While i did find this excellent tutorial, as a new car DIY guy, i didnt know the name of this method so it was very awkward to search. Luckily the algo came through with this suggestion...
Lol as obvious as it was I had the same issue 😂
Glad the algo helped :) I have no idea how else to name it to be more new diy person friendly. Any ideas?
I Learned so many things in just ten minutes. Thanks a lot, you're great. Greetings from Greece.
Hei thank you for watching :)
Without a doubt the best tap down demo I've seen.
I've got a dozen dents on my car and I'm about to see how difficult PDR is. I feel much more confident on tapping down having watched this video.
Good luck. It’s not as easy as it looks I can tell you that 😌
Это очень сложно

tap down is a critical skill, i learned since my first few repairs i actually had a few little spots i puushed up, cant be scared to tap down after :) just create little dents basically but push back out after.
You are right. Tapping down is as important as pushing up!

Great tutorial Zan
Thanks buddy :)
Extremely cool I have a 2019 ford ranger and I put a dent in the back door with my shoulder trying to rock the truck because my door was stuck on a cabinet in my garage so now I’m going to try to fix it myself after watching your video you know they just don’t put the metal in these cars like they used to
Yes metal is much thiner these days then it used to be. However I must warn you that fixing dents is much harder then it looks so be careful as you can make it worse and harder for someone to repair it later
Excellent
Thank you :)
Hi!! If you have a high spot and a sharp one, you can knock it down and at the same time press and hold it from the inside with a plastic ball !!! The result is easier! Good video!!! PDR is art!!
Hei. Thanks for the advice!
Gracias, haces parecer lo difícil fácil
Thank you
Nice
Thanks, you make it look easy! I thought you use a blending hammer after knock down based on your hail storm videos, but from this looks like no need
Thomas Pongrac blending hammer comes in to play on rails and occasionally on other side panels. I never use it on top panels
@@vidicz ahh thanks, I never knew. I'll try this out as soon as my PDR light arrives
Thomas Pongrac cool. Let me know if you need any help 👍
@@vidicz thanks bro 👍🏿

Greetings from Turkey. I discovered your awesome videos channel. I am a teacher in Turkey. I love these jobs and I am interested. Great explanation thanks.
Thank you Harun. Greetings to Turkey
@@vidicz Is it hard to learn this job? I have very good dexterity. In my country, you can earn a lot of money from this business. I trust myself on this topic. But I have no experience. Where would you recommend starting? If I were close, I would definitely like to learn from you.
Great video 👍🏿
Thank you!
Nice information
Thank you much appreciated!
this is the most informative video on the subject i have seen so far thank you. however you may want to work on your mic and music volume settings i had to turn my speakers up to 60 to hear you when everything else i listen to on 20 and at that volume the music was a bit on the loud side...lol but otherwise a great video
Yes I know about the sound issue. I think I got better in time with it :) thanks for watching and the feedback 👍👊🏻
Make sure the tap is thin

WOW--- Amazing man. , Great. How could you do such thing , surely not easy as looks. Thank you for share how to do it perfectly. Jakarta-Indonesia learn from you.
Thanks buddy. Greetings to Jakarta!
Dobar video.
Puno hvala!
I,m confused with the two main types of pdr boards , fog vs line board, i have both but not sure which one to use , i pull to paint at the moment because i can,t finish the micro high and low spots but very keen o learn, many thanks Mr Zan, lee U.K . good day
Hei Lee. I prefer fog over lines, but its what you are used too
Odlican video, hoce li biti jos ovakvih?imam zelju da naucim oko PDR i do sad ti si najbolje objasnio.
Hvala. Imam jih više na youtubu
Great video, I learned allot. thank you. Maybe you can lower the intro sound, which is way louder than the video itself.
Thanks for the suggestion Michel!
Could you do a tutorial on light board positioning please
Great idea. I will keep it in mind when I get back to working
I bought a PDR kit years ago. I tried pushing out a dent but it wouldn't move one bit. After that I got kind of deflated. I never intended to make it a career but just wanted to accomplish it for my own satisfaction.
I do still watch a lot of PDR videos on youtube just for the enjoyment but this video is the only one I've seen where you get close up detail of what is going on. Credit to you for that. Maybe I'll go back when the weather is better and try again. Subscribed.
It sure looks much easier then it really is. A lot is also about the tools you have. Anyways thanks for subscribing and if you will have any questions when you go back at it feel free to ask.
VT don't give up. Keep practicing you'll be a master one day!
@@christiansustrina5672 Cheers mate.
Do you have a link on what tools you used? I cannot find good tools to do PDR with. Amazing video!
Hi Christian. Where do you live?
wondering where is a good point on the crown to start tapping down. in the middle or the edges f the crown and how hard to tap.. appriciate the help..And thank you for all of the info.
Hi Robert. Sorry for the late reply. I always start tapping down the crown from the sides.
