- Pearl Jam's "Glorified G" was inspired by a conversation the band had about guns after drummer Dave Abbruzzese bought two for a hunting trip. Dave is from Texas, and he and Eddie Vedder have very different views on the subject. In his Songfacts interview, he tells his side of the story.
Full interview is here:

I love Matt Cameron and Jack Irons. But Dave Ambruzzese will always be the machine that drove Pearl Jam for me.
So glad Dave is finally speaking out. It confirms everything that I already believed about these condescending pretentious A wads
Yup
Backfired on P.J. they were never the same after kicking out Dave.
They still have a cult following, but they are woke now.
@@rickstalentedtongue910 They're a joke now, coffeehouse leftist blowhard community organizers who fired one of the best drummers of an entire decade.
F pearl jam!
Did you not listen, they always were.
@@williamh3845P.J. Unplugged turned into a liberal feminist talk towards the end of their set.
@@williamh3845 No, Ed and Jeff always were, because they are globalist NPC's. Dave was not, so he had to go. Ed is an industry plant, he is there to push the agendas handed to him and make sure the rest of the band is in step with it. Dave owns guns, the horror!
PJ is one of those bands where their debut album was the best and it went downhill from there.
A lot of people think this guy played on it too.
Dave Krusen is a kick ass drummer.
@@danlc95 Kruzen is the second best drummer after Dave A, but I hear you.
@@rickstalentedtongue910 - After who?
@@danlc95 After Dave abbruzzese
Vs was their best, then Ten, Vitalogy would have been there best had they not sabotaged it with those two non songs, Bugs and Heyfoxymop. They could have put two songs from the lost dogs that were cut from the first two albums instead. Edd has control of the band and too much influence, took their balls away, the balls were known as Dave A. Still a great band, Ed and his butt boy Jeff are the snakes that diminished the band.
Dave, forever but you and only you ..... Pearl Jam will forever the band with you. Für immer. Danke. LG
Now is a better time than ever for Pearl Jam to reach out and have Dave perform with them during the upcoming tour. If only at a Texas show for a few songs. They need to do it. Especially for the people that pay the ridiculous price for tickets.
If Dave rejoined them, it would last for a week, and his reputation would be stained by even trying to reunite with those sellouts.
I would love to hear the whole interview. Is it anywhere?
Im going to see pearl jam this summer but Eddie and his opinions are not one size fits all for a free country. I wish he would shut up sometimes!!!!
He cant. He is controlled, souled out, and he must repeat the party line. Because he is a good guy, of course.
@@rickstalentedtongue910 I sold my tickets on StubHub
Eddie really sounds like he was incredibly full of himself. Passive aggressive small man complex.
He’s an a-hole
He has always been about image. A real douchebag fake.
PJ's first three albums were their peak if you go by sales numbers. Ten 15.7M, VS 8.2m, Vitalogy 6.1m, the rest are below 2m. Imo, VS was PJ's high water mark. The follow up for any band's debut that breaks out like theirs did is always tough. VS nailed it. Even Rolling Stone said that VS topped their debut. Dave gave PJ a more hard rock sound which I preferred. Would PJ's sales have declined as much had they not fired Dave for liking their recording facility for VS and for buying a gun or other personality conflicts? We'll never know.
That's very true: I stopped listening to Pearl Jam after their 4th album, they became very boring.
those were the reasons given.. not the real reasons… they couldn’t say the real reasons, because it would make them look bad
I lost interest after virology
Classic hard rock was their style. Ed softened the style, took creative control which was given to him because he is the industry plant, and I suspect Andy Wood's death might have had something with making way for Vedder. Edd joked in a concert, which is on youtube, that Andy died so he could be here. Nobody laughed but Edd. "Many a true word hath been spoken in jest....
you should watch the MTV Pearl Jam show that never aired, here on UA-cam. Dave Abbruzzese OUTSHINED, the whole band.. EVEN Eddie Vedder… DON’T EVER, OUTSHINE EDDIE VEDDER… or you WILL, get fired… that’s the kind of egotist Eddie Vedder was, at that time… notice how they settled with a drummer who simply… plays the drums… B.O.R.I.N.G. … give me a REAL DRUMMER… like Stewart Copeland, Neil Peart, Sean Kinney, or Dave Abbruzzese… LIVE, THEY ROCK THE SHOW !!!! but then… Eddie Vedder wants to be the center of attention… don’t think that was the reason they fired Dave Abbruzzese?? you might be surprised. this stuff is real. it happens.
