Your right on point. Alot of people will try and sale that you have to redo more then you do. I try and work with my clients budgets and if we can do it we will .
You did not show the caulking around the perimeter. I watched the entire video just for that part. What caulk did you use? Did you caulk over the perimeter grout?
If you did have a leak in the tile, would I get away with putting down some Flex Seal over the entire exisiting tile floor and then water proofing film, and then follow what you did on the video? Thanks in advance!
It doesn't hurt to try it. If you do, I would recommend using epoxy grout to finish it off. It's a little harder to work with, but it's the best on the market.
Yes let it dry. You can also use redguard or hydroban or the mapei aqua defense. These you can paint with a brush let dry and tile over the top. Remember this only works if you don't have a leak.
@@datileguy301 I had a shower installed in 2017 with hexagon tiles and the grout has fine cracks throughout and some of the tiles have come out. It would be difficult to regrout and I thought this would be a good option.
This a great video thank you. I have a similar problem in my basement shower floor I have a pebbles floor but they all fallen apart so my husband took them all out. But the thing is the floor is not smooth and even can I put new tiles floor over even if it's not smooth and even ground?
If you didn't have any puddling issues, I would spread some good cement over it with the smooth side of the trowel. Let it dry overnight. Then you can set the tile again. Another thing I'd try is scraping it smooth with a nice, sharp chisel. Good luck!
sorry man.. tried to watch and youtube is doing that shit where the popup blocker is preventing me from viewing it. So im gonna go watch it on the tiny box at the main menu
2 inch thin cracks or a total hole of 2 inches. If it's a small crack. Put some mesh tape n thinset on first then put this down or some redguard they sale at homedepot. And good thinset to install the tile again
Good video, couple of questions. What type of trowel did you use? I am looking to install 2x2 Tiles on the floor an the idea of cleaning grout out of all of those joints scare me. I was thinking a 1?8" trowel, is that feasible? Did you have any problems with uneven tiles? I have a shower on a slab but the original installer did a mediocre job using standard 4x4 tiles on the floor. They are bonded very well to the concrete and are rather level but not perfect from tile to tile by any means. I fear that I will have a problem with the next level accentuating the unevenness
Thank you . Trowel size I would say 1/8 is good for you. About the uneven tiles if you aren't removing them then try to skim it with thinset first let it dry then install on top. Skim I mean go over with the flat side of the trowel and thinset to try and even as much possible. Good luck 👍🏽
Can you please provide a list of products that you used? How do you feel about using redgard insread of that membrane? Ty! Next video should be narrated. This is so helpful.
Products that I used were kerdi membrane . Allset thinset . Tiles from home depot . Redguard hydro ban work great also. The extend o drain to.raise drain flat . Hope this helps thank you for the comments
Thank you for the info and the how to video. That is perfect for some situations. I wish I would have seen this before we tried to use tile paint ! It was terrible.
Came back to say this shit is looking pretty sharp! I like the membrane you put down. I was going to etch my tiles but i think ima get that matt instead!
What did you use to seal the floor against the walls? We are discussing doing this but are unsure knowing that the tile floor would usually be under the walls. Thank you! Great video!
Very hard to do. You will most likely hit whatever waterproofing you have. Most older showers have a rubber pan. Very difficult to remove without damaging it.
Kerdi membrane will not help with cracking its not a crack isolation membrane. I am a licensed tile contractor with my specialty cert in marble tile terrazzo and ceramic been doing tile for 41 years and this process will not last and is not sanctioned by Schluter.
Thank you for replying. I explained all this to the customers. This was the best I could do for their budget on this job. It's been over 1 year I did this. I have not had a call back. I never made promises of it lasting 5-10 years . But thank you my friend
I also want to tile over my ugly fiberglass pan so I might do this instead of ripping the whole floor , I think you right , if the water is leaking out to the subfloor you cannot do this but if it’s a solid base it’s good to go ! Even people with license do Mickey Mouse sometimes lol 😂 some contractors are full of it 🤣
What type of answer is that? How that it was the customer’s budget? Bro the mapei gallon is $45 bucks and it’s the proper way to do it. Read the instructions of the schulter membrane 🤦🏻♂️
Hey Bro it looks like you don’t know the difference between Schluter Kerdi membrane and Mapei water proofing membrane so I don’t need to respond to your comment because you don’t know what you’re talking about. I sent this video to Phil and Brian who are sales reps and head of installations for North America and they laughed first and then confirmed that not only will this fail but Schluter does not recommend this type of install. So got take some classes get educated on products and processes. Until keep your trap shut. It’s guys like you running around do hack work that give my industry a bad name.
Thanks for showing this! Exactly what I need.
Thank you !! And for the comment
Nice work .looks like it could be a quick budget fix until a complete re-do can be done.

