What a lovely review. Love the accent and helpful insights. Nice video. Particularly as I am not a whiskey drinker but learning the art of Mixology I am beginning to look at the Irish nectar types. So this is a very valuable post.
I really enjoy your review and the knowledge you share. I have to agree with you about Jameson’s and Powers Gold; I keep those on-hand and always have another bottle in my inventory. I have to also have Maker’s and Green Spot in my inventory. I’m not a fan of Kilbeagan and will not get it again. Again I really enjoy your reviews and educational opportunities. Thank you.
I’m new to your channel and I have to say I just love it. Your reviews are spot on, plus I like that you give the history of the distillery and the area. I just had my 65th birthday last week with some friends gifting me Powers Gold and Yellow Spot. My son surprised me with a bottle of Tipperary, single malt Irish. It was their 3rd batch and it’s bottle #1 of 1,916 bottles. Sentimental in that my great grandmother was from Tipperary. Keep up the good work and Slainte!
Jameson Crested 10 (now Jameson Crested because it's not 10 years old and someone complained) is a gorgeous whiskey, full of flavours, smooth as silk and you'll find it between €25 to €35 in offy's and supermarkets. Definitely would recommend and worth a try at that price...
The Glendalough Double Barrel is quite interesting. One of the bottles I had didn’t change at all, the second one was really weird at first and got much better over time. Needless to say, they were totally different. Even with the bottle in front of me I wouldn’t have guessed that it should be the same whiskey
Great video. It’s great to get your opinion and an honest opinion. Will have to try some on it one day the rocking Robin, Well that’s what I’ll be doing after I’ve had a few of them. Looking forward to some more reviews over 2021. Hope to see you in your shed soon, I should stop saying see you soon hope to hear you soon. When is the Facebook coming
A bit surprised to not find Tullamore Dew on your shelf. For now, it’s my go to inexpensive Irish whiskey for sharing. Also tried a Sexton yesterday that was affordable and very pleasant. Agree about the Green Spot but have yet to experience any of the Powers offerings. Enjoy your insights, keep them coming.
Since my comment earlier, I did pick up a Powers John’s Lane and I really enjoy it. Also got my first Red Breast 12 and a bottle of Slane. The Slane is my new bottom shelf go-to, then either the Powers or RB 12. Top shelf belongs to Middleton VR and a Middleton Barry Crocket.
@@dalegeorge1339 I have not tried the Slain or any of the Middleton's you speak of. I do love John's Lane and RB12 equally. Also, there's nothing wrong with Powers 3 Swallow. I'd say my top shelf is reserved for RB21. I'd love to find an RB27 but at the same time, maybe not. Don't know if I could pull the trigger on a $500 bottle! As a side note, the Tealings Black Pits is pretty good too... if you like a peated whiskey. CHEERS 🍻
Currently I do have open bottles of RB 21 and the Midleton Barry Crocket. I give a slight preference to the RB 21, but just barely…depending on the day I suppose. As far as Teeling you mentioned, I will keep an eye open for it…but the Teeling small batch I have open has been a little disappointing. Others have loved it so either my taste runs different or maybe it’s been open too long. And yeah…$500 is probably out of consideration for RB 27, but I bet it’s a great sipper!
If you can get your hands on a bottle I would suggest Pendleton Directors Reserve. It is a 20 Year Canadian Whiskey. I bought it for a special occasion and was highly impressed. It costs about $125 US.
Suggestions I am interested in hearing your opinion on for the future.... 1. Dingle - Single Malt (no sure what batch is available now but #2 I heard was good) 2. Tryconnell 3. West Cork 4. Glendalough *** Personal note: I am working on tracing back my Irish family lines and know that one branch (Betts/Bates, Austin & Bryan families) came from the town Clonmel, Tipperary (right on the border of Waterford) which I believe is near where your from! The other branches have been more troubling.
@@thewhiskeyshed.4105 I’ll let you know when I eventually go an visit the city and buy you a pour. An interesting single malt I want try is the Knappogue Castle 12 Year Old. I just got the Redbreast 12 and Green Spot and love them both. Powers John’s Lane will be my purchase next month.
@@thewhiskeyshed.4105 I tried 3 of the Teelings. Single Malt: is good but not impressive, probably won't get. Small Batch: not fantastic, seems very young and bright, definitely won't get. Single Grain: this is awesome, have a bottle and really enjoy, has a rounder creamier body and has character, closer to Redbreast 12. Love the channel, big fan of Ireland and their whiskey future. From a half-Irish American, cheers!
I tried the rb12 CS and got a bit of a peanut butter smell and taste. May have been just a one off. Have you experienced that or did I just get a bad bottle?
Spot on pretty much with all your choices. Tried the Waterford and definitely not enough going on. Friend gave me a blind sample of it and felt not v much going on. The three swallows is best 30€ u could spend on a whiskey when it’s discounted. Need to try Slane neat to get a better idea of it. Love red breast but yet to try yellow spot & cask strength. Also based on the three swallow I should go up a tier and try the next powers on the podium. Powers is amazing whiskey. Bought a tuath glass based on this channel and love it. Keep up the good work. Would love your thoughts on bushmills black bush. Another bargain at 26€ imho
I was in tesco yesterday and saw they have a tesco finest 12 year old single malt irish aged in burboun and sherry cask its €34 was wondering if anyone had tried it ??
Hi just found your channel and have subscribed, its a great idea. When you get a chance you should try Connemara Whiskey., absolutely delicious. Keep up the good work.
I think it's funny the Irishman doesn't like the American bourbon whiskey😅. This is a pure and true Irishman. (However Makers is a non traditional wheated bourbon which isn't my favorite either). I like Irish whiskey but find it to mild and bit boring. But I like these reviews because I want to like it more.
Great job Sir as always love them all Please look into Amazon list so i can buy and at no extra cost you get a little commission and you might get a bottle a year free or a month ! And a you need a amazon wish list so i can buy you a what i would like to are reviewed May your family Take care and be healthy

