    Interesting backstory as to why the saints chose to wear the white uniforms for this game. Kurt Warner had been plagued with concussions throughout the season and was sensitive to light, which is often a symptom of severe migraines. The Saints believed that the white jerseys would negatively affect Warner’s play.

      @@unlimitedpower978 It was coaching. Dick Vermeil retired as head coach after the Rams won the Superbowl in 1999. Martz took over as head coach in 2000. • @silverwheel
      @silverwheel 5 років тому +15

      @@unlimitedpower978 A lot of the '99 guys hit the wall hard in 2000. Rams D had a lot of veterans who had played pretty well in the preceding years (which ultimately didn't matter in their overall record in '97 and '98 because those teams were comically bad at quarterback and running back). Todd Lyght was a Pro Bowler in '99, unplayable in 2000. Mike Jones and D'Marco Farr also fell off pretty severely. Kevin Carter basically sulked his way through the year over his contract status. The team would have 8 new defensive starters in the 2001 season. Martz actually did quite a bit to stabilize the defense in the middle of the '00 season, coaxing Bud Carson out of retirement as a "consusltant," but it was basically a defacto firing of DC Peter Giunta - Carson would be calling the plays from the booth within a few weeks of his hiring. A part of the '99 team that doesn't get much notice was that they technically had co-defensive coordinators that year - John Bunting designed the blitz packages while Peter Giunta dealt with the coverage schemes and called the plays on gameday. Bunting left after the '99 season, and Giunta, left on his own, was calling almost exclusively soft zones during the first 7 games in 2000. Thus Martz coaxing Bud Carson back into coaching to basically replace Giunta in all but name only. That year's team had personnel problems that couldn't be fixed in season, but Carson did get a couple of decent defensive performances out of them in games they really needed to stay in the playoff hunt.

    The Aaron Brooks era wasn't bad! He was a solid QB, who can beat quality opponents (like Tampa Bay at their prime); but somehow always flounder against terrible teams they should have beaten. NateIII11 absolutely. Basically the Rams became the joke of the NFC west and struggled the whole 2000s and 2010s after warner left for Arizona and failed miserably with Jeff fisher and sam Bradford. The Rams were so bad they had to change scenery to an original home to reboot their franchise. Meanwhile, because the Rams lost to a 6th round QB and a new head coach formerly fired by Cleveland, that would ultimately spark the greatest dynasty professional football has ever seen, a dominant run of success over a span of 19 years and counting. And who knows, this Sunday, maybe all these years later, these two will have a chance at a rematch in Atlanta. What a story that would be.

    2000 Rams were the greatest offense that has ever been put on an NFL field. Half the 4th qtr gone, down 31-7, and they almost pull off one of the greatest playoff comebacks in history. I have no doubt that if they had won this game, they would have gotten through the Giants for the 2nd time that season and have no trouble dismantling the Vikings for the 3rd time in a one year period. They were absolute perfection. Bruce, Holt, Faulk, Warner, just unreal how they all worked together so efficiently. I'm a Broncos fan, 2013 Denver has nothing on this offense. They put up 35 points on Tampa Bay, in Tampa against that all time great defense! Enough said!

      I'm not sure about it being a forgone conclusion of them getting past those other NFC teams if they had gotten past the Saints. I agree the 2000 Rams offense was spectacular. "The greatest show on turf" at it's absolute peak. Even greater then the previous year when they won the SB and the year after when they got back to the SB and had probably there greatest overall team during that 3 year stretch.
      But there defense in 2000 was just about atrocious. Which is why they hired Lovie Smith in that off season to run the defense. There 2000 defense would have still eventually caused there down fall IMO.

All my family and I felt like we finally broke a voodoo curse or some shit until the following week when Randy Moss and the Vikings beat us so bad like as if we weren't even suppose to be there lol. And It was all downhill from there tho Aaron Brooks was a one season wonder and we went back to the lowest of lows in the NFL. But then came Mickey Loomis and enter Payton and Brees who would then bring us to heights we only dreamed of. Johnny Moore the 07 Pats changed all that, by being the first team to run over 50% shotgun, which now almost every team does. But the 2018 Rams are changing it back, they run almost 70% of their snaps from under center.

      As a fellow Viking fan, even if the Rams pulled it off I don't think they would've beaten the Vikings at the Metrodome. Their defense was very suspect, Warner had taken another beating from the Saints 'D' and the Vikings were coming off a 1st round bye. Moss, Carter, Smith, and Culpepper would've been too much for them.

      I think the Rams were a horrible matchup for the Vikings and it showed in 1999 and 2000. The Vikings secondary was terrible and the pass rush wasn’t good enough.
      The Vikings defense was at its worst at the end of the season too, getting lit up by Warner, Favre, Manning and Kerry Collins. Even Shaun King lit them up twice and the Bucs had a 41 point game against them. The Bucs!
      Vikings did play better at home and their only hope was to catch the Rams D on a bad day. Maybe Minnesota didn’t show the Rams everything when they played during the season.

    • @Steve00077
      @Steve00077 2 роки тому +1

      I think the most disappointing thing about the regular season game in 2000 was the Vikings offense had a disappointing game against the Rams defense.
      The Rams were up 33-14 in the 3rd quarter in that game. Bud Carson was brought in as a defensive consultant and it improved the defense significantly.
      Also the Vikings only had 8 interceptions that year. That’s it. Warner had zero in the game against them. To beat the Rams you needed to force turnovers.

We started off something like 7-0 that year, played Kansas City, Warner got hurt, and things kinda snowballed from there. If memory serves me correctly, we needed help from Paul Edinger of the Bears to beat the Lions to get into the playoffs on the last day of the regular season. And still had a chance to win this game and then who knows after that. However, the defense was really bad this year. They were extremely underrated the year before when we won the Super Bowl, thankx largely in part to the explosive offense. Ahhhhh man, I'll never ever forget that punt to Az Hakim.
