Waking up and seeing the minis you painted overnight in the daylight is such a treat. Love that you mentioned that. "Predictable and miserable and buffoonish" is the perfect summing up of the gamer rage too.

Great video, great thoughts, and some great results! Always great to see you spread the message of tolerance, painting, and taking care of our mental health!
The last days, I was really annoyed and depressed by UA-cam, because every video title told me that I suck and wanted to explain why. Watching this video gave me some boost of positive energy. Thank you for that.
That stuff's the worst. Hell, some of those videos may offer good advice and maybe the creators even have good intentions. But that way of advertising is so exploitative and predatory, they get by on upsetting people's sense of adequacy, and to have it jarred like that all the time is definitely not good for the brain. If people want to re-evaluate themselves, let them do it on their own time.
You, your kind and calming attitude and your general love and enthusiam of miniature painting is what got me into this hobby last summer. Now after a couple of months of assembling minis I'm finally starting to paint the first minis and I always keep coming back to your videos. Not only miniature painting has mental health benefits, watching your videos does too! Thank you so much. I absolutely love my new hobby :)

I appreciate this video. I recently went through a rough patch. My partner saw I was in a rut and encouraged me to host a D&D game for a campaign I'm running (the encouragement was telling me that they already reached out to the players and scheduled the game date lol). I started making maps and painting minis. Hosting the game was great this past weekend. I'm glad I have family and friends that support my hobby.
I’m just about to watch the video but the title of the video caught my attention straight away and just want to say I started painting to get out of my own head, I don’t play any of the war games or D&D, I just love to paint minis for the peace

@@GoobertownHobbies My neurologist actually put a note in my charts, instructing me to paint miniatures. I explained the hobby to her and she was thrilled by the improvements it had caused.
I have spent a long time in the hobby. Reading books, collecting minis, teaching people to play, etc etc. My favorite part is painting models and showing them off in games. I am quite proud of my work, as I have won quite a few awards. I can’t even begin to tell you how much time I have spent painting. It’s not just painting, it’s also researching different paints, techniques, learning how to use a brush, thin your paints, how to use an airbrush, trouble shooting an airbrush, how to base minis, how to use varnishes, how to use enamels, hell, even priming a mini takes some time and effort to learn, the list goes on and on. That being said, to me, this hobby, is something I take seriously, but also love doing. So much so that I also want everyone to enjoy the hobby for what it is; the lore, the minis, and most importantly, the appreciation for a well painted mini. To see some creations at my LGS for what ever head cannon they have is so inspiring, but also makes me incredibly happy to have a community that shares a common interest. Now, onto the more relevant topic: lore change. At what point is lore change a big deal? Clearly a subjective point. However, is this a genuine lore change, was it the intention of the writers and the keepers of Warhammer 40K to enrich the setting by adding female custodians? Will this perpetuate the grim dark setting and further immerse the environment? Will it add more people who share a common interest? I am not sure. Time will tell. However I can say one thing, the way this change was introduced is a bit peculiar. It seems forced and is a bit of a disservice to what has been established. I can think of a billion ways GW could have handled this to avoid the backlash, but they fell short of customer expectations. I see plenty of UA-camrs and twitters accounts partaking in this culture war. I think it’s silly to embrace either side. This is Warhammer. It is grim and dark. I hope it would stay this way, as this is the setting which captivated me at a young age, and helped me find a hobby that stuck with me for 25+ years. Those that advocate for female space marines or characters which need a sexual identity don’t really want warhammer, they want something else, and I wish them the best of luck finding it. Sexuality should not define you, it is a moot topic in Warhammer 40K. What defines a character is the choices they make and the impression they leave on the audience. Not who they fictionally sleep with. This could also translate to real life. I hope you can read this message not as an attack, but as a perspective from someone who has spent countless hours with family and friends, in a one of a kind setting.

Really good video, fantastic view of how humans need some sort of outlet creativity. Makes it better than just mindlessly consuming whatever gets shoved in your face.
