    Hi! This video is exactly what I needed to see. Now I feel that using the Tenacity does work and the project is something doable for me. I am a widowed 58 year old woman with no one who can consistently help me do something like this, unless I hire someone but that is something that I can't afford. My yard is small compared to yours but large compared to my neighbors lawns. So, like said, your great video has shown me I am capable of PATIENTLY getting this done on my own. Thank you!!

    Thanks for the clear explanation of the product, it's time table, and progress. I was able to follow along and understand exactly what worked for you and your location. I've noticed a substantial Bent Grass infestation, but for my location, it is kinda toward the end of the growing season. So, I might be doing your procedure in the spring, which I know is not the ideal time to grow grass (I'm in the Center of the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts). May I offer one suggestion that has worked for me when growing grass in spots close to driveways or walkways. I use the rolls of Burlap (from any big box or garden center) to cover the fresh grass seeds. They come about 3 feet wide by about 20 feet for around $10 with hold down metal spikes. It does a couple of things while germinating. It keeps the grass seeds moist as the driveway radiating heat can bake the edges of the lawn. It also keeps birds from feeding on the seed. After 10-14 days, depending on location and soil temp, the new seedlings start to pop through the burlap. Gently lift up the burlap and it will not pull out the new seedlings. Put the burlap on the driveway, hose it down, let it dry and store for the next area. You can kinda quilt together problem areas. Thanks again. Wish I saw this in August.

    Hi, Danny. First off, thank you for speaking slowly and clearly enough that I didn't have to keep jumping back to catch what you said. You made an excellent video here. I'm in the Puget Sound region in western Washington state. 11 years ago I installed 100% perennial rye grass sod. I like it for its dark, lush green color and its shine. Over the ensuing years other grasses have crept in...bentgrass, poa annua, and probably a couple other grasses. Not many weeds at all, but lots of patches of other, invasive grasses. I'll be doing 2-3 treatments of Tenacity. Watching your video answered so many questions. You seem to have had great luck and your lawn and yard look great! Wish me luck!

      Good luck to you! This video was made while I lived with my parents. I have since moved out to my own house, but I still see their lawn every few weeks. I did catch a couple small spots coming back, which took about 3 years after this original video. Everything I have read suggests that bentgrass is an endless battle and no matter what you do, it will eventually come back over time, but in smaller quantities.

    Great video. I am presently battling bent grass and everything you showed is spot on. Amazing how bent grass suffocates the fescue and other grasses. In some areas I rake it up like rolling a carpet. Very sad to see my lawn so trashed but new seed is germinating and we’re healing. I use tenacity with a surfactant; 1 tsp tenacity for 2 gallons water. Also it works on the yellow nutsedge - it grows fast and the white shoots are easy to spot.

    I just applied another application of Tenacity on my lawn as well after 2 weeks to keep the crabgrass and sedge grasses under control. So far they have turned from yellow to white on the first application and are dying off. Hopefully I will get the results you got from the second application. I plan to keep the spots bare this fall and instead lay down the preemergent (Prodiamine), so that winter grassy weeds (POA ANNUA) will not try to take over those bare spots. My seeding project is planned for next spring.

    • @aarondavid9763

      I was thinking the same in case the spots don't fill. There are preemergent instructions for Tenacity, but Prodiamine would be the way to go.

      Mario DiPlacido thanks Mario. Biggest thing I can say about it is to be patient and let tenacity do it’s job. I got eager to rip it all out but I had to be patient. It may take 3 applications or even 4 in some cases. You’ll know when the grass feels like straw and is fully dead.

    Great video and progress. I was going to do this but I'm thinking of just spraying my whole lawn with Roundup and reseeding it with clean Kentucky Bluegrass. Then using Tenacity as the grass comes in to keep the bad grasses from coming back. I have a bunch of tall fescue in the lawn too, clumps all over the place.

      Yup, it's a frustrating invader. It's been there for many years. At first it wasn't really a problem other than the color difference but now it's taking over the whole backyard. The blades don't grow straight up. It's growing sideways so the mower isn't cutting it properly and the lawn is looking lousy despite all my efforts.

