Man the graphic evolution of this course is outstanding!
I am very ok with this. Not so overpowered and it'll take getting used to, but I'm fine with this :)
IDK how anyone plays with Outside drifting anyway lol
I'm one of the rare people who plays with outside drifting since I timed them very well on certain corners.
I liked outside drifting. The Wario Bike is my go-to on the Wii.
I never understood how anyone could use inside drifting. Every time I used it, I'd ram into the inside wall. A huge chunk of the bikes were completely useless to me. Maybe I just didn't take the time to get used to inside drifting, but outside drifting always felt more natural after playing other Mario Kart games.
garfreeek Yeah. Inside drifting was literally broken (as in overpowered) lol
Basically when I started playing mario kart, I used outside drift and couldn't inside drift. After I practiced inside drifting, I can't even outside drift effectively anymore.
Im sorry, I was to busy comparing the beautiful graphics of Mario Kart 8 to Wii to notice anything you were saying...
Well, if you look closely at the playermodels, to me, it looks just like Mario Kart Wii models(on my TV playing). Everything else is great though.
Mario is slimmer in Wii.
only propaganda... watch they new tracks like snes Mario circuit, justo Tour ports 😂😂😂😂
What made Bikes really broken was the Wheelie. As a Kart user u were screwed on linear courses or...pretty much on every course because the mini-boost was even by a short use something you coldn't catch up.
According to the Direct the Karts now have a advantage on more linear courses and drifting the right way you dont even have difficulties to catch up with Bikes.
lol i was acctually really good with kart i used funky flame flyer but then i got boerd tryed kart and felt unique as i was in rooms with full funkys and i did quite well i used raslina flame flyer daisy wild wing and baby luigi concentro it made mkw much more fun funky was boring so in that sense i found it good that mkw has wheelies cause then karts had a muh bigger challenge and if you do well you fell better bout yourself :D
"raslina"
as much as i hate correcting others, this spelling error really pisses me off XD
it's "Rosalina"
TherókMSM just ram the bike that’s doing a wheelie, but is it that simple?
Forget Inside Drifting look at that graphics comparison!
Forget graphics look at the gameplay!
:D
Irvinrod8 Yeah MKWII is WAY more fun.
Bert O Bop not really especially with the Items
Mitchell WARRICK normal 8 sure 8 deluxe not at all.
@@godli6063 Not much different other than battle mode
Maybe NOW THE PRO LEGIT ROOMS WONT BE FUNKY KONG ON BOWSER BIKE BUT DIFFERENT CHARACTERS ON DIFFERENT VEHICLES
I don't know why, but I have a feeling that Roy will be the new Funky Kong. Hopefully not, because it is annoying when lobbies are filled with just one character.
Yeeeeaaaaah, that's why i don't really pick him or daisy anymore, I just be original and use my mii
Don't forget about Metal Mario. XD
Lol you're in all the wrong rooms then, I usually get different characters on different karts... the new pet peeve is item rape.
most people used the mach bike with daisy and the flame runner with funky kong
I just can't get over how sweet the graphics look in this game, only 3 weeks to go now!
Thank Sweet baby Jesus!
In my hometown, a local coffee shop is holding a competition! Can't wait...to lose! :D
Plasma this is mario kart 8, not deluxe smartass. just look at when this was posted
***** same here lol, I guess it has to do with mario kart in general
Still neat
god damn it youtube. I thought it was deluxe.
YumeGipsu and I insane drifting(Mario kart ds)
I checked, it's the same in Deluxe. Didn't even know inside drifting was sorta-in MK8 until just now, although looking at the footage I'd say there's no doubt that inside drifting is in the game.
I always look for wii u tutorials but their always deluxe
Have people already forgotten about the new ATVs? All I see are conversations on Karts and Bikes, but no ATVs. They're not the same as Karts at all and is a completely new vehicle class with unique attributes and stats just like when Bikes were introduced in Mario Kart Wii. I for one would love to see some information on the new ATV vehicle class and how it plays against Karts and Bikes, other than the obvious thing that it is better off road. For example, we can have a comparison video of the three different classes in several different situations and terrain. There is one other thing I want to know. In Mario Kart Wii, originally 50cc was Karts only and 100cc was Bikes only in the beginning until you beat all 8 cups in the respective cc, I hope this isn't the case again?
