I love the way you calmly and clearly walk people through what you do and why, and don't ever assume knowledge. And I love how you always leave in Cat appearances.
I appreciate that at 15:43 you opted to not self-deprecate, and instead used the opportunity to emphasize the value of contributing to a community! I know when people do the first route it’s often with the intent of highlighting the real standouts of the competition, but IMO talking down your own work in such a context has the opposite effect and can devalue the effort of your competitors. It’s a small thing for sure, but I’m always glad to see the different ways your positive approach to hobbying can make our space a better one :)
I cannot say this Enough, but your content is the most wholesome Miniature Painting content on the whole web! I know why i usually recommend this Channel to ppl new to Miniature Painting.
You seem like such an exemplary human being. I seriously always want to give you a big old hug! I took my son fishing today, and the smallies didn't bite the lures we had. I suppose I should've brought some space marines.
Me: “Man that archer is looking amazing” Brent: “We’ve got a couple of days to make the archer look good.” Me: “Yes, yes, of course. I was just thinking the same thing 😅”
Hey Brent. I just want to let you know that i love your Channel. I am already more than 40 years on this planet and just started casual painting Minis for one particular game. I randomly watch your videos although i use only a small percentage of your Tips because you are such a friendly and heartwarming person. Inlove the way how authentic you are. Keep up the great work 💪🤩
Hahaha, so much fun. Seeing Lyla's reaction in the intro and then later in the longer cut got some chuckles out of me. And I love that sprue structure! It looked awesome even before the Milliput! Mayhaps I'll try something like that after I buy some injection molded minis instead of just 3D printing. It's always a joy to see the Goobertown Cats. And to be seeing your skills grow over the years! Your personality and approach got me subscribed long before I ever had interest in minis, and now the wonderful personalities and awesome art in the community have infected me with the painting bug. Next step, indoctrinate my fiancé~
Thats a really cool entry i love how you created the stairs!! Also i think its a very good paint job and i look forward to you doing the next entry and please give your self plenty of time 😊
I really appreciate your super chilled, friendly approach to your videos. And kudos on the mini, looked great. I teach in a university, and what you say about grading is spot on. I sometimes catch myself out, and have another teacher second grade a submission, if I feel I was a bit too generous/harsh for reasons other than the quality of the work.
11:06 Oh hey! Its my Magnus! I had a great time meeting you and getting some criticisms on my submission at The Ides Of March. I have some big plans for that model, Awesome video! Hope to see you around.
Your modifications to the model were great. I recall seeing a wizard with tactical glasses walking around. Wild that it was really you. Like you, I also pushed myself to enter a model into golden demon. It certainly wasn’t a notable entry but I learned a lot and felt proud of my work.
I spent a lot of yesterday typing "warmachine" into eBay because of you... :-) It was awesome to meet you, I've been thinking about those werewolves a lot!
Great entry. I am looking forward to seeing what you do next year with more time allotted! Perhaps Bert Maybers could become Ernie Wilber. Enjoyed watching the process! Hope your voice has recovered!
Brent, really cool video as always ! I think it's a pretty healthy experience to attend to one or 2 contests once in a while, it helps growing as minipainter, gives tons of opportunity to get incredible inspiration and also get reviews on our work :) I attended 6 contests since I started minipainting 2 years ago, and won 3 times. Of course these were local and amateur contests, but still, it's a very rich experience to have under out belts^^ Congrats for giving it a shot, and hope you'll try another one when you fancy it ;) Cheers from France !
The rest of the video is great but honestly, you deserve some props for having the patience to actually cut and glue all those sprues together to make the stairs.
