    I've used your system as inspiration for my personal sound feedback.
    To avoid splitter sockets, I plugged the Ead10 into the phone socket on my mixer and it works really well. I can use the Audio/click pot to adjust the sound independently of the front-of-house sound.

    I was looking into an easy way to mic my kit at a small/medium venue. I also have that
    Rolls headphone booster to run my in ears. Eventually, I was going to invest in a Roland TM2 with triggers for some sounds.
    I think I just found a way to do ALL of the in one neat compact case.

    I think you just saved my gigging life lol. Been looking for a way besides lugging around an entire inear rig such as the one I have in my rehearsal room which is a behringer x18. Obviously small time gigs I have little time to set up gear let alone trying to set that up which is not feasible. But this right here is something I've been looking for. I just hate taking a feed from the drum wedge which always sounds like crap. Thanks for making this video for all to see.

    Very good video man! Thanks. I think many of us ead10 users would like more of this and for me It would be really cool and fun to see a video of the use of the ead10 live, when setup and then short clips from preparation. I understand that you here the sound with in ears, but the band how do they hear the sound? And the people listning? Do you runt the ead10 through an speaker/pa-system to? Thanks again, awsome!

    • @MikeKeaneDrums
      @MikeKeaneDrums  2 роки тому +12

      Thank you for the comment. Sure thing I can do another video in the future showing the system in action live.
      As for your question... If I'm using the EAD as the main drum sound for the PA I simply take a jack lead from the other output of the splitter. You can see the splitter in the mono out of the EAD in the video. That lead then goes to the bands mixing desk. They then send that sound to their own in ears and also to the PA speakers.
      Whats great about using the splitter is that if the drums need extra mixing to sound right in the room from whoever is doing sound, it doesn't affect what's coming to my ears.
      If it's not being used for the live drum sound for the band i still use this system as my own monitor mix. That way I don't need any drum sound coming back from the bands desk. If i want the drums louder or quieter in my ears i just turn the knob.
      Hope it helps!

    Nice setup! I recently bought an EAD10 for live use, to save on carrying mics, stands, and cables. Still getting used to it, but so far, I'm pretty happy with it. My biggest issue was having to relocate my cowbell from the bass drum hoop, where I've mounted it for more years than I care to remember! I really like your setup with the pedal case. • @psmail007
      @psmail007 9 місяців тому

      @@petedeluca4648 A few reasons - splitting will induce a drop in audio - only about 3db - but that will not be consistent across the frequency spectrum ... so tone will alter a bit. Also ... for longer runs a DI will be less noisy. And DI's offer other advantages, like galvanic isolation and ground lift where required, as well as providing an XLR, the standard for FoH audio.

    Hey man! Good video! I was thinking of having the same system. How is the sound of the ead on stage? I am worried I would my cymbals too much compared to the snare. Also, I was worried of other instrument bleed into the stereo mic of the ead...what do you think?

    • @MikeKeaneDrums
      @MikeKeaneDrums  2 роки тому

      Hi Julien thank you for the comment. I think it sounds great for stage use. You will have to experiment with the gain and compression to find a balance as like you say if you have it running too hot it will pick up everything else on stage. I would also suggest not using any other presets such as distortion as they don't really work in the live situation.
      As far as your cymbals, I've found the cymbals are the quietest part of the kit, this is down to the the fact they are physically further away from the mic in the EAD unit. With it being a stereo pair microphone the most important thing will be that you play evenly as in your internal dynamics to mix the drums into the microphone.
      As in most things I don't think that buying one device will solve all problems, the mixture of the EAD into the MG06 into my In Ears (which are moulds, the Shure's are back ups) all work together to produce a sound I'm happy with. I really do love this set up though, the most consistent sound from gig to gig in my ears.
      I hope this answer helps, by all means ask as many as you like :)

  • @kalbert20
    @kalbert20 2 роки тому +1

    Hey Mike, how does the EAD actually work as far as having the drums already mic’ed up? This is a great rig and I would love to do it. As far as the splitter in the back, is that for the sound guy to run the drum mix into as well?

    • @MikeKeaneDrums
      @MikeKeaneDrums  2 роки тому

      Hi Keith, thanks for the comment. The EAD works by using the stereo microphones in the unit that goes on the bass drum and mixes it with the bass drum trigger. This goes into the EAD box which is connected to my board. This then processes the sound and you can manipulate it to create a sound you are happy with. Because it is essentially a core microphone in the middle of the kit you have to make sure you don't have the gain of the mic's too high as it can pick up the rest of the band and cause feedback. A lot of people I know have also had issues because they have tried to use a lot of the effects you can add to the sound, this can also cause feedback in a live situation. I use a very small amount of compression and reverb and have the gain level just enough to hear the whole kit.
      The splitter in the back is to send the drum sound to my little desk for my in ears and to have the option to send the drum sound to a bands mixing desk if needed.
      Hope that helps!

