make it a series. "Just painting a mini". These Bob Ross calm walkthroughs of the process are actually interesting and can even help some people that are struggling with similar problems in their own projects.
Exactly.. you learn nothing. It’s about how big a terrain they can make, how many products donated and etc. I’m going back to print as I find it much more informative with detailed photos and instructions.. YT is ruining more than just the hobby.. go pick up some modeling books as they’ve become cheaper and not “but wait, there’s more” type nonsense.
There's too many people trying to become a youtube personality under the guise of "chasing the algorithm" in the niche at the moment. I'm glad to see Scott take a small break from teh rat race and just paint something.
Absolutely love this! I watch because I love painting and want to see people enjoy themselves painting, not because I want to "learn to paint like a GOD in under 11 MINUTES!!!" More content like this would make me a happy viewer!
When you got to the sponsor segment, I was expecting to have to skip some scripted mobile game ad. But I stayed all the way through it because (just like the video at large) you just talked to us about something cool you've been working with lately, and showed us some incredible stuff in an interesting but chill way.
This might be due to the knowledge base I have from your other videos but I feel like this was in some way, a good refresher. It was a "here's the techniques I used, this is what it looks like at the start, middle, and end." A no fuss review of the results various techniques can give, essentially.
It's kinda fun you made that observations of busts often being just character studies, without too much unnecessary klimbim. It's exactly why I love painting (most of) them. And also why sculpting them is often more fun than minis.
Bob Ross had a crazy amount of episodes. He just painted, no gimmicks, no clickbait, just painting and being himself. Everyone loves Bob Ross for that very reason.
2:38 I really agree with this point. I think that's why I sometimes enjoy painting older models from the 80s, 90s or early 2000s, more than modern sculpts. While the modern ones look impressive when done, they tend to be a bit of an uphill struggle to complete sometimes due to their abundance of details.
Yes!! More of this, please! I love watching people paint in this edited video style. Don't discover the cure for cancer, just show us what you painted and edit it so that it's not 10 hour long. Maybe you can make it as some sort of series, whenever you paint something you like, you show us how you did it.
Honestly I think the simplicity of this video idea and project made it more enjoyable than your recent average. Hooked me from start to end, just getting to watch you take a really cool sculpt, and give it a nice, character filled paint job. Interesting and punchy video concepts are cool, but there's something relaxing about a video where it's just someone hobbying. I think my favorite part was the fact you chose a sculpt that's incredibly detailed, and has an awesome concept / visual storytelling, but isn't cluttered visually. GW models are cool, but as you point out they're often cluttered. With this bust every single element is very carefully chosen to give it character, but there's no 'junk', nothing that's just there to look cool with no function. I'd love to see you paint more models like this, or your custom Vampire mini that you commissioned, in this more relaxed style of video. Peaceful hobby vibes 10/10 Paintjob 10/10 Model choice 10/10 I hope you make more content like this in future.
You know out of all the miniature youtubers I follow I think that Pete the wargamer is the only one who straight up just makes videos of him hobbying, everyone else I follow either tries to come up with something new every time or makes tutorials for specific things.
I actually really like this style of video. There's no need for some grand revelation in every single one. Just watching you do the thing is enough, it needs no excuses, I think.
More of this! Not every video needs to be something gimmicky (like so many big creators I’m seeing lately), there’s a real therapeutic aspect to just watching a master at his craft paint something.
That way of showing the paints used and mixing ratios by annotating your wet palette is sexy AF. Also loved the high quality animation to demonstrate the eyeball reflection. Even when it's not the big point of the video, useful visual presentation of ideas is still super helpful
Getting out of one's comfort zone is important to growth, but I think it's also important to remember to kick back and just enjoy the process at the level you're at, wherever that is at the moment. Growth is great, and something we all strive for, but it's so important to remember to just relax and feed our passion a bit without putting additional pressure on ourselves. Would love to see more of these as you walk through your process without trying to blow our minds *every* time. Cheers from a newbie inspired by your work!
You really captured what we all were looking for, Scott. Lately so many painting channels went for 'BIGGEST MODEL IN WARHAMMER?!?!!!1' or any other iteration of 'GOD PAINTING IN 10S!' A reminder that, hey, it's a hobby about painting anything for the enjoyment of the process and the finished piece is a nice thing.