When you are tapping, it would really help us beginners if we could see how hard you are hitting the tool, to get some feel for how gentle, or hard, one should be....so far in the video (tapping down the sharp little bumps), I haven't seen the method of opening up a dent, to make it better to glue pull...
I would recommend always start with gentle then add more force if nothing happens.
Started 6 months ago with a 4 day of pdr training, using only the white knock down with the magnet at the moment.
Ordered a ATP knock down hammer to try.
I like your video's man hope one day i become also good pdr guy.
Ps: how do you ''clean'' the tip of the knock down? mine is making scratchs
You will get there! It took me 1 year to be able to fix a car...acceptable quality and slow pace. Having a 1 on 1 training can greatly speed you up.
You can clean the tip by using some sanding paper like 1500 and then 3000 and buffing it afterwards.
@@vidicz Thank you i will try.
I practise every day 1 hour after my work, most of the dents are almost not vissible if i sand it a little and buffing it up
Hi Zan. I have used a glue gun to pull out some dents I had from walnuts but now I have raised dents on the top of my car. Would I need to use larger tips for these dents? And more force when hammering since they're a good size?
Do the dents look like a volcano now?
@@vidicz yes
on my hood
Do u heat up the panel to make it malleable before you tap down? thanks!
Hi Mark. I never heat the panel to do a tapdown.
Can you do a video of tapping down the crown first before you pull out a dent please
Good idea. I will keep it in mind and next time I have a repair like that I will record it
You make it look so easy :(
With a lot if practice and right guidance everyone can make it look easy :)
If you had perfect access to a dent from the back of the panel or from inside the car, would you tap it down from the inside or still massage it out with a rod?
I would push it (massage it) with a rod. Some people do tap it out from inside the car. Most commonly is this technique used by Brazilians.
Your information is excellent but you don’t need the background music.
It makes it a difficult watch
Thank you for your input. I guess when trying to teach the background music is too much
Hello, wich brand knockdowns and tips are you using in this video ? Thanks
I am using the firing pin and peewee from dead on dent tools
@@vidicz thank you Zan, your jobs and videos is great
Good work. I would like to see you do a deep door ding repair showing the tool tips, etc . Did you win at mte competition? Thanks
Thanks. Yes I won the recent Orlando MTE competitions and the PDR World Cup.
ua-cam.com/video/_Ci2F991NSA/v-deo.html
Something like this?
No I was talking about a deep.ding over stretched showing the tools and your technic Thanks
On a flat panel
Excellent video! I see you prefer fog over a line board, why is that?
Fog is preferred in the industry and I learned on fog
what tips were you using? what kind of hammer do you use? why did you change tips and what were the tips made of?
I am using dead on dent tool tips. A hammer is something light, nothing special. A paddle would do just fine! I change tips because different size gives different result.
What is the name of the device that you use at the beginning of the video, the dent puller, but air
Hi. It's not pulling the dent out but it's making the dent if you mean the one in the intro?
Brilliant. How hard are you hitting the tap with the hammer?
Thank you. It all depends on what you need to tap down, but start with less force and add as needed
@@vidicz Thank you. 👍
I created a few lo's with the tap down.. Hitting it to hard I'm assuming..
Great Video ~
Yes. You are hitting to hard. Push the low spots now.
@@vidicz
Will do , thanks for the heads up.
Do you think a wider , more flat surface tip is safer for a rookie in pdr ; compared to a pointed knock down tip?
@@reza_dc2 the wider the high spot is, the wider the tap down should be 👍
Last week my van was hit with hail and the insurance paid me a lot of money to get it fixed, so instead I bought a few pdr kits and working on the dents myself and already got paid to take my time and learn how to make these dents go away. This video really helped. I have used hot glue tabs to get the major dent out and now I have a smaller but still noticeable indent and I am going to try to knock down the crown around the edges and see if that takes the tension off the metal
Great. Glad that you were able to make them go away and glad that my video helped.
Nice Im learning pdr and every time I push out a dent it seems like I make a crease my 2nd week training
Good luck on learning PDR. You need to start cross checking to get rid of those little creases. They are normal, you just need to get rid of them
What hammer did you use? Also when would you use a hammer vs. paddle? Thanks
I have a hammer I am used to…it’s basically a hammer for tiles :) works good for me
Oh and Paddles are also good…its about what you get used to
Thanks for the very best videos.
But please, please, skip the "music".
Please.
Without the music it would be boring and dull to watch. I am sorry if you dont like my selection of music, but in that case you can always mute.
@@vidicz
I promise, most people looking at this is interested of what you are doing, and the sound of what is happening could help to understand and also give a good feeling of what is happening. No, nothing dull in your exellent videos. Just interesting. Thanks again.
Who makes the tap down that you were using? Thanks
The tip itself is from Dead on dent tools. The carbon tapdown is from Druz toolz
Hi, what is the tap down tool brand. Do you have a link to purchase it? Thanks
The tapdowns are Dead on dent tools and are sold by Anson.
