It’s hard to believe that this song is already 40 years old. I remember it when it was released and I was a senior in high school. Pink Floyd has always been one of my favorite bands, primarily because they had such a unique way of writing and performing their songs. It was musical genius. The Animals, Dark Side of the Moon, and Wish You Were Here albums are forever engrained in my memory, but The Wall album produced arguably one of the best songs in my lifetime in Comfortably Numb and David Gilmour’s solo still hits me every time I hear it. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it, Shannon.

Ms. Hemmings, here's an interesting fact about what you just watched. This was filmed LIVE in Pompeii. Pink Floyd was the first band to perform LIVE in front of an audience in over 2000 years.
They did a concert there with no people in '71 or '72. Then the 2016 concert, in the Pompei amphitheater. I've been there and still they have an exhibit from the concert. Pompei is awesome and haunting, so wish I had been there then!!! Check out the '71 concert, look up "Echoes" for Pink Floyd.
I’m still yet to find someone who reacts to this song and doesn’t just stare at the screen without words. I imagine that’s exactly what Pink Floyd wanted when they created this inhuman piece of soul-penetrating magic. I’m 25, and I’m upset to be born not in this time. I would give years of my life to be at a PF concert.
T, at least you have the music. Growing up in the 'Classic Rock' era I was fortunate enough to see Floyd three times, along with other big bands like Led Zep, The Who, The Stones, Tull and the Eagles in their heyday. IMO, we listen to music today whereas back then we experienced it. Cheers...
Absolutely no words for this, probably the greatest song written, breaks my heart every time I hear, even after 30 years hearing it. David gilmour when his bass player taps his back gets me so emotional, so glad to have been alive to hear something so beautiful played
Saw your reaction to this and had to subscribe. You seem like a very genuine and beautiful person. And I kind of envy you...you get to go on a journey of discovering the musical genius of bands such as Pink Floyd. Enjoy the ride 😀
It was a thing of beauty watching you being drawn into this amazing song. This band will go down in history as the most profound group of all time. Their music history dates from the late '60s to the present. I bought one of the first Darkside of the Moon albums sold in the US. Just before I was drafted during the Viet Nam war, and they are still with me.
Just before the 5 minute mark, it’s quite visible where you made the emotional connection in a big way. Feels awesome, doesn’t it? Not many groups can do this with a great deal of their music. Pink Floyd is one of those groups and I can confidently say that there will probably never be another group that will come together with such otherworldly musical chemistry. That first solo grabs people that are hearing Pink Floyd for first time right by the heart strings. David didn’t just play the guitar. Rather, he communicated the specific emotion he wanted you to feel and that communication is simply undeniable. Amazing actually. When you match the extraordinary composition with the lyrical poetry these folks assembled, then listen to that spiritual sounding guitar solo, it sends that emotional arrow deep every time. There is a very good reason solo #1 and #2 in this song are known to be 2 of the best of all time primarily for the reason that they elicit such an emotional response. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
I first heard this song as a kid in the early 80’s while sitting in the garage watching my Dad work on his Bike. I had tears in my eyes too.. Even at that age, I knew. I was Floyded early LOL

Some highlights: - The four classic albums: Dark Side Of The Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977), The Wall (1979). - The song Echoes (1971). - The Division Bell (1994) and the subsequent tour, released on the Pulse CD/DVD. - Gilmour's album On An Island (2006) and the tour, released on two DVDs: Remember That Night and Live In Gdansk. And lots and lots more. But start with On The Turning Away, it's an overlooked gem :)
@@TheVicious83 No, I didn't forget Waters. The best songs were a collaboration of the whole band, even when Waters took most of the credit, and Gilmour was often the real driving force behind the music (Gilmour once said he wrote 90% of the music of Animals, despite getting only credit for Dogs). Waters was the ideas man, he usually came up with the general concepts, demos, and lyrics, but Gilmour was the most musically gifted, and he's essential to the 'Pink Floyd sound'. As for Waters live, it's just not the same.
Pulsar77 I can not agree. It was Waters who was the entire creative machine behind the Floyds. Gilmour brought in money. It is thanks to Waters that we have Wish You Were Here, Dark side of the moon and the overrated The Wall. The best proof of this is that Gilmour didn't create anything interesting (maybe except for the song Division Bell - the rest of the album is just very poor). Gilmour was and is a great musician. Waters is a better composer than a musician. And here's the problem.
Just stumbled across this. Of all the reactions I have watched, this is my favourite. It’s so good watching someone getting the feeling that I have had for years watching pink floyd. I recently played pink floyd (high hopes) at my mothers funeral. So moving. !!
I'm pretty sure that the person recommended the Pulse version, but maybe didn't put that word in capital letters. David Gilmour, the guitarist, has been playing this song since he was 33. Here he is 70, and can still play. The problem now is that you've already had your first experience with the song, so what would make re-doing it worth it ? I would suggest going to the Songfacts website first. Then the experience would be enhanced by knowing what the lyrics are about. Just Google the name of the song, and type the word Songfacts afterwards. On this site, (more than on some others which are more of a collection of fans' opinions about song meanings), they usually have excerpts from interviews with the songwriters themselves. I think this would make a second viewing more enjoyable than just playing the other version because most people feel that the guitar solo is his best. This is a great site to know about for classic rock songs (This one is 40yrs old), which also often has information about the recording of the songs.

