    Gee, I thought I was being creative when I came up with this idea a few weeks ago, but you beat me 😂 They should come with a removable section to allow access to that hose & pump. I eventually went the difficult route and disassembled. Funny thing is that before I got it fully apart, I realized that the oil hose had come out of the bottom of the pump. That means it was never installed properly. Once that hose end is pushed into place properly, it cannot fall out on its own. It is well protected too, so not pulled out by branches or whatever. Shame, as my saw is quite new and from a Stihl dealer. Bad enough that they are cheaply made, but when quality control goes out the window too, we are really getting shafted. BTW, the disassembly went well as I only damaged 1 of the plastic push caps. Easy inexpensive part from Amazon. Keep up the great creative ideas!

    Yea I’m with you on this one - frustrating how the unit is buttoned up so you can’t access the oiler. Hope you’ve solved the issue with silicone…I believe you did - I think that the fuel and oil tanks heat up and expand during use which in turn effects the fittings and even the tank caps…at least in my experience. Cheers

    Wow! You had me rolling with laughter on the “cheesy” comment! 😂 Great idea for a fix!
    Hey, Stihl saws aint so bad. They never leak bar oil, or are hard to start, or smoke a lot, eh 😂 J/K
    I recently picked up the MS180, which is virtually identical to your saw, with a tiny bit more power. I never noticed the lack of carb adjustment, until after I got it home. It’s a plastic fantastic! Sheesh! The joints where the see thru windows for gas and lube, dont come together well. And the person that commented below about why you just didn’t remove the handle, well, they obviously never had/seen one of these.
    Ive only run about 10-12 tanks through mine, but the saw does well for what it is. i got it for much the same reason you use yours, Steve. I have so many small downed branches, and briars and junk, so I needed something light and easy to maneuver, and it does well. I just hold her WOT and use it like a laser! Works well. The small chain is a pain to keep sharp!
    My two Makita/Dolmars DO NOT leak a drop! *touch wood*.
    Let us know how this works out. Always appreciate your common sense and no nonsense approach to things, Steve. Peace 👍👍👍😊

      Thanks George, stihl makes a great saw and the low end models are not pro saws or cost pro prices so I figure a cheap fix for a cheap saw was in order. I have been using the saw and its dry as a bone and the peice of plastic missing is not noticed. Cheers 👍

      @@SteveRobReviews You’re Welcome, and thanks for your reply! Glad to hear it is working out for you. Aww, the miracle of Silicone! Mine does ok, and only leaks after use, which can be expected. They are good little saws for what they’re intended for. Mine was ‘assembled’ in USA. Cheers!

    "Chickanic" on her channel kept seeing the same disassembly problems on Stihl saws until she found out you had to buy a proprietary tool set from Stihl in order to get to, and then take apart their equipment. You're right though: this fixes the problem! 😏💯💯💯

    I sort of inherited a 170. I'm going to do what you did for the leak, but I noticed when I tighten up the oil and gas caps...there's a split around BOTH caps! ( about a 16th of an inch from the top of the caps ). Are these supposed to be there? You can't notice them until you tighten the caps Tight!!

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  19 днів тому

      Hi Jim
      Yes the split is correct, and under one side is a notch that fits a grove in the tank to form a seal.

      I didn't see this but thought the same thing and tried it. I cleaned the underside with brake cleaner, let it dry and filled it with sealant by squirting it under the plastic handle and let it cure in the sun for several hours. I placed it bottom down on clean cardboard and after several days the cardboard is still dry. Thank you, Steve Rob,

      If there is a orange plug it was corrected at the factory. If it's open order the set screw because it can be too long and block the passage to fat will crack the plastic.
