In someways you remind me so much of my mom. Of course you are way younger but she passed away 30 years ago. She did a lot of the things that you do but on a very small scale. I love how you take care of your family and work so hard to give them treats, that are good and good for them. Thank you so much for taking great care of your family! Thank you for sharing with us!

Your kids are wonderful! You are teaching them life skills and independence. I wish more parents were like you. I tried to teach my kids how to take care of themselves. My younger son is autistic, but he can do his own laundry, clean the house, and cook a meal with little fanfare. This kind of self-confidence is important for them. Maxwell is turning out to be a great cook.

Another great simple recipe is for Irish sweet soda bread,
    Irish fruit soda bread
    400 Grams bread flour
    15 grams bicarbonate of soda
    Pinch of salt
Put all dry ingredients through a sieve into a bowl.
100 Grams raisins or Sultanas (other dried fruits would work well)
    60 Grams caster sugar
330 millilitres buttermilk (plain kefir is fantastic substitute if you cannot get buttermilk)
    Method:
    Preheat oven to 180.
Sieved dry ingredients into large bowl Add sugar & fruit
    Mix together all dry ingredients.
    Add wet ingredient:
Using your hands add the buttermilk (Kefir) slowly mixing as you pour Do it slowly & Don’t over mix, it should be sticky but not wet.
Tip onto a surface and bring it together in to a round shape ( add a little flour if needed but not much)
Top tip = you can do all of this in one bowl.
    Cooking:
Get a metal baking tray / sheet & place some baking paper on.
Place your bread round on the tray pat gently with flat of your hand so it’s about 3 inches thick.
Using a sharp knife cut a cross on the top about half way through (traditionally it’s called letting the fairies out / free)
Bake at 180 for 25 minutes
Take out & flip over & bake for further 10 minutes. Bread is cooked through when you tap the bottom & it sounds hollow.

I am the same about breakfast. A couple cups of coffee is a must, but I could do without eating until @ 11:00, lunch would then be @ 3:00, and supper at 8:00 or 9:00. Especially during the summer when we are outside until dark-thirty, which is 9:30-10:00PM here. I enjoy breakfasts foods, and don’t mind cooking them, I’m just not hungry in the morning.

I’ve just watched your Homemade Cereal Alternatives! AND watching you spread your sourdough on the parchment paper, made me think….. I have switched to an offset spatula to spread it. I originally bought it for doing cake decorating. It has helped soo much with keeping the parchment paper from lifting up while you’re spreading😊🎉

Amish Baked Oatmeal is my absolute favorite! My mother received the recipe from a friend who married a former Mennonite. It takes me back to my childhood. I remember my first time tasting a commercial cereal on a trip to visit cousins in Georgia. It was fruity pebbles and I thought we were having dessert for breakfast. My little eight year old mind was blown away with sugar, artificial flavors and coloring😅

I wash my dishes as I go. So by the time we sit down and eat dinner there are only dinner dishes to go into the dishwasher. Plus it keeps your counter clean to continue prepping. Now if I can only get my adult girls to clean as they go lol. Love your videos. I recently retired and find scratch cooking actually exciting. I’m a custom cake decorator so I was always more into baking than cooking. But I’ve learned so much from everyone and you’re using ingredients you already have bought and paid for. Example homemade sour cream, I was skeptical but omg it’s delicious and so much fresher tasting! I started a cookbook for my kids so they have old and new recipes etc. but I never thought about doing this when my mom and grandma were around now all those recipes not many have. So I’m asking my oldest brother who loves to cook if he remembers the recipes etc. So each time I find or create a recipe I immediately put it into my cookbook. This is an online cookbook that emails my kids and siblings those recipes I did. Plus they can insert their recipes too. It can be printed out professionally or with a home printer.

I have found I am able to make actual good food for dinner using jars I have canned in about a half an hour after work. That never would have happened without the canning. I actually cannot wait to get back into the kitchen to see what else I can put up. You really have made a huge impact on my life and the health of my family. So thank you for every video you put out. This is why i would prefer to sleep until 9 or 10. Never been much of a breakfast person, but love having pancakes for supper....dad used to do that for us a few times a month. I bet if i could have milk ( need to get a goat or jersey cow...lol) when i wake up...I'd be ready for breakfast. Hubby makes scrambled eggs, hash browns, and bacon every Sunday for breakfast. I have choked down the eggs so as not to discourage his helpfulness. But if breakfast happened at 11AM, I'd have no problem. I thought i was the only one with that issue...but i am relieved to hear i am not! Thanks for the ideas. I do have a dairy goat farm in my community...gonna hop on that idea. Thanks!

I have made baked oatmeal, and we love that! I've also made lots of granola, which also makes a great snack. I've made a savory granola that has a little pinch of cayenne in it that we like, too. But your cinnamon toast crunch cereal is definitely on my bucket list. I'm praying for you and your daughter, and all the families involved in the wedding. I'm so with you about breakfast! My dad was the same way. The best I can do first thing in the morning is a piece of toast and, maybe, a bit of fruit. The granola looks especially yummy!

