- PJ Drummer David Abbruzzese (1991-94) revisits his drum track from the Pearl Jam song Breath. Originally released as part of the Singles movie soundtrack in January 1992
Dave, the guys from Drumeo should invite you to the studio
Best drummer and groove for PJ ever! Incredible control and breadth, PJ never sounded the same after Dave left the band.
They are doing just fine. ua-cam.com/video/yO2FzVvA3TQ/v-deo.htmlsi=wVhDBBSHbkW2uAQl
I agree.
As long as you ignore Jack and Matt then yes, he's the best.
100 percent.
I couldn't agree more
The 'If I knew where it was I would take you there' line always gets me.
Thanks for the video, Dave!
"Blood" is some of my favorite drumming of all time of any genre of music. I listen to it before I clock in at work. On the other hand, "Breath" was and still is a different kind of animal.
Man… I just love your style man!
Thank you, brother! Right back at you! Your videos are a master class in badassness!
Without a doubt the best era of pearl jam, its rhythms are unique and its skill, strength and ability made perl jam live concerts unforgettable, majestic, something totally magical.
Love it! Thanks for doing these old PJ songs. You are the Best drummer they ever had.
Dude...this is a masterpiece. Breath, State of Love and Trust and Seasons (Cornell), are my favorite tracks on the Singles soundtrack. Breath and State along with the other avalanche of stuff that Dave A. put out there at the time made him my favorite drummer...to this day.
Always made drumming look so cool, it’s fun and effortless and flows like liquid downhill. Chad Smith gives me the same internal smiley feeling, it’s infectious and inspiring when you can feel the fun come through in the playing
Dude, first off hello! Drummer here and huge fan of your playing! you did those songs off of Ten so much justice! I was and still am blown away at how much better those songs sound with you and only you playing them. I’m still also blown away why you are not behind that kit, but that’s none of my business. Anyway breath was always one of my fav drum patterns of yours, an amazing song where you can block out everything and just listen to the drumming, so thanks for actually posting this I cannot stop listening to it! Also, I too want to hear this same thing done with even flow, that is by far the best remake in history! Thanks for your time and keep continuing to crush it Dave!
Thank YOU! I appreciate your kindness and comment. 👍😁
Dave can you please make a video of you playing Even Flow, I’ve always loved the way you play it. You bring so much energy to that song.
This is LOVE to see. Some of my favorite drumming of his in that track
That was Dave Krusen on the recording of Even Flow on Ten….
yes but they rerecorded it for the music video and its abruzzese playing it@@lostrhino73
That's right. DA's version of Even Flow is peak drumming. Unmatched.
@@seth_1138 Yep, they had two versions, of which initially was Dave Kruzen and then the best version was with Dave A. So much more lively and bouncy. Even the vocals were way better.
Still rockin in his 50s
I like how the camera shakes every time you hit the snare drum. Really cool effect. Hope you'll do a breakdown of your repetoir on Drumeo or something. You've certainly inspired plenty of artists during your time.
Wuuuaaaauuuuuu que tremenda cancion gracias Grande Dave Abbruzzese Grande
Mr Abbruzzese is a great drummer, since the 90s he used ghosts, doubles, amazing fills in the songs! Composed Daughter and I hope the playthroug here! Cheers!
2nd favorite pearl jam song. love you dave. youll always be my favorite pj drummer.
Yeah buddy!
Breath 🤘😎🤘
The best drummer for pearl jam...has the touch and musicality and edge ...much respect to Dave Abbruzzese....thank you for all the great drumming and inspiration❤
Hi Dave! I always wondered if I would say something if I ever met someone from my favorite bands, and honestly I could never figure out what... however, this channel and your approach to it - and the simple way you reach to us mortals - told me I should be simple as well and just tell you how important to me Pearl Jam was when I was a teen in the 90s and how it was the beginning of a very good friendship with music and the discovery of it.
The albums you play in have something about them in a way that I feel like they are recorded in a live take, which they're not, and they shine that way. There's a flow you don't feel much these days, and I love it. Music played with the heart in the right place 🤟
Breath was probably one of the first "pirate" songs I heard from you guys and it holds a specical place in my heart.
Do keep rockin'! For you and for us!
Thank you
* So excited to write here that I forgot to mention how your playing still influence the way I play drums 😂 But yeah, details...
Awesome. My favourite PJ drummer .
The drums are almost lyrical. It's not just a back beat, there's no much dynamic in each stroke. It's always a pleasure to watch these videos and to get to fully appreciate Dave's drum parts!
