  • Rundown of the gear I use with my low volume kit and the EAD setup I gig with to monitor my acoustic kit. Playing examples recorded from the EAD directly to the Rec'n'Share app on the iPhone XS.
    *Disclaimer - I work for Yamaha Corporation of America*
    The kit is a culmination of random gear that I have used over the years, more of a "Franken kit" that evolved into a great practice kit. I started playing around with the EAD and pads a few years ago, creating scenes and working with the settings - the module is really flexible and sounds great. I'm not using the recent low volume mesh kits - the scenes are built specifically for pads, the inputs have different assignments for this kit to take advantage of the 3 zone pads.
    The average new price of a new kit with similar components would be around $4600. You can find less expensive options, I've listed the comparable items for reference. My acoustic set has separate hardware that's used for gigs.

    Thanks for this info Joel - really useful! I've been researching the EAD 10 to use with low volume cymbals and mesh heads at home (maybe triggers too). This also nicely shows another way to use it with pads! I may also consider using it live, after watching your video. All the best from the UK! 🙂

    I totally copied this kit... so much more fun than playing rubber cymbals. I don’t miss the $2k module I used to play at all. The EAD10 is awesome

    Is the triggering velocity sensitive at all? or is it just triggering a sample at one set volume.

      All the pads have the full velocity range - the pads have a great touch and feel. The audio gain was bumped up in the video mix - so might sound a bit more aggressive.

    great vid, did you install the low volume update, or are you using the factory firmware? or the 2.0?

      Updated to 2.0 - didn’t add the low volume kits just because I had so many kits already built in the same user banks - the modules pretty easy to use. If you know what type of pad or trigger you’re using the 2.0 firmware includes trigger settings to the DT 50s and mesh heads which is really helpful.

    Joel, are these kits pre-loaded in the EAD10 module?

    • @joeltetzlaff3817

      No - all the sounds are in the module but you can build them - I’ll see if I can add a link to the kit settings in Dropbox.

    I’ve got the EAD10 along with a XP120SD...how are you getting such a great cross stick sound? Mine is so quiet even with the rim gain up. Love to know your settings

    Hi Joel, was wondering if you can customize the sound of the cymbals too to match something closer to a real cymbal with less high pitch?

    • @joeltetzlaff3817
      @joeltetzlaff3817  3 роки тому

      Good question the GEN 16 cymbals l are a bit bright and L80 ride cymbal would be more mellow for the mix (and close to the mic) but you can also use different effects like distortion to darken out the sound. What you hear is what you get with the EAD10 mic and if you stack, mute or add rivets etc you can customize your sounds.

      This is an older model DTXtreme 1 - I think it dates back to the late 90’s The current equivalent model will be the KP-100. The old shells cool... you could use the DT-50k with a mesh head and an acoustic kick drum.