Interesting, now that you mention it I kind of want to see a comparison video as well.
it's so weird!
i played mario kart wii for like... A LONG TIME and i was so good at it! And then i played mario kart 8 and everytime... i hit a wall XD
and thus we have established balanced bike drifting.
yay, we no longer have so many records set by damn bikes.
I'm pretty happy that wheelies nor inside drifting is back. Now if you want to have a chance at winning you don't HAVE to chose a certain type of bike. It seems as though they've really balanced it a lot more this time around, especially with the Blue Shell's nerf, along with it being blockable with the horn item. All these things excite me because I love playing Mario Kart competitively.
***** He might be talking about the Super Horn, you can get them in first place...
Drackos_Flare ***** The horn, yes, but I'm also talking about how if you pay close attention to when the Blue Shell hit's in GameXPlain's videos, you can see it doesn't keep you from driving as long as it normally would in past games.
? Blue shell has been dodgable since at least mkw
Double dash and ds had dodgeable blues
lol you could dodge blue shells in mkwii
I was recommended this video and thought "oh, are they adding/keeping a new feature to Mario Kart 8 for Switch?"
When he got the Wii comparison up, I thought it was weird, but passed it off as "Oh, I'm sure it was just removed on the original Mario Kart 8". When I got to the halfway mark, I checked the date the video was released and everything made sense... thanks UA-cam for recommending me a two/three year old video...
lol
I really like how this new drift system works, honestly since I didn't really experiment with bikes I never knew the difference between inside and outside drifting despite hearing it all the time by competitive players.
"With Mario Kart 8 just around the corner-" I see what you did there...
So many comments about bikes being overpowered in Mario Kart Wii yet I destroyed everyone online in the standard kart.
Sure you did, bud.
Me too, but with the Daytripper.
I enjoy the Tiny Titan (Rally Romper) and its ridiculous bouncing and barrel-rolling factors. Most inside-drift users never get to see an underused vehicle like this leap onto its two wheels whenever it takes a bump or drifts too sharply... ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ
Hmm, interesting. At least the wheely's gone (not counting the cosmetic one) so I really hope that I can compete with a Kart online.
A good player could compete with a kart in MK Wii, too. The bikes, even though they were slightly faster(less than a second faster in a 1.5min. race), they were also more difficult to control. They were behaving like something between a car and a boat.
***** Karts and Bikes looks really balanced in this game
4400seriesFAN No, for good players the Karts stood no chance. For casual races that may be true, but a Kart had a huge disadvantage in a room full of 9xxx points players ;)
4400seriesFAN It seems you really did not play online whatsoever. How many people out of the 12 players were actually using a Kart? Max 4. "More difficult to control" sure that's why most of the WR were players using Bikes.
Flame Runner/Bowser Bike and Mach Bike were just broken in MKW
*****
The WR have nothing to do with the races! The WR are being set after numerous tries and from SOME players, that you RARELY if not NEVER find in online races! The WR are being set in races without any opponents and items except 3 boosts.
They have nothing to do with how the bikes behave in a normal race!
Something tells me both inside and outside drifting will have different advantages depending on the track, much like how karts and bikes do now.
Outside drifting bikes will be able to drift through U turns
Inside drifting can drift inside narrow pathways more easily
Nope
@@callmerei I love how you replied to this guy 6 years later lol
Yes! Thank you for this video! This was honesty my #1 question way back when the first Mario Kart 8 trailer revealed the return of bikes.
I love the in-drift, but I used the bikes with the feature so much that it made it almost impossible for me to use any other vehicle (and really difficult switching gears in Mario Kart 7). It's good to know that in-drifting is back with a slight handicap that makes the initial out-drift feel natural, which should make karts and bikes more similar in handling and thus making switching between the two easier.
Thanks again!
Interesting. As much as I loved competing with others with pretty much all Flame Runner bikes back on the Wii, I am very glad they took out some of the empowering features of the bike such as wheelies and nerfed the inside drifting to actually make karts viable again.
Inside Drifting + Wiimote and Nunchuck controls = Win.
So glad it's back. I loved the precision of that combination
Your Mario Kart videos are the gr"8"est...get my "drift"?
I'm good with this. as long as I can use a vehicle like the Mach bike, I'm good with this.