Hurray normal painting videos! Hurray kickstarter! Hurray Scott!! Also, I love the overlay paint names. A weird suggestion as I am on phone and they are relatively tiny but use the color as the background of the bubbles and then the text in a high visibility contrast. My 2 cents. Awesome video my dude.
I feel the theme of this video deeply. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel. I’m ok with you just making a video of you painting a mini and telling us about your experience painting it! Also hey another bust! Love it
A return to form. Great job. Skin tone is superb. Blending is top notch. Overall impressive. This is you firing on all cylinders and driving in the lane you have not only paved but have mastered driving on. You should take pride in this. It is an inspiration to painters like me. No dead/poisoned weird “artistic choices” abstract skin tones this time.
It is so very nice to see a mini painting video that wasn’t a tutorial, sometimes I just like chillin and putting a Miniac video in the background while I paint.
All the minipainting channels don't just paint cool minis anymore, it's all about trying to come up with wacky video ideas, this is nice, I think we all would love to see you guys just painting cool models that spark joy.
When I drill holes for mounting or pinning, I drill the hole bigger than the thing going into it. This gives me some wiggle room if I don't get the hole in the right place. I fill the gap with epoxy putty or CA glue. This also lets me square up the figure on the plinth if necessary, and I can clean it up when I paint the plinth.
The vibe I generally get from YT hobby channels that paint 40k stuff, is it’s a grind. Takes ages to prep a bunch of models, prime, paint, weather, base it, then do it again with the next bunch of models in a conveyer belt style fashion. Didn’t get that from this one. You can tell you actually had fun and enjoyed it. Also, really refreshing to watch someone paint something that’s not grim dark with oil paints too! 😆
I hope you enjoy making this style of video, because I want to see more of it. Not necessarily from a tutorial standpoint, but more for a just relaxing easy-to-watch experience. Bob Ross type of vibe.
not gonna lie, this is quite nice to watch. It's really nice seeing people just paint with some nice editing, a couple of jokes, and some good tips just to show how to paint. I like this
You know who else just paints? Dr. Faust. You know who has been making painting videos forever while other mini painting channels burnout? Dr. Faust. Just paint if you want to paint. You'll get views. It don't need to be clickbait every video.
More busts! Damn man, watching you work is an absolute joy. I really enjoy just watching artists do their thing without some kind of lesson or message being conveyed. Perfect chill thing to watch before work, thank you.
This video was pure cinematic beauty. I especially enjoyed the split screens, the paint ratio pop ups, the beautifully painted miniature and the dulcet tone of your voice.
Weirdly enough, this video is quite refreshing from heavily montaged videos with a lot of effects. Just a nice bust, beeing treated rightfully by a good painter. Thanks Scott !
just watching you paint is my favourite content to be honest. I love your other stuff don't get me wrong but what motivates me most to paint myself is seeing others way better at painting paint. It just makes me want to get better.
I love your painting vids on so many levels, for so many reasons. Not the least of which is the level of instruction and the relaxing Bob Ross aspect. "Happy little blood drops... dripping down...".
Hope this video does just as well as your others. Really enjoy this sort of thing. You'd be surprised how informative it still is just to see your process start to finish
Please do more of these videos man. I like your newer stuff but this takes it back to what the channel is about for me. You can see the enjoyment in what you are doing. Great job buddy
this is probably the first mini painting video in a while that I'll come back to - leaving feeling inspired to get a palette cleanser display model of my own and just go for it. Thanks for this return to no-hooks painting content!
Very nice work, Scott. The 'kick-back and enjoy' vibe really shows in that tentacle, an inspired piece of painting. A bit like watching a snooker player when the pressure is off. "...And by the way Capn' the pressure cooker canna handle it - she's gonna blow!"
Maybe there are no ground breaking new skill moments in this video, but it is really cool to see you putting so many techniques you have learnt over the years to amazing use.