What a treat. I also like your encouragement to people starting in the kitchen. For time spent, can choose better ingredients even towards more organic, non gmo choices. $$saved too!!♥️♥️♥️

I learned something new, besides the recipes. My youngest wakes up and it is a struggle to get her to eat anything in the morning. I usually give her milk with whatever she is eating but she doesn't drink it, and doesn't usually eat her food. Maybe just sticking with a glass of milk until she's ready to eat would be more doable for her (and me, if she's wasting less lol). So thank you for sharing that about the glass of milk! And always, thank you for sharing your recipes! 🥰 God bless and stay safe!

Then, at 3ish, we have a small snack...and that's it. I think we are all programed to eat 3 meal/day which I don't think is good for us as adults...children, yes...they need to eat more often. I only wish my mother had been like you. She was a very strict person, so glad I never had to work for her at her job. She is gone now, but I was not a fan of her teaching me things, so I did not learn to cook from her. However, I had the homesteader heart, she did not, and so as I grew up I learned from as man others as possible how to cook for myself and my family. So, even though I worked a full time job, my kids grew up on homemade food, as much as possible from scratch and organic. My oldest is 26, and I was seeing all the dyes and crap that were being put into foods then and avoided them every chance I got. Love your channel. Keep up the great parenting, and blessings to the bride and groom with the wedding festivities. P.S. My mother said about five years ago that I was the best cook in the family! Shocked the heck outta me, and she said it in front of her sister, who is a great cook and my sister, who learned from my mom, but is not a very good cook, lol. Blessings to your entire family. But mostly to you Ruth Ann, your patience is amazing!

Good luck with pulling together the wedding! May they have a blessed marriage. Maxwell was so cute making the granola! Thank you for sharing these recipes. I have always hated how much cereal costs us and I know there are things in there that I would rather not be eating so I will definitely try these out.

I love this channel. You remind me of my now deceased wonderful aunt. They had a big farm in Iowa and they had 5 boys...no girls.

Ok, that granola looks amazing...and simple. Yea for simple! I have tried baked oatmeal before, but was not a fan...but I will give yours a try, because I have learned you really have terrific recipes. So yep, those two are definitely getting tried! Blessings to you and family as you celebrate this week! Marie

I think the key is the type of oats... never quick, & the heartier the better. IMHO

Thought you might like to try these British Flapjacks,
    British Flapjack recipe.
Basic recipe. Each item can be switched according to your needs, for example Butter= coconut oil, vegan butter, Tallow, lard, so long as it is a hard fat.
Sugar = any sugar you use is fine ( not powdered)
Remember that oats are a complex carbohydrate & keep you fuller for longer great for growing children (always hungry)
These make a fantastic nutritious breakfast bar, snack, tea time treat.
Replace any of the ingredients with whatever you like so long as you stick with the basic recipe.
    Ingredients needed: basic
    * 165g Butter / hard fat - Unsalted
    * 125g Soft Brown Sugar - Brown Sugar. Coconut sugar
    * 250g Oats - Do not use Jumbo Oats they are too big.
    * 60g Sweetener* Honey set or runny honey,Maple Syrup is also fine. golden syrup.molasses.
    * Salt - Just a pinch
Preheat the oven to 180c fan assisted. Grease and line the base and sides of a square baking tin 8 inch (20cm) x 8 inch (20cm) with baking parchment.
Step 1: Melt the butter, sugar, and honey* in a large pan over a very gentle heat until all the sugar and butter have melted.
Step 2: Mix the dry ingredients Oats, salt, (cinnamon , ginger/ mixed spice) nuts fruit together in a large bowl, make a well in the centre.
Step 3: Pour in the melted butter and sugar liquid.
Step 4: Mix thoroughly until everything is well combined.
Step 5: Using the back of a spoon start to spread the mixture in the tin.
Step 6: Spread the mixture evenly and firmly ( really pushing down) to avoid the Flapjacks turning out crumbly.
Step 7: Bake in the centre of the oven for 20 - 25 minutes ( depending on how much crunch you want) or until baked and golden brown in colour. Remove from the oven and leave to cool a little before partially slicing the top into sections ( I use my metal bread scraper for this) divide into equal portions this makes it easier to slice through into bars when the Flapjacks have cooled completely.
Step 8: Only when they are completely cold, should you slice them into individual bars.
    * Tip 1 - Do not over heat the butter and sugar the Flapjacks will become hard and difficult to eat.
    * Tip 2 - wait until the Flapjacks have cooled completely before you slice into individual bars.
    * Tip 3 you can add additional ingredients for flavour = shedded coconut, finely chopped dried fruit, finely mixed nuts, chocolate chips, For example finely chopped dried apples & cinnamon, ginger, mixed spices, a spoonful of multi seeds. Play with the mixture & make it your family favourite.
    * Tip 4 - once cooled & sliced you can dip one end in chocolate. Or top with candied fruit, caramel nuts,
    Enjoy ❤️

We have been making a large dutch baby in the cast iron skillet for breakfast a lot recently. Our hens have resumed laying eggs. We need to dry up our cow soon, and I'll miss the fresh milk until she calves. I love homemade granola!! Never made baked oatmeal, but should try!

I always love what you share and the encouragement for others to try to add to their skill set. I have worked outside of my home for 42 + years and I love being in the kitchen! I don’t even mind the dishes and I don’t have a dish washer.😂 Simple, home cooked meals is right up my alley! I hope you take time off for your daughter’s wedding!! We’ll be here when you get back!!!