Drifting in Mario Kart Double Dash was the best in my opinion. RIP, snake drifting.
I loved the handling in Double Dash!
***** I did as well! It felt very sharp and controllable. In Mario Kart Wii, it felt very..slippery-ish. You probably get what I mean lol But the drifting in Mario Kart 7 was alright.
I thought snaking was only in the ds version
+TumbleGamer it's in both
TheEyesofSorrow ikr
god this game looks absolutely gorgeous, can't wait to pick it up
Well, even if it is not exactly like the old games, I feel like sport bikes will STILL be the more popular choice for online play and probably for time trials too. :\
Only 30,619 minutes to go!
Hey Andre , quick question , how's the drifting mini-boost with bikes ? Does it charge up two levels(Orange Sparks) like with karts ? Or is it just the first level (blue sparks) like in MKWii ?
2-Levels
Awesome , thank you very much for clearing that up :)
***** Though in Mario Kart wii, you can wheelie whenever you want so it sorta evens out
Yeah, bikes are basically thinner karts with two wheels in MK8, where wheelies are just for aesthetics and they appear while you're getting any speed boost.
My opinion on bikes throughout the Wii and Wii U.
1. Inside Drifting (Wii)
2. Inside Drifting (Wii U)
3. Outside Drifting (Wii U)
4. Outside Drifting (Wii)
even 2 years later, this still helps me a lot
Great Video, not only does it show drifting differences, but it really shows off how good Moo Moo Meadows looks remastered.
This one leak basically said that inside drifting was back a long while ago (Around E3 last year) and said it was slightly changed. As well as a few other things which were correct. So that's why it was often requested to see. That same leak also said that Smash 4 would have 48 characters with 4 cuts from Brawl. It's a strange coincidence but if we add all the brawl vets (besides the 4 cuts) along with the current newcomers that would equal 41 and If both the Gematsu leak is correct (and is the rest of the newcomers) and Mewtwo returns from Melee then that would be 48 characters. Could just be a coincidence but if it's real then we know most of the final roster.
So the handling stat doesn't determine the kind of drift at all, it's the icon of bike on the screen?
And there aren't two icons for karts?
No wonder why I end up riding on Karts more than Bikes. Now that I know which bikes I am going to pay attention more in MK Wii/8, I will definitely keep this in mind! Thanks for the lesson André! :D
A fair few of your are forgetting the comparison made in the Mario Kart direct. The bikes were superior on tracks with greater turns but the karts were superior on straighter racks.
Wow. This video really shows off how beautiful MK8 is
Pretty informative, this should answer many of the bike user questions
Really hate the nerf they dealt the sport bikes, but I'll learn the Hang On Drift Wii U/Switch style eventually. I did love the Magikruiser, Quacker, and Bullet Bike best.
At least VS mode is back. I can actually play against karts too, instead of just bikes, bikes and bikes.
You always could. Just change the options.
I was talking about the high amount of bikes online.
I don't usually use bikes with outside drifting too much, but when I watched this video, the sports bike looked like it was first doing outside drifting, but it actually was sort of doing the inside drifting and I am used to inside drifting!
Jesus, next to Mario Kart 8, Mario Kart Wii looks like an N64 game...
Mitchell WARRICK I like the graphic of mario kart 8 but like the game play of mario kart wii.
Hey André, one thing I wanna ask. How is the sport bike with the monster wheels? Does it become a fully outside drifting bike or does it remain as a inside drift? Please reply, I really wanna know! :D
ok, what about wheelies with bikes? I've seen some of them but not sure how they work.
Wheelies do nothing now. In mk8 when you get a boost of any kind bikes wheelie, but it makes no difference in speed.
I like how with inside drifting Mario keeps his entire body on the bike and just leans in while with out drifting he puts his foot out and leans back.
How are the controls other than the drifting? Are they more similar to Mario Kart 7 or Mario Kart Wii?
For the first time it was very difficult for me to control the sport bike, but finally I mastered it. I really prefer the Mach Bike, it was pretty awesome!
As someone who's used to the sport bike in MK8 and just now trying the mach bike in wii, that initial delay makes a HUGE difference. The mach bike is so difficult to play with, even for me
the real question is,what about the wheelie on bikes?