Awesome video mate.. I honestly don’t feel like you need an “Angle” when making a video.. it was good to just watch/listen along to what someone else was doing and their thought processes whilst I was hobbying myself. Definitely picked up a few tricks that I’ll implement in my own models and despite the model subject being something I personally don’t have any draw towards, I still found the video thoroughly engaging. Glad to see you’re back to the weekly vids mate 👌🏼
I see that Hare of the Moon box and I'm BEGGING you to do another one of these chill painting videos but with that mini!! It's one of the most simplistically gorgeous miniatures I've seen in forever
Hey Scott, really enjoyed the video. We need more 'just painting' vids, I learnt stuff just watching you using familiar techniques in different contexts. You come up with some really good reflections which are obvious only when someone points them out (like the details which stop you finishing thing... experienced it so many times but never thought about it beforehand) so thank you. Would have liked to have seen a (possibly sped up) bit where you did that stubble, the cut went from 'not sure if this is going to work Scott' to 'oh wow that looks amazing!' and I'd like to have seen more of the in-between if you do it again on another? It was really obvious you were really enjoying hobbying as well as content creating which was great to see too. Amazing paint job on the bust, always a pleasure to watch paint.
I love this guy. I think the hat is less of like light or color, but it's more like a powder in his hat that reflects his chef career, like flour or sugar. Even before he was painted I could instantly imagine what this guy was like, and that speaks volumes to creating a miniature. I like the blood, too. Personally I would've gone without the collar if I designed this guy, but the addition of blood there looks great, like this guy has somehow bled before, but it's the only time ANYONE will ever see him bleed. You did a great job not making the sci-fi inspiration too obvious, as well. When I clicked on the video, I didn't expect it to be one and now that I'm at the end, I can still hold that thought in my head that he would fit within like the 1800's if you just changed that goo from green to red. He's like a background character you can imagine in a pre-20th century fantasy novel.
Oh my lawd the way you showed the paints and ratios on the palette was just *cheffs kiss*. I would watch a whole series of these for sure - all the little details and shots are so relaxing. It's like you managed to distill the enjoyment (and some of the frustrations) of painting a mini into one, neat little vid. Cheers!
I like how you said this isn't something massive or lifechanging, and I've got several tips on almost every material you painted. I guess different levels of skill and all that.
I loved just watching you paint a nice model and talk about it. Speed paints are popular and all, but I love just watching you narrate your process. It's beautiful, calming and deeply inspiring
This "just painting" video is excellent. I learn so much from you talking through your process, and this experimenting with a non-GW mini is fun. Thanks for this.
Pretty new to miniatures, and this is one of my favorite vids yet. I can honestly say I learned as much or more from this as any of the "sick painting trick hobbyists don't want you to know" videos.
This is fucking brilliant. And what really struck me was how good you are. I binge watch your old videos and seeing new paint jobs brings home how much you've improved, it's astonishing and inspiring.
Found this mini whilst walking around at the world model expo in the Netherlands last weekend. So I wanted to buy this, and mentioned to the seller that I'd seen you paint it on YT; so he inquired if I'd also seen the doctor vid-the mini was right next to the chef. I hadn't, but het offered me both mini's at a discount that I just could not refuse! And the price was already lower than the website one. So I hope this demonstrates to the mini makers that sponsoring works. And thank you for getting me a good deal without even lifting a finger. ;)
These are the videos I love to watch you put out. I have missed this content from you TBH. I have learned a great deal from watching your painting vids. Love this one! Keep it up!
Great video, awesome paint job and great story telling. This video also highlights what Big Deno said, that you are really a great painter, but that your old youtube schedule prevented you from showing it.
I love to watch the adds on your videos, I'm glad that you support smaller and other companies than Raid Shadowlegends lol, It's refreshing to see and smooth to watch
Really needed this video! Been painting commissions for a couple of years now and finally have some respite. Not painting for yourself for so long takes its toll and also takes away the love you once felt for your hobby in regards to it feeling more like a chore. I can't wait to try out some colour schemes and paint minis that have patiently waited for some attention. Thanks Scott this was very refreshing to see, should definitely do more of these videos. The end result looks great!
make it a series. "Just painting a mini". These Bob Ross calm walkthroughs of the process are actually interesting and can even help some people that are struggling with similar problems in their own projects.
