I first tasted Kilbeggan, in Belfast. I was in a pub having a pint and I noticed that the Kilbeggan was on sale at a very attractive price. I enjoyed it, too much. I don't think that I've had any Kilbeggan since, but I can say that as a bargain whiskey, Kilbeggan is very drinkable. If you compare it to other whiskeys in the same price range, it is very nice.
I got a tiny hint of the acetone also, but after opening up it did mostly go away and became a fairly easy drink. Not the worst, but nothing special. I'll probably use it as a mixer and not likely to buy another bottle, but for 17.99 USD, it was worth trying once. 🥃
Enjoying all your reviews, and I'm going to try a couple based on them. Would be really interested in your opinion of some of the Aldi own brand Whiskeys.
Hey John, great channel, not sure if you can get it, but I recently tried a bottle of 'The Pogues' whiskey which was on offer in our local Morrissons. I'd be interested in your thoughts on this as its launched itself as one of my favourites now.
I actually work with thinners of varying sorts including...acetone. I've drink/drank/drunk Kilbeggan. I dont know where you are getting an acetone smell and/or taste from. To me that is what many brands including many of your higher end scotches smell/taste like and one of the primary reasons I dont drink scotch. The other being it makes me ornery. Though I must confess I do prefer Kilbeggan with just a little bit of ice rather than neat.
It could be a confusion between ethanol and acetone, some can't distinguish the two as well as they'd like....(or perhaps he left the covers loose on the paint thinner cans - sitting underneath on the shelf to the right)....🤔
You should listen to the podcast. A story of Irish whiskey. It Jamba’s a lot of great info about Irish whiskey so give it a listen. Good man John love the videos. And up the deise
You are right. Even green Jameson is much better.... for me it's too sweet and has a weird taste and smell after all... you can drink it as whiskey + cola form to get drunk, but not good as whiskey experience.
I like it. I dont taste or smell the acetone of which he speaks. Normally to me that's what most scotch to me smells like. and I should know. I work with acetone among other things for a living
@@TMendez528 yeah me either. Although I do taste the ethanol though. A few weeks after I gave this to A buddy, it was his birthday so, I bought him another bottle of a different product, as did a few others. We , about 8 of us, taste tasted 7different whiskies. We all concur, they all taste different....lol But none of us could pick out THE NOTEs of this or that, the ones these reviewers speak so fondly of. While I don't normally drink whiskey, but wanted to give it a try(the world seems to love their whiskey). I figure I saved a bunch of money that night. I've no need to buy expensive stuff - honestly I can't appreciate it. I mix it with Pepsi for the most part anyway. I'll drink my homemade shine - diluted to 60% and mixed with cold(another no no in the booze world)soda. I'm not about getting drunk, just a drink here and there. I'll stick to mine and let the world enjoy the overpriced offering of the big distillers. Cheers 🥃
Good honest review. We call that stuff Rot Gut or sometimes paint thinner. It's the stuff you keep at the back of the cupboard for when that one family member comes over at Christmas who knows nothing about whiskey but wants to pretend they know. It has a position of honor right beside the Ballantines :)
It's straight up awful tack. Pedestrian and 'chemical' flavour. Ended up giving it away and they thought it was poor as well. But I suppose it is their entry whiskey.
It’s better with water added but yeah used to be better under John Teeling tbh. I look forward to see what he comes out with from his Dundalk distillery now.
Globalism and stuff. Globalism sucks. Whiskey globalized. I hope I can globalize my piss someday and sell it. I don't know if this Kilbeggan is the same stuff I first had in year 2000, the first time I tried it. Been tasting and smelling and trying to figure it out.

I'm not a fan of this but I will try some more offerings from kilbeggan.
@@thewhiskeyshed.4105 I’m sure the ambience of my surroundings influenced my experience.
@@thewhiskeyshed.4105 You may have had a bad bottle. This is good whiskey for its price
I share your tasting experiance; but it worked very well with a bootle of ice cold coke the day after 🙂

Add water, much better.

not good, but I will try their other stuff. I have heard good things about it.