The end result is very cool. Perhaps (tentatively) you could set a shelf aside and now and again do a hobby project which is aiming to consolidate/push your skills or just symbolises a landmark in your journey; mount each on a plinth then at some point you can look along and admire them and remember the story. While it's clear you know what you like, and it's entirely reasonable to admit you don't want to be a painting superstar, I think many viewers might enjoy seeing you taking on some challenges to level up your skills on painting, basing, dioramas (even if you ultimately choose to pick up more simple projects again). Either way, your videos are really cool too so please keep up the good work - a second video in short succession was a real bonus this week :)
This is the coolest video I've watched in a long time. I love the idea. I love that Lyla picked you immediately. I love that Bert/Burt showed that sprue minis aren't stock minis.
this channel is wild because the host looks like me and also arrives at similar conclusions about hobbies, but also leading a completely different life. it's surreal, like I'm looking at a mirror of an alternate existence
I am relatively new to mini painting & came across your video while looking for inspiration. It was very entertaining and worth a sub. Happy Modeling ~ Cory
So one of the cool things they talk about over on the grimdark compendium is using different kinds of varnish to paint with texture, when you were talking about the battle of helms deep I thought that you were going to use a speckling of ultragloss to simulate the drops of rain hitting the stone, maybe mixed in with some very dilute black or blue ink.
Amazing job, and a great video! I do have a little bit of critical feedback on the miniature too. The miniature was phenomenal, but I would have liked to see a little more color variation in the brickeword. A slight tan, a faint gray-red, just something to break up the surface. Fantastic job as always, you actively inspire me to be more positive about my own work, while still being able to see the flaws.
agreed! I couldn't think of a good color to make it that would make it more visible without pulling focus... In the movie the whole scene is pretty much just black, so that didn't really help...
This was great! I love that you were able to use old sprue for the base. I’ve been using it to elevate models in place of layers of cork, especially if it’s just going to get covered with putty/texture paste anyways. Your model looks great, especially considering the time crunch you were under! 🤘🤘It was great getting a chance to chat with you at the con too! Apologies to everyone’s eyes for my love handle sneaking through in ceremony clip. At least it didn’t seem to throw off the white balance on your camera. 🤣🤣🤣
I really enjoyed this video. It was interesting to watch you customize then paint your mini and build a custom stand. I really liked the finished mini. I hope you do this again. I loved the disguise too! Very funny. Thank for a fun and interesting video.
Definitely going to recycle some sprues for making terrain pieces. great idea. I'll probably just use dry wall fill compound, to fill the gaps, but same idea.
Great video and I am inspired to build a spru plinth. Bummed I overlooked this entry in the case. I was going to enter Resin Beast. But will try to get in the case next year.
i love this, i do wish you had the time to do something with the back arm to make it look more like he was reaching for the next arrow, but that's a small nitpick that doesnt affect the final opinion. Beautiful work for the time you put in, the shield and hair adjustment really serve to illustrate movement, and the colour composition really works for a woodsman type character (special shoutout to that orange accent choice, really made the greens pop)
Aw man, when I saw the stance the bow figure was in I thought you were going to be making that archer from tiktok that does pole dancing. I'm sad that wasn't it, but shield surfing down a staircase is an incredible alternative. And it turned out great!
Love this video Brent! Next year you need to enter as Pete Mopsicle (i recently started paint bravely from season 1). Also, i saw in another comment you responded about checking eBay for Warmachine minis. You absolutely need to paint up a Trollbloods Northkin Fire Eaters unit or a Kilt Lifter
The people laughing at me in the first 10 seconds of this video are Eric's Hobby Workshop and Lyla Mev 🙂
Lyla passed her perception check 😏
I KNEW I recognized that laugh! how was the inquisitor game with eric?
it was somethin alright! the level of granularity was excessive to the point of being really funny hehehe @@frogjog8822
Subbed to all 3 of you guys
you have excellent taste@@MrFahqup
Lyla instantly recognizing you was hilarious!
right? don't ever try to fool lyla! :-)
The mini witch sees all
Its the witch powers after all! haha. I loved it, so fitting.@@LylaMev
I love the way you calmly and clearly walk people through what you do and why, and don't ever assume knowledge. And I love how you always leave in Cat appearances.
hehehehe, thanks!!! editing out all these dang cats is too much work anyway ;-)
I have one of those quality control cats as well.
they're very useful! :-)@@semihkaracan9112
The cat shots make your channel more personable. I love it.
