I accidentally got some on my black trim by using turtle wax paste(old school stuff) and I thought I removed it with a ceramic detail spray but it eventually comes back after you wash the car a couple times. A regular pink eraser though seems to have worked. Lightly use a regular eraser on the white areas.
It's very difficult to remove wax and polish is because it's designed to be this way. The sole purpose of these chemicals is to stay on as long as possible. So using a water-based cleaner isn't going to work. In chemistry, you learn that like dissolves like. You need to find a nonpolar chemical that will dissolve the wax and polish. However, if you use a chemical that's too similar to the plastic (which is nonpolar), you'll end up dissolving the plastic too. I found an eraser works really well.
I know this is a older video, but Dawn dish soap (i like the power wash) & a tooth brush or whatever brush you want to use to scrub it off without taking tour polish with it ..
Hi mate, sorry to hear that. You should speak to the detailer who did the job for you and ask them to fix it. The correct method is to mask up the plastic trims.
@@iglcoatingsauI find that masking the trim is much less efficient than just applying a greasy non evaporating conditionner like 303 protectant to the trim before polishing. Im checking this video because for the first time I taped all the trim on a rav4 and it took forever. Still had tons of spots (I only did first 2-3 inches my mistake) of hazing polish impossible to remove from old dry trim. Only reason I didnt 303 this time was because I was applying a ceramic coating later and didnt want to degrease too much. Trust me in this case prevention beats anything. Coat your trims BEFORE polish 😂 What I found to work so far in order: 3-IPA 2-Klasse AIO (probably the silicon base.) 1- Magic eraser with IPA, seems to smudge it around tho need to wipe with water and microfibre alot. All these need a lot of scrubbing. Im about to try the pencil eraser and if that doesnt work to remove the embedded caked in polish, im pulling out the heat gun and my dual orb. with a microfibre cut pad. 😂
First video I could find on this exact title issue. I did apply a VRP to my own but of course that will surely not fix it like this. I’m in the USA so I’m thinking I may need to use some Goo-Gone based on how that glitz worked. Thanks for making this video!
I was wondering about that, I was hoping he would say in vid if he was using ammonia or non ammonia formula. It matters sometimes, like window tint installing don't use any glass cleaner with ammonia on glass before install.
You can get a whole box of semi clear erasers for $10 that work twice as fast leaves no residue and will last you for a long log time at the cost of .80 cents per eraser. It takes all that crap off in seconds and wipes right off
Nice video, great tips. I have heard from another well known detailer that he uses the magic eraser, I think I would try a higher alkaline apc or an orange degreaser and wipe it and then will move to the magic eraser. Thanks!
Those magic erasers can sure clean a lot of things great, but I would worry about the abrasive nature of them. They are sort of like using 1000 to 1500 sand paper? guessing, but that's kind of why they work. I think you could actually put fine scratch or scuff marks in some plastics with that, test area.
@@iglcoatingsau clay bar or 91% alcohol will remove it, if the plastic trim gets faded just use Rustoleum plastic spray. It is made for patio furniture but it adheres to the plastic and stays looking OEM black. I did it after using at least 4 products that claim to restore trim but failed or washed away. The Rustoleum been on a year now and no fade , no streaks or anything, looks like new.
I got polish on all the black trim on my Toyota FJ. Sadly, instructions (which I read after the fact 🤦🏻♀️) warned not to get it on the black trim. I have yet to find time to remove it. I am thinking calling the mfr of the polish may be helpful for advice.
Goo gone. Pretty much the same thing. Just don't use goo gone on decals, or any 3M stickers. Otherwise It works great on trim work like you see in the video. I used goo gone for the bugs on my plastic grill on my f150
goes in cycles, manufacturers go gloss colour coded then back to rough plastic textured plastic. I think prevention is better than cure. always mask up when polishing or waxing
Just like most things on UA-cam, this shit doesn't work! Tried both the glass cleaner and the glitz stuff from Bunnings and nothing. I don't think it's wax or polish on that Porsche. Staged.
Guess I am going to have to stand in the street with an eraser and rub my car out 😅 Update. So the eraser works on the hard plastic. But not on the rubberised window trim. Screen cleaner didn't work on either.

Done that many times over the years. Learnt my lesson though. Masking tape is my friend.
Any detailer who says they have never done this by accident is a liar!
I did it on my own car lol 😂

Thank you, I have just had some expensive... but apparently ill experienced detailers literally do the same thing to every plastic panel on my hilux.

Thank you for the kind words and feedback
On my 2022 maverick it has wax on my black trim I used Mr clean magic eraser. It took it off very quickly
That is a great suggestion that I must try
I found window cleaner works good also. I think it's the ammonia used in window cleaner is why it works well
Automotive window cleaner should not have ammonia in it!
That’s why you shouldn’t use windex on your car…. 🫤
@@josephdignam123 I like stoner brand. No ammonia.

Ive used apc from Meguiars and it works the same.

Does anybody know if the Glitz Goo and Stain Remover is the same as Goo Gone (sold here in the United States)?
Nope it's different..i have tried it before and making it worse

Buying some Glitz!

@@Nathan-wf1pr exactly there are lots of ways to do things but the best way is the safest way and the most efficient not risking damage
Just use spray wax and you dont have to worry. Either that or ceramic coat it and you wont have to fool around with pastes.
In this case it wouldnt work because there is a physical build up of wax on the trim that will reject the coating. Its not a case of faded trim

Good old #2 eraser yellow or white
Another trick is to use an eraser for a pencil. That works. Great.
Where can you purchase that trim restorer from?
It is called solution finish. I think different countries have different suppliers but it is made in USA

Question...
Can you roll a floor jack on those tiles in your garage?
If so, what brand are the tiles and do you like them?
Thanks 👍
Thank you and yes absolutely can roll dolleys and floor jacks etc..

What brand are they?
Looks like Racedeck.
Window cleaner works good because of the alcohol content
I live in the States. We don't have glitz, can you tell me more about its ingredients and what American product is similar?
The product is citrus based, hope that helps

It’s all about the dwell time with the chemical that’s affective
true but always a worry about the chemical staining the plastic itself
Mineral oil? I'm going to try that soon.
My husband wax my car , the wax all over the rubbers for a month. Is this still can work?
Yes should fix it
LOL blame it on the husband. Did it work?
Great Video mate, thanks !!
Glad you liked it!
thanks mate!
You're welcome!
Ever compared solution finish to bowdens Mr black?
We havent used Mr Black but happy to give it a try when the opportunity arises
They need to invent better plastic because they know people are gonna wax their cars and get that stuff on the trim. And it it's a bitch getting it off

Water with Dawn dish soap and a bug sponge, gone.
good advice to try next time!
Just use a melamine sponge & water! simples!!
It's working but it is not working
sounds like the story of my life
Did this to my husband's Jeep when waxing it... Fml
very common mistake
For wax: Kaboom cleaner and a toothbrush.

Solution finish is made in USA. Give IGL Gluoff a try that should also be available in USA.
How hard is to tape hey
Unfortunately this is something we see often
way to go...only in Australia
So the finishing product you finished off with.. you don't even bother showing us it or the bottle or the label, or anything, we do know its black!

A white eraser ! Works well .
Why dont u try eraser? It much more easier.
I have heard of pencil eraser, yet to come across this issue again to try it!

A bad detailer can unfortunately do that
8 and a half minutes??? just use dawn dish soap lightly with a toothbrush
