It took The Stig a whole morning to get used to this car. This machine demands respect.
Derek Jimenez I wonder how long Jeremy took to get used to the McLaren P1
Definitely demands respect. As Hammond put it when driving the Lamborghini Aventador, "I want people watching not to just go, 'wow, that's a stunning looking thing', I want them to look at me inside and think, 'Woah, there goes Chuck-E- Hammond, he's brave!'"
you have to be walter röhrl to control this thing properly.
TheWolvesCurse
You have to be Senna to race this thing.
Nope, listen to Jeremy carefully, he said clearly that he took all morning to get ready to take on the Mercedes. Lol. That's what he said!
Blaming on Porsche for killing Paul Walker is like blaming Boeing for 9/11
This is the most brutal and most savage thing I've ever heard
+Colds Not to mention the most honest.
+Snoop Doge Or blaming guns for school shootings.
+Snoop Doge it is a very beautiful car but very weak and dangerous so i think we can blame you for its weakness?
+ Abdul Rashid Abdul Mutalib why paul walker carrera split in half how many super sports cars did you saw splited in half?
honstly i dont know if it is weak but i know it is very dangerous car so what is the point of it if you have to drive it so slow?

The Carrera GT will always be my dream car. First time I heard the engine scream going past us in an F40 around Austin I was just done. Best sounding car ever imo.
you've been in an F40?
you've heard a CGT pas by while in an F40??? where do you live and how much do you get paid
@servissop151 lol west Austin and was an ex girlfriends dad's F40. We were driving over in the Westlake Hills just west of Austin. Tons of Uber rich out there. Not uncommon to see one of the few Bugatti in town out there at car meets.
That’s because the sound of V10 is like no other, it’s why the V10 era of F1 was the best and fastest in its history…

This will always be the golden age of Top Gear for me--can't believe so many years have already passed, I'm getting old!
Sunday nights, 8pm! My siblings and parents weren’t into cars, but there was always at least one family member watching it with me.
I remember the LFA episode with Richard Hamond not long after - the car blew me away! The editing was god-tier, matching the Japanese engineering excellence exhibited in the LFA. I love that car too to this day.
I think this car produces the best noise of any road going car, bar none.

Funny, that people are saying that porsche carrera gt took paul walker's life. Cars do not take peoples lives, it's the drivers.....
Do you also claim that guns don't kill people, people kill people? Because I have a news flash for you. People with guns kill people and drivers in cars kill people. The tool is equally as important as it's wielder.
@@David-ud9ju Guns can protect lives if used by the right person. Just like the Carrera GT; if driven by the right person it won't cause an accident