    Great vid! So its now October 9th. Applied tenacity twice. Second application eas about one week ago. So now going to hard rake pull dead bentgrass out. Will probably want to sod . Will assume will need to add top soil before sod goes in? If i do this when do you want me to apply tenacity again? In November oe wait until march or April. I am just south of Boston. 7 miles away.
    And must apply tenacity in April and every month to make every attempt to keep bentgrass from coming back?? Or not often as once per month?
    I Always use pre emergent in March or April. Much appreciated for your guidance and help.

    I tried Tenacity to "control" my creeping bentgrass for 4 years in a row. It does kill off the bentgrass without seriously damaging
    the desired grass. However, in my lawn the bentgrass came back just as thick within one year, crowding out the new grass. I live in northern Ohio and I have heavy clay soil. My advice: if you have solid clumps of bentgrass, burn it out with Roundup, then reseed. Much faster and cheaper and effective. If you have a problem with Roundup then you probably won't be using Tenacity either. I use a thatching rake to control the "creepers" around the edges of my large patches during the summer.

      You could treat the entire yard. I would do 3 treatments spaced 14-21 days apart. Just be prepared to do a lot of seeding or sod depending on how much dies off. You can actually spray Tenacity on the seed when you put it down too.

      It's been almost a year since I started my applications and the bentgrass has not returned for me. If it keeps coming back for you, a blanket spray is probably worth doing if you haven't done it yet. I would say probably 3 blanket sprays over the course of 2 or 3 months. That should ensure whatever bentgrass is in your lawn is truly eliminated.

    Great time lapse video. Thought occurred to that when you have weeds in patches, I don't see the advantage over mechanically removing the unwanted grass. You can remove its within a few hours and its done instead applying multiple applications and then waiting up to 2 months. My weeds are much more spread out so tenacity has been applied but I wish y problem was more isolated Id rip it out and start fresh

    • @dannyt5012
      @dannyt5012  4 роки тому +2

      With bentgrass specifically, removing the grass patches would result in the roots still being in the ground to some extent. The bentgrass would grow back by the next growing season or even the same growing season. Tenacity will get down into the roots and kill it much better and in some cases more permanently.

    I’m a bit surprised. I just treated my 12,000 sq ft lawn a week ago. I have had an invasion of what you call bent grass over about 35% but did not know Tenacity kills it. That was not the target for me, it was weeds, crabgrass,etc. so..I plan to only do one application but now if the Bent grass is going to start to die I must rethink this. I’m 7 days in for first App and see NOTHING changing. But…have not mowed either until tomorrow.

    Hey danny, from michigan - i want to use tenacity because i have a lot of bentgrass near the sides of my driveway and edges and its starting to creep up into my lush fescue. Do you think now is a good time to use the tenacity (fall time) and then lay down sod or grass seed. Or do you think its best to apply the tenacity in the early spring and lay sod/grass seed in spring? Would appreciate your feedback! Thanks in advance!

    • @dannyt5012
      @dannyt5012  6 років тому

      Noah H you are going to need a minimum of 2 applications. Assuming you do 2 weeks between applications you’ll need a full 4 weeks minimum to let tenacity do its job. I wouldn’t see any later than early October. If you do see and it starts to grow and then the first freeze hits, it will continue to grow in the spring. I did that last year where I fixed an area and then seeded in early October. The grass only grew about a quarter inch before the first freeze. Those spots grew perfectly once spring hit.

    Just two questions:
    1. Did you do a complete lawn application and let the Tenacity identify the bentgrass, or did you identify the bentgrass and just spot spray?
    2. Did you have any return the following year?

    Danny, excellent video. If you are still responding to questions: What state was this in? Pretty impressive growing grass in the heat of the summer. I imagine somewhere in the North East with the Kentucky Blue as your turf. I am in Jersey and am considering doing a Tenacity application for various hard to kill weeds. Just trying to decide if I do it now (July-Aug), followed by a reseeding in the fall. Or wait till Spring where I can also tackle my Poa Annua.