Good thing is they brought half-inside-drifting back. Im so glad they did that....
welp, guess im gonna stick with my wii until they add back real inside drift and wheelies lmao, wheelies were what make mkwii so skill based in the time trial mode, you had to align yourself perfectly for the next corner in the split second that you were not in a wheelie after the mini-turbo
sooo basically the difference between hybrid and outside drift is that outside, its like both wheels are drifting but hybrid is just the back wheel drifting while the front wheel only turns?
Mario kart 8 looks beautiful honestly one of the most fantastic looking games ever
It's not the Inside Drifts that I was concern about. It was the god damn Wheelies I was pissed about in Wii, but that's Long gone thank goodness!
Damn Wheelies made Bikes way too OP.
Wheelies were good, just overpowered
everyone used funky and flame runner, there was no diversity lmao it just pissed me off so much like "cant you just pick someone else instead of using funky all the god damn time?"
They added so much more the the MKW game tho. It added an extra layer of skill that no other game has. That's why I love it so much
I always liked using yoshi dolphin dasher
Tbh, it takes quite a bit of skill to do well in 200cc, maybe not as much as wii (idk cos I never played mkwii), but there still is quite a bit of skill involved in Mario Kart. I'm also not seeing that many of the same character combos in 200cc (obviously there is going to be the best character kart combo for each track in time trials), so I'm happy right now.
Nice video Andre. I've been wondering if inside drifting would return in MK8 for a long time
i really like this change since the inside drifting in Mario kart wii and wheelies really made the bikes overpowered. although even with the drifting having a delay it still worries me that the sport bikes will outclass everything
Thanks for the inside coverage.
yo Andre, theirs something else I'm sure most of us are wandering.
What's is the Grip stat? Is it like the Off-road Stat in 7, or is their more to it?
Also how do ATV's in general handle?
Hey Andre, I have a question. So it looks like most of the people who have Mario kart 8, it looks like the downloadable size is around 4200 MB. Yet it's been confirmed that the actual game is 4800 MB. Could nintendo be hiding additional content like DLC???
Do the tires have any affect on this? Aren't there stats like handling, and traction, and grip? I assumed those stats would affect drifting a lot.
I was really hoping that inside drifting was gone >.> now i have to see many sports bikes online now T-T
Okay, regardless of how I feel about this, at least the question about the bikes is finally answered. Something else I'm curious about is if the characters will each have specific stat boosts to like in MKWii or if it's purely the weight class that affects the vehicles like in MK7 (and some other installments)?
EDIT: Looking at a site or two, seems like it'll work like in MK7. Though I find it weird that there's now a "Super Light" and a "Super Heavy."
As long as inside drifting is back I'm happy :)
***** Hybrid Drifting so technically it's back. Seems legit :)
I love how it goes from "Mario Kart 64 with better polygons" to "Are you sure this is not the PS4 ?"
I've been waiting for this to be answered for a while. Thanks.
the wild wing kart in mario kart wii had that same kind of drifting. it started outside, but then turned into an inside drift.
Hey Andre, aren't the tires influential on the drifting too? I mean, if you're using the Sport Bike with Monster tires, the handling will decrease and the angle of drifting will be larger, right?
Most likely yes, the Monster Wheels hinder your Handling + Acceleration.
And the Slick Wheels, while fast, will like lower your Grip badly that you'll slide a lot and lose speed while driving on Sand, Dirt, Snow, Ice, etc.
How many vehicle types will be in this game? Like is the standard bike and sports bike classified as two different types?
This is why I love GameXplain.
If you put the thin red wheels on the match bike, you get a nice sharp inside drift :D
Front Wheel Drifting is overpowered
Any one else notice that in the luigi footage the bike's wheel was covered with snow when on the snow? Neat touch by Nintendo :).
Come to think of it, traditional inward drifting from Mario Kart Wii kinda of breaks the laws of physics, because as you take a turn, the momentum wants to push you outwards. Or am I mistaken?
Great analysis Andre. This should come in handy when selecting vehicles. Did you notice a change in the drifting habits between karts and quads?
I checked--though not as thoroughly, and the drifting seems pretty similar between the two
***** Good to know. Thanks guys :)
***** Don't karts and outside drifting bikes drift more towards the outside than quads/ATVs? It's really noticeable when I switch to a kart or OD bike (I main quads/ATVs). ATVs are perfect in my opinion, since karts and OD bikes drift a little bit too much to the outside, while inside drifting bikes often have trouble on U-turns **cough*GBA Mario Circuit*cough**.
