A couple of things you fail to mention. Everyone was using different set of inputs to perform screwdriver to what I was using. That's the reason I was able to get a ton of complete fights on Soda including 48.82 and 48.00 in another world circuit and others couldn't. Once I explained the inputs I was using, you were able to get 45.97 in less than 24 hours, and others followed suit. Afterward, someone looked at the code and explained as to why that was😂
I always viewed the so called "crouch glitch" as Popinksi waiting for you to be like "Huh? What's he doing?", then drop your guard so he can uppercut you. It feels in-character for him, y'know? It never felt like a glitch to me, but it helps that I discovered it casually and without the vast knowledge of the internet at the time.
I remember finding it when I was a kid, I thought that the block was similar to the dodge where you could only tap and not hold it, and I thought soda waited for the block to end to execute his uppercut. Only after beating the game did I realize you could hold it down, but I never knew you could get a star till the internet became a big thing
I've always felt like the crouch "glitch" was because Soda gets so baffled by you even attempting to block his unstoppable uppercut that he just freezes.
Great vid pap! I think this video really shows how next-level Jefe is. Dude has the ability to execute insanely tightly, and isn't deterred by extremely brutal RNG.
I had to recalc those odds like 3 times to make sure i didnt do anything wrong... Its like not that much extra he added in to the strat, but when you do so many 1 in 4's (63 in 256's) it really does skyrocket
Gotta admit, every part of these videos is neat and frequently surprising. But my favorite part is definitely hearing all the goofy names people made for each strat. And ol Vodka Popinsky is no exception.
I always like to think that Soda Popinski has been drinking too much and he's too dumb to rationalize anything beyond simple dodging and punching, so when Little Mac blocks his uppercut, he's trying to make some sense out of it.
Zallards celebration "it's done" wasn't about Soda, it was about Matt Turk. The Soda WR was the lone holdout from when Matt Turk held all the WRs in MTPO simultaneously. All other fights had either been tied or beaten except for Soda.
I've always liked Vodka Drunkenski/Soda Popinski. Challenging but fair. First time i encountered him, i had never gotten so far, so he was real easy for me when compared to Bald Bull or E Honda 2
Could MTPO be the greatest video game ever? I think so. I’m 42 and I still play it all the time learning new strategies and lowering my knockout times. It’s a puzzle game disguised as a great boxing game.
In order for soda to get locked down, you have to make sure you are pressing no buttons except DOWN, otherwise soda doesnt get put in the "locked" position. You then need to let go of down and press left gut punch so you end up buffering the gut punch so it comes out instantly (as you see, mac never blocks during the entire move). This button switch occurs right at the end of the right dodge. It is a little awkward to get your thumbs to do the correct rhythm and sequence of inputs.
@@Papamanual so my mistake is that when i am doing the slow right dodge, i buffer a left gut punch and a crouch before the dodge ends, when i should be buffering the left gut punch, then as soon as the dodging animation stops, (which is when the punch would be thrown) i then crouch with soda?
Yes I believe that is correct. I just did some trial runs on emulator, and the input sequence I used is. 1. Buffer right dodge 2. Let go of right and buffer left gut punch 3. As soon as the game registers the left gut punch, let go of B and hold only Down. (This allows you to throw the left gut punch before the Down press for the 'lockdown' and since you are mid punch, Mac wont block)
This guy was the ultimate gatekeeper for me. If by some miracle I managed to get passed him, I'd just lose to bald bull and have to struggle against popinski again until I could try bald bull again.

Speed strats in other games: Bridge skip, carpetless, pipe clip.
MTPO strats: Mississauga Mashed Potatoes, The 1936 Congressional Election Scandal, Rooty Tooty Punch and Judy

Over here killing RNGesus by accident 😂
Were you using consistent buffer strats to time things out?
Wild that it just so happened to be the magic numbers.

Haven't seen the code but it definitely feels intentional. Especially since similiar behavior doesn't really exist in the other boxers

I was 4 years old when this game was released… now I’m 40. The simplicity has longevity!
It shows that this game is a true classic. 😊😎
ayyy same!

Fantastic work Pap. This is such a good series.

Hippo manippo is an S tier trick name!
Wacky waker is the best one
Bro Salt being an MTPO runner is just perfect considering he does incredible speedrunning content
100% a legend

Ooooooh. Another Pap Video! Love seeing these when I wake up in the morning. A great one as always dude!
Yo this is a great video. I remember the Zallard Wr and how fast it happened, fun times! Soda Pop really has a cool WR history
Perfect timing. Just binged everything up to piston Honda 2.

I see what you did there with the GTA IV theme. Great job pap.

Another great vid from the goat
Another great record essay!

Love your vids :)
cant wait for the history of the glass joe world record
im honestly hyped for the moment pappi is going to say hOwEvEr in this video...
Great job Pap, love this series, and yes drunk dudes never play nice!
Speedrunners: For simplicity combination is short short short long long short and long long
Me: Yes, sir, I can boogie if you run, you can't go wrong
I'm probably the only one to notice, but I like the inclusion of the Operation Neptune music
I beat Soda Popinsky, Mr. Sandman and Mike Tyson but for some strange reason I just can’t beat Super Macho Man
?
All these years later, people are still pushing Punch Out to it's lowest times possible.

wake up babe, new pap video.

@@Papamanual oh hey, it worked for me. Thanks man. I will try and get 49:XX or below with this.
Wait so will he get STUCK in crouching mode?
for a couple of seconds.
SODA!!!!!
I've went less than 43 sec...I lost, but it was in less than 43 sec.
What is heart in game and what exactly do?
The heart is Mac's stamina (not health). When the hearts reach 0, you cant punch until you dodge some punches consecutively and regain stamina.
@@Papamanual Thank you

Do not like the pronouns. One dude is playing yet it's told like many are playing one character. Too confusing.
Multiple people were running though, he's referencing the many runners attempting to get WR