This is the only time Jeremy Clarkson said nice things about Porsche 99.9% of the time. This is also one of the best reviews ever.
Francis Marasigan III silicon carbide-😳
He knows they are the best but for him they are Germans and that’s why he can’t help himself.
But with this car even his biased opinions and reviews couldn’t handle the sheer greatness of this machine
Ben Collins (The Stig there) said this was the most exciting car he ever drove on the Top Gear test track.
That is true. He confirmed it in an interview saying it was the best car he'd ever driven even if it wasn't the best lap
The styling is timeless. Absolutely gorgeous car, up there with McLaren F1 and Pagani and Koeningssag. Hypercars
The CGT, the last great analog super car. RIP
Jackisaboss1208 Noble M600. That's an analogue car, check it out.
Xavier Capela He didnt say that CGT is last analog car he said it last GREAT analog super car and Noble M600 isnt that great...
UncleanerBullet It's his opinion, I think it's a great car too.
Xavier Capela It has a Volvo engine...
It's a volvo engine that has 650hp and can hit 225 mph, how many supercars from today can do that? I understand people's opinion about this car, but I do like it.
By far the best sounding and best looking Porsche in my opinion.
Americans will sue over anything. The CGT is infamous for its edgy handling and the guy was speeding. How can the walker family sue porsche for a fuel tank that leaked after the car wrapped around a tree pretty much.
Seriously?! Try slamming a Nascar broadside into a tree and see what happens.
+MoabMan There is a limit to how stiff you can make the car to be. Especially for a side crash where there isn't much crumple zone at all. Even if they make it extremely tough then people would die at low-speed crashes because of the brutal acceleration. That's why cars have crumple zones. If you want to crash at high speed, then you put a roll cage.
Dude if you know a little bit of physics, no safety measure can save you after 60mph crashing a huge tree. Moreover, supercars need to be light to give the performance. The engineers kill themselves for saving a gram or two but you say that they should put all the heavy stuff for safety...
+Hakan Karakurt Indy cars, NASCAR's, etc. they crash all the time at high speeds and the driver walks away. yea it adds weight, but what's more important? a little faster 0-60 time? or safety?
They have cages dude, you are right. And they are driven in an controlled environment where tires etc. used to slow the crashes down. These cars(NASCAR etc) don't have stereos screens anything etc. . So I also think you are right safety is important and I was really sad about Paul but you know if you really don't want to risk your life don't drive like a racer in a road made for transportation. Go to a track or something. Yes I love F&F like movies and the way they drive in the streets but it's no good in real life. If you happen to kill someone in an accident it's unbearable and if you die it's the end of story.
Even today it still looks timeless. Beautiful
OMG Clarkson liked a Porsche!!!
1 in 1000000 years
That's the last Porsche they made that wasn't derivative and ugly.

@@David-ud9ju Sooo true. Thank you for saying it.

Who else laughed at "germanys precise railroad table"?
probably every german who's watching this ...
haha snibsnab :DDD
What makes this so German is the fact how we are handling this. If the train is 5 minutes late in Germany, we are all busy talking about how the train is late. In a lot of countries nobody would even care about 5 minutes.
If there is a meeting in Germany and you are not there before the appointed time so the meeting starts at the appointed time, you are late. In some other countries you would not really consider coming before the appointed time.
Having recently lived in Switzerland for 2 months and commuting daily in and out of Zurich I must say that Swiss trains/trams genuinely are on time. The clocks in the stations start counting the negative seconds and then minutes if the train is late and in the trams where you can see the drivers dash the large digital clock turns red when the tram is running behind. Great place.
When he squirms at Silicone Carbide 🤣
I drive an MR2, and lift-off oversteer is truly terrifying... and I've only got a tiny Inline 4 behind me. I can't imagine having the weight of a humongous V10 perched in the back. Every time you take a corner, the transfer of weight caused by lifting-off the throttle will turn that monster engine into a freight train of inertia, pulling the car out of the apex and thrusting the car into a ruthless spin of centripetal force. You really have to respect the CGT to drive it.
Fuck I wish I had an MR2, brother…

How is a 911 disgusting?

Well isn't it supposed to be the successor?
Sadly no, over 50% is cayennes in sales :P

Green Back i would actually rather have the carrera gt, but i wouldn't dislike the 918 either.
but i only have the money to own a volvo 945 at the moment
the one:1 is a way faster car, no doubt about it. and the Porsche 365gt is a freaking beutiful peace of art. however, i do not agree with you that the Shelby is a good looking car, it is just a mustang that is insanely rare, i would say that the AC/Shelby cobra is a way better looking car.
but i still stand behind what i said. that the Porsche Carrea GT is the most beutiful car ever made imo. (imo stands for in my opinion)
Nicolas Broszky and this is why there is so many different cars, everyone think different about the look of cars.
i personally love the look of a good ol' station wagon like the volvo 945, 745, 245 and 145 i like the boxy shape and the practicallity they offer in an affordable and fun package (RWD)
the porsche carrera gt is one of the last greats, it has a manual gearbox and rear wheel drive. it's v10 has a sound that comes right from the roaring tepths of hell. and i think that the styling is simple and eligant and it looks like it should be really aerodynamic.
i can't understand why all the supercar manufacturers makes their cars to be automatic only. it is freaking boring to drive an automatic. you should have 3 pedals and a stick shift. and i'm not the only one that thinks that way. ask most petrolheads what their prefered gearbox is, automatic or manual. they will answer manual.
Nicolas Broszky true that.
To be honest - I only came here for SILICON CARBBIIIIIIIDE 😂