Love your whiskey reviews. How does Redbreast 15 compare to the cask 12
Lovely video. Im rediscovering Irish whisky as we speak. The one before Currach was the lustau version by red breast. Stunning. Find out
Have you ever tried Kilbrin Irish whiskey if so what is your thoughts on it.

Bought some on sale Slane after watching this video. Hope there's a best of 2021 video coming!

Agree. Redbreast is the best Irish whiskey. Cheers

I will agree however on that Jameson Black Barrel- that stuff is good!
Black Barrel is worth the difference.
Seriously appreciate a proper good opinion, especially from a fellow Waterford man
Cheers !!

I was introduced to Irish whiskey with some Green Spot. I think it’s great. Then I was given some Bush Mills 21. Wow!
Glad I found your channel. Looking forward to more of your whiskey tasting content. I enjoy tasting whiskey quite a bit myself.
Welcome aboard!
Enjoyed the video John. Where did your short stemmed glasses come from? Interesting variant on the glencairn / tulip shape.
Its the tuath Irish Whiskey glass
@@thewhiskeyshed.4105 thanks will take a look online
Im never without a bottle of Green spot, highly recommended 👌
Lovely recap John and I’ll gladly take second for the Slane! 😉. Now you need to try some Sexton
The Sexton was one of my first Irish Whiskey I tried and I really enjoy it. 🥃👍🏽
The Slane was a great recommendation
Tried the Sexton yesterday, and it is very nice. It may be my new budget friendly favorite.
Nice guide. Going to be tasting these this year. Now go to bed John, you've work in the morning.
Found this channel, last night. Great videos and content. Keep them coming.
Cheers Cormac I'll do my best
Great review. Interesting you were unconvinced by the Teelings Pot Still . For me its is a great addition to the Teelings catalogue
I really liked it a first but haven't gone back to it much. Looking forward to giving their single malt a go.

"It's just delicious!" - sold me on the cask strength!
Just watching you is mesmerising lol.....
Thank you 🤣
You should try buffalo trace
Will do.
Just ordered some Redbreast for my Fathers Birthday. Good thing he lives close. lol
A nice birthday present 🎁
I tried and loved the powers gold label because of your review. thanks. it'll be a regular with my redbreast 12

Looking forward to many more reviews.
Brilliant review 👏 Thanks a million!!! Please keep going 🙏
More to come.
Still waiting for you to include that Christmas fruit cake in a video...:). Happy New Year!
Next Christmas I promise!
For me, the standard Redbreast 12. Redbreast loses so much mouthfeel through the chill filtration and 40% abv. Yellow Spot absolutely kicks its arse.
Please write the names in order of your winning order in the description.
Done

RB15 for me Hella beats the RB CS!

No love for Teeling?
The Single Pot Still is not great to be honest, the Sigle malt and Small batch are not bad.