Where do you get, or what tool are you using to tap down? Thanks
Any PDR tools store should have tapdowns.
Hello. Which tip do you use 3:50 and which at 6:02?
First one is called the peewee from dead on dent tools and the second one is from the VIP Tools. Don’t know how is called exactly
@@vidicz Thank you Zan, but for now this PeeWee tip is sold out at all shops
Do you always pre-warm your surface with a hot air gun? Will I ruin the paint if I don't do that? I have a dent in my door and want to try this for the first time....
Hi. No I preheat only on really sharp dents. If you have a more valuable car I wouldn’t recommend doing it by yourself...if you want to learn the trade then get some of the tools that are worth your money and start practicing on scrap metal panels 👍
@@vidicz It's just a10 year old fiat 500 ;)
I like fiat 500 :)
@@vidicz Yeah it's fun to drive and I am a tall guy. Ok but now in the kinda freezing temperatures its still probably not a good idea to do it right? THe dent isnt that sharp but goes on half of the passender door. Swiped a post :P
I mean if you just want to try to save your money then don’t :) you will end up messing it up and spending more at the end. It’s much harder then it looks :)
If you want to actually learn to do PDR then I suggest getting a scrap panel :) save your doors for later :)
what tool you are using Sir? and where to buy that?
Its a tapdown tool which you can buy in any of PDR tool stores around the world
I tried this on the exact same kind of dents at 3:47, not sure why but could not get the dent back down. Middle of sliding door. After over an hour, the dent was still raised, but the entire area sunk low still with the dent in the middle. 2006 Dodge Caravan. Maybe the New reinforced Steel I've heard of?
Was it maybe a brace underneath and it was pushing it up all the time?
Hi I need some step downs can you organize for me please am in Kenya and it's difficult to get them here, will appreciate.
Hi Steven. You best way would be to order them online
DO YOU HEAT THE METAL WHEN DOING THIS ?
Hi Rick. No need to heat the metal when taping down the smaller stuff.
To hammer with a stick of glue, this is familiar to me. One person in Lithuania, then showed me.
Of course :) Kaz itself :)
Tapping down a crown with a glue stick is killer tip. I watched videos for a week. Got the terms tools and some techniques. I watched 3 hrs a day. I have a large scrap sheet metal pile including hail damage hoods. I am having huge problems with this. I can’t give up. What do I do next. Thanx Johnc
Sorry for late reply. I had knee surgery and was recovering. What are you having problems with?
@@vidicz hope all is well. Thank you for taking time to reply. I hope your knee is ok. It takes a wile to recover for sure. I have taken some time off. I started to struggle and struggle. I have put it to the side for now wile my Bodyshop business is very busy now this time of year. Thanx again Zan. Take care. Johnc
@@johncrossley2150 no worries. Glad to hear bodyshop is busy and running 👍 If you get back to it feel free to ask if you need help 👍
Hi Zan Im a begginer. You showed different tap downs but you used just one tip. What kind?? Is it peek tip with flat end??
They are from deadondent tools. Great material and shape
@@vidicz ah ok so ballistic. I got one👍 the smallest😄
@@pak5119 Yes and the best one is the peewee...the smallest one and most precise!
@@vidicz yes I got peewee too.
Thanks for reply master👍
Hello i need like this stuff what way i got
Best to order online in some PDR store
Any site for a pdr kit? That doesn’t break the bank?
Check out my 1000$ challenge video. That’s for A1, I will have other 1000$ challenge videos coming out
👦👌🔥
Thank you
Often I use a metal knock down and blending hammer
I rarely use a metal knock down. Very rare occasion
What happens if you tapped too hard and put tiny dimples in the metal? Not on a car, did glue pull/tap down on Stainless steel instapot dent
In that case you have to either push it or glue pull it again. However, since the dimples you made are so tiny they will be super hard to glue pull. You would need to open the dimples up and make them bigger more shallow dents in order to glue pull them, but the best option is to push them back out with a rod
@@vidicz Hey thanks for the reply! I got them semi flattened out. I just did a glue pull on my stainless steel fridge and am trying to knock down some high spots, they're nearly gone but that section of the fridge still doesn't look 100% flat just yet. Thinking I'll need to touch it up a bit more
I remember father ted doing this😂😂😂😂😂
hahahah yes he did a number on it
Have you made any videos of the theory of where to hit the dent to pull it out? I am not 100 percent sure where to hit the high spots and where to push on the dent. What do you do different with a sharp dent? Can you define sharp dent?
No I haven't made any of those videos yet. A sharp dent you must hit the center first while on a soft dent it's not a must to hit it.
hi,everyone i really need to learn this profession i'm from brazil can someone help me?
Hi. Well there are many different ways to learn as you can see in one of my videos. How do you want to learn?