the original tyre supplied with this car made the handling very unpredictable at the limit, but apparently if you fit these with more modern tyres the GT is safer and more predictable. I believe the car Paul Walker was driving was still fitted with the original tyres and those tyres were overdue for replacement. Not Porsche's fault. It was the owner's fault for not maintaining the car properly.

Can’t blame the GT for Paul’s death. There’s nothing wrong with the GT. We are all imperfect drivers and the GT doesn’t forgive mistakes. Honestly, if anything, owning one should make you better.
Not to mention the fact that the tires were ancient. I've only got 146 horsepower and my car is RWD, but my 7 year old front tires are starting to scare me because I know how bad the grip is
I'd be honoured to die in such a good looking and sounding car
80%AshamedOfYou knowone is blaming it?
@@syd9969 There are some old comments here which are doing that. They've since been drowned out by all the people saying what he's saying
In all reality the opposite is true. If the limits of the car are so high and the breaking point of the chassis is on a knife’s edge, then the only way you know you’re making a mistake is when you’re inside a wall or around a tree.
whats with all these Paul walker comments?
1- a car will only go as fast as you want it to go
2- i'm guessing the car crashed traveling far faster than the speed limit, so how can someone blame 'the car' for crashing? if they went around the corner at the speed limit they would be fine
3- if they hit the same tree/pole at the same speed in say a Ferrari, i'm sure the outcome would be the same
every one makes mistakes however, so RIP Paul Walker, Rodger (driver) and my heart go to both families
Finally someone who understands
The GT Paul walker was a passenger in had dry rot tires. Bad tires caused that accident. The tires looked new and no one knew the tires were dry rotted. Just a bad accident that happen to be in a Porsche.
Porsche says to change tires every 4 or 5 years with their cars, I think. (One or the other, forget which.) The tires on that Carrera GT were 9 years old. That, and it was being driven twice the speed limit.
Craig J no it they were in a ferrari they could’ve survived because ferrari’s have traction control and stability control. The carrera Gt is not a safe car
@@kiranbabu5403 It's only unsafe if the operator doesn't know how to drive it. Most people are shitty drivers. Fine. Don't buy it, you pampered, incompetent little baby.
Something about it being extremely difficult to drive makes me like this car even more. In an age where cars basically drive themselves this car certainly stands out. Sad it acquired the stigma that it has now but in my opinion we need more cars as RAW as the carrera gt. It makes the driving experience that much rewarding.
I think it's because there can also be beauty in things that can harm you, and there's also a mix of being aware that the CGT can kill you.
Apparently, Rodas (Paul Walker's friend) is the sixth owner of that fateful Carrera GT. That is, since the newly launched in 2005, the red car has changed owners in six times. The fifth, Indy Car racers and collectors car, Graham Rahal.
He said, the Carrera GT is a car that is hard to control. "I often drive my cars and it has become a habit. Every car that I have always often used, but for which it is quite rare, and one which I rarely drive, "said Rahal. - - - Autoweek -
Hey, if anybody in 2021 is wondering about the first track - it is Easy Muffin by Amon Tobin. Great track taken of from the internet a few years ago due to the copyright issues. It's been used at least twice on TG, another example is a road test of E60 M5. If you happen to find an MP3, keep it on your disk, it's hasn't been so easy to find one.
You could also find this track on series 21 episode 4 when james reviewed the new (at the time) caterham 620r and the 160,but it's not that long...unlike the one we got here in this CGT review clip

Oh wow, I did. I just randomly stumbled across this video. Well, the Carrera GT just broke its original Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time from 7 minutes and 28 seconds to 7:12.69. The time shaving was due to the fresher and gripper Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. Well amazed that this behemoth still lives up beyond its expectations, especially with its scorching V10.