The drums isolated are awesome to listen to, and somehow I can imagine the exact lyrics throughout this song after not hearing it for years. “Anything anything at allll”
Such a huge inspiration on my drumming growing up! I remember getting Pearl Jam's no code and I listened to the first side took the cassette out cracked in half and threw it out the car window
PJ was never the same. You are a such inspiration. Do Last Exit, please!
Yes, please do Last Exit!
Yes def last exit
Better yet WMA! Boom
Okay, just discovered this channel! Dave, like many other fans, you are a personal inspiration and I hold you in such high regard. I didn't just listen to PJ, I studied the music and specifically your style and phrasing of each song. As a teenager, I was devastated to learn of your firing.
I wasn't old enough to see you play with PJ live. By the time I discovered PJ and saw them in concert, it was with Jack Irons. He butchered those songs. Sure, there were a few notable tunes that came from that era, but nothing came close to comparing to the songs during your tenure and how you elevated their material.
PJ was never the same, and I have not been able to bring myself to listen to them anymore, as it's left such a sour taste in my mouth. Thank you for persevering and creating this channel of content for yourself and your fans. You will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
Heck, after watching these, I might even start listening to those old tracks again. Breath, Alone and Dirty Frank were my favorites from you. I've always felt they best showcased your unique style, distinct from any other drummer, especially in the grunge scene.
We love you Dave.
Would love to see you do Rearview Mirror on one of these.
Dave...Pearl Jam never sounded the same without you. IMO the Pearl Jam that I loved died in August 94.
Great job on this song, can't wait to see more!
If you are taking requests, I'd love to see WMA or Rats please and thank you.
Well said jb
Definitely, the bestest PJ ever died in august 1994. Buuut I still like a lot of their things made after that. BUUUT I hate when cameron or irons play thinks recorded by krusen or abbruzzese. It simply sucks.
@@Guilhermetmfranco No, it doesn’t suck because Eddie is still singing it. The guitars are the same. Dave is great, but it’s just drums.
Why can't I do more than "like" this video?! Why can't I "F**KING LOVE!" it!? I'll keep on saying it Dave, your kick drum foot is just so unbelievable. Just makes those grooves feel like immovable objects...
Thank you!
One of my absolute favorites with Dave. I love playing this song myself on the drums, but can never nail it like Dave. The grace notes on the ride and high hats are soooo good !
The splash he adds after the high hat!
Will Love to see Alone drums! 🥁
👻 notes are 🔥
Always loved how airy this sounded with all the ride and hi hat and cymbal stuff going on.
So much power and controlled flow. A bevy of ghosts escaping from that smoke tight snare.
Bad ass! I can hear Stone’s Les Paul playing those octaves now 🍻
my most fave from You with PJ !! please, add the original audio ! killing track
Listening to this song over the years I always pictured the drummer like coming off his chair during some of these fills and stuff cause how super high energy that song is, of course dave makes it all look easy and chill
I fuckin love these. Well done Dave . We love you man.
Sounds Awesome Dave 💪🏼🥁🔥💯
Bravo! I’ve always thought that song exemplified your playing from that era more than just about any other. Also, I can’t get enough of that snare!
Soo good!!! 😀😀😀
Keep ‘em coming
One of my absolute fav’s. This song got me started on my journey. Thanks, Dave❤️
One of the best PJ songs along with STATE!
Absolutely insane groove. So damn heavy! Your drumming style has always been a favorite of mine!
Dave, This is why I Love your Genius in Songwriting. Perfect Example. It's So Not Typical and Extremely Interesting while maintaining a Great Flow. Inventive and Original. It Totally is what made your involvement in PJ the best period of the group. As a guitarist playing along to this how can you Not be able to come up with Great guitar ideas as a result!?! Simply Inspiring. Amazing Amazing Work Man... --Jason ✌🏻&❤
AMAZING
The best PJ drummer ❤
One of my favourite drummers of all time. Heavy hitter, plays with feel and groove but his meter is right on point.
Thank you for these, Dave. You are sorely missed playing with PJ. Keep rocking on.
Man.. This is surreal, insane. I always dreamed of seeing you playing one of Pearl Jam's songs live. for now I'm happy to watch it on UA-cam. Thank you
Best drummer of the 90s
I've always loved "Breath," it's amazing that you revisited it. And of course, it's amazing like always.
Love it! Love ya Dave! Awesome to hear these songs
Great as always Dave, Thank you!
So good to watch and hear the power of your grooves. You can lay down such a sick drum track Dave.
FANTÁSTICO.!!!
