Just barely touch brake and continue hitting gas. The brake pedal has travel before it works. But itll turn lights on as soon as switch is activated. Need maybe .5 inch of travel for breaks to turn on light, need about .75 inch of travel to engage brake pedal
This is a good idea. When u leave ur car you kill the rear lights from turning on. If someone steals ur car there is a higher Chance of the person getting pulled over for no rear lights or brake lights. I have 2 stealth kill switches for my vehicle preventing a theif from starting the car. Having a kill switch for the lights sounds cool too.
+Jacob Lane - Faelo 1. i pulled the ignition fuse out and inserted a wire in each hole of the empty fuse spot and connected the wires to a stock fog lamp light. my vehicle did not have fog lamps but i bought the switch that comes in the same vehicle with fog lamp options. the only way to put electricity into the engine is to "turn on" the so called "fog lamp" button. a theif would try turning on the fog lamp before starting a car. 2. i disconnected the starter and rewired it to the cigarette lighter. so the key will not turn over the engine but you will still need to turn the key foward to acc then press the cigarette lighter similar to a push start vehicle. no extra buttons, no hidden after market switches. all factory parts just reused in a smarter way.
This method also works for completely disabling traction control on cars that have it. Also works on cars that do not have an off switch for lights to shut them off with the engine running. You’d be surprised the amount of things you can do on a car with a bit of wire and a toggle switch.
There's so much I wanna do but being color blind and dyslexic I gotta be extremely careful because I know if you do one small thing wrong your cars junk I'm trying to do something research before hand till I feel comfortable enough then imma try it
Its so when you brake hard at night, you don't give yourself away, when its dark, brake lights reflect on signs, the road and scenery behind you, its a dead giveaway you saw say a cop and braked hard. It can save your ass especially if you spot the cop first. Brake hard to limit, and flip it back on, so your lights work.
Cool video. The point why police vehicles can disable the brake lights is when arriving on dangerous calls, the brake lights don't give away the element of surprise. The "black out" switch as its called up here also doesn't allow the vehicle out of park for safety reasons.
Here in los angeles the sheriffs have the black out or creeper switch and they are not very surprising with their brakes having the high pitch squeal when they brake... lol..
@ducvietboi if your running from the police on the highway, you can cut your lights out and floor it and duck down a dark exit ramp being able to use your brakes without giving away your location. It has worked for me more than once. This is common practice and has been for a while. The police do it as well..
The car still has it's driving tail lights on when the headlights are switched on though, right? I mean, Does this kill all the tail lights regardless of if the headlights are on or does this only kill the functionality of the tail lights getting brighter along with the third brake light illuminating when pushing the brake pedal?
Just break the circuit at the brake switch at the brake pedal. Save you a lot of wiring. Yeah some higher end cars or newer cars will set a warning. Volvos from the mid 80s and up have brake light failure warnings.
That's always good tho because it would act as a reminder to turn the brake lights back on when you're done doing whatever. My 1983 6000 STE also has a light function monitor on the dash.
When my uncle is watching poachers on his ranch he prowls around with the lights off and just uses his parking brake to slow down or stop. Just a easy gradual pressure. We were stealth mode watching from a hill all of them in their trucks spotlighting for deer.
I would like to apply this idea to our 5th wheel. Would like to be able to "flash" the marker lights at night when I pass someone who flashes me it's ok to move over. Most Semi's have this feature, and I think it's call an ICC light switch. "Interstate Common Courtesy" Our 04 Class A RV had this switch built in from the factory. All that said, can you come up with a switch set up like that?
I've heard part of the reason for such a thing is to slow down without giving a visual indication, i.e., a wild cop appears and you want to slam on the breaks without telegraphing you're desperately trying to drop to the speed limit. In this case, wouldn't one just be able to give a light yank on the parking brake? Not enough to lock up the tires, of course...and you'd wear the brake out if you did this often, but would that work for the occasional 'OMG CAHP!!11' moment?
hey man i need help doing this on a 2018 silverado, you still around? my brake light sensor has like 4 wires coming from it, id like to just interrupt the ground with a switch but im not sure if itd work on my truck, thoughts?
Hi. I don't know if you check these comments or not, but I wanted to give this a try because it seems like a fun little mod. I looked under my steering wheel area and I noticed that there were two brake light assembly switches: One for the regular braking and another for the power breaks. I was wondering if you know which set of wires to splice: the one's immediately above the brake pedal, or the power brake ones (which are higher and require more pressure to be applied to the brake pedal). Thanks!
Great video, but is there any way to install a cutoff switch for the rear lights altogether? not just the brake light but also the rear lights when the headlights are on/reverse(possible?)
does it kill tail lights while headlights are on? trying to figure how to totally kill all power to taillights so they're off with headlights on or off, on my ST.
hey can u help me. i have a 99 civic my headlights turn on but everything else dont turn on. but if i put tthe signals they work or my emergency lights they work or if i press the brakes they turn on but just like that normal only headlight
Except the switch behind the peddle usually has something to do with your overdrive engaging and disengaging. After its all said and done and you have the new switch hooked up and you hit the toggle switch killing the rear lights its going either shift out of overdrive and not shift back into overdrive until you complete the circuit again, or vice versa its going to stay in overdrive and not shift out when you need to be in lower gear. It wont downshift at all until the circuit is again complete.
Back in the day I used to bait cops to chase me by tapping my brakes and jerking the wheel driving past them. ONLY at night and if they were parked by the road clocking or camping. Every time they took my bait Id floor it and try to not hit my brakes until im around a corner. Then Id get 100ft from my driveway, kill the car and coast downhill behind trees slowing and stopping using the E brake. Then get out walk up hill and watch the cops drive by. It was fun to do sometimes on the way home from work.
Hey I got a 2007 ford p71 that has that switch but now my brake lights won't even come on I keep flipping the switch still nothing is there anything I should try
The brake light module on my car went out and now I have to flash my high beams to get them to come on at a stop light (dual purpose light's so the board that works for high beams still works) just have to flash them to high and flash to low while holding.. Only way I can get the light's to come on... The brake light module is only $65 but it's in my dash and you have to remove a good 3/4ths of the dash to get them and every place has quoted me $1000+ just hoping to run a current to them from the battery with a push button...
After checking my brake lights on my 00 civic dx I've ;learned I can't have the part on my truck be my brake lights they can only be the running lights :(
There is a big benefit, especially with chases. I recently had the situation of passing a cop with 200kmh on 3 lane road. (80kmh speed limit). It was dark and saw it in the last moment it was a cop car. I just turned off my lights (it was 2 am) and floor it even more. I ain't stopping. From now on I have brake light switch as well, because if I decide I want to run away of the cops, believe me it would fucking help me a lot. I drive a powerful car as well, so I get stopped by the police quite often as well, and I do have illegal exhaust (upgraded turbo back with no cat and valves), but it is quite quiet in the low rpms. So far I haven't had my exhaust tested, but I am pretty sure if they do an emission test I will fail it on spot. (I bribe my annual technical tests for plates, so that's how my car is 'legal' on the road).
Where I'm at all the police cars have working brake lights, maybe unless it's in surveillance mode, but even then I believe stepping on the brake activates the lights

Just adjust your brake light switch so that it engages before you actually start engaging your brakes