I have listening to this song hundreds, if not thousands of times, but it still affects me. And your single tear near the start of the second solo, can tell that was a genuine reaction, mirrors me every single time I hear this song!! And this is such an amazing version too.
Hearing this again after a long break, it's so apparent that neither Gilmour nor Waters ever reached these heights again, once their collaborations ended. Such an emotional song can only come from the tearing synergy between these two ideologically and spiritually opposed creative minds. This song is a perfect example of what comes from such an antagonistic synergy. The dark lyrics combined with the soaring anger and defiance of the chorus and the guitar solo - well, this will probably never be equalled.
David Gilmore could elicit so much emotion and soul from his guitar that it leaves his audience in breathless amazement. Pink Floyd is a life altering experience. The vast majority of reactors have the same reaction that you did to Pink Floyd. I highly recommend that you listen to “The Great Gig In the Sky” from the Dark Side Of the Moon album. Actually that album is one continuous rock opera that tells the story of one of the founding members of the band, Sid Barrett. Sid suffered from a total psychological melt down and went insane.

That era is not over yet and I hope it will never be and that PF will continue to resonate over time and impact the lives of the young people who are coming. Moved to tears by a guitar solo, what a treasure you are. And I say this as a guitarist of more than forty years' standing. If you are interested in hearing more Pink Floyd, you may be interested to know that Dave Gilmour is considered one of the most tasteful guitarists of all time. I agree with another fellow here, who suggested Time and Great Gig in the Sky. The guitar solo in Time is considered a benchmark against which all others may be judged, a composition in itself. I'm so glad that someone brought up the fact about the guitar strap he's using used to belong to Hendrix, it kind of puts things into perspective as obviously Gilmour was a fan of Hendrix. Anyway, the Pulse version is my personal favorite of this and I was there for original version of this from The Wall. Give it a listen, you won't regret.

Of all my Pink Floyd CDs, this is an all-time favorite. David Gilmore can really make that guitar cry. After all, he took lessons from Les Paul. "Learning to Fly" is also an awesome track on the aforementioned album. So good to see your reaction. I'll never forget their Dark Side of the Moon concert back in the early 70s. Three hours long, and it left my mind numb. Quadraphonic sound was so awesome.

I like watching your stuff because you don't overbalance it with your commentary. I often bail when the producers make it about them. Kudos to you for just rolling with the music and injecting yourself with grace and charm.

Tears coming down your face... there's no other reaction to this masterpiece. I love it! Live forever David!!!
I attended this concert and it was probably the greatest day of my life. I hope David Gilmour lives forever!
I’m so envious! I know it’s a sin but damn. You
Lucky lucky human!
David Gilmour and that black Strat together are the closest thing to heaven on this Earth
I was 20 when I first heard this song. That was 41 years ago. I could see the moment that you were moved by David. I cried with you. Peace
That guitar he’s playing just sold for four million dollars for charity. The guitar strap he’s using used to belong to Jimi Hendrix. Gilmour’s wife bought the strap for his sixtieth birthday.
4 mill?!!! Holy 💩
That guitar needs to be studied. That guitar is magic. That guitar can see into your soul.
@@rohmarts Nothing magical about the guitar. It's the guy who is playing it who is the magician!
@@bujin1977 Yeah, he's pretty good too. : )
Not Pink Floyd, you selected a live version of Comfortably Numb by David Gilmore. Next time select a studio (Album Version) of a Pink Floyd song. It is a better representation of the song as the band recorded it, a Live (Concert Version) is great after the original is experienced! ☮️
I wish I could hear Pink Floyd for the first time again.
Take some LSD and listen to Pink Floyd. It's like listening to them for the first time all over again!
if you ever get a chance to see "brit floyd" tribute band do it. you WILL NOT be disappointed!!!!!
David's guitars solo on this is considered one of he best solos. Dam this makes me feel young again We boomers had a great life.
This is the best rendition of this song I've ever heard! A true MASTERPIECE!!
First solo brings you to tears, the second picks you up off the floor.
Well put
It’s impossible for David Gilmour to play a bad note, ever.
And he's an OLD man...
ffjsb so?
@@robertwhite7071 SO, a LOT of people loose dexterity as they age, and can't play like they used to. That's why Neil Peart and Eric Clapton don't play anymore. Evidently the obvious eludes you...

