Before you finished the intro, I had to pause the video and buy one of these
At first I thought you were joking when you said you were going to load the tone prints from your phone by placing it near the pickups.
Wow, that is insane.
Great review!
Toneprint has become an addiction for me.
Always fun when someone learns about Toneprints for the first time haha. My head exploded the first time I did it.
It's way more than just beaming a setting. The knobs on the pedal can be set to anything you want (up to three things per knob at the same time), and you can even adjust the curves of each knob. The options are incredible, especially for making a mini pedal way more than what it should be.
@@homeslice1479 And this was my first time... mind blown.
I'm confused, I heard somewhere that this pedal is really small n cute, but in this vid it's like 3feet long ... what gives dude?
Camera is zoomed in on the pedal
HA!
Ian N R/whoooosh
It's small and cute....for giants
don't you see the hand of the guy is like godzilla over it!! hahaha
I think this is my favorite playing I’ve heard from you. Nice job.
Really great video! I feel more confident in the purchase. And thanks for explaining in a concise way.
Thanks. The 12 string and bass sounds are pretty impressive.
Nice to see one of these with the UP setting instead of your typical octave with a sub. I was specifically seeking one with the UP to mimic the 8 or 12 string bass ala Tom Peterson or Dug Pinnick. This will pair up nicely with my June 60 pedal and my Sansamp YYZ Geddy Lee pedal.
Great dive into this pedal. I've been looking for something in octave or pitch shifting and have had a hard time making a choice. This seems like a solid little pedal to consider. I did not realize the mini had toneprint compatibility!
that intro tune is amazing
Do a comparison of the mini vs the big one ! Keep doing great review LOVE IT !
M. J. G. Agreed, they are completely different.
Yet another great review! If you ever decide you want/need to part ways with that beautiful Airline, hit me up. I would buy it in a heartbeat.
Could you try testing the dry signal with a separate buffer pedal ahead of the SubnUp? To me, that extra brightness you get with just the dry signal from the pedal versus bypassed sounds like it's just adding in a buffer but I'd be interested to see if that's true. Cheers!
another good demo.
It sounds like it is buffering the signal when it is dry is all up and the octaves are down.
10:45 Deep Sea Diver, the video gets mighty tasty here; I think you nailed this demo nicely. Thank you.
Spooky intro :D TC is crazy good
is this pedal good for emulating bass from the guitar? debating on this versus the ehx pitchfork
I love your videos!!!
i love the broken tron
What was the last patch? was it fuzz? dope sound!!
Nice job! It's just funny that a lot of people think that the tone difference between the bypassed and the uneffected engaged pedal is due to a buffer, when it's very obvious that the not very good AD/DA conversion is the responsble factor.
Just change the internal dip-switch position to "true bypass".
@@luizc.mileti6691 When the pedal is engaged it doesn't matter if the bypass is configured true or buffered. With a pedal like this (where the original signal is converted and not led through like in a digitech polara, obscura etc.) the only option is to put it in a parallel loop.
I love the sound of both the Subnup and the anther Octaver (I'm a TC Elec Fan). Do I really need both in your opinion, or are they covering the same ground...I'm kind of comparing to having a Boss Harmonist and a Super Octave. Or is there a TC Harmonist type pedal and then I get tat and chose between the Nether and Subnup? Your thoughts my friend?
I meant "Nether" Octaver!
the toneprint download thing is sheer witchcraft. . where's my spike for identifying witches.
ok...im buying this NOW
The good and bad news is that it was barely recognizable as Hotel Cal.Maybe some early Bowie next time out?
I've tried to warm to these T.C. products, Tone Prints and all, but there always seems to be something lacking.Thought maybe this could replace the crappy bypass on the Pitchfork, but- not at the cost of good features and better sound.
Bet that boost when effect killed is just the buffer, which is usually , I suspect, not a plus in many of their efforts.Haven't given up- sure they make something fun and good in the state of Denmark.
Is there a way to fix the colouration of the octaves when places after the fuzz? Because before it just sounds an absolute mess as can be seen here. The sub is unusable with fuzz
Nice demo, thx! I saw somebody posted videos saying he cannot get back to the default tone print setting after any other thing is loaded from the app. Is that true? Do you have the same problem?... I have this pedal but therefore dare not to load tone print settings... Cheers!
Chi Gamy sometimes the tone print app has trouble. If you plug it into a computer with the tone print editor you can always get the stock settings back that way.
