them using the original code and not be ported copies of mobile versions and they'll make you pay full price AGAIN. Why bother supporting them at this point? They're almost as bad as Ubisoft.
Rockstar should see your videos and fix all these mistakes and I am not even joking, you are legendary to spot all these.

The San Fierro helicopter one could be useful to grind the Criminal Rating Points to get King of San andreas fast in the DE version because there's no replay glitch in it.
All I wanted was to play my childhood games again and have some fun and I cant even do that. Raging cause this shit crashes all the damn time even with the disc. Like I really wish I still had my old PS2. I was stoked on the graphics, but I really just wanted to replay the story modes again. They were great! This game has an insane amount of bugs now it almost takes the fun away from it.