    • @dannyt5012
      @dannyt5012  5 років тому

      This was up in southeastern Michigan just north of Detroit. I had to water like crazy and made sure to cover the seeds with peat moss to protect it from the heat and lock in more moisture. I wouldn't seed an entire lawn mid-summer, but if done right you can do a small area. I believe it was in the upper 80's and some days low 90's.

      Swimbait1 it has not come back as of yet. It will be one year next month since I started removing it. I would say do 3 full applications 2 weeks apart and it should kill it all. Blanket spray your entire lawn each time if you can. This will ensure anything and everything is killed.

      I no longer live there with my parents but whenever I would go there I would check. I would say it stayed away for just under 3 years. Now some little patches are coming back. Tenacity will work better than roundup. I’ve heard round up doesn’t get down deep enough into the roots to kill it off well enough.

    Whats your input on using a sod cutter and getting rid of the bentgrass vs using tenacity? 'I have some bentgrass along my driveway, and it would just be easier to use a sod cutter and put down new sod.. would the sod cutter be beneficial at removing those bentgrass roots? Let me know! Thank You!

    • @dannyt5012
      @dannyt5012  6 років тому +1

      Noah H the problem with that is the benthrass is deep down in the roots. If you remove the sod, the bent grass will goes back right through the new sod. The only sure way to remove it is with tenacity. Then use a sod cutter to remove the old dead stuff and replace it. Or just simply put down topsoil and seed right over the top of the dead stuff.

    Great video! Thanks for sharing. I just cut my lawn yesterday and planning to apply tenacity but according to the label I have to wait a couple days after cutting. Did you wait in applying tenacity after cutting? Also, how's your lawn so far? Thanks in advance!

    • @dannyt5012
      @dannyt5012  7 років тому +1

      I waited 2 days after cutting my lawn before applying tenacity. I believe after you apply it you should wait another 2 days before cutting. Give it about 6 hours to dry before you let any pets out there. My grass is still looking good. The seed is fully grown in at this point. I’m just waiting for some of the side to blend in.

    • @dannyt5012
      @dannyt5012  7 років тому

      If you read the label on the tenacity bottle it will tell you what grasses it won’t kill. If your lawn is bluegrass then you should be fine spraying the whole lawn. I may end up doing that next spring or this fall just to get rid of any small little patches I missed.

      Danny Tam I wanna say the label states that for 2 gallons of water you should add 1 teaspoon of tenacity and 3 teaspoons of surfactant. This would cover 2,000 square feet. For a surfactant you can get it off amazon.

    Danny, nice video. I''m going through the process now. At the 7:28 mark, is that light green area between your mailbox post and sidewalk bentgrass? Otherwise, have you had any recurrence since a year ago?
    Also, how did you apply the Tenacity? Did you use a typical tank sprayer (generally 2 or 3 gallon) or were you able to figure out how to use it in a canister with garden hose? Thanks.

    So pretty much all of my neighbors have lawns that are more than 50% bentgrass. After you treat how often do you have to do additional applications for preventative maintenance?

    • @dannyt5012
      @dannyt5012  7 років тому +1

      Josh you could do one treatment each year as preventative maintenance. The label states late summer or early fall is the best time for bentgrass because that’s when it starts growing the most. So the same rate at which you applied tenacity to remove it, just do the same but only one treatment.

    Like all You Tube Videos --- I have No Idea why you would get a Thumbs Down.
    What you showed, is what is required to get that quality of a weed free lawn.
    Your not paying a pro for that,nor would they put that effort into it you did.
    You should mention that Tenacity, is an Online Purchase of a Professional Product
    & some education & math is required, to use Herbicides, as well as the need to purchase
    a quality back pack sprayer,an electric one & also professional quality, so it actually
    works for years. Spot spraying can easily wipe out all grass,& the instructions are not
    easy to understand,unless you watch the many You Tube Videos that explain the use
    of such products.
