I learned English because of Freddie and Queen. Their beautiful lyrics made me curious about what the words meant, the clear enunciation made it really easy for me to follow along. I was 6 years old when I started, dictionary in hand. I could sing the songs (absolutely terribly mind you) in perfect English before I knew all the meaning of the words. I started learning other songs too, started reading English. Queen opened up a beautiful world to me. They are my favourites forever.
Queen were a huge hit in Brazil and their performances at the Rock in Rio festival cemented their appeal. The shows on 12th and 18th of January attracted the biggest crowd Queen ever played to, with an estimated 250,000 to 500,000 people in attendance each night.
It's very impressive for the crowd to sing all the words in perfect English when you understand that it's not their native language. You know you're a special kind of musician when audiences can sing every single word of your songs. Great reactions
The most incredible thing about this video is that most people don't realize how incredible it is that all the people in the stadium are singing in English. In Brazil, only 5% of people have some level of understanding of the English language, and only 1% are fluent, and Portuguese is spoken massively throughout the country. But even so, everyone sang the song in English correctly, making it clear how loved the band Queen has always been in Brazil.
I've been told that the greatest honor of a singer/songwriter is to have a crowd sing your song back to you! Queen really loves the fans to be part of the show and they are. Queen and Freddie Mercury are my favorite of all time! Thanks for reacting to the greatest frontman to ever grace the stage IMHO 👏
So true freddie's voice is touched by an angel takes you to another place I have chills when I listen to this one and others performances by queen they are the best of all time thanks for your reaction 👌
Actually, May hated it. He said he felt the audience should appreciate that they were on stage working their arses off and should listen. That's why he wrote We will rock you.
My guy performs in a tank or even shirtless and still commands a crowd of hundreds of thousands. If I come on stage and start yelling, people would assume I need help LMAO
And people were surprised when they killed it at live aid…only a few months after this concert. The chants for Brian are all kinds of awesome. Can’t help but smile.
While I wasn't at this show, I can personally attest to the power of Queen live in the eighties. I saw them at Madison Square Garden in September 1980 and July 1982. Check out any of the videos from "Live in Montreal 1981" that was recorded during their tour for "The Game" album. That went from early 1980 into late 1981.
I saw them live at Wembley Stadium, London, in 1986. Freddy was one of the greatest performers in the history of music . The memory of that day will stay with me all my life.❤❤❤
There is a video of Bohemian Rhapsody playing on the intercom before a Green day concert and the entire Stadium is singing along. 40 years after that song was released, entire stadiums are singing along to it at some other bands concert.... think about that for a minute.
This song he said was for Mary Austin whom he was engaged to at the time. He wrote it because he was going to come out to her as being bisexual and he knew she was going to leave him for it. She did but remained friends until he died.
May you have seen a Viedeo of Greenday. The crowds si😢ng Bohemian Rapsaody. The group play it always in so long the audition have to wait for the group. It's awesome.
I saw U2 twice after 12 hour waits and ended up in rows 3 and 5 to the stage in a crowd of 100K. And yeah, next time I'm definitely wearing a diaper, no joke! I had to pee before U2 even took the stage. Thankfully I survived.
You actually don't know the story lol. No one knows who he actually wrote that to. I love the movie Bohemian Rhapsody, but they were not right about alot of stuff. Like he never pined for Mary in real life like he does in the movie. When they ended things they stayed very close friends til the end of his life but he moved on romantically. He even had a boyfriend when they broke up. Personally I thunk he might have written that song to Mary, but more from her perspective. Again, I love the movie, but if you wanna know facts and stuff, watch a documenntary. There's a few great out ones on youtube Anyway, aboutt this perfomance, it's even more amazing when you realize the audience didn't know English that well, but they knew every word to the song ❤️
This is wonderful and terrible at the same time...can you see the black spots on his upper chest? His AIDS infection started to break out and he had only 6 more years to live...! He is missed so much!
What next should we react to from Queen?

300,000 people singing in English that dont speak English all singing perfectly !! the love for freddie even today is huge !!!
Nice comment. But let me correct the amount of people in this particular day: more than 500,000 people! Should be 500,001 if I could go there!☺☺

Queen came to Brazil to be crowned by the crowd

@Deborah Allen so true thanks for your comment❤️👍

Freddie had a very special gift. Even with thousands of people,he had the gift of making it so personal and intimate. A true legend💜

There was no better..he was the greatest showman..He loved the crowd and they loved him back..10 fold..GOAT.......

I wasn't even born yet, but this is one of my favorite concerts to watch online.
Beautiful Freddie, beautiful song, I wasn’t at Rio but I saw them live at Knebworth in ‘86, it was awesome.

Chanting Brian’s name like they’re at a football ⚽️ match. Priceless

You have successfully arrived, as an artist, when the audience sings your song to you when you are onstage.

The Best Queen SHOW
Some underrated gems from Queen, for your consideration:

yea I always liked the theory that he wrote it from Mary's perspective. Makes the song more emotional for me.