Totally agree with you on this and it looks great! Cool stuff..
Looks awesome! It’s exactly what I need, wish you were in Ft. Lauderdale!
Thank you 😊
Music is nice, but I want to hear your explanation
Thank you . Will start to crank out more videos
You did not show the caulking around the perimeter. I watched the entire video just for that part. What caulk did you use? Did you caulk over the perimeter grout?
Definitely we did. Maybe didn't show it. I like to use the silicone caulk that matches the Grout.
Can you use that same process to do shower pan but remove the old walls and install new tile for shower? Loved the video
Thank you for the comment! Not really understanding the question?

Appreciate the tips and efficient video! Great job
Thank you very much. This is for a quick fix on a budget my friend
Thank you for sharing this. Question, do you allow the membrane layer to dry before proceeding with laying down the tile?
Yes let it dry. You can also use redguard or hydroban or the mapei aqua defense. These you can paint with a brush let dry and tile over the top. Remember this only works if you don't have a leak.

Thank you.your video helped me a great deal
Glad it helped. Sometimes we can't afford the whole bathroom renovation. So we have to do small improvements
@Datileguy301 so true, that's what I'm going through.thanks again and have a wonderful evening
Shouldn’t you at least sand the glaze from mold tile, maybe add a primer?
This was 2x2 with no glaze on tiles. If you would like to add primer and sand then go ahead no problems with me. Thank you for the comment
Es todo carnal, I enjoyed and learned from your video, gracias
Gracias amigo!

Appreciate it . It's holding up well
What was the purpose of the paper that you laid down and tiled over?
It's a membrane that you use to waterproof showers. I put it down to help me with mold and moisture damage. It's held up after 3 years .
my shower floor not leaking but has crack 2' from drain. i dont know if it will eventually leak. would this work?
2 inch thin cracks or a total hole of 2 inches. If it's a small crack. Put some mesh tape n thinset on first then put this down or some redguard they sale at homedepot. And good thinset to install the tile again
Did you leave the floor drain in the original height? If not how did you raise it to match the new tile?
They sale these drain extendo kits so it sits flush with new tile . Thank you and good luck 👍🏽

Great job! How long did you wait between putting down the membrane and putting down the tile?
I would advice giving it 24 hours . And using the recomend thinset shulter all set brand .

Eco Prim Grip is the bonding membrane for tiling over tile.
How much does a job like that go for?
All depends on how bad the floor is. Would have to see the job . Thank you

I appreciate it 🙏. It's holding up I've been in contact with the homeowners.
Not really how the schluter membrane is supposed to be used.
Totally understand. It's used to waterproof walls and it also goes down on mud bed shower pans. Thank you for your comment
What flooring is that
Flooring is from home depot. They have different color diamonds.
Hi do you still have to slope the floor
Hi all showers have to have a slope . The floor underneath was already sloped. So it was nice and easy to go over top. 🙂
What did you use to seal the floor against the walls? We are discussing doing this but are unsure knowing that the tile floor would usually be under the walls. Thank you! Great video!
Good caulking my friend. Yes .mostly the tiles go underneath but in this instance we could not. Thank you 😊
I don't think it's long-term
Definitely I even say this is to give you time to save some money to redo the bathroom. Thank you !
@@datileguy301 May I ask what is correct way to do to replace old shower tiles?
@fengcai256 correct way would be to demo and start from new my friend.
