Which adapter are you using?
I have the canon EF-RF with the function ring! The price point of the canon adapter with the ND filter was way to much and these look like a great replacement. I also just invested in RF and have not to many EF so for me I don’t know if I even need the ND adapter when I’m already so use to the filters I’m using with the RF lenses
Canon's regular RF-EF mount. I'm curious if Kippertie's revolva compatible with canon mirrorless bodies though.
I've got the official Canon EF-RF drop in filter adapter with the VND. I have a kolarivision clear filter that I use with it and really like, no need for the Canon version.
@@RoccoGermani cheaper
@@aov_james Kippertie is compatible my friend-Canon RF. I have used their product and it is top notch. Leaps and bounds above the others for mounting and ND behind the lens. Many DP’s are using the PL version of the Revolva on set for Netflix original series (Red cameras). I recommend strongest ND of 1.8 to prevent any cast you might get at 2.1. Which even then is very minimal.
Love my Meike adapters. As an aside….the drop in filter adapter is fully compatible with Breakthrough Photography’s drop in filters and Canon’s own drop in filters.
Thank you, did not know that!
I have all canon EF L glass. My work horse was the 5D MIV. Now switching to R5C, I use the canon adaptor with control ring initially but now use the Meike ND filet one. No complaints. Great review. THanks
I've almost replaced all my EF glass with RF glass for my R5. So I decided to try out Kolari's magnetic clip-in ND filters. These are awesome! They fit in between the sensor and the lens so it doesn't matter what lens you have in front. No step up or down rings needed! No need to worry about thread size of different lenses. No need to worry about vignetting. I almost bought Canon's ND filter adapter but then after thinking that I don't have many EF lenses anymore and also thinking that I love the control ring which I would lose as well, I think this Kolari solution is better.
Thanks for the review, was looking through some different options but I think this is the one 🤘🏼
Absolutely agree with you on the ND Filters and good points you raise on the Meike Adapters. Another good review. Thanks for posting!
thanks for the comment Stewart!
Definitely getting one of these. Thanks for the info great video.
Brilliant review.
Your video was extremely useful thanks a lot !
Thanks! I heard about this and was thinking about the Drop Filter Adapter.
I'll defo consider this one now
This should be perfect for my favorite video lens for Canon which is the Sigma 24-35 F2
Hi, thanks for this very informative video. Can you tell us how the autofocus is working with this adapter and EF glass on the r5C?
EF to RF
Hi Damien - thanks for this series you've done recently on the R5 C - it's been very helpful. Could you do me a huge favor and check if the Meike adapter with the USB on it, allows the green Focus Guide box to appear with a non-Canon, no contacts, dumb, manual focus lens and if allows the Focus Guide to be turned on in the menu. With both my Canon adapters, the regular $100 one and the one with the VND, with a manual lens on, the Focus Guide option is greyed out. Strangely enough, with the .71 Metabones adapter on and a manual lens, the Focus Guide is working. I'll definitely grab the Meike if this solves this problem. Thanks so much.
Two questions please : )
Does the variable ND have a usb connection?
How brighter/dimmer is the C70 screen compared to the R5C?
🙏🏻
I have has some issues with the limited use on an R6m2 when using with a 24-105, and also with a 100mm Macro 2.8L. I haven't used it much but the 1st time i was shooting a wedding and right in between bridal party walks up the aisle, the camera blanked out. I quickly switched the lens to my backup Mark 4. Afterwards i opened the battery door, cycled it off and on a few times and it didn't happen again. The rest of the evening i used the newly acquired R. I have used it in the backyard trying to duplicate the error and haven't been able to. But this past weekend i attached the macro L and it would not focus, and then it wouldn't give an f-stop. I unattached, and then reattached the adapter 1st to the camera, and then the lens on the adapter. This seemed to solve the issue and i was able to complete the ring shots with the R6. I will experiment this week to see if I can duplicate the problem. IN the meantime i am buying Canons basic adapter as i have good EF glass that I don't intend to replace anytime soon, and need at least a basic adapter i can depend on.
Is there an adapter to fit RF lenses to EOS -D series DSLR cameras? The title suggests it, but following the product link suggests that it's meant for EF lenses to be mounted on R series cameras.
