  • Original Episode Here:
    Muslim caller Bob calls hosts Forrest Valkai and Eric (S&S) to defend his belief in Islam. Bob presents arguments including Quranic prophecies, scientific accuracy, and the illiteracy of Muhammad. Hosts challenge these claims, pointing out similarities to Christian apologetics and questioning the verifiability of Bob's assertions. The discussion becomes increasingly contentious as it moves to topics such as the problem of evil, God's responsibility for suffering, and the morality of Islamic teachings. The call concludes with a heated exchange.

    • @aceofspades8474
      @aceofspades8474 22 дні тому +1

      I firmly believe people should be held accountable for their religious beliefs. I don’t care if someone believes in a god or not, personally I feel like it’s impossible within the bounds of science to definitively prove a god does or doesn’t exist and it feels equally unexplainable and irrational to assume mass that became the big bag came from nothing/always existed as it is to assume some entity that can do anything came from nothing/always existed, feel free to have whatever belief surrounding that stuff and it’s all chill. When people start saying their god is this tyrannical dictator that demands worship and will eternally punish people who don’t comply I give people the side eye because wtf, why would you want to believe that? Then when they continue and say that that same sky tyrant is actually the most moral being in existence and is the true and only arbiter of right and wrong and therefore is completely morally correct in being an evil tyrant I fully disregard that person as morally bankrupt. People will whine that that’s just their religion and that their religion says they deserve the right to be a bigot or whatever stuff they spew, but the thing is is that you get to personalize your religious belief, so you should be held accountable for the beliefs you choose to have. I was raised Christian, I still consider myself to be Christian as I still believe in a god, but instead of mindlessly parroting ideas from churches or bibles, I’ve come to my own conclusions and my own version of the faith that is personal to me. I don’t believe in a hell because I find damning someone, anyone, to eternal infinite torture and suffering to be the most evil act conceivable, anyone who would do such a thing is evil in my mind and I personally don’t believe in an evil god; I believe god isn’t evil so I choose not to believe that they would do something evil such as that. If I did believe god did that I wouldn’t consider them to be a moral paragon, I’d consider them a supervillain, and I’m not nihilistic enough to believe our world is governed by a cosmic supervillain. If someone believes in a cosmic evil entity while also proclaiming that entity as moral and right, then they’re a bad person and should be called out as such. They choose to believe that and they do so because it aligns with their values, and if those values are evil then that is what they are. The Bible does not bind anyone to believe it, and given how much the Bible contradicts itself the only way to form belief around it is cherry picking, that’s completely fine but then you have to be the one held accountable for what you choose to cherry pick, you can’t turn around and say that it’s just your religion and that you have to follow it when you chose that belief purely of your own accord. Personalize your faith, believe the parts that match your philosophy and discard what doesn’t, you’re free to have that faith but you’re also open to receive criticism of your philosophy, your religion is yours and yours alone, which means the responsibility for the beliefs involved in it is also yours and yours alone.

    This is the rot that religion causes. This is 51 minutes of Bob denying that God is a prick. He lies and obfuscates, deflects and then when pushed into a corner says the victim deserved it. In this scenario, God is a prick but Bob is a malevolent monster because not only does he give God a pass, but he blames the victim and then tries to justify it. Unbelievable. And don't think for a moment that I soften atrocities to be reductive. I still, even subjectively, value human lives and despise harm to them. I just accept its subjectivity because morality-the distinction between right and wrong-is still dependent on an agent to perceive what is right or wrong.