That is great idea!
Yes!
Absolutely agree!
YES! please thank you
I support this plan
Following all the big minipainting youtubers, I've noticed lately a distinct lack of videos of painters just painting! Thank you.
Exactly.. you learn nothing.
Also feeling this. And enjoyed this more than most videos lately. Would love to see more this style!
Completely agree. I really enjoyed this video. Gave me some great ideas and the final result was brilliant. And I just enjoyed watching the process. 👍
There's too many people trying to become a youtube personality under the guise of "chasing the algorithm" in the niche at the moment. I'm glad to see Scott take a small break from teh rat race and just paint something.
@@DanielJohnson120 perfectly stated. YT is getting so annoying to watch due to that fact. This was a nice change of pace.
Absolutely love this! I watch because I love painting and want to see people enjoy themselves painting, not because I want to "learn to paint like a GOD in under 11 MINUTES!!!" More content like this would make me a happy viewer!
Gotta say I already love the idea of just a regular old mini painting video
intro :
basically , every youtuber : LOOK AT ME.
Miniac : look at my dirty pikachu cup
When you got to the sponsor segment, I was expecting to have to skip some scripted mobile game ad. But I stayed all the way through it because (just like the video at large) you just talked to us about something cool you've been working with lately, and showed us some incredible stuff in an interesting but chill way.

A no fuss review of the results various techniques can give, essentially.
Honestly, just watching you paint for the sake of painting, is still a valueable way for me to learn
It's kinda fun you made that observations of busts often being just character studies, without too much unnecessary klimbim. It's exactly why I love painting (most of) them. And also why sculpting them is often more fun than minis.
Miniac this type of videos are so relaxing and they've helped me going through so much stress... Thank you from Spain
Yes. I wouldn't mind videos of him painting in silence, just painting, maybe a comment here and there, but focus on just the painting.
Bob Ross of minis style videos would be fantastic
Bob Ross had a crazy amount of episodes. He just painted, no gimmicks, no clickbait, just painting and being himself. Everyone loves Bob Ross for that very reason.

As an avid sea of thieves enjoyer, I love the giant tentacle the chef has. Looks like he's gonna cook up some kraken
Honestly I think the simplicity of this video idea and project made it more enjoyable than your recent average. Hooked me from start to end, just getting to watch you take a really cool sculpt, and give it a nice, character filled paint job.

Love those kinds of "explaining my tought process while painting" videos! Very nice work on that bust.
More of this! Not every video needs to be something gimmicky (like so many big creators I’m seeing lately), there’s a real therapeutic aspect to just watching a master at his craft paint something.

Thanks for making a simple, beautiful video without all the bells and whistles.
I wish there were more "incredibly normal videos" on UA-cam. Thanks Scott!
I'd happily watch more of these! A series of - this is how i painted this model - is perfect for me. No need for gimmicks.
Hurray normal painting videos! Hurray kickstarter! Hurray Scott!! Also, I love the overlay paint names. You had me hypnotized, this video is exactly what I wanted. The sculpt is exciting, your painting made it shine. All in all, a great video.
Just painting, this kind of video is nice and not commonplace enough in this community. Bravo, Scott!
The guts it takes to pull out the airbrush and spray near that completed face! Beautiful work on a very cool miniature.
When I drill holes for mounting or pinning, I drill the hole bigger than the thing going into it. This gives me some wiggle room if I don't get the hole in the right place. Man, with each vid the level of editing is getting Crisposaurus Rex
new favorite term
Seriously some of the best videos I have seen, not just painting videos. Thank you so much for insight and perspective it's really refreshing.
This video was pure cinematic beauty. I especially enjoyed the split screens, the paint ratio pop ups, the beautifully painted miniature and the dulcet tone of your voice.
More normal mini painting videos please, this is great
Weirdly enough, this video is quite refreshing from heavily montaged videos with a lot of effects. Just a nice bust, beeing treated rightfully by a good painter. Thanks Scott !
Oooh those color/ratio overlays look so crisp! This was a really nice, normal mini painting video!
As a chef who works a lot and use painting as a hobby, this video made me feel good. Very nice work mr Miniac.