Are any of your ef lenses sigma or Tamron lenses? My Tamron 45mm F1.8 says does not work. In the setting menu where can I turn on the ef mount?
Any chance the filters fit the Canon adapter?
Hi guys,,does anyone of you using a Canon R6 with Meike VND filter rf to ef, with Tamron 24-70mm 2.8 G2?
I've been using the R6 for a while now with the Tamron 24-70 and now i got the Meike adaptor VND filter but is causing some issues. Sometimes the lens loses focus and starts making noises.. anyone having the same issue? I just updated the R6 to its latest firmware
I’m confused, I see the Meike MK-EFTR-A and the Meike MK-EFTR-B, the B version lists image stabilization but the A version (in your video) does not…
On the Meike website the part number now ens in a "C".
the variable ND does not create any X-pattern or vignetting, from what we can see. This is really surprising ... but I can't see any mention of that in you interesting review. Another question: I am planning to buy the canon r5c but I have no lenses or hardware from canon. Is there any equivalent VND solution for RF lenses (on an RF mount such as the R5C) ?
I dont think so, ND is only possible when you adapt EF to RF because of the distance that's created between the mount and the back of the lens. I will say I've been extremely impressed with EF lens performance adapted to the R5C, lenses seem to focus better/faster than they do on a DSLR. You can save a lot of money getting EF equivalents since RF lenses are so damn expensive. And you could use the drop-in ND. Breakthrough Photography makes a ton of other drop-in filters, ND, CPL, Dark CPL, VariND, Night Sky, Infrared, etc.
Thanks for this video. Can I use RF Lenses on EF Mount? Greetings
No, the RF mount is the new mount for most Canon mirrorless cameras released in the last couple of years. The RF diameter is larger so they wouldn't fit.
Which VND offers better IQ - this rear drop in or the Nisi True Color external?
I want to say the Nisi. But it's very close
Ok. 90€ less. But now i have good vids from an angry wife 🙈🤣
Hows autofocus with the meike adaptors?
near perfect. Couldn't tell a difference
does this affect autofocus while recording?
nope
Excuse me I cannot find the RF to EF adapter in the links, they are all EF to RF.
@@ChevroletEpica same thing 😉
@@damiencooper so they don't exist?
@@ChevroletEpica they do. It just depends which way you look at it (literally). Lens to camera: EF to RF, Camera to lens: RF to EF. Same thing
@@damiencooper I need someone to explain your explanation 🤣
@@ChevroletEpica some people call them RF to EF, some call them EF to RF. The cameras mount is RF. But the lens mount is EF. So you can think of it as adapting the lens mount to the cameras mount (EF lens to RF camera) or you think of it as adapting the cameras mount to the lens mount (RF to EF) but it's the exact same thing
You never use a VND filter in direct sunlight. It won't work due to the fact that is made out of two polarization filters...90* rule here also like in CPLs. True NDs are other story.
Be careful with these - I had one and my Tamron 24-70 2.8 G2 were going absolutely crazy! It was making weird noises (I’m assuming it was connected with VC but haven’t happened once since I switched to Canon RF-EF). It was unpredictable - sometimes no problem, sometimes crazy loud and not able to use. It worked fine with all my old (pre 2016) Canon lenses, but didn’t worked with Tamron as intended. Great value for money, but not for those who must rely on their gear to make a living. It messed up one of my video shoots.
PS. Tamron lens had the newest firmware. Problem occured on EOS R6.
I heard meike has updated it to be working perfectly on Tamron 24-70mm G2 Now, shouldnt be any issues.
@@cinelensgeeky3648 how could they update the adapter? There is no newer firmware for this Tamron lens…
@@dziaba0303 Hi, care to send me your e-mail or FB profile? I can send you a new adapter.
Are you talking about the "c" model? Curious because I just ordered this adapter @@cinelensgeeky3648
Meike is cheap, and it breaks. Mine broke and lens fell on the ground and broke. Good bye lens. So the cheap adapter can get very expensive. I will never buy Meike again.
What lens were you using? I just ordered this adapter and I'm trying to get a feel for what weight it can withstand
