On September 1st, 2019, approximately 5-6 hours before he was scheduled to perform his last show of his Strings Attached tour at the Verizon Arena in Little Rock, AR, Weird Al came and visited me for about 15 minutes while I was at UAMS being treated for cancer (I have Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma; was diagnosed with it on May 30, 2019). My sister went all over social media to try to get someone to contact him and let him know that a big fan of his was in the hospital, and she was hoping that he would get the message (I dropped all my social media contacts for reasons which I won't go into here). You see, she initially was going to get me tickets to see him at Verizon Arena, but when the diagnosis came in, she thought the next best thing would be to try to get Mr. Al's attention and get him to visit me. Well, let me tell you, that 15 minute visit with him was far, far better than seeing him in concert (I have seen him in concert five times before, and he has always put on a great show), and I will, for as long as I can remember, be grateful to him for taking time from his schedule to see me. And with just five hours before his show started... Weird Al has always struck me as being a celebrity that has not allowed celebrity status to get to his head, and this visit confirmed it for me. And his visit could not have come at a better time, given that my overall stay was about 16 days when it was only supposed to be about 6-7. It was incredibly discouraging and frustrating for me to have to stay that long, and his visit did so much to lift my spirits. It really, really did. I know my post will get swallowed up by all the other posts that have been made here, and I don't expect anyone to respond or read it. That's A-OK with me. But if Weird Al should, by the stroke of random chance, happen to read this, I want him to know that I am so incredibly grateful to him for taking the time to see me. It could not have come at a better time. Thank you, sir. Thank you for your kindness. God bless you and keep up the fine work. P.S At this moment, my cancer is in complete remission. Praise God for that!
Thank you for writing this. It's good to know that there are still good people in the world. I wish you all the best. After reading your comment, I'm sure Al got just as much out of meeting with you as you got from meeting with him. :-) Good luck to you.
This was the first UA-cam I watched ever. I watched this everyday before school in 7th grade before my dad would drive me to school. He patiently would rewatch this with me as I memorized it. He passed away 5 years ago but this brings a smile to my face of those middle school mornings with him.