@@MatchaMakesThings Well said. Having a creative outlet is so important for human beings. I tried this for the first time this week... and yeah, it's pretty cool! now we have to go shopping for nail clippers with different radius of curvature for our different base sizes!! :-)
I am so glad you mad this video, Brent. It really helped my brain, as this unending train of negativity has really worn me down, so much so that I have removed almost all social media from my life. It is this endless torrent of rage over NOTHING, and it is pushed at every opportunity because it makes people money. The ability to just enjoy things is gone, everything must be dissected to find the part that you can rage at, and if you can't find it then just make something up for the clicks. It is so exhausting, and it seems impossible to avoid because the "algorithm" is constantly forcing it at us. No matter how many of these ragetubers I tell youtube not to suggest, they find a way to suggest more of the same content from someone else. It's exhausting to see this in our hobby space, when I try to enjoy Star Wars, Star Trek, or anything. The world is already massively divided and the hate-sellers are filling their pockets in anyway that they can. It just makes me feel better to know that there are good people like you working against that tide of anger that is all over the internet. It really makes me want to start my own *crappy* youtube channel just to put out positivity, even if I have zero subs. It's more exhausting trying to avoid the anger than I think it would be to push back against it. But you are right, I have been working to disconnect from this as real life stuff has been incredibly heavy and stressful lately, maybe I just need to paint a miniature or two.
the ragebait channels really are depressing. It's tragic because it isn't a healthy way to live, either for viewers OR for the creators. Of all the things we could possibly do with this gift of life, adopting "I hate kathleen kennedy" as a personality is so, so sad. Painting minis will always be fun tho! :-)
Hey Brent, thank you for your calm and kind videos. Lately, I've been a bit frustrated that my mini's aren't coming out quite as I want, frustrated that my skill level isn't higher. But this was a great reminder to just enjoy the process, relax, be present, and just have fun. Which are all things that I adored about mini painting when I first got into it. It's easy to accidentally compare myself to others and feel like I need to create masterpieces, but just painting in and of itself is a great reward too. c: ❤
Listening to this while painting a room. 😊 Never a truer word spoken. Painting minis has been an important part of my mental health plan having grappled with PTSD for 20 years now. Works for me.
I am thankful that this version of you is alive and well on youtube. This hobby needs grounded, calm, smart, unapologetically positive Goobertown Brent.
Still have yet to see a single video of yours Brent that was just "OK", they all inspire me somehow. That said, this one really hit home. I've been in the miniature painting hobby on and off for over 40 years, and only been back into it about a year. A major reason I returned was to improve my mental health, and it has done wonders. Only about a month into this newest leg of my hobby journey did I find your channel, and I don't think there's any videos left you have posted, that I have not watched. And there's many I've watched multiple times. This is going to be one of them. Also, you owe me $60 for the Custodes I'll be buying this weekend at my local hobby store, because I REALLY need to paint some now! ❤ As always, Thanks Brent!
I just said to my wife, "He reminds me of Bob." For context, Bob was a guy I knew in school. Genuine, honest, down to earth bloke, always smiling and always friendly. I can't remember him saying a bad word to anyone, or anyone having anything bad to say about him. A true gentleman who never failed to lift my spirits. So yes Brent, you remind me of Bob.
You are totally right, I like to listen to your videos! You are always calm and you have a smooth and confortable voice to listen to, a good storyteller voice ;) Listen to your videos is already calming me down, thank you for that! And yes, painting miniatures is kind of mediative, and it already starts with thinking about how to build a model and what it should represent. That's a real good part of the hobby!
Easily one of the best channels on the UA-cams. From polymer chains to slides to the scientific process to therapy. This channel has everything including solid painting.
GOOBERTOWN HOBBIES POSTED, TIME FOR MY REGULAR DOSE OF JOY & CALM. You're one of the channels that got me into model painting, and therefore dabbling in wargaming. It's always exciting to see a new video, and to watch old ones
Awesome video, as usual ! The mental health talk resonated a lot with me, painting actually helps me a lot with relaxing and concentrating on something else ! Also, great and mature take on gatekeeping ! Your painting is awesome and those kitbashes absolutely rock
This is the most genuinely helpful life advice I have heard in a long time. Particularly the part about the original Star Wars trilogy being about Luke learning emotional maturity - I hadn’t thought of it that way before and it is so true
I love you Brent. You're so refreshingly chill and supportive. I definitely fall into the trap of watching too much political doom videos because I'm terrified of the GOP and desperate for hope. But I've been trying to stop watching those types of videos because I'm aware they are hurting my mental health. Your videos and this one especially are just so damn relaxing. I wish you streamed painting because throwing on a 4 hour video of you painting while I paint something myself sounds like therapy to me.
