This baked pork chop is so delicious and easy to make. All the different flavours are just incredible together. Happy Sunday, everyone, and Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms! 💕
Happy mother's day Flo! I'm not sure why people complain about the sugar, it isn't that much split amongst the servings. And, when they make this dish, they can just leave it out and personalize. Gosh, people enjoy complaining.
@@FloLum exactly. It's always to taste! One is in ultimate control of their version of the OG recipe 😋. I mean, I've seen some recipes where I think they're making a dessert, not a main course. But to each their own, I suppose.
Thank you Flo! I made this today for my family and substitute the pork chops with bite sized roast beef I made last night, wow, my wife and mother-in-law had extra helpings and my daughter who is a picky eater loved it too! Only problem I had at the beginning was I needed more overnight rice, no problem with my instapot, I had made rice, dished it out on to a cookie sheet placed it on a shelf in my garage (temp was 4C) and let it cool down for 30-45 minutes. Always wanted to try this HK style dish! Another successful dish in my limited repitoir THANK YOU Flo & Dude! Happy New Year, all the best in 2022!
Happpy Mother’s Day Flo :) I’ve become programmed to look forward and anticipate your weekly videos. I cannot express enough how much I’ve come to love your channel in recent months and I think you’re directly responsible for making me adore cooking.
Flo.. Happy Mother's Day. Grateful that you've been cranking out a lot of recipe that I can follow. Ingredients are mostly I have at home. Thanks to Dude too.
Happy Mother’s Day! My sons love to order that dish whenever we go to Hong Kong Cafe restaurant. Such a good idea to make it that way. Thanks so much. God bless
I bought the sauces and spices you recommended at H Mart. Just made this and it is great. I'm on my way to Great Asian food in my own kitchen!. Thanks Flo. Tomorrow is walnut shrimp, which is how I found you.😊
Love all your recipes, but this dish is one of the top on my list. I even change it up with sliced chicken thigh. Yeah so yummy with the melted cheese. Oo Flo good one. 😋😋😋
Wow, I haven’t looked for a while, but your channel has been thriving! I first began watching your Instant Pot videos but now I am putting your Chinese cookbook on my wish list.
I’ve been looking for a good recipe of HK cafe pork over rice! I haven’t been able to find one that tastes like what I’ve had at restaurants. This looks promising! Thanks for sharing! Now I’ll have to invest in an air fryer and find space for it.
My father would make a version of this but with a Mexican picante sauce instead of the diced tomatoes. It was so different but so good. I had forgotten about it so thanks for reminding me!
Oh mine!!! This recipe has everything I love, will absolutely try it. Btw, if you don’t have potato starch at home, tapioca starch works well in air fryer as well.👍👍👍
Love your recipes. Been cooking from your Chinese home style cookbook. Love it. The only suggestion is I would love you to have at the end, what you serve things with to give me some ideas. 😀
It looks like a winner! Thank you for sharing, I use the cornstarch trick all the time now. I’ve never seen a tomato in any of our favorite Chinese restaurants. I believe the Chinese invented all of the great stuff. Thanks again, stay safe.
I absolutely adore your style of cooking anything…. You are such a great teacher. I was curious if you have a video going over Chinese ingredients (bottled etc) I see them in stores but not sure what or how they are used in recipes.
Dear Flo and Dude if you ever need a guest taster that is if dude is not around for the day or something very happy to come and be your guest taster. I know celebrity but I do love your food
Just got your e-cookbook from Amazon and looking forward to making the recipe from this video and all of them in the cookbook! This recipe reminds me of a Japanese dish called “doria” which is also a fusion dish with a pilaf made with short grain rice at the base covered with a béchamel sauce, meat sauce, and cheese and then baked.
Ketchup == Tomato Sauce! Yay! No wonder I hang out on your youtube. You trigger so much Good Stuff for me in all your vids! (Oh, and more Ella, please!)
Wow, 25 years of Hong Kong Layovers as a flight attendant and I never tried this dish.😮 I always went for the 'Singapore Noodles'. I have to try this! Have you ever made Singapore noodles? They are one of the things I really miss. Would love to see you prepare them, Flo. 🌷🙂
Dude said it: “Wow! Wow! Wow!” Looks delicious. Happy Mother’s Day Flo! (I had to check to make sure it’s Mother’s Day in Canada also! 🙄) This dish reminds me of a Bask dish my mom used to make and I would always request it for my birthday dinner. Pork chops on rice baked in the oven. I don’t have the recipe sadly. I watched like a hawk as you prepared your rice in the wok...I guess I just need more practice cuz I do it just like you...I dunno! I refuse to give up tho. Lol Saving this one to try! Thank you & God Bless your whole family. Xxoo
Hope you enjoyed your Mother's Day. Thank you for this recipe...omg, I've been craving for this. Do you know the recipe to Baked Fish with Corn?! Please do share!
Thanks for the video! Have always wondered how to make this quintessential HK Cafe dish. Can you make a video on the baked fish with white sauce dish too?
I love asian cooking,,, I married an irish gal. Not saying i regret it, but they just are not great cooks, If it is not boiled they don't cook it.. Love your recipes....
Oops! Actually, catsup or ketchup is Chinese with both words derived from the Chinese ke-tsiap, a pickled fish sauce. It made its way to Malaysia where it became kechap and ketjap in Indonesia. Ketchup was first mentioned in print around 1690. The Chinese version is actually more akin to a soy or Worcestershire sauce. The original recipe used anchovies, shallots, vinegar, ginger, lemon peel, and more. When tomatoes found their way into the sauce sometime later, the popularity of this condiment quickly escalated in the USA. The addition of tomatoes allowed the now condiment to stay fresh significantly longer than previously.
Looks totally yummy!! Now this is a recipe I can get behind! 😋 Don't get me wrong, I love watching *all* of you videos, but you know me, I don't like fish. This recipe has the potential to be a favourite along with "Tomatoes and Beef"! 😊😋 Haven't seen Dude to his "hot" routine in a while - gave me a smile! 😀 Still, I have one comment .... you *do* realize that you're not going to be able to stop at 3 cookbooks, right?😊😊
What would be a close substitute for the white rice wine ? I have Japanese mirin, which as you know is sweet and white cooking wine ( American ) . Thank you
Your recipe looks so yummy! I must make this soon, but am having trouble finding Jasmine rice. Do you use any good long grain rice or a specific brand? I realize brands are different in Vancouver than what we can find here in the lower 48. And of course this ongoing shipping problem affects us all. Thanks Flo, your videos are teaching me a lot!
Thanks so much, Shari! I have only purchased Jasmine rice that comes from Thailand and there are numerous brands here. I imagine any long grain rice would be similar. Hope that helps.
@@FloLum Thanks Flo! After reading your reply, I tried one of the suppliers through Amazon and ordered a 20 # bag of the Thai Jasmine rice! So happy, thanks so much!
When you talked about Ketchup being Chinese it reminded me of the dad in Big Fat Greek Wedding saying any word had Greek origins! I know you are telling the truth but the word ketchup SEEMS so American!🤣😂
I have missed a few recipes so I’m going’s back over the ones I missed. I’m trying to freeze some meals because I’m having major back surgery in two weeks and will need comforting food.