Eddie should start a band named “Eddie and his Ego”. How about “Eddie and the LedVedder’s”. Or maybe “Eddie and The Virtue Signalers”. Finally, “No Holier than Vedder”.
How about, Eddie and the globalist sock puppets.
Dave deserved to be treated better. Comparing him to Dave Mustaine is ridiculous (not even close). I disagree with the idea of him being replaceable and not being intelligent or in-depth as other PJ members. All this could have been resolved.
the issue is, in the PNW, they are so pathologically depressed, they'd rather use the gun for violence against themselves or others, vs. someone in Texas who will use it to hunt or for protection.
I heard that in Texas guns are often used as sex toys. Just guys dressed up as cowboys plugging each other with .44 Magnums.
Y'all are weird, man. But you truly take that " it's bigger in Texas" to heart, though.
Those are big revolvers, man.
Used to admire eddie . But the more I learn about him he comes across like a real phony kind of guy.
Ya think? He only loves his celebrity partners in crime, hates the slave class he performs for. I think he is trash.
Kurt was a gun guy. We can only what he might have thought about that song? Only weak song on that album really. Great album.
Kurt was murdered. Glorified G was not a weak song.
That’s interesting. Vedder ruined a great band. Not just for firing Dave, he took control of the band and their music started to suck. Ament, Gossard and the other guy are just 3 sheeps. They got their money and have remained silent to their master.
👍
So agreed..boring & neutered..amazing talent but Vedder came in & the rest with a history..too bad about Andy Wood, with him Mother Love Bone was a much more interesting band..Ten is a fantastic album but after that it’s anti rock star, boring, political noise
@@dannybursace9151 Versus was a great record.
Yes
@@dannybursace9151 Did you know...Somewhere on youtube, there is concert footage, of scumbag Vedder, cracking a joke about Andie Wood Dying so he could be in the band? If you find the footage, note that nobody laughed but Edd.
Dave is an amazing drummer...one of the greatest ever and diffinatly the best PJ drummer ever, but he diffinatly doesn't sound like he is on the same level of intelligent or depth as the other members of PJ. Maybe it just as simple as Dave not being on the same page as the rest of the band. It's a shame, but it is what it is...
Eddie and Dave should have just had the fight and got it out of their systems, the two of them just don’t like each other. Unfortunately for Dave he was the replaceable one so he had to go.
If they fought, limp wristed Edd would have been trounced, and the balls of the band known as Dave A, would have helped them find a new singer. The band would have remained rock.
I dunno, I think it could’ve gone either way. I’ve always got the impression Eddie could handle himself in a fight 🙂
@@KaylaHiggins92 Maybe, I am just being extreme. Love the band, but there is more that goes on in this sick industry than most could imagine. Edd has always seemed like someone who puts on a front of being a good guy, when actually he is an industry shill and a sellout.
This comment is the best. It’s just the simple truth. Two personalities that clashed and they just shoulda met at the bike rack at 3pm to air it out with their fists.
Dave A. is the Mustaine of the grunge world.
Ha!
PJ were at their peak with Jack Irons. Matt Cameron 2nd, Dave 3rd.
No way. Dave a was the best drummer they ever had.
@@christophercanter3425 I disagree but I respect your opinion.
Jack Irons??? 🤣🤣🤣 Your funny....
@@paolo-n2000 Listen to No Code and Yield.
They peaked creatively in the mid-nineties. Yield(with Jack Irons) was their last great album. The post Yield releases are pretty forgettable.
So ridiculous.