When you added the fuzz (about 4 minutes in or so), was the fuzz pedal before or after the Sub n Up?
Love your videos dude. Two big thumbs up for this pedal. But i think the f# chord in hotel california is supposed to be major, not minor?
Can I do the Silhouette's guitar intro with this pedal?
gets tasty with the fuzz
DUDE!
THAT INTRO WAS SICK!
You should use it in a song.
its a riff off a Camper Van Beethoven song i think, i can remember which one.
The 12 string demo didn’t quite sound like a 12 string. Anyone know if this pedal can be used to simulate a 12 string closely enough to replace one? Considering the cost of 12 string electric or acoustics.
Are these not analog dry through? The tone should remain unchanged when the dry is off no?
What was the first toneprint? The "out the box" one? Problem with toneprint is that you spend time trying out sounds. I love my Sub n Up mini. You can save your favourite ( or build your own sound) and save them in the app. I also have TC Corona Chorus and love it too!
I did not like the stock setting using mine since the low octave bass and sub octave was still too prominent even turned all the way down. I found however one tone print setting that gave me more flexibility for the bass that would allow me to totally cut out the bass on the lowest setting, yet I could still bring it up for a nice balanced tone. Unlike my old octave pedal, the bass with this is nice and deep, warm and more natural sounding to me.
Which setting did you use , I’ve just got one and I read if you load the tone prints and reset the default setting it’s not the same as the factory setting ?
I wish whenever people reviewed octave pedals theyd play some CKY
Ben Asslick fereal
@@shakejunt3hunna closest budget pedal to the Boss OC2 which CKY uses is the Valeton oc10 but it warbles a bit at times when u hold notes
Which one is the tone print in the beginning of the video? I'm trying to emulate a bass as you played but I don't get it as realistic as your's. I tried several tone prints.
Is that a pitcher or octaver?
There is a buffer, that’s why it’s brighter when on with all the octaves off.
I was originally leaning towards the full sub'n'up, but while that won't fit on my board, this one will. I'm thinking it might be fun to add a bit of octaves to heavy fuzz/od or add some layers to an ambient reverb/delay octavey sound already. Not really super worried about the synth/organ sounds.
While I'm sure the big brother is a better pedal, as a person who's not a big octaver, would this be good enough? Video seems to say so, but just curious what other people's impressions on it might be
I ended up finding the sub n up to be very heavy on the lows, if you are running it before drives or into an amp that can handle it its a bunch of fun. But I tend to favor the EHX Pitchfork for my octave sounds these days.
@@60CycleHumcast Good to know! I do see how you made a video of the micro pog vs pitch fork vs subnup mini. I'll give that a go, as the pitch fork will fit!
@@60CycleHumcast Man, Really liking the pitch fork! I'm actually an idiot and didn't realize it could do multiple octaves until your video. A bassist friend uses it, but he's always just done the one octave and I didn't know you could do up and down.
I totally find myself realizing the pitch fork is the way to go, just way too much low end on the subnup. And with it being small enough, I'll still be able to fit it in an already tightly packed mini board
Thanks for the comment following up on mine and great videos, my dude.
@@60CycleHumcast I found the same thing initially - it was unusable mush. But... once you dive into the editor, you can turn the sub2 off (or lower it, maybe add a low cut) and the thing went from useless to incredible! They should have either added the sub2 knob, or left it off by default. Adding a little back can make a nice deep faux bass. I'm really happy with it now, it kills!
Hey man, those fuzz sounds are not coming out right somehow ... they are not getting any air, I am just hearing fizz, plop on my monitors ... either it's recording process (mic?) or what I found is that if you place the subnup after fuzz in the chain, overall sound is way richer, smoother, whole new dimension. But fuzzes are pain to record in general.
how do you restore the MINI to factory setting??
Interesting. I think the EHX Pitchfork is more versatile but I haven't seen all the TC patches. What parameters do the patches actually control?
Thomas Kirby everything. You can add drive. Modulation in the wet signal filter the individual octaves and more. The pitch for has more pitches available but yoo only have 1 at a time and way less controll over the parameters. The pot hfork is a great whammy alternative though
Thomas Kirby TC has just released a harmonizer pedal that should be very similar to the pitch fork but with the versatility of TonePrint
The Pitchfork is a thing of beauty and does some really cool stuff, BUT if you're just after a polyphonic octave pedal, the Sub 'n' Up allows you to adjust the volume mix of the dry and octave sound, you can't do that on the Pitchfork. Plus here you have the extra programmability via the Toneprint editor and beam-in presets.
