I'm definitely guilty of wiggle drifting. I had no idea that neutral drifting was faster, and it kind of isn't that intuitive, either! Is it still faster even if you can build a higher tier MT while holding the more steep angles into your drift? That seems like the biggest weakness of this neutral drift method.
So in terms of actual movement speed, neutral drift > soft drift > hard drift. Not sure I explained this point particularly well, but generally on 200 if a turn is shallow enough that you can hug it tightly with a neutral drift, it's faster to do so than it is to wiggle and get the next level of MT (see the WR ghosts for sweet canyon and cheep cheep beach before the first underwater section) for examples. It's basically because the movement is slower, and the little wiggles have a much larger impact on your lines in 200 than 150. In 150 it's kind of the opposite in that if you can build up the next level of MT, then you generally want to try and do so. That being said though, there really aren't that many situations where you absolutely need to wiggle drift to build up levels of mini turbo, since soft drifting will generally work out just fine
Thank you for taking the time to make this video, I understand alot of it but not entirely but that ok because not that I got a good understanding I can practice and figure out the rest for myself

Does the drift counter start the moment you press the R button, or the moment your land from the hop? Basically, is delay drifting present in MK8DX? How do I play 200cc with other people? Most of my online races are 100cc.
OoOooOooOoh you think you're a real hot shot don't you, talking about delayed drifting. HAHAHAHAH See ya later DARSH! Sorry man couldn't resist lol. Also yeah delayed drifting is present in MK8DX too, but I honestly didn't even know it was a thing until after I made this video, but I did include it in the advanced tips and tricks video I put out a few weeks ago As for racing on 200cc with other people, unfortunately if you're doing regionals or worldwides it's more or less random. I think once you go above a certain VR you'll no longer see 100cc races, and instead get a mix of 150cc, Mirror, and 200cc, with 150cc showing up the vast majority of the time. However, if you want to race online against other people on 200cc, there's actually a tournament that's always open called "200cc World Cup [dZ]" (the d is actually a delta), and all you need to do is either search for it or put in the tournament code, which is 2697-4546-2827

This is super helpful, thank you!
If i find this informative? Damn right i did now i can peacefully learn the game knowing i know most of the stuff thanks!
i need to rewatch this and take notes on everything that was said
No wiggle drift, got it! (proceeds to realise life has been based around nothing but the wiggle drift)
I was so confused the first time I used a bike. I needed time to adjust my drifts.
Also yeah delayed drifting is present in MK8DX too, but I honestly didn't even know it was a thing until after I made this video, but I did include it in the advanced tips and tricks video I put out a few weeks ago
As for racing on 200cc with other people, unfortunately if you're doing regionals or worldwides it's more or less random. I think once you go above a certain VR you'll no longer see 100cc races, and instead get a mix of 150cc, Mirror, and 200cc, with 150cc showing up the vast majority of the time.
However, if you want to race online against other people on 200cc, there's actually a tournament that's always open called "200cc World Cup [dZ]" (the d is actually a delta), and all you need to do is either search for it or put in the tournament code, which is 2697-4546-2827
Cool video, I've mastered all of these but still enjoyed the video :D
I dont even know why i was watching this because i have played both mk8 and deluxe and knew everything. Anyways good vid.
Very helpful video. I'm new to Mario Kart and this was very informative. :D
Great vid as always I wiggle drift way to much so I’ll try soft drifting
Soft drifting is life
@@Bayesic I love soft drifting. I'd like to see how Luke from MKW softdrifts in MK8. In MKW nobody in the world is softer than him. Just look at his rMC3 WR.
@@wasanderesalsihrseid dude the mario circuit 3 was so good!
@@thelookingcat Yeah. Also I noticed that softdrifting in MKW and 8 is pretty similar, that's why I thought about Luke.
Wow, this helped me alot after I discovered brake drift is a thing and somehow not know for over a year lmao, thank you so much tho really, I appreciate it
I've been wiggle drifting since I was a kid... You learn something new everyday I guess
