- Along with the new Inferno, in late 2016 the SAS models in CS:GO received an overhaul. Strangely, the polycount hasn't increased that much, though we have got higher texture quality and lots of fun wobbly bits to play about with instead. In this video, I investigate.

Oh, and in real life they're not just Scottish, they're more of a British Special Forces unit, but they were founded there and they all have thick Scottish accents in-game.

Source's player models were and always will be the best CS player models no matter what. Especially the leet crew ones with his very intimidating stare through his sunglasses.
His eye shape and skin tone actually make him look scottish.

Huh, the CS 1.6 model is sporting a left handed mask, which is weird because my dad complained about right handed filters are uncomfortable for left handed shooters

Wouldn't that be because everyone in 1.6 was left handed? Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't really know 1.6 well enough but I'm sure this is the case since the AR-15s were strangely charged via the Forward Assist, a device on the starboard side.
Okay, I'm bored and know about those gas masks they wear, so here we go.
The mask itself is the SF10, special forces/ police variant of the S10. The S10 itself has served the British military since the 80's and has only been replaced recently with the GSR. Other countries that use this mask/ variants of it are the Australians and the Pakistanis, who have their own special variants.
CS Beta: Too low rez to see what the mask is really like.
CS 1.6: The filter has random lines that don't make sense, but besides that, not too bad for a low poly model.
HD: Exhale valve (the part with the circle with three spokes) looks weirdly long and the lens aren't reflective IRL.
CSS: Worst mask yet, looks more like a Canadian C3 with weird mods, the SAS always use tinted lens outserts because of their use of flashbangs, plus they look intimidating, the port at the side looks like a weird drinking port off of a Dräger mask, and those ridges look silly.
Old CS:GO: That cloth hood is real, it's a fire resistant hood made of rayon I think, the SAS did also use them, so this mask is very accurate to the real kit. Also the red paint around the filter would mean it's a tear gas only filter/ a training one, which makes sense if they are using tear gas, but is insane if their enemy is using any real chemical weapon.
White CS:GO model: There is no white hood, but there are red laser protective lens for the SF10 that are red, so that is true to life.
New CS:GO: Mask looks weirdly wide, straps are too wide, and most importantly, wearing a hood under a gas mask renders the mask useless. It creates a gap in the seal around your face and allows contaminants to escape in while you breathe.
So there we go, hope someone liked this look at the gas masks.

I think the CS go character is wearing a FM12 with a flash hood, and the last one a S10 and not a SF10, why ? because there is not a dual port for filter but only one to the right and a voice membrane. and finally i think the last model with a S10 is pretty acurate , but not the straps as you said (protips: I've got both gas masks irl)

those opaque goggles on the gas masks are special forces exclusive anti flash lenses when raiding buildings it lessens the blinding affects of flash bangs massively and are still used on the ct-12 to date. the newest gas masks are actually very realistic with the anti flash goggles so it is a hint of realism not a limitation in the graphics. hope this helped! :)

The "ctm_sas_variante" was probably planned to be used in snowy maps, like Austria. But lately abandoned...
I know this comment is 8 months old at this point, but valve didnt make Austria, nor was Austria even a thought in its creators mind back when the old sas models were made, in fact non of the planned snowy maps that were cut were going to feature the SAS, they either had the swat team or the GSG-9.
@@Scrum_Master_Revolution but unfortunately, the GSG-9 have been slowly dying out
each update they're replaced with an FBI team, or SAS. they're not favored by map creators either, as so few maps take place in Germany or a German country.
with your help, we can stop this. by playing on overpass once every play session, you can help extend the lifespan of these old models and hopefully get them a revamp for CS:GO's next operation

I think there were plans on introducing the player as the commander of the sas squad and for him/her to have the white sas to be different and unique, I'm saying this because there are unused voice lines saying "commander down" or "we've lost the commander"

Im pretty sure the Combine Elites are the Synths weve never seen that devastated earth and its military in 7 HOURS, this is the Overwatch Elite, the soldiers stationed on earth.
I like the HD cs:cz model the most, because I grew up playing cs 1.6 with hd pack that was included after cs:cz was released, and because of the smooth grayish googles.

Well, this didn't aged well... twice.
I think I prefer the Condition Zero one. I like the fact that it has a helmet but you can't see through the goggles. Makes it feel more like a badass soldier than a power-plant worker who just happens to pack heat at work.

It is Brittish. I think that 3kliksphillip made a joke about a certain SAS stereotype which is Scottish, a stereotype they use in CS:GO, so all of the SAS troopers are Scottish in CS:GO. It is true though that the SAS was founded by a Scottish nobleman.

The reason why the goggles are opaque is because in real life the goggles have a special film to help lessen the effect of flashbangs making hot breaches easier and lessens the chance of a lead getting blinded.
