      same, i came here after beating all the 200cc nin time trials and i was thinking i was hot stuff.... but after watching alot of pro time trials and how i could of drifted better i feel like i could improve them alot...
      that said, just to flex a bit i already had an idea about neutral drifting and mastered break drift (at least to a degree) but that mid air drift threw me for a loop...
      i also noticed how after a drift or on a small straight he would hop 3 times, im guessing that was to extend the the boost time? or to charge up a drift faster? im not to sure but im surprised he didnt add that technique into this video. or i missed it.

    After all this time playing this game (~800 hours into it), I was having a tough time making clean, tight corners. It was partially due to fear of hitting the wall or running out of bounds. It is past time for me to learn how to do this, especially now with the DLC out. Learning how to do vector gliding would help, too. Thank you for sharing these techniques with us. There aren't too many vids out there that go deep into detail or tell you the secrets of soft drifting.

    I'm already mind blown by the intro. I read in-game that mini-turbo's sparks can go from blue to orange to PURPLE if you can hold a drift long enough, with screenshots of what this looks like. I love drifting in MarioKart (It's literally WHY I play, I just love the movement of drifting that much that it's basically the main thing holding my attention) so naturally I go straight to Dragon Driftway to try and master Purple Drifting (At the time I'd only seen orange sparks like twice.) I figured if I can simply drift long enough, like the game told me, it'd Just Work
    Here I am watching you effortlessly get all the purple drifts in the intro that I simply kept missing when I first learned about it lol

    I'm definitely guilty of wiggle drifting. I had no idea that neutral drifting was faster, and it kind of isn't that intuitive, either! Is it still faster even if you can build a higher tier MT while holding the more steep angles into your drift? That seems like the biggest weakness of this neutral drift method.

    • @Bayesic
      @Bayesic  3 роки тому +29

      So in terms of actual movement speed, neutral drift > soft drift > hard drift. Not sure I explained this point particularly well, but generally on 200 if a turn is shallow enough that you can hug it tightly with a neutral drift, it's faster to do so than it is to wiggle and get the next level of MT (see the WR ghosts for sweet canyon and cheep cheep beach before the first underwater section) for examples. It's basically because the movement is slower, and the little wiggles have a much larger impact on your lines in 200 than 150.
      In 150 it's kind of the opposite in that if you can build up the next level of MT, then you generally want to try and do so. That being said though, there really aren't that many situations where you absolutely need to wiggle drift to build up levels of mini turbo, since soft drifting will generally work out just fine

Also, anyone else hate that nintendo doesn't give even a small indicator of stats based on your kart setup.. the stats are built in already so it's easy to give a visual rep. If they want people to just have fun before worrying about stats then put it on 200cc only OR a toggle stats on in the menu and have it off by default 🤷‍♂️

    Does soft drifting and all those other variations of drifts work for motion controls as well?

    • @Bayesic
      @Bayesic  3 роки тому +2

      That's actually a really good question. I just did some testing on Mario Circuit, and as far as I can tell the soft drifting stuff applies to motion controls as well. Unfortunately I can't really give you a precise "hold your controller in this way" sort of answer, but hopefully that helps

    • @mhystys
      @mhystys 3 роки тому

      Yes, it does. The mechanics between the two control methods are identical and only the controls change (though nothing is stopping you from using the joystick to softdrift on tilt either).

    Do you have a guide to how to do properly counter slide? Counter drifting? When you bounce on a contrary direction to the curve and bounce fast again to perform the slide ??
    Sorry my english!

    As someone who has been playing MKWii for years, I’m surprised to hear that the switch has made new ways of drifting. When the air drifting was mentioned I was SHOOK 👁👁 that sounds like such an advantage bc we’ve never had that in past mk games (at least to my knowledge)

    After all these years thinking it was faster to wiggle in the drifts to get the UMT in most corners while it's actually slower... man, this video really helped out a ton!! I'm going to practice The 10 o clock and 2 oclock drift positions from now on! And the midair drifts help me understand what is happening in those WR runs, because I was always flabbergasted looking at them lol.Thanks a ton!

    Does the drift counter start the moment you press the R button, or the moment your land from the hop? Basically, is delay drifting present in MK8DX?
    How do I play 200cc with other people? Most of my online races are 100cc.

    • @Bayesic
      @Bayesic  3 роки тому +1

      OoOooOooOoh you think you're a real hot shot don't you, talking about delayed drifting. HAHAHAHAH See ya later DARSH!
      Sorry man couldn't resist lol. Also yeah delayed drifting is present in MK8DX too, but I honestly didn't even know it was a thing until after I made this video, but I did include it in the advanced tips and tricks video I put out a few weeks ago
      As for racing on 200cc with other people, unfortunately if you're doing regionals or worldwides it's more or less random. I think once you go above a certain VR you'll no longer see 100cc races, and instead get a mix of 150cc, Mirror, and 200cc, with 150cc showing up the vast majority of the time.
      However, if you want to race online against other people on 200cc, there's actually a tournament that's always open called "200cc World Cup [dZ]" (the d is actually a delta), and all you need to do is either search for it or put in the tournament code, which is 2697-4546-2827
