- RC crawling has exploded in popularity over the past few years, and this time on 10th Scale Garage, we take a look at my FAVORITE RC crawler that wasn't really intended to be a crawler...... The Redcat Wendigo. Redcat calls this a "rock racer" but most of it's chassis would be right at home on a crawler from Axial or Traxxas. We'll take it out on the rocks, through the trails and even attempt a hill climb. First, however, we need to fix it.

My Wendadingagogo is my favorite crawler! A small pinion and wheel weights and it is unstoppable. Love the 10th scale garage!!!!!

I wanted a wendigo but I got a trx4 79 bronco that I'm making into a mud/ trail truck. I have a 3200kv and a blx 100 with the traxxas lift kit. Next thing I'm getting for it is a good set of bigger wheels and tires. I love that I can unlock and lock the diffs but mainly the 2 speed is the sweet spot for going fast but still able to crawl and go slow. The wendigo is still a rad truck!

Cool Vid 10th Scale Squad!! My Daughter has a Wendigo and she just Rips it all the time. I have put a few mods to it as she has broke it on a few runs 😝😆 This Redcat is a stout Rig well worth the $$$. She loves it cuz she likes To Go Fast 😆😆😆👊 Stay safe and bash on from Colorado!!!
I LOVE mine. I put a 2200 slate castle system in it, on 4s. And some Deep woods tires. It's got a mega truck vibe. And I flip the switch and go crawl on the rocks. Stock servo is working still. Only thing I broke was the stubby driveshaft that I replaced with the metal one.
It's not crawling bad...but some 'dragbrake' and maybe the battery in the front works well. But the video shows some good skills

Awesome, bro. I love my Wendigo. I got a sensorless system in mine using a 120 an ESC I removed from an rtr arrma but I put an outrunner motor on it. With the outrunner, it's just as good as a sensored system but with more torque. I prefer outrunners of sensored for crawlers, trail trucks, and rock bouncers. You should give one a try. sensorless outrunners are really common and inexpensive.
I have the HobbyWing Fusion in my Wendigo with full droop and I am using Ryft tires and wheels. It crawls good and looks cool low to the ground.

Good luck keeping a rock Rey that slow, but yea I have one too and with aftermarket shocks it almost feels like a crawler🤣🤣
I run the tires of this on my SMT10 3s build and it’s a blast on a trail
I put a sensored system in it and yeah boi ! It kept the power and it had that slow creep in loved it . after about 200 in upgrades it was a beast and a vary good contender .
I looked this before I got the trailwalker . I still would like to get one as it good size for the vehicle

I wonder if you could overdrive the front like one would do with a crawler? Would make it pull more straight when going up that big hill it was struggling on.

Why not go with the Marksman if you're going for a crawler? One of the best brushed ESC and motor out of the box, better tires for crawling, and a longer wheelbase.

Amazing, but it needs some key things...90mm shocks all around, better tires and metal wheels and a very good brushless system
Heavy brass wheel weights and this rig is 1 of the top crawler rigs on market add a outrunner motor and u got a super crawler
I’ve got a wendigo also…the kit version! It’s a fun truck but too fast for the high center of gravity and soft suspension. Been Sitting on my shelf for about a year cause it got old flipping it back over all the time! Thinking of putting a sensored crawler set up in it! Should be a great rig for that!
its a rock racer! you should try racing it up suuuper steep hills atleast thats what ill be doing with mine😂 you see them in real life and they really only perform on those big hills that have huge rocks to bounce over or they just rip through mud😂
program your esc it helps alot with crawling drag brake up punch max to help with cogging

I recently bought a Wendigo. When I try to run it in a straight line, the steering veers to the right or left. I have a decent metal geared servo. Has anyone else had this issue?

What do you recommend. Wraith/bomber or Redcat Wendigo
Depends on what you want to do. Wraith is the best out of the box crawler, but Wendigo is was faster and more fun/ exciting to drive.
I've bought two pre-owned Redcat Gen 8 (version 1). The owner did some upgrades, but the quality of the plastic diffs is highly dissatisfying. Be ready to put a lot of metal ($) in your rig. One of my cars became a donor for the next one.
The wendigo's axles are completely different than the Gen 8 they're a solid axle and we're actually designed by one of the old engineers for axial this whole truck was his brainchild they just used the Gen 8 chassis the axles are in a league of their end I run them on a CPE terminator chassis solid axle monster truck with ,,2.6 clod Buster size tires and beat it on 3s all day long and I've never broke an axle. If it was the Gen 8 axles under it I would agree with you but the plastic on these are some of the best I've ever seen out of any brand it's much different than the normal Red cat crawler plastic
@@TheMdavis07I like my Redcat Gen8 crawlers. They remind me what is underdog term means. A little more work, and you might get a decent car. Every car breaks from time to time. What's the matter is the preparedness to fix it or not? I decided to fix it :)
This is nothing but the old Gen8 with a brushless motor
I dropped an AXE system in mine, and it is the best crawler, droop the suspension......nothing like it.
I think those tires need weight....

I love the hell out of my wendigo but I do have to say they are getting a little pricey but if you can find a wholesale you can pick them up for around 350.00👍
