I gotta say it's a damn shame the Sonic fandom is viewed with a bad eye, because of the bad apples it is mostly constituted by. If you dig a little deeper, you can treat yourself to a universe of passionate fans and competent fan works. Look at how many great Sonic fan-games, mods and animations there are on the internet. To this day, I personally haven't seen a fanbase this dedicated. For every Chris Chan, SammyClassicSonicFan and Deviantart OCs there are, you have Sonic Robo Blast 2, SAGE, Super Mario Bros Z, Tails Gets Trolled, and so on..
They say "one bad apple spoils the bunch" and that couldn't be more right about the Sonic fandom. I consider the good side "fans" and the bad side the "fandom"
Sonic the Hedgehog’s fanbase has done some of the best fan project to date.
I agree. Though it is not much of the viewers fault.
It also doesn't help that people don't treat similar (or even worse) fandoms the same. Chris Chan is also a big fan of Pokémon, do you think that he became the “face” of the Pokémon fandom, like he became with Sonic? Hell no.
TBH the "Sonic Fanbaze Bad" is kinda true of pretty much any fanbase that has a large amount of fans.

There honestly is no Fanbase like that of Sonic. Despite what most people think, it is a great community with talented developers and artists. I also thank Sega for seeing these projects as love letters and not as plagiarism. It’s because of that, along with other unrelated reasons, is why I’m still a Sonic fan, despite how the franchise is currently doing.
Wdym by despite what the franchise is currently doing? He’s in a good spot so far, we got the sonic movie which made him more well known for the better and even Sonic’s 30th anniversary coming up with them taking their time hopefully (of course time will have to tell)

Note - Sonic Robo Blast 2 is NOT complete. Red Volcano Zone still needs Act 2 and Act 3, Egg Rock Zone is yet to be remade, and there are two more zones planned.

Many others may see the good in the Sonic fandom, but after how I was treated in 2019, which lead me to get rid of social media completely, I’ve yet to see the good I once saw in this Fanbase.

I feel like "The good side of the Sonic Fandom" insinuates there are explicit good and bad sides, rather than a spectrum of people and content. And that anything on "The good side" is content that has explicitly proven itself and risen above "The bad side". Which really has just been a bias that's been going since 2008, and doesn't have much ground compared to any other group of people. Be it online, based around media, or neither of those things.
From what I can understand, the title is meant to prove the worth of the Fandom to the people who thinks it has none, or very little. But all it really does is promotes a bias, and a divide in what's good or bad. Rather than letting things sit and be appreciated to vary degrees

Yeah, and the Sonic games do have potential, plenty of untapped potential. Even if SEGA didn't do that well with Sonic the last years, I still am eager to see the hedgehog rise from the ashes that started covering him since after 2006.
Nostalgia plays into it too, but the fandom is so amazing and made of such talented and nice people; the characters themselves are charming and interesting, more interesting, to me, than almost anything Mario or Kirby can throw at me. I cannot wait for the moment Sonic picks himself up and becomes something to truly conquer the world; to make the world his.
@@leonardocouto3109 i ABSOLUTELY agree with you, many sonic games i've played are a ton of fun, many fangames people make are AMAZING, i wonder on what the next sonic game could be like, many were disappointed with forces but hey at least it has many mods now, and also mania, sonic mania is incredible and knowing that there will be a second game is just so surreal... but... i just won't stop thinking on what if the next modern sonic game will be disappointing? i really hope not.. look at what they've done to our boy tails

@@jessiebell6884 Sorry if i came out blunt, what meant was you haven't fully gone into the fan-base because its not just those deviant art people who draw sonic's feet, its loving caring fans making games together, comics, talking about the lore, making amazing Sonic UA-cam videos. When you fully dive into it, its one of the best fan-bases ever. With the other things only a being small percentage of it.

I still forget our fandom has a good side also ironic how i literally watched nazo unleashed yesterday for the first time and this comes up in my recommended. Also surprised Sonic After the sequel and before the sequel aint in this.

Really good video man, I dont see many vids talking about all the good stuff the Sonic fandom has done that isnt just all about Christian Whitehead.
Can we just not insult or judge people for the fanbase they are from?? Any fandom will have a toxic side determined by other people's experiences. But it doesn't take too much effort to find really great and talented people, no matter what fandom/community they are related with (And I mean every one: Anime, Pokemon, Furry, etc.)
People just like to mock on the weirdness. But it's being weird or different really bad?? aren't we all weird in some way??
And we must foment and share those people's talents, so we can make a difference on how the rest can see them on the first view.
I wish more people had this mindset. EVERY fandom has good and bad traits, NO fandom is perfect, so why insult each one for how toxic they are? When we can find the good in each one! Maybe then the good can overshadow the bad!