ffjsb you’re totally lost, Gilmour plays with smarts and intelligence. He’s never been about being fast and flashy, dexterities is not an issue clueless.
I love how happy the drummer always appears. Every song and every concert. YOU can tell that he's got the Best job in the world.
That epiphany... When you listen to Pink Floyd* for the first time.
*Glimour and Co.😂
I know this is old but David Gilmore's solo is incredible.
the tears say it all........ still makes me cry after a thousand times listening..
Oh man your reaction was so genuine, I could read all the emotions right off your face! Welcome to Pink Floyd :D!
I think David Gilmour was 70 when this was recorded... and I don't think he's ever been better. What a lifetime of practice can do... And I like the look on his face at the end, like, "Yeah, that turned out ok". :)
The next one to do is Pink Floyd Time. Try to read the lyrics as you listen. then do The Great Gig in the Sky. Those are the usual first steps. Then you just have fifty more years to catch up on.
Alan Peterson I love just sitting back with my headphones on listening to the whole Dark Side of the Moon album
Great choice mate.
Great gig in the sky.
Yes absolutely... both as one if possible.

Shannon, I am moved beyond words by your reaction. I can only imagine what was going through your mind during this masterpiece. By seeing your facial reactions, I see something powerful moving inside of you. I can definitely relate, for every time I hear this, the same happens to me. Memories, dreams, longings, sorrows, happiness, all condensed in 9 minutes. Thank you for this amazing video!!
They can’t produce groups like this today .Pink Floyd are in a class of their own an icon of the sixties and one of the most successful bands of our time this is pure gold .
Fender made the Stratocaster. David Gilmour said, hold my beer
it was so touching and adorable to see your feelings evolve at the first solo.thanks for sharing this
It’s hard to believe that this song is already 40 years old.
And this is how we know there is God, Heaven, and Angels... On the 8th day, He created Pink Floyd
I just found another reason to shed some tears while watching you watch this song. It was 100 millionth time I saw this song and still not over it.
Remembered my first time ...1973!!! I still listen to “Dark Side of the Moon” to crash to. Get the best headphones you can buy and jump into the Floyd rabbit hole. You don't listen to Pink Floyd, you experience it. Greatest band ever.
When they do a pull back shot towards the end you can see the outline of the amphitheater and in the back to the right is the modern town of Pompei.
Great call. 1st ever
I’m still yet to find someone who reacts to this song and doesn’t just stare at the screen without words. I imagine that’s exactly what Pink Floyd wanted when they created this inhuman piece of soul-penetrating magic.

David gilmour when his bass player taps his back gets me so emotional, so glad to have been alive to hear something so beautiful played

Thank you for your service, sir.
I could listen to this song over and over again! Best solo ever performed...the magic of David Gilmour!!!
You have opened the Pink Floyd box now, your life will never be the same! 🙂
I have had the privilege of seeing Pink Floyd live. I have seen a rather large amount of concerts...Pink Floyd is a spiritual experience.
Insanely jealous of you!! Can’t even lie

@@ShannonHemmingsTV Yep, he's still got it. This was one of his last concerts to date, back in 2016, and I doubt he'll tour again. I envy you, you have an amazing journey ahead. Pink Floyd and Gilmour's solo work transport you to another world, they are truly unique. Some highlights:
- The four classic albums: Dark Side Of The Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977), The Wall (1979).
Are You forgotting about one more Pink Floyd member? Gilmour was great but biggest songs was written by Roger Watters- and he is still on stage.
THE best solo of all time, David Gilmour
Just stumbled across this. Of all the reactions I have watched, this is my favourite. It’s so good watching someone getting the feeling that I have had for years watching pink floyd. I recently played pink floyd (high hopes) at my mothers funeral. So moving. !!
What a lovely woman it was a pleasure to watch you enjoy this masterpiece, your expressions are adorable.
Correct. But why the education? Arent there other platforms to express your genuis? You lost the simplicity of enjoying music by being a dick/ette? Man..grow up...

