If you're a hardcore DIYer and you're driveway polishing outside (or you're a mobile detailer), you can use the rinseless to wipe down the panel just before you buff it to remove any dust, and it will help cool the panel on sunny days if you keep the bucket out of the sun.

If you watch our videos , you will learn how to polish a black car. Of course we showcase our products, but the techniques can be used with other brands as well
The Gold Standard Polishing System will both correct and enhance. A damp pad has several advantages. -Lower temperatures increases cut and gloss. -no areas of dry buffing, meaning less chance of swirls or micro marring. -longer pad life -pad conforms better to the surface -more efficient correction.
For the rinseless wipe after working the polish, instead of a dampened towel, is it as effective to maybe spray a rinseless solution where you were just polishing and spray the towel then wipe? I hesitate to ask if you CAN because of course you CAN, just curious if it would work as well. Love the channel! You guys rock!
You can do it but it won’t work as well (it will actually be more work with the spray method). Best case scenario is low nap towel, damp, followed by a dry towel 👍

It looks better, but under direct light there's tons of scratches and swirls.. Idk how to fix it.. Should I wet sand it first.. With maybe 3k sand paper, then do compound and polish? You don’t always want to remove every scratch and swirl. Remember you are not removing scratches, you are removing clear coat to the depth of the scratch.
@@diydetailofficial thank you! Though there are still a lot of scratches, so maybe I should compound for longer? I guess I really want to achieve that mirror shine, but I am not sure how to get there
Hi Yvan. Within the professional detailing industry as a whole, what has happened that you did not expect to occur, and what has happened that you did expect to occur? Would love to hear your insight on this.
It would have been nice to see the paint prior to polish. Then the after polish. We don't know how good the polish and pad is without a before and after.
We actually recorded footage but it was so blown out (super bright) and had us (not paint) in auto focus that it was unusable. We’re working on a video right now that we can use close up footage to demonstrate the difference in a 50/50!
I think i love the part where he said you dont have to prep the pad, prime whatever then takes the pad and puts it in water witch is exactly what you would do when using a normal polish! Lol
What we are using in this video isn’t a wax, it’s an abrasive polish. One spray covers a 2’ by 2’ area. The pad should be cleaned after every section. Never add Clean polish to a dirty pad.
Does your Gold Standard perform similarly to Hyper Polish? Would love to pick up a bottle of yours, but I have almost a whole full bottle of HP. I'll have to wait till that's gone first.
Buffer trails( with a rotary) can be caused by a few things. Too much pressure, dry or loaded( dirty pad), a flat faced foam pad, high speed, and angled pad.
How do you do smaller areas if you only have one machine? Like the area of the rear bumper of a car that sticks out a few inches from bottom of trunk lid?
@@diydetailofficial thank you! As a hobbyist wasnt sure if i should be getting a 3” polisher as well. Ill try with 5.5” pad first! Car is just in need of a touch up after 3 years of correction plus coating and want a refresh so if anything maybe i will try the small areas by hand. Thanks!
@diydetailofficial Sounds awesome. I know I've been quite the bother in your comments section. Your replies are extremely appreciated, and frankly unbelievable. Never thought I'd have so much useful information from a company in a comments section. As soon as I can afford it, I'll be placing an order. Thank you.
Hey Guys, , I have a 2018 Black Acura ILX and I had the hood and bumper repainted by Caliber Collision at the same time. When I do a rinseless wash I’m getting marring from my Kirkland 300 count microfiber when I dry the hood but I don’t on the bumper. Did they do something different
@@diydetailofficial thank you for responding. I did a search of your channel typing "white paint". Only 4 videos showed up in the que and they were quick vids, under a minute, basically quick tips on ceramic coating. Not really the white paint equivalent to this video. What I'm specifically looking for is polishing white paint and how to get the best shine/gloss out if it. So sticking with the theme and title of this video. Thanks.
no, the Gold Standard Polishing System is just that -- a system. However, do what you're going to do and perhaps it will work for you:) If not, you know the system we teach will work
Everywhere I read tells me not to polish with an orbital sander as you can’t adjust the speed low enough, even at the lowest setting, and the orbital diameter is too small. With all your experience will a palm sander do just as good of job polishing using the same method and without adding risk to the paint? Using the DIY polish and pad of course….
