I don't even have enough room to list all the books I've read or bought because of you two! Joe Abercrombie, Shauna Lawless, Manda Scott, Robin Hobb, Red Rising, Christopher Buehlman, James Islington, Mark Lawrence, R. S. Ford, Richard Swan, Larry McMurtry, and of course Papa. I just got my BB set of Blood & Bone in the mail yesterday. Postage for 3 big hardbacks from the UK to the US just about killed me, but man, they are SO gorgeous. How cool that that's his actual weapon on one of the covers!!
My favorite quote from Misery which I can still remember from when I read it in the early 90s was when she was getting on his case about his swearing, and she was really mad about it and she's screaming at him, and she was like "do I say I'm going to the store to buy some Christing pig seed?!" I don't even think "Christing" is a word but you know how people just start blurting random stuff out when they're super mad and I could just hear her screaming and imagine spittle flying, etc. 😄 Classic King.
I picked up Gates of Fire based on your recommendations and Gates of Athens. I've also picked up Boudica. I trust the authenticity of your recommendations compared to a lot of other booktubers who tend to make recommendations to boost their viewership.
Fantastic wrap up! And I’m jealous about your Greek trip! I was thinking about Ariadne - curious to hear how it ends up for you, Will. Great books, thanks for the video, gents!
In July I read: «The Stone of Farewell» (Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn, #2) by Tad Williams (Epic Fantasy, a key influence for George R. R. Martin's « A Song of Ice and Fire») «Tiamat's Wrath» (The Expanse, #8) by James S.A. Corey (Space opera) «The Warrior Prophet» (The Prince of Nothing #2) by R. Scott Bakker (Grimdark/Dark Epic Fantasy inspired by the Crusades, Silmarillion & Dune) I really have a hard time picking my July book of the month between «The Stone of Farewell» & «The Warrior Prophet»!😅 Currently reading «To Green Angel Tower» (Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn, #3) by Tad Williams.
I read Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield and The Boudica series by Manda Scott because of your reviews. I loved those books!!!! Thanks for the great recs!
I especially appreciate the prequels of Ryan Cahill's novellas as they reveal and add more depth to characters, such as our favorite secondary folks, like a certain saucey assassin.... and his latest shortest story drop with a bit of Vars was only a few pages, but I was happy to gobble it up. Even if it made me feel a little sad. 📖😌📚
Joe Abercrombie’s “Sharp Ends” is comprised of a few short stories, one of which is the prequel to Glokta’s main story. I can’t remember if Ninefingers’ is also among them, I believe it is.
I read the whole Wolf Den series because of you guys. Great series. Also, Essex Dogs. So good. Have you read any of Lois McMaster Bujold’s series? The World of the Five Gods series is great and her follow-up series featuring Penric & Desdemona are all novellas. Highly recommended.
I agree with Ed on both Final Empire and Wolf Hall! So glad you loved sword of Kaigen, Will, I really do need to get to Horns! Ed’s face when Will mentions his channel 😂😂😂😂 yeah I also really love extra books in a world, novellas, short story collections etc.
Nooo can't hear that about Wolf Hall! Just kidding ahah. Your love for Sword of Kaigen makes up for it 🤣. Please read Horns! Novellas need to be made use of far more! Will
@@thebrothersgwynne glad I’m redeemable 😂 Novellas that are part of an established series are better than stand alone novellas and that is a hill I will die on 😂
Natural History of Dragons is one of my favourite series 💔 but while I loved it I do think it will get better for you as the series goes on. Weirdly I actually think I appreciated it because I read it when I was older. I think it wouldn’t have been as impactful if I’d read it when I was younger.
I was really disappointed by Ariadne. I didn’t think it added anything to the story sadly. But I can imagine it could be a fun one for someone new to the myth.
I haven't read any of the recommendation yet! But I've added quite a fair few you both have mentioned! Never Die Dark Frontier The Fifth Seasons Jade City Of Blood and Bone Faithful and the Fallen Gates of Athens King of Battle and Blood Shields in Shadow The Whale Road All of these I'm very excited to get to. I imagine my TBR will grow as the year continues and following into next year haha.
Bahaha in the US it's usually pronounced SUR-See which is wrong, or even worse, "Surse." in Greek it's KUR-key. We Americans say a lot of things stupidly. 'Murrrka!!
Thorns has just been added to my reading list - right after over finished the Stormlight archive, Fury of the Gods, Sword of Kaigen and maybe Jade City 🤣
I'm so happy that you liked The Sword of Kaigen Will. I've read it back in 2022 and it was my book of the year. I'm not looking forward to the review of The Final Empire 😅,it's my favourite of the trilogy and Mistborn Era 1 was the series which made me love fantasy, besides Lord of the Rings of course.
Absolutely LOVED it. It is a book that just leaps into my favourite reads of all-time. Ah, I'm sorry about The Final Empire! There were aspects I thought were great, especially that ending! So I will be carrying on with the series :). Will

I actually started reading the Boudica series by Manda Scott and John Gwynne's books because of you guys. You give excellent recommendations!!
I read The Wolf of Wessex, indeed, I got my whole book group to read it (6 of us). Really enjoyed it. There may have been others.
I read Lonesome Dove because of your recommendation and loved it!
Ed will be so glad to hear that! Thanks for watching :)

I picked up Cormack McCarthy
Just finished the Exile as well and I think I gotta agree I am digging the novellas the most in this series.