Why is everybody blaming on the Porsche? As Clarkson said you need to be really aware when you drive this beast. Maybe Roger went comfortable thinking he could handle it and don't get me wrong. This would have happened to any other professional driver like Roger. A human mistake that sadly took away Paul and Roger. I still like this rare machine.

Porsche built this car with the intention of being a challenge to the driver, much like the Ferrari F40 and the McLaren F1. Low weight, manual transmissions, a shit ton of power and a lack of electronic driver aids (F40 and the F1 don't even have airbags) made these cars respected and feared. Only a very skilled individual could drive these cars, and there's a chance they'd still mess up, and it makes me extremely sad knowing that's what happened with Paul Walker and Roger Rodas :(

Its so incredible to hear how they talk about the car before and after "modern" technology. For example he talked about the clutch weight and the brake material. With the 918 they talk about the hybrid technology and how it brilliantly employs its ungodly amount of power. Cars from this era just seem so much more visceral.

When Stig spins this thing 4 consecutive times in the hammerhead, it's easy to understand the Walker crash. "This thing is a pig... make a mistake, it bites your head off." Reckon that crash wouldn't have happened in the Merc-McLaren. Porsches have traditionally required great skill to drive fast, but the current ones are completely forgiving. Wonder how manageable the 918 is, in contrast to the old Carrrera GT.
Judging by the comments. Paul walker killed this car. Not the other way around
U speak the truth my friend
Paul Walker wasn't even driving
Yeah, Paul's daughter sued Porsche for that. Her attorney went on to say that the Porsche Carrera GT is a dangerous car and shouldn't be allowed on the road. That's just such an insane argument to begin with. That car is fast, no doubt, but you aren't "obligated" by it to go 200 kmh in the city. It is perhaps more dangerous than a Prius, but not dangerous enough to be illegal.

The Porsche Carrera GT, has been out for nearly 10 years I believe, and it is still my favourite Porsche, and favourite car of all time. It looks gorgeous, and the V10 is gorgeous.
20 years now!!! Still remember seeing it, at its launch in December 2003 at the Dubai Auto show.
i knew i'd be reading about paul walker if i scrolled down. hahaha
At 4:49 is probably what Roger Rodas did. Lost control because apparently it is not an easy car to control. Especially if you lose all power steering.
I suspect the car slid to the right exiting the right hand turn, hitting the pole ripping the left side of the car while knocking over the pole and rotating the car to the left. Causing it to hit the tree with the right side of car and appearing ripped open on the left.
more like 6:25
and apparently it was leaking before it crashed could have been steering fluid that drained out on the way to there accident.
Once Porsche get their design to look good, they make it look completely insane and elegant and they make the car lovable like they did with the Carrera GT and the 918 Hybrid.
This is the first video from Top Gear that I ever watched; it was 2004. It hooked me up and I watched the show until the historical trio was there (2015).