Just let me tell you something: you are one of us.
I have listening to this song hundreds, if not thousands of times, but it still affects me. And your single tear near the start of the second solo, can tell that was a genuine reaction, mirrors me every single time I hear this song!! And this is such an amazing version too.
Such warmth and dignity in your reaction. When I hear his guitar cry, I cry like a baby.
That back Strat! The man is a genius.
I am 53 years old and I was lucky and honored to grow up in the age of PF. That era is not over yet and I hope it will never be and that PF will continue to resonate over time and impact the lives of the young people who are coming. PF is like a warm blanket that I often come back to when I need comfort, a safe home, a crutch that helps me when I'm broken ...
I still have tears well up to this song every time and ive been listening to it for years. Glad you enjoyed
If you feel that this video took you on a journey, Dark Side of the Moon is an album that will do the same; it's very immersive.
I would also like to suggest that you view the dramatic Starless, by King Crimson. Here is the link to a great live version by the band: ua-cam.com/video/FhKJgqxNDD8/v-deo.html.

Hi- just came across this video, and it made my heart feel good to see tears running down your face. The history and depth of the Floyd/Gilmour performances cannot be overstated. I've seen this video, heard the various Comfortably Numb versions/solos hundreds (thousands?) of times, and it still, STILL, makes me feel weepy and emotional. Thank you for sharing this moment!
Hey Girl! Just found you and had to say I too was blown away by this version of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" video. I never listened to them when I was young, but now, here I am approaching 73 years and have fallen in love with their sound and showmanship! I just can't get enough of this wonderful group!

45plus years later, this song still brings chills and usually tears. You MUST listen to the original album cut...as well as the whole album. Over the years their performance of this song has changed..to appease time and audiences..also David Gilmore has lived a lifetime now, and his playing reflects that emotion. But the original raw uncommercialized version is so different than all the others..
All my love..heres to a peaceful new year.
As good as David does it, it is Rogers' song. Rogers' voice is important for songs off of this album. I saw The Wall in 1980 and 2012. About Face in 84, On an Island in 06, Rattle that Lock in 16. Us and Them in 17, Dark Side in 09, Pros and Cons in 83-4. Peace Man!
@@jonathansmith3742 Yes, Roger basically wrote the whole album, truly a lyrical genius. A shame that the squabbles kept the two apart. However, it is Gilmore that plays the solos and emitts such an emotional response from listeners..especially those that only are enjoying the music & don t take the time to learn the history.
Have a peaceful new year, my fellow Floyd fan!
Miss Hemmings, that was a beautiful reaction video to Pink Floyd's timeless classic Comfortably Numb.
David Gilmour is a stellar guitarist, one of the all time great musicians.
Your reactions to this brilliant performance was compelling and emotional.
More Pink Floyd reaction videos would be most welcome 🙂
Of all my Pink Floyd CDs, this is an all-time favorite. David Gilmore can really make that guitar cry. After all, he took lessons from Les Paul. If you ever listen to "On the Turning Away" (Album: "Momentary Lapse of Reason"), make sure you have some tissues handy. Pink Floyd"s music stands alone. "Learning to Fly" is also an awesome track on the aforementioned album. So good to see your reaction. I'll never forget their Dark Side of the Moon concert back in the early 70s. Three hours long, and it left my mind numb. Quadraphonic sound was so awesome.
FYI: There's something about reaction pieces in UA-cam that are attractive. The main parts are the music and the comedy, but watching someone's reaction is also fun. I like watching your stuff because you don't overbalance it with your commentary. I often bail when the producers make it about them. Kudos to you for just rolling with the music and injecting yourself with grace and charm.
I appreciate you! I might just make my first reaction video in over a year with the help of this comment :) I’m but a teeny tiny stone in a magnificent sculpture or at least that’s what I hope to be.
come on guys, this version is JUST as good as the Pulse one! And it may be better for reactions -- since everyone has already reacted to the Pulse version.
Strongly disagree. Pulse performance is 1000 times better but a great song regardless
I love the way he keeps stepping upward, and upward in his solo. Then hitting the climax, like a grand musical orgasm of sound and symphonic resonance.
Not the first time and not the last time I've watched someone listen to this song for the first time and start with the outlook of happiness only to watch the twist at the chorus when you realize that this is a profoundly sad song. Your sincere reaction is amazing. Thank you for sharing it with us all.