Scott -One of your best gigs thus far (IMO)! Great vision and even better execution.
This may be my favourite video you’ve made. More painting just to paint please and thank you
No profound angle required. Man I love watching you paint. It’s why I subbed in the beginning. Thanks for this, Scott
just watching you paint is my favourite content to be honest. I love your other stuff don't get me wrong but what motivates me most to paint myself is seeing others way better at painting paint. It just makes me want to get better.

Very nice work, Scott. The 'kick-back and enjoy' vibe really shows in that tentacle, an inspired piece of painting. A bit like watching a snooker player when the pressure is off.

Glad to see you’re back to the weekly vids mate 👌🏼
I wouldn’t mind getting to see more of Scott just painting for the sake of painting.
Incredible paint job Scott. It's nice to have a video where we can see all your skills on display rather than focusing on a specific area
Love a simple straightforward video on painting a miniature.
I see that Hare of the Moon box and I'm BEGGING you to do another one of these chill painting videos but with that mini!! It's one of the most simplistically gorgeous miniatures I've seen in forever
1:41 Those little paint labels were great touch!
"If it's nae Scottish, it's crap!" But seriously, as said by others, a 'simple' video that is 'just' painting is refreshing
Skin and eyes look especially good, love the tentacle pattern. Nice work!
Lovely model, calming audio, demonstrated mastery. Great video fam.
I did not expect to come home to a Miniac video, but I needed it. Thanks, Scott.
Love this style. Show us cool sculpts with excellent paintjobs
It was really obvious you were really enjoying hobbying as well as content creating which was great to see too. Amazing paint job on the bust, always a pleasure to watch paint.
appreciate the feedback!
Very cool mini! Great work! Appreciate the hobby-focused approach sans gimmick.
loving the split screen multicamera shots, great work :)
Love the video of just simply painting. Very pleased that you quickly showed the names of the paints on the pallete how they are mixed. Keep that!
I love this guy. I think the hat is less of like light or color, but it's more like a powder in his hat that reflects his chef career, like flour or sugar. At 4:03 you got me. With such non chalance... such a smooth transition
That was a great watch. And an incredibly legit paintjob. Your skin tones are perfect.
This video was awesome! Watching you just paint is incredibly pleasing.
Yeah, I'd love more content like this. Getting rather tired of the "magical painting method" videos that all end up just doing enamels or something.
We can still learn a lot from just watching you work and have you walk us through your steps and processes.
That was refreshing and very "sponge-worthy" as well! 🤘🤘😀
I love this kind of video. It's neat just to see a painters work flow.
This is probably my favorite paint job of the year. It really makes me want that model. Good shit Scott
The beauty of the hobby is sharing the experience and seeing peoples muse in action. Love it man *chef's kiss*.
Apart from the videos where you paint vampires, this is one of my most favourite videos you've done. It just has such a good vibe.
Pretty new to miniatures, and this is one of my favorite vids yet. I can honestly say I learned as much or more from this as any of the "sick painting trick hobbyists don't want you to know" videos.

I'm glad you found Mindwork Games and that you also got a sweet discount!
These are the videos I love to watch you put out. I have missed this content from you TBH. I have learned a great deal from watching your painting vids. Love this one! Keep it up!
Love this type of a video, exceptionally executed!
Loved the normal painting video, nice to see standard painting techniques done at a high level. The chef bust is brilliant too! Thank you.
Great video, awesome paint job and great story telling. This video also highlights what Big Deno said, that you are really a great painter, but that your old youtube schedule prevented you from showing it.
big ol' deno said that? man is an absolute legend
@@Miniac yep during one of his live streams a while back when referring to why he does streaming vs UA-cam
Fantastic video Scott. Great blend of information and just the zen of watching you put paint on plastic.
Great work Scott, love mind work, waiting on my Kickstarter arriving. The Chef looks ace.
I'd love more of these, also just shows your thought process and methods naturally
Yes! More of this! I was actually worried there would be some surprise gimmick, but the beautiful bust in the thumbnail pulled me in :)
Scott you could go a year of videos just like this and youd be fine- I wouldnt think too hard about video ideas, we just like see you paint :)
