Best channel & my first go-to even though I don't have goats or bees or rabbits or acres! Heather is just a natural teacher & so real: Ive learned so much & look forward to every new video.
Wow! 46 members now - so exciting to see our little group grow! The antics of the goats never fail to bring a smile to my face, and these made me laugh out loud more than once. The girls eating from the hay cart while you were bringing it inside the barn was the meme of one challenge of having goats. That bread also looked amazing!
i really just love your videos, they make me so happy to watch. you are truly living my dream life, i cant wait to have a fram of my own ( and the dinner looked delicious)
The babies this year are phenomenal! I wish I lived closer, you are an amazing woman! I know we would be great friends. Thank you for sharing you life with us!
TY! This was difficult to watch w/ the goats, but you did it!! Hard to do those difficult things but we don't have a choice sometimes. Bread looks wonderful. Love your content...
I just took the plunge, never been a channel member before! Looking forward to seeing what this is all about, and you have become my favorite goatie mama. I am planning a small, even mini homestead for my retirement years to enjoy with my 3 beautiful grands. I have been gardening for many years but I’m here to learn about the dairy goats. And also new gardening tips. I’m so excited but also terrified to start a small herd of probably Nigerians, d/T only having a few acres. I love your style of videos and also the education you provide. Plus I think I once heard you say you lived in my area, Pinellas County, Fl before. Anyway so happy I found your channel and that it is growing, because you deserve it. I know it takes a lot of extra time to film and edit videos on top of running your farm and raising your sweet family, so I appreciate that you take the time to educate newbies like me!🫶
That's a very viable option! We used to take them to the vet but with the way our kiddings are spread out it was a lot of back and forth in the busy springtime, and $. But the vet is a very good option because disbudding is not an easy task to take on!
Great video, Heather! I really appreciate your video style with the preview as well as an informative title sort of highlighting main topics in the video. Seeing the day's work of feeding the goatie goats, prepping and then making some (looks delicious!) bread, handling some of the tougher stuff (disbudding), harvesting fresh veggies, then the meal prep and serving dinner. We truly did get a wonderful taste of your very busy day and what homesteading/farm life can be like. I love that you pop in the goat's names as well, like you frequently do, the little blip of Stormy trying to lick the camera and her name showing up made me bust out laughing. I also appreciated that you showed the patience and love you have for your animals while disbudding. It truly shows you do care, to give them a bit of a breather and you love on them in between. 💚🫂🫂💚
Those little goats are such troopers. It has to be scary. They are bounding around the barn this morning! They forget all about it super fast which I'm grateful for ♥
Hearther!! I give 100 thumbs 👍🏻 up !! Not just you brave enough to " JUST DO IT !" But you got quite a zoo at feeding time !😂 they're adorable! Thank you for being you and how to teach us different methods in the garden and how to raise 🐐 God bless you!
The disbudding was tough to watch, but you explained so well why it is necessary. When you said Jupiter was going to be disbudded I internally said "Nooooooooo!" But if his having horns would dissuade someone from purchasing him then the disbudding is certainly necessary. I wish I did not live so far away. I would definitely purchase Jupiter for my homestead if he was up for sale. It was love at first sight 🥰. I can't wait to see your gardens this year. I have already purchased all my seeds but can't plant out the tender crops until June 1st. We have a very short season. However, I woke up to a balmy 27 degrees this morning. You were actually colder down there than we were. Weird. Your dinner looked delicious. I smiled too when you crunched the top of the bread loaf. Another great video.
Jupiter tentatively has an excellent home, and they want disbudded only. Which is super common! I understand why. Thankfully they bounce back really fast.
@@SageandStoneHomestead So glad to hear he already has folks who have fallen in love with him. He is beautiful. My neighbor has goats, and does not disbud but she also keeps all of them. Another friend also has goats (Saanan) and does not disbud, but she also does not sell them. They harvest some for meat so they are not overrun with more goats than they can handle. When selling them I see it is definitely a factor. You were so quick in doing it, and they certainly did bounce back quickly.
I had to fast forward thru the disbudding part. And as far as the 2019 Garden plans go, let me know if you figure out how to grow Peas and Cabbage in the middle of July...That'll be Fantastic. I usually find myself wanting to plant Winter crops also during the warmer months. And opposite during the winter months with Summer plants. LOL
Oh my gosh, when you were cleaning the Brussels sprouts. You said like you were getting rid of stuff. Maybe they were just too small or had too many bug holes. I totally heard buttholes. I am so glad I watch you all the time. And I know that that's generally not how you talk. But I got a darn good laugh out of it.
I know you name babies via weather stuff. Just a suggestion, new babies "La Nina or El Nino"?. Weather patterns and such lol. Also.... brussels will now be names fart balls in this house in your honor lol. (my brother in law hates cruciferous veggies. He says they taste and smell like you planted a fart and let it stew, harvested it, cooked the fart and served it 😂😂😂😂... he is 50 LOL)
We just disbudded our Bo’s that are not polled and taking a break before doing the girls that are not polled. I don’t like the job, but one of my favorite doelings from late year before last has one short but strong scur. I was too fast with her and tried frozen peas that year. Well, going back to no frozen veggies to cool the head. Was too cool I think. Love your box and will try to find one. It gives more control and is safer I think. That meal is picture perfect and looks delicious!
Yeah What I started doing is burning for a little longer and popping the horn cap off. It has worked very well in ensuring no scurs. but the cap won't pop off unless the ring is burned thoroughly
Heather and Levi! My ND does jumped on the top of her Dutch door today and startled the Bejesus out of our UPS guy! He is still planning on getting ND goats soon….. lol!
Heather, what about tetenous when disbudding? I saw a content creator who said one of her baby goats died after disbudding because she didn't give a tetenous shot. Just wondering. 😊
I don't like disbudding either, but it is necessary. I do the figure eight on my bucks as well, but have considered getting the mini, to burn a smaller circle within the larger to prevent scurs on the does. It is all learning curve, right?
Yes!! I've started "flipping the caps" on disbudding and so far no scurs on girls. The scurs on boys are coming from that part that the figure 8 would remove!
@@hickoryhillinthebigwoods-r759 to burn enough that the center circle of the burned ring comes off. That ensures that there is absolutely no blood flow that can get to the horn bud.
Is there any over the counter medication to numb the area. I purchased a buck tip that fits the x30. I haven’t used it yet, but its supposed to fit the entire horn so you only have to burn once.