Bert sold me mad cap mushrooms behind the Army Painter booth
Miscast is a NARC??? I should've known!
Thanks Bernt! Sometimes our work is not measured by layers of paint but by weight of sprue.
well said, well said!!
I recognize a Sun Tzu quote when I see one.

hey right on! it was cool to see absolutely everything in that case :-)
Yo those were my entries! The red demon and yellow fat guy! Good job "Bert" and it was awesome to meet you!
nice!!!! great to meet you too :-)
I cannot say this Enough, but your content is the most wholesome Miniature Painting content on the whole web!
I know why i usually recommend this Channel to ppl new to Miniature Painting.
aww TY! :-)
I love that you picked Helm's Deep to gather inspiration. My boys are about to watch this scene for the first time. They are gonna the shield slide!
classic, total classic! have fun you guys :-)
Lyla is just a gem to the community.
Also, absolutely love Bert!
You seem like such an exemplary human being. I seriously always want to give you a big old hug! I took my son fishing today, and the smallies didn't bite the lures we had. I suppose I should've brought some space marines.
you can have a big 'ol hug if I see you at an event someday :-) In the meantime, good luck with the fishing later in the season!! :-)
Great painting, Bert (Burt) and looking forward to next year's entry. Give yourself two weeks next time.
this is a better strategy hehehe, thanks!! :-)
Good to see your employers (the cats) keeping an eye on your painting progress! 😻😹
With the beard and the glasses you went from Coastal to Interior Maine real quick.
The beard actually looks really natural on you. A glimpse into future Brent?
hehehe, something to look forward to! :-) Thanks for the great guerilla camera work on this one
I could swear that was Eric's laugh at the start! You two have the most distinct voices in hobby youtube!
The disguise was hilarious
Love the Suddenly Lyla, she's great.
100% :-)
Me: “Man that archer is looking amazing”
Brent: “We’ve got a couple of days to make the archer look good.”
Me: “Yes, yes, of course. I was just thinking the same thing 😅”

Those were all such great paints! Yours was so good and cool and reminded me of how many para bellum minis i still want to collect
This is the first video that's actually made me consider entering a painting competition, definitely not as scary as I thought
You can do it! :-)
Hahaha, so much fun. Seeing Lyla's reaction in the intro and then later in the longer cut got some chuckles out of me. And I love that sprue structure! It looked awesome even before the Milliput! aw hey thanks!! good luck with that indoctrination, have fun you two! :-)
Thats a really cool entry i love how you created the stairs!!
Also i think its a very good paint job and i look forward to you doing the next entry and please give your self plenty of time 😊
I really appreciate your super chilled, friendly approach to your videos. And kudos on the mini, looked great. I teach in a university, and what you say about grading is spot on. there you are! :-) Keep painting all your magnuses, we shall meet again!
Lyla saw through your disguise very fast, and love to see the quality control was keeping his eye on you at your desk, no slacking with him around 😅😅
Bert Neighbors is one of my favorite UA-cam mini painters. I've learned a lots from Bert and I like seeing his cats. 😊
That Bert seems like a cool dude. I'm glad your piece made it back in uh, one piece- it's beautiful!! So nice to see you at Adepticon!
heck yeah! cheers to another great year :-)
I wish that I had my own live Goobertown editor for my work meetings. I defiantly feel the "oops, I got rambely" lolol
hehehehe, the trick is to notice in-the-moment.... very hard to do! :-)
Pro tip for next year: use milliput to make a disguise face.