Thanks again Dave, this is magic. I know its not your thing, but you would be an amazing person to feature in a Drumeo video, like the recent Chad Smith one! So many signature parts that have put a smile on many faces. Would you consider it?
How do we start a Drumeo campaign 😂😊😊
What a groove Dave - keep them coming! 👊🏻
One of my all time PJ favourite tracks. Single OST so good.
Thank you, Dave.
These videos are great!! Thank you for posting!
Back to pearl jam :")
brings back memories. i love that groove. them splash accents, so cool.. and use of a single kick. its great
El alma del viejo Pearl Jam, inspiración para los que empezaron a tocar batería por ver a Dave Abbruzzese, inigualable. Bravo!
Power, groove, pocket and finesse.
I LOVE these!!! Keep them all coming!
God that intro groove is sooo smooth bro... Love all the ghost notes and finesse on the hats... Once again thanks for the inspiration in my early 90s... You were a huge inspiration....Thank you D..
🤟😎
My elation cannot be described in any language other then ❤
hey dave!! i'm an 18 year old drummer with a little under a year's worth of experience. i think it's awesome that you interact with fans on the internet! just wanted to say that you're one of my main inspirations and I hope to one day be as creative and smooth as you on the kit! :)
Ill never get tired of your uploads Dave; thank you for further insight through the years. Its motivating as fuck to see you still killing it when sometimes I want to quit and Im barely 22!!
Thank you! I've been there, absolutely! Sometimes it just gets hard to find the reason to persevere. But we do, don't we? All the best to you. Keep on swinging for the fences!
@@FreeAssRecords waking up to a reply from you was awesome, as a lifelong fan your style will always hold a place in my heart. I genuinely hope one day the bs is left behind and we get some form of that group again. The passion in your playing transcends time and age ridiculously. Much love always
Love these revisits. Can you do Blood or SOLAT please? Thanks for all the drumming Dave! You’ve always rocked hard and remained dynamic!
Best damn musician hitting a drum kit for these guys, Pearl Jam... That is a musician playing drumms to make other musicians sound equally good. Which is very rare!
What an absolute monster. Love you Dave !
He's such a BEAST 🔥 🔥
lo mas esperado del año... gracias
Don’t stop Dave.
VIVA Abbruzzese!!
One of my favorite PJ songs!!!
Thanks for uploading Dave! This is one of my favorite songs by Pearl Jam, soooooo cool. Love your drumming man. Thanks again
Ridiculously good.
Dave it's a groove machine
Levada show de bola muito bom
Always liked Dave's groove on this song. Also on 'Dirty Frank' and of course the re-recorded 'EvenFlow'. The classic PJ sound right there!
Probably my favorite PJ song..definitely top 5
That was awesome Dave
❤🥁👏
I love how on the original recording it slowly fades out with you all shredding,
and Mike doing a blistering solo over the top of your manic roll 🎩🎸❤
I would have loved to hear that in its full entirety.😎✌️
Singles is one of my favourite soundtracks.
Awesome Dave, you're my biggest influence on the kit, I just love seeing you play, it makes my day everytime! Much love from East Yorkshire in the UK.
Bravvviiisssiimooo
Thanks for uploading this Dave. I stated being a PJ fan back in 1993, with the VS album, however were I lived still Ten was released and known. Now listening to this track, which appears as a "B" side for the Evenflow sessions i notice a similarity with the track Bonzo's Montraux, from LZ. It probably means you, as it were back in the days, were also a big fan of John B. Thank you for sharing this, a couple of years ago i learnt the song to play with my band, obviously i missed a lot of licks.
Great stuff Abruzzese the Italians just do it best
Outstanding performance Dave, perfect! 😎💪🏻
So good ❤
Id love hearing you do "Alone"... amazing drummer, Pearl Jam was never the same without you
You would, eh? Well, here you can find it! Enjoy.

@@FreeAssRecordsPS: Just a little sugestion... It would be great, if your chanel would have the "Thanks" button, so your fans could support your content. You know something like "buying you coffee" kinda. 🙃 I'm not familiar how this works to be honest, I saw that on others chanels .. just think about it 🤟 It could be great way to appreciate your work. There are money some of us didn't feel like spend on PJ albums since you were no longer behind drums, you know 😁. Just saying...
Left this bass player stupefied... Thanks! much love you brother!
Great overhead view to see what’s going on with this badass groove! I didn’t know until now that he was hitting hihat with the left hand in between playing that ride pattern! Awesome!
Can't wait for W.M.A.! Thank you for this Dave!