I got so nostalgic with you mentioning some of the sonic fan flash games and the one Nazo series. I am surprised you didn't mention the one fan game that involved Tails in it. I can't remember the name of it but if I remember the game right, you would play as Tails and go through stages fighting the Tails nightmare doll. It was slightly spooky to me When I was younger and I would make my older brother beat it XD. I do remember the ending of it and I thought it was silly. I don't remember the title of the flash game, but I want to take a guess it was similar to something like "Tail's Nightmare," or something like that. It used to be on the old gamefreak flash game website or maybe it was on the New Grounds website? I want to assume New Grounds since it was a flash game but I can't be sure. Idk how much has changed, so I would reccomend to be careful to what you click on now at days.
When I was little and I watched that Nazo fan animation, I thought it was one of the best things I've ever watched and may somewhat be one of my inspirations to drawing and story telling back then. Of course, I didn't know a single thing on story telling back then, but I always enjoyed making sonic fan comics for myself (I sometimes liked sharing my cringy artwork with my older brother. I never liked showing my stuff to other people so my brother got VIP for seeing it XD). Although, I will admit that they were embarrassing, but it's what started me to write comics for my characters and back then when it didn't involve sonic.
Another fan animation I remember a long time ago was when there was someone out there who animated a fake Sonic fan trailer where they combined Halo with Sonic. So basically Sonic was like master chief. It's been so long omllll. I think they had knuckles or his kind in it too, but they were dressed like the Covenent. I thought it was really neat back then. I don't think I need to mention this, but there was those sonic shorts too. (Not the greatest to watch when I was small, but at least I didn't get some of the adult jokes back then lol)

I am still a huge sonic fan, but I like to stay away from a lot of the fandom stuff, but I do like to enjoy some of the fan animations that are NOT deviant art related, and I'm sure you all know what I mean by that lmao.

It was really nice to just hear someone talking about cool stuff from the Sonic fandom. I never realized that maybe I should actually take a look back at so much of this stuff from when I was younger as well as check out some new stuff, too. People are always trash talking Sonic fans and pointing out the obvious, giant dark side of the Sonic fandom, but they never actually take the time to look for the cool things that many more people make, and it's seriously a huge missed opportunity on their part.

Was expecting Eggman Hates Furries here but good video nonetheless. If you haven't checked it out though I highly recommend it it's pure insanity in a good way lmao. It's mostly boss-oriented so the casual stages don't offer a lot but MAN are the bosses incredibly fun once you reach them.
This is a realy good video, just the nazo part is like the half of the video and I wold like if you talk'd more about the sonic animations in general, and that there's nothing about the fan music and the stuff like that, but still such a good video keep up the good content 👍

They nee more recognition because GOOD LORD they are fantastic ! In fact, some of the authors and artist of these are now working on the official Sonic comics published by IDW. Evan Stanley and Gigi Dutreix, ring any bells ? ( They're the ones I know of, anyway. )

Remember watching Nazo Unleashed and thought it was one of the coolest things I've seen on UA-cam, and that was also the time when I WAS into Dragonball but now I'm not at all anymore, but yet am still a big fan of Sonic.

I'll admit, I have no clue how you would have covered it, and I didn't see the bad side Sonic video which would be upsetting if it was there, but I wish you would have covered Sonic OCs. There are some really cute and cool ones that deserve the attention, to show not all OCs are as bad as the stereotype.

Gonna be frank, the fangame/hacking community is debatable in terms of how good it is. I've heard alot of bad things that can change anyone's stance on it if there's enough context given.

I know quite a few toxic fandoms that get better the moment you dig into them. I would have said "guess I'll add sonic to that", but I knew already this this one had it's good side. One I can think of is Undertale. Glad the good side of the sonic fanbase is coming to light. Hopefully, some others will as well.

Missed a few things; Super Mario Bros Z is the first one. It follows a similar narrative like DBZ, where Sonic and Shadow visit the Mushroom Kingdom to stop Mechasonic. That one started on Newgrounds.
Second is Team Sea3on working on production of Sonic SatAM's third season.
Finally, we have countless Content Creators paying tribute to the Blue Blur on the platform.
There is so much good in the fandom where Sega neglects to focus on these aspects of Sonic.

Given how the internet loves negativity, I was expecting the dark side video to have more views but this has double of that. I guess Sonic fans are really sick of their negative stigma and don't want to hear about our cringe anymore.