Great video Brent. Love the sprue steps idea. So easy, yet elegant
😆 amazing! I think we all should enter using pseudonyms next year lol. I love your nod to Legolas. Using the spures to make stairs was so smart.
hehehe, I hope you have some good names picked out!! :-)
Wow nice job on the paint and conversation! Keep up the great work and keep videos like these coming!
hey TY! :-)
Your modifications to the model were great. I recall seeing a wizard with tactical glasses walking around. Wild that it was really you. Like you, I also pushed myself to enter a model into golden demon. It certainly wasn’t a notable entry but I learned a lot and felt proud of my work.
that's awesome! keep paintin keep paintin! also yeah these gunnar gaming glasses are so stupid, I love em.
Brent hitting us with that second camera angle is the unexpected magic that keeps Goobertown Goobin
BAM! hehehe, I'm tryin, I'm tryin! :-)
it's goobin time
Gave me good vibes too!
It's definitely a fun little tweak to the formula that gives an extra little authenticity, and it looks like fun, too.
Great to meet you at the Army Painter booth. And I forgot to thank you for the work you put in for the development and testing videos of speed paints.
Hey great to meet you too!!! I think that actually might have been immediate after I took the robe off 😃
Ha. This was awesome. And bow chosen are one of my favorite sculpts too. Well chosen!
they're great minis! One of many big step-ups in quality that conquest has had in the past few years :-)
Great to meet you at Adepticon Sir! Glad you had fun at the con and competition, perhaps I'll see you around the neighbourhood!!
For a week's worth of painting I'd say it turned out awesome! Definitely inspiring me to bust out the paints again and get back to hobbying.
hey thanks paul! get back at it! :-)
Nice work on the mini and his staircase base! It was a pleasure meeting you at Armies on Parade with my Circle Orboros army for Warmachine.
I spent a lot of yesterday typing "warmachine" into eBay because of you... :-) It was awesome to meet you, I've been thinking about those werewolves a lot!
Such a great video. Awesome job on the mini. Love the plynth you made and how you made it even more!
I can't wait for Bert episodes.
Was waiting for this video to come out! Can't wait to see how you did
hehehe, thanks james, hope you're having a good one :-)
lol tears. This was great and I loved your decision to have your first entry as a benchmark.
Great entry. I am looking forward to seeing what you do next year with more time allotted! Perhaps Bert Maybers could become Ernie Wilber.
Enjoyed watching the process! Hope your voice has recovered!
Ooooh, Ernie Wilbur is a wonderful name!! :-)
Brent, really cool video as always ! I think it's a pretty healthy experience to attend to one or 2 contests once in a while, it helps growing as minipainter, gives tons of opportunity to get incredible inspiration and also get reviews on our work :)

Cheers from France !
cheers! :-)
The rest of the video is great but honestly, you deserve some props for having the patience to actually cut and glue all those sprues together to make the stairs.
hehehe it took longer than I guessed it would
Probably the best Gabe Newell cosplay I've ever seen. :p
"But mostly I became Bert Mabers, becasue I think its pretty funny." Us too Brent, us too! 😂
Hehehehe :-)
It was such a pleasure and an honour to meet Bert.
right back atcha :-)
Great content. Love the changes in camera angles when you are talking to us.
Wonderful piece! So glad you had fun. Great job. Great video. Great channel.
Great video Brent! Bummed I didn't get to meet you, but yoy have inspired me to enter the painting comp at Salute 51 in the UK !😊
Nice! Have fun working on your piece, and I'm sure we'll run into each other one of these days :-)
Making his eyes look in the direction of the bow would have solidified the movement a lot. Fun project! :D
I love how positive u always r and look it makes me happy
hope you're having a great day! :-)

Love this video, some fun and some self honesty. I appreciate the goals you set for yourself and your realistic optimism.
This is the coolest video I've watched in a long time. I love the idea. I love that Lyla picked you immediately. I love that Bert/Burt showed that sprue minis aren't stock minis.
Fun video, loved Lyla's reaction though.
I loved everything about this video 😘👌
Also great job dude on the entry
hehehe, thanks peachy!
It was greating catching up for a few minutes with you Brent. The pieces in the case this year were stunning!