Heather you are such a good person, hard worker and great mom/wife!..Don't let anyone tell you other wise!❤
Hugs, thank you so much❤❤❤
I love your little goat box. It works so well!
It does! If you ever need goats done and can't make it to the vet (or don't want to), I'm here!!
Heather you make the best videos! Your style is perfect. Informative and entertaining! ❤❤
Thank you!! ❤️❤️
Nice harvest on the brussel sprouts!
Thanks! Better than nothing but I hoped for more. Making improvements for the upcoming fall season!
@SageandStoneHomestead Same. Hopefully, we can get our high tunnel in operation this year
I loved that you shared the garden 2019 … I giggled with you when you were reading off what you were going to plant. ❤
I was ambitious to be sure! Learned a lot that year! Been trying to grow broccoli in a hotter climate ever since haha ♥

Welcome to the membership!! It's a blast for sure! Yes we used to live all over Pinellas and Hillsborough counties! It's a small world!
Good morning! I love seeing all the help you get when distributing the hay :D
I don't think I could do the disbudding, I'd have to have the vet do it.

We feed hay 365 days a year. We have no grass. Looking to move to a place that has the ability to have good pasture.

You need to be a speaker at the Bourbon Trail Homestead Festival! It’s in Shepherdsville Ky! Looks like some amazing speakers already signed up!!

We keep cd&t antitoxin on hand if needed but do not prophylactically treat.

Not that I know of! I know some people give banamine injections on banding day or disbud day.
But banamine is not OTC
unfortunately we have 365 days of feeding hay.
Ugh so sorry!