It's not a method pros use, but it's presented here as a very acceptable option to SHINE the paint. To get gloss. We're not going after deep scratches, think instead about "shiny scratches." From 5 to 10 feet away the car will pop. Yvan teaches this method because the palm sander is so common. We want this to be easy and accessible -- learnable -- to anybody:)
I'm reminded of a video from Scott HD where he tried one of those very cheap orbital sanders, just for giggles - his reaction was priceless: "Holy crap it works!" 😃
Y’all mentioned keeping the heat down. Well of course. But then you mentioned swelling the paint from heat. Got it. But then you mentioned releasing solvents!!! So this rather cryptically placed hint tells us that the paint you are referring to has been freshly painted. As in, within the last few days. Of course SOME solvents are still escaping even a day or so later, but are we talking about polishing a black car, or polishing a freshly painted car? You then just happen to mention some partial respray, indicating is has been painted recently. But HOW recently. If the topic was polishing a black car, as per the title, then when you mentioned escaping solvents, anyone who knows car paint would be wondering why solvents were still being released from what we should be able to assume is a fully cured car. And for those of us who know nothing about car paint, we are wondering why polishing releases solvents. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but it would seem that if polishing could release solvents AT ALL, then the paint wasn’t cured enough to be polishing at all, unless you are highly skilled and are trying to remove an imperfections before it gets any harder, which is quite a dicey gamble to attempt. I’ve rubbed out runs that were tacky, and I’ve also polished out what was left from a mosquito getting stuck in barely cured paint. Making attempts at that could lead to a full repaint. I’ve been both places. Cocksure by removing a paint sag with heat. a polisher, and a plastic spreader, and defeated by pushing to hard, where another hour could have saved the job. I once had to remove the entirety of the factory paint from the hood of an ML320, Merc code 040 Black, because something kept reacting while painting, and I never did find out the cause. Blushing, checking, and solvent pop on the first spray. I stripped that hood at least ten times. It seemed that those sanding scratches would NEVER get filled. 2K Epoxy
The solvents we are referring too comes from the polish. Even water based polishes contain solvents. If you create heat when polishing the solvents in the polish can be forced into the clearcoat, and trapped temporarily.
It is offen said that you should not let a polishing maschine spin freely without load because this would cause damage. Do you think this is nonsense because you always do that?
This is Yvan. I worked in R&D with Porter Cable, and it is not an issue. Bearings are designed for axial load( that’s exactly what happens when free spinning) they are not designed for thrust loads( what you do when you apply pressure to your polisher).
Should’ve took it out in the sun to really see the results cause that’s where it’s really gonna show if the swirls really came off or not on a black car Black cars a pain to buff 😡

When is the decision made to use a Foam pad vs Microfiber for Polishing?
We never use microfiber pad because is create to much heat… the foam keeps the surface more cool
So how do I fix the buffer tails after I did it wrong?
Polish again
@ at a lower speed?
The lowest speed your machine will go.
I think i love the part where he said you dont have to prep the pad, prime whatever then takes the pad and puts it in water witch is exactly what you would do when using a normal polish! Lol
No priming by spreading additional polish on the pad.
Interesting,, but how much area does a squirt of spray wax get you? Don't you need to keep reapplying the pad.
It has more cut and unlike HP, it actually becomes easier to wipe off the longer you work it 👍
I polished myself trying to learn and have slight buffer trails on the black paint. Any pointers?
Buffer trails( with a rotary) can be caused by a few things. Too much pressure, dry or loaded( dirty pad), a flat faced foam pad, high speed, and angled pad.
Really like the chipmunk music. Cute.
Thank you
How do i avoid pig tails…. Even tho keeping pad flat and DA speed around 4/5 and doing 5/6 passes
Lower your speed
@@diydetailofficial okay so slower passes will not create buffing trails or pig tails? Perfect 🙏🏼
How do you do smaller areas if you only have one machine? Like the area of the rear bumper of a car that sticks out a few inches from bottom of trunk lid?