LMAO! People scared of a car. If I had the money I'd definitely buy one, and this whole Paul Walker thing and lawsuits and CGT hating commentators here are the reason I really want one.
The car's not "dangerous," some people just can't drive, even if they are "professional race car drivers."
If the tires were 6 years old, and he goes driving fast like that, then that tells you how "professional" he really was.
The Mind of Sorin evenn worse "9 years"
Paul wasn't driving, btw
The Mind of Sorin No one said the car is dangerous. It is simply difficult to manage at limits, and this notion alone can be correlated to the factor of "danger" as a consequence. There's a scale on how difficult a car is to drive. It isn't as simple as you say it is. To own this car you don't need any kind of special "professional" certificate. Therefore anyone who buys it and pushes it without any experience on public roads are taking great risks one way or another. And it's not "some people" can't drive. Majority of people can drive, but not push a car and manage it at its limits. Many people with performance cars get reckless, and I can bet that everyone did at some point without any track experience. As Clark said in this 2008 video, driving this Porsche is like sitting on a knife's edge, which simply means that on a scale for any driver (professional or not), based on all standards of a driver's qualifications, this car is more difficult to drive than an average performance vehicle.
Paul Robert amen bro
they were idiots for driving that fast.
IndyCar driver Graham Rahal was the fifth of sixth owners of the Porsche Carrera GT owned by driver Roger Rodas. "The Carrera GT is just harder to drive, and I drive my cars a lot. Nothing that I have will not be used. Every car that I have will be driven a lot. I have two cars that are old that don't get used that often, but that is rare." Rahal compared the Carrera GT to a 2010 Ferrari 599 GTO. Some of his observations and his descriptions of how difficult the Carrera was to drive are chilling in light of the crash.

I remember watching this youtube video in 2008 back in my senior year of high school. My oh my the time flies, but this car is timeless...
That Porsche was so good. It was so under appreciated
Doug Demuro now owns one of these
Why cant we have more awesome cars like this with manual transmission, that gearstick looks like so much fun and that interior looks so good and that noise, all of it is perfect, im a go murica cars guy who loves classic muscle cars but this car is near the top, if i was to have a supercar this would be it
I remember when I was a kid and this car came out, I instantly fell in love with it, thought it was the best looking car I had ever seen. Now 18 years later a couple weeks ago I was cruising down the highway and 3 of these past by me. One of them shifted down and floored it.. it was the best sound I ever heard! I still have goosbumps.. deffenetly my dream car!!
A car which demands respect!
This is a wonderful car by one of the greatest car manufacturers in the world. Paul Walker could've been killed in any car including this one. Just because Germany has a lot of haters these days it is not a valid reason to blame the Carrera GT nor to incite people on boycotting German cars. When pilots overestimate their driving abilities then people die, and that's exactly what happened. R.I.P. Paul Walker!
"Money doesn't buy you happiness" yes it does.
Money doesn't buy happiness but it certainly can buy things that make you happy 😁

Man, old school Top Gear had some charisma to it. The edits, the music, the narration, I see why they ended up with 350mil nightly viewers towards the end.
0:26 That's the music from LBP!
but what's the name?

This is how hard this car is to drive. Even the stig had difficulties with it.
Adrian Lee That's basically the problem of all high-end sports cars.
@@Stryke607 Nope even if you're in a newer generation Supercars it'll be much easier to drive compared to the CGT because it's still counted as an Analog Supercar without all of that tech and assists we have now.
The design is timeless. Gorgeous.

First top gear segment I ever saw back when this exact video was freshly uploaded to UA-cam 16 years ago and I was hooked
We’ve been blessed to be along for the ride all these years
I can remember watching this episode when it first aired in the UK way back in 2004. The good old days :(
Doug Demuro approves this video
What's wrong with Silicon Carbide Jeremy? You seemed to like it on the Mclaren P1
this video was done may years ago
he was creaming his pants every time he said it
Hans Wurst actually it's the opposite of that, you have to realize this video is over ten years old. when the carrera gt came out, using silicon carbide in a road car was ridiculous. he is in love with it.
TickleMeShlomo and you got 69 likes
Kampfhund this was before the p1
Anyone notice that the song used from :26 to 1:28 is a song from LittleBigPlanet?
Prodigy playing in the background was more than an appropriate choice love it
"It's as perfect as Germany's rail time table"
Boy that didn't age well
"The handling, you really are on a knife edge".. ...the rest is history.
Jeremy: "this is a supercar unplugged"
Roll credits.
I tell you what,
That carrera gt is astonishing,
And the sound is up there with the LFA,
Brilliant in every way!
That sound of car is awesome ! :)