Using sprues to make a great looking stone object like that is such a good idea. Gave me lot of inspiration.
It could be 18 minutes or 18 hour videos and I think all of us would watch the entire thing. Well done sir, absolutely love your content!
thanks! we'll put that to the test someday :-)
Goobs, you should have your co-host in more videos, loved how he/she was sitting beside you like it was their show too
she can always be tempted by that fake beard :-)
this channel is wild because the host looks like me and also arrives at similar conclusions about hobbies, but also leading a completely different life. it's surreal, like I'm looking at a mirror of an alternate existence
hehehehehe is your name bert?
Your cat sat patiently for the unboxing was a delight. Good luck to Bert next year.
I am relatively new to mini painting & came across your video while looking for inspiration. It was very entertaining and worth a sub. Happy Modeling ~ Cory

good call! I also meant to put some scrape marks on the top stairs... but whoops, not enough time! :-)
I love that your supervisor keeps popping in to check your progress.
Schrödinger's Bert before it is spelled it is both Burt and Bert. Loved this video.
Looking forward to hear you and casey chat about this man. There is always more to the story once you guys dive into it on paint bravely :)
hehehe, I got stopped by TSA on they way back while Miscast and Casey pointed and laughed!
Love all the little tweaks to the model and that base turned out great.
Thanks a bunch! :-)
Damn! I would have loved to meet you at Adepticon. Great work on the mini!
look for the wizard next time! ;-) We'll meet one of these days, I'm looking forward to it!
Bert you did a great job. Look forward to seeing you in the future.
That laugh from Lyla!
right? high perception AND charisma! :-)
Seems like a fun experience, and the final result is great. Wish there was more contrast between the shield and the backdrop tho
agreed! I couldn't think of a good color to make it that would make it more visible without pulling focus... In the movie the whole scene is pretty much just black, so that didn't really help...
I love watching you paint minis. My hands shake too much to do it anymore.
awww, sorry to hear that! but thanks for hangin out :-)
This was great!
I love watching your videos with my cats. It's common ground!
aww, say hi to your cats for us! :-)
Didn't fool Lyla! Thanks for another great video
she cannot be fooled!! :-)
Nice work Bert! 😉
Brent, I mean Burt, I mean Bert - most excellent story video!
Such a lovely mini. Well done Bert.
I absolutely love the Dino Lizard Orcs from Conquest. They're probably one of my favorite miniature lines out there.
Definitely going to recycle some sprues for making terrain pieces. great idea. I'll probably just use dry wall fill compound, to fill the gaps, but same idea.
have fun with it! :-)
The best and most down to earth youtube miniature painter.
Great video and I am inspired to build a spru plinth. Bummed I overlooked this entry in the case. I was going to enter Resin Beast. But will try to get in the case next year.
Next year for sure!! :-)
Thanks for the video! Congrats on the fun!
i love this, i do wish you had the time to do something with the back arm to make it look more like he was reaching for the next arrow, but that's a small nitpick that doesnt affect the final opinion. Beautiful work for the time you put in, the shield and hair adjustment really serve to illustrate movement, and the colour composition really works for a woodsman type character (special shoutout to that orange accent choice, really made the greens pop)
17:20 I don't want to backseat edit, but we all wanted to see what happened right after this cut. (The dubiousness on display there is killing me!)
hehehe, Snuffles is allowed to play with the beard and carry it around the studio, don't worry! :-)
0:50 I wish more channels would do this! Genius idea!
Lololol
Aw man, when I saw the stance the bow figure was in I thought you were going to be making that archer from tiktok that does pole dancing. I'm sad that wasn't it, but shield surfing down a staircase is an incredible alternative. And it turned out great!
a really fun concept executed well! loved the sprue build
inspirational tactical rock saved the day
Love this video Brent!
I’m still here for the fishing, but this vid was great! Great idea for the disguise!
Love it! Well done. I really want to go to some of these events!
Someday you will! These conventions are a lot of fun :-)