No doubt my voice will get lost in the torrent of well-deserved praise, but I felt the need to reach out and offer my genuine and heartfelt thanks for adding something meaningful to this space. Cheers, man. 😊
Thank you for this. I am just dipping my toe into the hobby, and the videos supporting the existence of female Custodes has been one of the reasons Im beginning to explore it
Great job on this whole video. Really really happy with the take that you took on mental health and around the toxicity that can happen even unintentionally in our hobbies. Really well done.
Gotta say I love that purring sound quality hobby air compressors make. Keta Minies does great work. Love seeing how many people have been using her heads on Custodes. The new Kickstarter adds even more variety.
@@GoobertownHobbies besides having to go out plowing I try to stay at home all winter as well. Summer I mow and race in the mud so the minis get stuffed in the closet until snow flies again
You're a treasure, good sir. Thank you for the lovely video, the great painting, and the calming source of meditation. Painting IS great for relaxing, isn't it? And we certainly need it. Thank you.
Thanks! IMO the worst / least cool model in my little collection here is the gold-and-red helmet on. I needed to get the models on the desk to explore them and figure out if they could actually look cool!
My only gripe is they did the bare minimum A retcon AND no new minis. Just a gaslighting, “oh they always existed” One way or the other. And I don’t mind a retcon, but like you said, give us new models!
thats why i bought a 3D printed. I printed and painted a full 3k points dwarf army to shut up the voices on my head, at least temporally. People cry about femstodes, buth they still ignore the posibility of alternate timelines, like Dornian heresy. or whathever alternative you made. And if somebody complains, WARP.
Thanks for the thoughtful words, Brent. Been down lately, and you encouraged me to pick up my brush for the first time in a few weeks, and it brought me up.
My dad has always emphasised the importance of watching the news and "keeping up to date with what's going on in the world". A lifetime of doing that will turn even the biggest optimist into a bitter old person. Nerd rage feels like something similar. It's unhealthy and will shorten your life. The message here is so, so important - if just one person listens and benefits from the advice in the video, it's had a huge impact. It needed to be said and you said it beautifully ❤️ Thanks 🙏
My friend you have a big solid point there, i do share your opinión but i have a problem with all of this. When a company like GW that is so greedy go moral with this and uses minorities or woman to say they are morally right and then they charge you 60 bucks for five plastic figures...., this....., painting IS relaxing i guess
Hobbying away is so necessary for my mental health. When my grandfather passed away about a month ago I found I was suddenly spending a lot more time painting. He helped cultivate my artistic side, always trying a new hobby every time I visited him. One time he had even taken up rune carving, and had a pile of stones with family history carved on them in futhark in his backyard 😂 Spending time painting after his passing has helped me work through my emotions about it, as well as feeling closer to him. He never really “got” Warhammer, but he was happy I was doing something physically creative. I’ve been trying to ride that wave and use this new painting routine to get an army project finished, and as I get closer it makes me much happier. Thank you for always being such a calm and relaxing part of my hobby experience. I’ve learned a lot of painting tricks from your videos, but I always appreciate your insights into deeper things. Looking forward to the next video!
As someone who has and continues to struggle a lot with mental health, thank you for being a good person and making such enjoyable videos. You are awesome.
After dealing with this UA-cam drama myself, this video is a blessing for my nerves. I always love the way you make UA-cam content, Brent. Amazing videos as always. I also love the two Custodians in white and purple armor-super cool!
Awesome vid as always Brent. I tell people all the time that painting is my moment of zen. Being present in the moment, controlling my breathing on the detailed bits. Whatever ghosts I'm fighting in my head go away, and I focus only on the painting.
