As someone who can no longer drink for medical reasons, the intro was simultaneously great for allowing me to relive getting plastered vicariously through you and also made me very glad I'm never doing that again lol. Also on the "feeling dumb" part. I teach English for a living. The thing I enjoy most about when we discuss a book with the class is when a kid has a wildly different opinion to the rest of the class and getting to hear how they came to that conclusion (with the exception of when they're doing it to be an edge lord). Reading is supposed to be fun, not about doing it 'right', and the reason I enjoy those experiences is because it allows me to see the books we're studying in a new way, so if your opinion isn't what the general consensus of smart people think, the likelihood is that you'll help someone watching who does enjoy that book find something new in it (also, you have an English degree, so obvs you're not dumb, you're technically more qualified to teach English than me)

Bruh, #69, The New Jim Crow, is the book I keep mentioning I'm reading in the livestream chats. 😂 I highly recommend it, and I plan on finishing it after watching this video. (It's a heavy read). Overall, I've read 5, and want to read 10. The Warmth of Other Suns (#2) will be read this month. I'm glad to see a good bit of nonfiction on the list, tbh. I do read alot of it, and all 5 I have read are nonfiction. Gavin, I watch and support you because you are funny and entertaining to watch. One objective list doesn't mean you're not a good book tuber.
I’ve read both and they are HEAVY. I’d recommend the audiobook since they’re so long and brutal. They’re amazing (and imho should be required reading esp for students in the States)

Shelly Swearingen made a video compiling other BookTuber’s and viewers best books, and it is a much better list. I agree with you, these literary books make me enjoy all the fun fantasy, horror, and romance books I read all that much more.