Ohhhh so that's why some bikes handle differently... I thought it's a matter of stats/parts
the differences in looks of these games are so real
Reading through the comments, I had absolutely no idea that inside drifting was considered OP in Mario Kart Wii. I still like the Mach Bike, though.
I think, I'll still choose the Inside Drift Bike. I don't know, I like their drift type and especially, their design. The Sport Bike looks so much better than all the other Vehicles in the game! I'll also choose the 'Comet' (Red Bike in the 3rd Trailer, Mario drove it) or the Circuit Special (OMG, a kart).
To those who are saying that the wheelie was the broken aspect of bikes in mario kart wii, explain to me why outside drifting bikes are just as bad as carts? In some cases worse? Inside drift was definitely the broken feature no doubt about it. Plus Karts had orange mini turbos to compensate and better weight and higher overall stats.
That icon is really going to help me I hated outside drifting in MKWii.
Thanks for the "inside" scoop.
True fact in the 4 way comparison the Mach and sport bikes were in the same position
Wow, I havent seen the wii version of Moo moo in forever.... wow
Nice video. By the way, was that supposed to be a pun in the description? With Mario Kart 8 JUST AROUND THE CORNER... when you just happened to be talking about inside drifting. ;0
Is manual snaking back? is it automatic like in the wii or do i have to wiggle the d pad to get the power slide boost?
I'm sure inside drifting, even being nerfed, will still outclass anything that doesn't inside-drift by a mile. I'm glad it's back, personally, because I love playing with inside-drifting much more. There's a learning curve where you have to learn to start drifting much later than with other types, but once you get the hang of it, it gives you a huge advantage.
I'm really curious to see which option will turn out to be the best one. Since inside drifting has been nerfed and outside drifting buffed, there should be good competition between karts and inside drifting bikes.
I'm placing my bets on Bowser + Jet Bike + Slick tires + Bowser Kite.
I hate using karts on mkwii bc of how they drift so here’s what I’ve found:if you drift with standard kart m on a long turn (maybe like the ones on toads factory) you can steer left while drifting to avoid hitting outside walls(same for steering right)
It's official, mario kart 8 is the most balanced mario kart in existence
I don't mind the way sports bikes drift in mk8 for the most part, but it makes it difficult to switch between the games and trying to use the same sort of vehicle.
If you can read the apex ahead of time then it will yield great results. The sport bike is better if you can hug the corners. The sport bike has better brakes so you can hit the brakes and carry corner speed better than a the other bikes but does require practice. So stick with a good racing line, hard break at the apex of the corner and ride that apex.
Dang didn't notice the big visual upgrade moo moo meadows got
Every time I switch between the two drifting ways it's never easy to adjust even though I'm good at both. For 200cc sport bikes are my favorite.
Thank you so much for this video.
I would suggest doing the next gameplay we see with racing with the sport bike so we can see the drifting in real action.
Mario Kart 8 - GBA Mario Circuit Gameplay (player point of view) good example of the inward drifting like bike
Mario must have super polished his hat. It's so shiny.
So you have just said it's basically back...I guess I'll still be using the sports bike(flame runner) and are wheelies back?
No wheelies. I also believe karts are overall faster, so not really op.
FINALLY!! The wait for this vid is over lol!
Two questions I would like to know: Is wheelie for bikes back? And will there be more characters?
No, and doesn't seem to be, unless there's DLC
I feel like bikes are gonna be overpowered again..
Well there wont be any wheelies this time, so for one, that's a start at least. The developers already explained in the direct that the karts and bikes are going to be very balanced. Remember, the days of Mario Kart Wii are over. That was several years ago now. Hopefully they've finally found a way to balance the two vehicles.
+ClubDevon remember that in the direct it depends on the course bikes are better at courses with lots of curves but karts win on straight aways
Yes i know that i watched every second of that but i still think they may be overpowered
I don't mind a bike > kart on some courses. But when the enitre game is dominated by bikes becuase of the clear advantage, it just makes it no fun :( I'm sure they're aware of it.
Yep, your right, since the bikes have been nerfed, they will be more overpowered than ever.
Game explain: The only channel where we can argue about Mario kart drifting