Love this Ryan! Check out how I'm using it on bass guitar!!!
The Sub'N'Up Mini's 12-string emulation at 6:27 was way better than I feared it would be - not the primary use I'd have for this pedal *when* I buy one (it's not "if", now 😅), but with careful setup it could be a handy extra tonal option. A polyphonic octaver for well under £100 which doesn't glitch all the time? I'll take one 🙏
Does it track chords well in that setting
@@leobender2910 The Sub-n-Up “tracks” *very* well, I think - as with synth-pedals like the BOSS SY-1, it helps if you don’t “feed” it complex chords with many notes, but I find “double-stops” and even triads are no problem. I’ve owned mine for about two years now, and it’s great 👍🏻
@@digitalramyun I watched Micro POG demos and it seems to track chords better than anything but it sounds like... well a synth
Important tip is to go into the editor and turn off the sub2. Otherwise it's way too bassy, at least for guitar speakers imo. You can add a little back to taste, among a zillion other ways to tweak. Once you have your sound dialed, you never have to use the computer again, just use the knobs.
Are you Woody Harrelson related?
Song at beginning is creepy. Reminds of the movie IT!
The change in the dry tone when on might becuase its acting like buffer when on.
it probably is buffer related
With fuzz it just sounds like a Earthquaker Devices Bit Commander
Exactly.
honestly, the mere fact that you can screw with all the patches makes this thing insanely useful. I'm looking for a new octave pedal for looping, and I think one of the patches he flashed with the high's cut out would make a very nice bass tone for looping. Awesome
This thing does a great faux bass tone with the Dry and Up knobs all the way down and the Sub all the way up
What fuzz are you using?
probably a pelican noiseworks half horse. thats usually what i'm using.
What kind of guitar strap is that
Why there's a strato with a tele headstock in the background? 😂
So you would ask why.
is th eehx pogs digital or analogue?
Digital
which better - the sub-n-up or ehx nano Pog? or something else?
Considering how dirt cheap this is for a polyphonic octave plus all the stuff you can do with toneprint I'd say the Sub n Up. Unless you really want to use the separate outputs for the wet/dry signal.
Iggytommy the sub-n-up mini is about $100 less than the nano pog, the normal size sub-n-up is $80 less than the nano pog, the full size sub-n-up has a 2nd sub octave and can switch between polyphonic, monophonic and TonePrint vs just the one that the mini can use at a time
Hi is it better in the FX loop or front of amp before or after a distortion pedal excellent demo thanks
At 1:40 it went to monophonic. I don't get that.
What brand guitar
The guitar in this video is an Airline '59 3PT
What kind of guitar is that?
Justin Doss airline 59 2pt, it’s a great guitar!
which company this guitar ?
AN Airline reissue made by Eastwood. Specifically the Airline 59 2PT. Jack White from the White Stripes has an original Airline
This will make me sound like the Black Keys I think.
that thing can get some mutron 'superstitous' type sounds
odd that the dry only is different to the bypassed. hmm
It's because the pedal output is buffered. Without a buffer some top end is lost for every foot of cable used.
@@plugitin4656 It's because TC Electronic's AD/DA conversion is not very good. That's way I have it in one of the loops of my EH Tri Parallel Mixer.
seems too track poorly on the sub setting
Back when this channel actually demoed pedals
What do we do with pedals now? - steve
How can you be so white and be so funky?! (I swear this is a Steve Martin quote, but I can't get Google to back me up.)
Maybe from the King Tut song?
Some of those chords are from Hotel California but you didn't play Hotel California. Breach of contract.
i hate the eagles. i got triggered.
it was a contractural obligation.
The Dude abides.
i don't play anything right.
Me too. I also hate Bruce Springsteen.
This is what happens when you don't give your kids "the talk"...They grow up hating The Eagles...
i dont have smartphone in my pocket. i dont have smartphone or use mobile phone.
Then you have to connect the pedal to a computer to use toneprint
my @rse I will :p
indeed. that was nasty. why go on for so long? my ears are bleeding.
I like this channel, but pretty bad demo of this pedal IMO.
this is a pretty old video, I was still figuring stuff out.
@@60CycleHumcast got it. Ordinarily I really like your channel - Thanks!