Not really a fan of custodes (or marines for that matter) in general, but watching you paint these models kind of makes me want to try to do the same :)
Thanks dude. One, i enjoy your voice while watching. Others have called you Bob Ross, and that's a good comparison; you're soothing sounding, even when espousing your opinions. Second, you teach me so much about painting, while also not being so far advanced in technique or tools that i can't relate. Thank you.
Brent: Miniature painting is a relaxing hobby. Me, trying to glue together two pieces from an older metal kit that don't quite fit: &@#$ing piece of $%^& can't stay $#%@ together - adhere, damn you, adhere! But seriously, thank you for being such a voice for positivity in the hobby space, and for calling out the nerd rage baiters out there. We appreciate you!
@@GoobertownHobbies Good news: after doing a bit of filing, clipping, and filling in the gaps with green stuff, the two pieces now connected more or less cleanly.
Great video as always Mr. Goobs. I've definitely found painting to help alleviate the stresses of life and re-centre myself. Though it can sometimes be hard to get myself to the desk, especially after a bit of a hiatus, I'm always happy when I do even if it's just a quick 30-60 minute "session". As far as the Nerd Rage...I'm so tired of it. I cannot fathom how people how so much hate and animosity in them for other people just existing and wanting to enjoy the same hobbies that they do. It's great to see so many people I follow pushing back against it all. keep being you Brent!!
One thing I have picked up in recent years is the importance of doing projects for yourself. In an age where we have a tendency to want to share everything we make online, it's quite nice to do something solely for yourself once in a while. No expectations, just you, your paintbrush, and your models. Great video, Brent! I think the teal and gold scheme is my personal favorite! -Andy

Whenever I am in a rut or annoyed with painting a mini, I watch your channel. The sheer volume of chill vibes helps me unwind and let the paint flow.
let the paint flow! :-)
@@GoobertownHobbies no paint only pain.
I love this painting painting AND I appreciate your perspective. Thank you for speaking up for kindness and compassion!
Thanks for the encouragement! I always love your gentle voice and demeanor 😊
Your videos are great. I love your attitude. You are curious, creative and adaptable, all great traits. Keep on doing what you do!
❤ As always, Thanks Brent!
hahahaha, nooooo I'm not responsible for your purchases! Thanks for the kind words, I hope you have a great weekend! :-)
Your videos are always interesting, full of positive messages and there's always something to learn. I really enjoy your approach to the hobby!
So yes Brent, you remind me of Bob.
gotta be like bob :-)
Here I thought you first meant Bob Ross, and I thought "I can totally see that!"
@@Izzboticus Ahhh, in a way I did, for Bob Ross and Bob Davis could be beard brothers in chillness.
Thanks for the down-to-earth and healthy advice. It’s always good to have a reminder to be healthy in whatever way we can.
Brent, thanks for taking your best shot at cooling the rage. I hope everyone listens. Well done, sir.
Thank you for your positivity! Listening to the video while painting was really relaxing
Preach brother, there’s nothing like relaxing with a brush in one hand and a model in the other👍
Dude that green one is especially nice! Nice video I enjoyed this during my lunch break
They look so coooooool. I just love them and have nothing to add but an aura of agreement and friendly Appreciation
Great message mate. Always loved your content but gained some extra respect for you for this.
You are totally right, I like to listen to your videos! You are always calm and you have a smooth and confortable voice to listen to, a good storyteller voice ;)
Listen to your videos is already calming me down, thank you for that!
And yes, painting miniatures is kind of mediative, and it already starts with thinking about how to build a model and what it should represent. That's a real good part of the hobby!
have you tried paint bravely: the podcast to listen to? Its Brent and Casey from ebay miniature rescue talking everything miniatures
I'm glad that painting helps you too! This is a great hobby :-)
always nice to have a calming voice of reason in the hobby :)
you're so chill & calm, very pleasant to look at. Thank you
This is the most genuinely helpful life advice I have heard in a long time.