    What type of music (Rock, Jazz, Metal, etc. ) do you use your EAD10 for? Im guessing some Blues because of your reference to Blues Bros Band, but my question to you is this: How do you prevent feedback from stage amps bleeding through the XY mics on the Bass drum's Sensor Unit/Trigger?
    Great video!! Thank you!!

    • @MikeKeaneDrums
      @MikeKeaneDrums  Рік тому +1

      Hi Mark, sorry for the late reply. To reduce any feedback on stage you need to watch the gain levels of the mic. I have the screen on the whole gig and if i see the gain going over unity I turn the mic gain down. Also be careful using the compressor live as it can cause feedback. I have the compressor on the first dot and it's enough.
      I use it for all music types, I do a lot of work for tribute acts which can be anything from rock to blues, jazz etc. This unit works great no matter what.

      Hi Kyle. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I don’t have a link for the splitter but I’m pretty sure I got it off Amazon. The EAD is being split between two dc outputs because that’s what Cioks recommended. I emailed them about what I was planning to do and that was their advice.

    Mike...does running this setup effect anything a sound engineer may do with their own miking and mixing for FOH? Basically can they just do their thing? This is exactly what I have been looking to do. Capture great sounds from the EAD for my own drum mix and blend it with a send of the rest of band from house mixer.

If so, do you tell the sound guy to mute the drums so that you're only getting the rest of the band from your FOH monitor mix and then your drums are strictly coming from the EAD, or do you like to have some of the drum mix from FOH as well?

    I’m putting this rig together at the moment.
    I’ve sorted the mixer, pedalboard and the ead10. Im just looking at power options.
    One question I have is do you get enough of the band in your IEM’s without putting them through the main desk? Im hoping I will get bleed through the ead10 as we don’t often mic up the bass and guitar.

      Hi Morton, thank you for the message and it's great to hear you are putting a board together for yourself.
      Yes you can get enough bleed from the rest of the band. You can change this as you go using the the mic settings in the EAD. You can alter the gain of the mic and trigger really easily. I do this every gig actually to make sure I'm not overloading the unit.

      Hey, thanks for the message. I’m using a guitar patch cable to go from the splitter of the EAD to the desk for my in ears. The desk is purely for my monitoring so I can EQ the drum sound to my liking. It’s also so I can take a monitor feed of the rest of the band in the second channel. This way I can adjust the volume of the drums and band separately to my ears without affecting the FOH sound.
      I take a lead out of the second output of the splitter coming out of the EAD which goes to the bands mixer. This way they can EQ or change whatever they like and it doesn’t affect me.

      Thank you for the comment. Yes you can take a click from the EAD, you just need to change the routing setting of the click in the EAD itself. You would also need take your drum feed to your small desk out of the headphone out of the EAD, not the MONO output like I've done.

    • @MikeKeaneDrums

      @@maxbaynes Channel 1 of my mixer is just the drums from the splitter out of the MONO out of the EAD. IF the drums need to go to FOH then they have the other output of the splitter. This way they can mix the drum sound however they like for the room and it doesn't affect me at all.
      Channel 2 of my mixer is the rest of the band mix with click if they are providing it. I never have drums coming back through the bands monitor mix as I already have that in channel 1. This allows me to turn the drums up or down independently from the rest of the band on the fly to my in ears without effecting anyone else.
      If I'm just providing a click to myself, I take a mini jack to normal jack cable from the iPad into the third channel of the desk which I can turn up and down at will throughout the gig.

    I maybe dumb... But i ordered the ead10 (it's currently in shipping)and in my head i made up the idea of using the headphones out for my in ear en entering the monitor from front of house into the aux. Then i can mix the two of them, without need for a extra mixer.... That should work to, doesn't it?

    • @MikeKeaneDrums
      @MikeKeaneDrums  2 роки тому +1

      That will work yes for the drum sound but you would still need a way of hearing the rest of the band.
      You also can't send different mixes to the headphones and main outs so you will have to make do with whatever setting is needed for gig for your ears. You may be happy with that but I wanted extra control of the volume of my drums to my ears.
      Thanks!

    • @MikeKeaneDrums
      @MikeKeaneDrums  2 роки тому +1

      My apologies I've just reread your message, I also thought I could have the band mix into the aux in too but it didn't really work as what you put in the aux will go back out the main outs. Are you thinking of using the EAD to send drums to the bands mixing desk? If not then I guess it should work. You will need adapters though to change the jack or XLR that will be sent to you to from the bands monitor out in to the smaller jack input of the EAD unit.

      Yeah, I did some digging and there's a real dearth of small mixers with a pre-fader aux. The Soundcraft Notepad-8FX has one and it runs on DC but it has no input pads and it's a little bigger than your MG06.
