Many if us are looking to retire in Thailand and need some real life advice from someone who has done it recently, and also a look at what we can expect to pay for rent, food, cars, bikes, navigate the Thai systems for Visas and licences and just get a feel for the place. Many people come here and want to reinvent the wheel, or find a gem location miles away. The TRUTH, Jomtien is ULTRA loaded with condos and low prices yet close to the best paved walking beach and only walking distance or 10 baht bus ride to Pattaya!
If you look 1 block away from the beach, you’ll find AMAZING deals, with pools and gyms and only 10 minutes walk away from Jomtien beach road.

Definitely get an International Drivers License prior to arrival. Got stopped at Checkpoint and my Canadian drivers license with motorcycle endorsement was NOT acceptable…however my 1K Baht note WAS 😅.

And I did the driver license stuff by myself in Udon Thani. Mostly painless with a lot of waiting and queueing🤣😵💫 for a grand total of 300baht for both licenses and an additional 600baht for scooter and car rentals😎

Great informative video yet again Jason ... personly after the first year of applying and filling in paperwork for visa s , driving license, banking sorted out lve managed to cope without using an agency , its only changes a little yearly , what l did was taking copies of all the filled in forms for my visa etc afterwards easier to fill in all the paperwork and relevent copies l just filled in a month before the due dates , takes all the pressure off you , and if you stay cool / calm the banking , emigration staff are more than helpful , good luck to anyone doing forms the first time , but free help is out there ! G’day, I just watched your video on getting a Thai bike and car licence, it has been a great help, since about 2017-18 I have been giving a lot of thought to relocating, retiring to Pattaya and opening a small business to keep me out of trouble (not a bar) but then COVID hit and you know all the problems that caused and it certainly put the brakes on my plans, but now with things on the up and returning, and me taking early retirement again with the help of COVID, my thoughts are back on track. Back in the early 2000’s I rode a scooter (a Honda Click) all over Phuket and with the intention to one day to tour all of Thailand by bike (scooter) I will be getting a Thai licence, thank you, I really enjoy your web page, I look forward to watching your new video’s, much appreciated.

Nice job mate! I think a lot if people forget to get an International licence. Really important, especially if you don't get it transferred to a Thai licence. Technically, the cops can fine you, if you're only on your home licence.

Great video again Jason. Would definitely be interested in a Live Stream. In particular, I have questions about is property tax collected on foreign owned condos, do condo owners typically purchase Home Owners insurance, What about insurance for your car or scooter, if a Thai hits your car or scooter, is it likely they will pay for damages ? These and more could be covered in a live stream.

G’day, thank you for your response, I had been following a young English chap on you-tube who had toured Thailand on a second hand Honda postie bike, and it had got my blood stirring again for adventure, I had a 1963 Ducati Diana single cylinder 250cc and a 1963 Fugi Rabbit 130cc scooter which I kept in mint condition unfortunate both stolen, these day’s I have a 2005 Hyosung GT250R sports bike but it’s a big bike to ride, now I am older I think a scooter is more my fit over the last month or so I have been looking at bikes and scooters for sale in Pattaya and I have come down to my choice of a Honda scooter mainly because of Honda dealer network in Thailand, I think I will be getting a Honda ADV350 Adventure scooter it’s not too big, not too small, Cheers Michael

Always easier to use the agents for everything. Even When I had my license renewed up in Issan with a thai friend I was asked to give some coffee money to "expedite" things.

I already had a 3 month retirement visa issued by overseas embassy.............. We spent 2 1/2 hours at the immigration office and I walked out with it on the day........................................Cracking vid as usual btw........................................

This is a great video. I'm curious about the vision test - I have a red-green color disparity in the U.S, which basically means that while I can see red and green individually, when they blend them like the color wheel shown, I'm screwed, and can never pick out the relevant numbers unless they're either bright red or bright green, or another color. This knocked me out of a lot of MOS choices in the Army, though they allowed me to cross train back into being a 12B combat engineer who works with demolition, which I found interesting, to say the least. Lol.
I wonder if I'll be able to secure a drivers license in Thailand, or if I'll be out of luck.

Dang it must kill you to be searching Thai retirees knowing your still 8 years away. I refrained from doing so until I reached 48.

@@VikingNomad99 Yes but they are 50+ mostly say 9 out of 10. I'm targeting 53. My earlier was 55 but having tasted Thai, I am moving my plans to 53 which is just 3 years away now.
This video really convinced me to use an agent! It just sounds like a lot less frustration! One thing that you didn't mention was i thought that the bank account had to have the required amount for 2 months minnimum. Did the agent help you get around this? Also, no need for insurance, police background check, ? I hope you see and answer as i am convinced now an agent is the way to go. Thanks for the videos!

Its all about the money, especially in Thailand....front of the ques, no waiting, streamlined services....not that I really care either but you know damn well there's immigration officers getting a really nice kick back but doing it yourself can be very difficult to navigate if it's your first time.

Just a comment on visa's in the Philippines, I did hear you can simply extend 3 monthly for up to 3 years, and then as long as you leave the country by then (and return), the clock starts all over again.

This is true and you pay about 400 US dollars for a retirement visas in Cambodia which is similar to what Jason said the second year will cost to extend his visa in Thailand , however there is no requirements to prove you have money in your account or a pension in Cambodia \Philippines. I prefer Thailand it's much cleaner better infrastructure but I may have to divide my time between country's as my budget is limited.😢
*Also no medical 🚑 requirements in all the country's mentioned , but this is all subject to change of course.🤔🙏