I wish you streamed painting because throwing on a 4 hour video of you painting while I paint something myself sounds like therapy to me.
we all gotta go get some more fresh air! I hope you have a great weekend! :-)
Do you watch/listen to paint bravely the podcast? It's Brent and Casey from eBay miniature rescue doing just that ;)
Bob Ross of warhammer indeed
No doubt my voice will get lost in the torrent of well-deserved praise, but I felt the need to reach out and offer my genuine and heartfelt thanks for adding something meaningful to this space.
Cheers, man. 😊
I see you and I appreciate you! :-)
Excellent take on the context of IPs, especially the whole point of LOTR.
When you live in a state where it's winter for half the year it is necessary to have a calming hobby. Great video and message in it Brent
oh yeah, I don't leave the house anywhere near enough, especially in the winter ;-) the minis help!
Thank you.
Honestly some of the best schemes I have seen for Custodes, actually makes me like them. Plus bundled with some great life advice!
Thanks! IMO the worst / least cool model in my little collection here is the gold-and-red helmet on. I needed to get the models on the desk to explore them and figure out if they could actually look cool!
My only gripe is they did the bare minimum
A retcon AND no new minis.
Just a gaslighting, “oh they always existed”
One way or the other. And I don’t mind a retcon, but like you said, give us new models!
These companies do these things to quite literally fill a checklist. They don't care about representation, they're looking for Investments.
thats why i bought a 3D printed. I printed and painted a full 3k points dwarf army to shut up the voices on my head, at least temporally.
People cry about femstodes, buth they still ignore the posibility of alternate timelines, like Dornian heresy. or whathever alternative you made. And if somebody complains, WARP.
painting is healthy, I'm glad it helps! Dwarfs rule.
When in doubt, chaos. 😂
Thanks for the thoughtful words, Brent. Been down lately, and you encouraged me to pick up my brush for the first time in a few weeks, and it brought me up.
Things are looking up! Have fun painting :-)
I just absolutely *love* this channel. Thank you for this video.
hey thanks for hanging out, hope you're having a good day! :-)
Hobbying away is so necessary for my mental health. When my grandfather passed away about a month ago I found I was suddenly spending a lot more time painting. He helped cultivate my artistic side, always trying a new hobby every time I visited him. One time he had even taken up rune carving, and had a pile of stones with family history carved on them in futhark in his backyard 😂
Spending time painting after his passing has helped me work through my emotions about it, as well as feeling closer to him.
"If you burst a blood vessel, and have to see St. Peter for THIS... well... he's gonna laugh at you"
Incredible.
As someone who has and continues to struggle a lot with mental health, thank you for being a good person and making such enjoyable videos. You are awesome.
keep goin, my turtle friend, keep goin!!! :-)
After dealing with this UA-cam drama myself, this video is a blessing for my nerves. I always love the way you make UA-cam content, Brent. Amazing videos as always. I also love the two Custodians in white and purple armor-super cool!
hey TY cory! great vid last week.
Thank you for your videos, and for the positive messages behind them
Amazing video Brent! Thank you for taking the time to do these.
Thanks dude. One, i enjoy your voice while watching. Others have called you Bob Ross, and that's a good comparison; you're soothing sounding, even when espousing your opinions. Second, you teach me so much about painting, while also not being so far advanced in technique or tools that i can't relate. Thank you.
hey thanks for hangin out! :-)
Videos like this are why I love your channel so much.
Thanks Brent, relaxing and informative as usual!
I believe in you! wash the glue off your hands and try again :-)
@@GoobertownHobbies Good news: after doing a bit of filing, clipping, and filling in the gaps with green stuff, the two pieces now connected more or less cleanly.
Your voice is meditative tbh ❤️
I appreciate you!! :-)
Great video dude! Good advice and the models turned out great! 🤘🤘🖤
Good Sir! You have said it all. Calmness, Relax, enjoy the hobby in the personal way each of us do.
Excellent video with some completely on point messaging. Thank you.
Great video with great advice and topping it all off with a whole range of awesomely painted custodes!
Thank you!
"Dora the Explorer with a face tattoo" sounds like now-obvious AI image generator prompt....
oh no, what have we set in motion!!! we're living in a nightmare!!! :-)
Lol!
