The 170 has a Chinese grade non adjustable carb, 310 has an adjustable Walbro carb. 170 has an all in a piece handle, 310 doesn't, 310 has a professional grade engine kit, the 170 doesn't. I don't see how you can even compare them. The 170 has a really high idle to be able to keep running. CS-310 idle can be lowered to 2500/2600rpm, like in a bigger engine saw and it runs perfectly fine, that's due to the engine intake and turbulence design and the carburator quality.
Echo CS-310s are usually the most reliable small saws, many professionals use them to thin woods or to perform debranching while another cutter does the main cuts. I've never seen a 170/171/80/181 been used in a professional environment, same thing with the Husqvarna 135.

Appreciate your comments but a saw that tosses the chain is useless. Apparently you did not listen to why I got rid of it. I bought the saw to cut brush horizontal position and the chain was ripped off 5 times. New bar and same crap. I don't care about idle speed. I bought a saw to cut not idle

Cs310 is gutless....its NOT a real saw....170 is BETTER, deal with it.