I use a 6 inch pad
@@diydetailofficial do you basically try to keep one edge off the pad flat?
Yes
@@diydetailofficial thank you! As a hobbyist wasnt sure if i should be getting a 3” polisher as well. Ill try with 5.5” pad first! Car is just in need of a touch up after 3 years of correction plus coating and want a refresh so if anything maybe i will try the small areas by hand. Thanks!
I’m using a griots G9 DA… what’s the difference w a rotary? I need to research… I’m scared to ruin my car paint… 😭😭😭
A rotary only has one action, rotation, a DA is dual action, rotation and oscillation
How far will one spray go once you start polishing?
A normal section pass
Man, that car was so shinny to begin with. Now I need new retinas!
Sorry for the inconvenience
@@diydetailofficial I love your channel. You guys are great!
How’s the polish and pad on a paint corrections
For deeper correction we have our Wool pad
So i dont need to use compound prior to this?
No
Is it just a standard 256:1 in the rinseless bucket?
Yes
Will your polish remove defects like swirls and light scratches?
Yes, up to 1500g sanding marks
@diydetailofficial wow that's amazing. Any estimation on how many vehicles a bottle will do?
One bottle will do the equivalent of roughly 64 oz of traditional polishes.
@diydetailofficial Sounds awesome. I know I've been quite the bother in your comments section. Your replies are extremely appreciated, and frankly unbelievable. Never thought I'd have so much useful information from a company in a comments section. As soon as I can afford it, I'll be placing an order. Thank you.
Thanks
Hey Guys, , I have a 2018 Black Acura ILX and I had the hood and bumper repainted by Caliber Collision at the same time. When I do a rinseless wash I’m getting marring from my Kirkland 300 count microfiber when I dry the hood but I don’t on the bumper. Did they do something different
Unfortunately the paint may not be properly cured.
White paint please? Thank you
We have done a few on the channel.
Thanks.
Gentlemen is it advisable to damp the pad but use other brand polish?
no, the Gold Standard Polishing System is just that -- a system.
I want to try to do this at home but afraid damage my car
Start with a junkyard panel
Nice vid great vibes
Glad you enjoyed
What about black paint that is very oxidized?
Same
At what speed do set the Baur sander?
Full
what is this brand sander please ?
it's from Menards, I don't know the brand of the palm sander off hand
@@diydetailofficial looks like toolshop brand.
I polish a black truck today it's still got swirls in it
What machine, pad and polish
7:30 U can do the pillar with 5 inch but can u do a convex panel ? Can u explain if its possible at all?
Yes you can easily do a convex surface, you simply have to slightly tilt the machine
@@diydetailofficialbut that seems to contradict your advice to always keep the pad flat
The "no touch decon" link didn't appear for me....

Thank you
Y’all mentioned keeping the heat down.
Where is the before/after? This didn’t show much
We will make an effort at before/after shots in the future 👍
What rpm are you using with the milwaukee
Lowest speed setting for rotary is the best
On the dual action I was at 3-4
Paint all has to be polished the same ….
Black GM Truck joins the conversation : 👁️👄👁️ get ready for me 😂
Agreed, paint is paint
@@diydetailofficial haven’t seen a combo that can one step a Black GM paint. Just tried it with this combo. Came out great as a 2 step though
@DonJose951 it’s unforgiving for sure
What speed setting do you use?
Speed 3
It is offen said that you should not let a polishing maschine spin freely without load because this would cause damage. Do you think this is nonsense because you always do that?
This is Yvan. I worked in R&D with Porter Cable, and it is not an issue. Bearings are designed for axial load( that’s exactly what happens when free spinning) they are not designed for thrust loads( what you do when you apply pressure to your polisher).
@@diydetailofficial once again: Thank you for taking the time to write an answer.
The car is brand new.. shiney
. They never use a real outdoor car.
I suggest you watch a little more of our content. Yes we wash and polish some very dirty vehicles.
Should’ve took it out in the sun to really see the results cause that’s where it’s really gonna show if the swirls really came off or not on a black car
Black cars a pain to buff 😡
Actually the shop lights show more than the sun
