    I will be starting a not full lawn restoration, but will spray my whole lawn with Tenacity, 10,000 sq ft, to get rid of areas with Nimblewill. I may have be to apply 2-3 apps of Tenacity in some areas. Then aerate and seed around September 1'st or so.

    First, put 1 gallon of water and dye into the container then lastly Tenacity. It prevents from splashing into face, eyes and skin.

    one note...as expensive as the product is, I always load the hypo full with water, and squirt it into the tank a couple times after introducing the measured amount to get the residual out that lays in the funnel tip.

    Pricey stuff. Here are a couple of "potential" alternatives that might be cheaper per oz. but that said, if you need a gallon then you either have a golf course(and I envy you) or your yard is so infested(like mine) that it might be better and cheaper to just start over with glyphosate:
    Explorer Herbicide (Syngenta) Syngenta is the originalmanufacturer of this chemical
    Callisto Herbicide (Syngenta)
    Mesotrione 4SC (willowood)
    Mesotrione 4SC (agri star)
    Mesotryone (Drexel)
    Meso 4sc (prime source)
    Trione (AmorTech) - hard to find retail
    Bellum (Rotam North america)
    Meso Star (Sharda USA)
    Also note that Mestrione is only 40% and the other 60% could be vary which may or may not be good for your lawn so label reading is still required.

      Tenacity is expensive, but it goes a long way. The reason I started using it is it kills Nimblewill, which had taken over my yard. Also, it can be used at reseeding be time.

      Roundup is 50% . . . does a good job . . . readily available and leaves the soil replant able after just a few days. Just be damn careful with any of these . . . Max PPE . . . and only use on a dead calm/no wind day.

    I didn't find that the blue dye helped me locate the sprayed lawn spots. Blue on dark green just didn't seem very noticeable. However what I did notice, and why I am writing, is that I sprayed grass/weeds too closed to my white vinyl siding. How do you clean the blue off your house?

    Use your hose to fill your tank sprayer like that will eventually result in accidental splash back onto you. Tenacity and water in your face at double spray strength is not fun.
    Use a spray gun or some hose end to regulate water flow not bend the hose.

    Hi Ben - fellow St. Louisan here. I'm enjoying your channel and would like an opinion on fall-reseeding post and pre-emergent herbicides.
    Much like your old lawn, my front lawn is half warm season (zoysia) and half cool season. I did an overseed 2 weeks ago on the cool season side and we've got fine fescue babies in there that are about 2" tall. I had some wild violet issues in this area and even in the zoysia mid to late summer. I hit that with a mix of Tryclopyr brush killer and Fertilome Weed-Out plus surfactant which seemed to do some damage and didn't seem to hurt the grass, but should I do another round of that in the front yard knowing I have some babies in there? I also have the Tenacity but I don't think that it's effective against wild violet. The Tenacity label says it will kill the wild violet, so maybe I didn't hit it hard enough when I tried it the first time?
    I blew up my shady back yard and replanted in a shade tolerant TTF from Seedsuperstore. It's doing really great so far but I've got some clover, wild violet and creeping charlie that I didn't kill off well enough before throwing down the new seed. Leaning toward using tenacity there. Wondering if I should "spot spray" or if there would be a benefit to spraying the entire yard for pre-emergent weed control this time of year.
    I also see you've abandoned the old monster slope! My monster is the front yard pretty steep but not as long as yours. Looks like you're having fun in the new yard!!

    • @TheLawnGuardian
      @TheLawnGuardian  6 років тому +1

      Thanks for watching and subscribing, Tony! It wouldn't be a bad idea to try to take care of some of the weeds right now but your best shot for taking care of a lot of your weeds are going to be next spring when you put your early spring pre-emergent down. I have not used Tenacity as a pre-emergent so I can't speak on it's capabilities there. Since you are going to be seeding, you're going to need starter fert. I would recommend this product. It is a granular Scotts starter fert with the same active ingredient that Tenacity has in it. (Mesotrione) www.homedepot.com/p/Scotts-Turf-Builder-21-5-lbs-5-000-sq-ft-Starter-Food-for-New-Grass-Plus-Weed-Preventer-23200/203716573 In this case it will act as a pre-emergent while you seed, but it would still be a good idea to try to take care of some of the mature weeds with Tenacity as a post-emergent. I have not used that Scott's fertilizer but I have heard good things about it. Good luck!

      Tony ACE, I’ve used Tenacity as a pre-emergent in my TTTF while also completely re-seeding my lawn (last year). I had crabgrass start grow for MONTHS after I put it down and within them being a couple inches tall, they turned white as snow & died. I think I accidentally did it correctly the first time, but even into THIS SPRING I had some residual in the soil (wow!) because of some spots I oversprayed, and even had a few crabs pop up and turn white immediately. The stuff is a crabgrass-ender!

    • @TheLawnGuardian
      @TheLawnGuardian  4 роки тому

      Once you mix a batch, it's best to use it. It should be fine over the course of a few weeks. Be sure to read the label as it will have some of this information in it. I clean my sprayer out in the lawn. Once the sprayer is emptied there shouldn't be a lot of residual material in the sprayer that will harm the lawn. Be sure to rinse it out several times and run plenty of clean water through the sprayer.

    Do you have to worry about spraying too much?
    Most videos I have seen are about blanket applications where you need to calibrate the sprayer and walking speed.
    I want to be able to do the edges of my driveway and a few thin spots as a pre-emergent.
    Do I need to worry about over-applying? Or will the marking blue be my guide as to when to move on to a new spot to spray?

    • @TheLawnGuardian
      @TheLawnGuardian  5 років тому +2

      I have only used this product to spot spray and when spot spraying, walking speed and calibration don't come into play much because you're only spraying the individual weed until the leaf blades are wet. So you're not spraying much. I use a marking blue when I spot spray so I don't spray a weed more than once. Even if you're not doing a complete blanket application over your entire lawn and you're just doing a small blanket app in a zone or along a walkway it's still important to calibrate your sprayer & get a good walking speed down. I like to use marking blue because I don't have a lot of experience and it can be helpful for any type of application so you know where you have sprayed. Ryan Knorr does a great video on using this product as a pre-emergent application. I hope I was able to help. Thank you for watching! ua-cam.com/video/T6ZLVkpf10I/v-deo.html
