    Thank you for watching! I have included links to all products. Just being helpful. Here are the links to the Ram 1500 Front Intermediate Shafts or Stub shaft or Stub axles, or whatever you choose to call them. There are others to choose from but this is the one I bought. Second, is the Heavy Duty Extreme Temp CV Axle Shafts by TrackMotive with a limited lifetime warranty. Once again, there are many to choose from but this is the one I choose. Finally, the Mevotech Supreme Front Wheel Bearing and Hub from RockAuto.com with a 5 year warranty. You can also get from Amazon.

    This is my 2014 Ram 1500 Big Horn, should be the same for years 2012-2022, we are replacing the old worn out axle shafts/intermediate shafts and CV axles. I was going to include the Wheel Bearings in this video but decided to leave them out because of the length of the video already. This is not a hard job and it is mainly just time consuming. Make sure you have BIG 90 degree C-Clip pliers!

    Just a tip from a tec. If you tighten up the axle nut with a Impact gun it can damage the wheel bearing. And how it does that is, it pounds the balls into the races and and makes tiny dents, which cause bearing failure . SKF will void warranty if they suspect that was done to a new bearing, and premature failure occurred. They have to be hand tightened and torqued to specific specs , SKF has a on line torque specs info page for all makes of Vehicles.

    11 hours one day, 6 hours the next. That’s how long I tried to bang, pry and pull the CV axle out of my Ram. Spent hundreds on tools and watched tons of videos. I ended up cutting the cup off the axle, leaving just the stub attached. I put a 3 jaw puller on there and attempted to remove with an impact and it didn’t budge. I ordered the differential shaft and will be attempting this tomorrow. Thanks for the video.

    I have a 2013 Ram. My front axles are messed up also. I see this as a huge design flaw. Some other trucks have a male splined shaft which inserts INTO the diff, not on top of the protruding male shaft coming OUT OF the diff. Water gets in! It destroys the axles AND the shafts in the diff. What a huge problem. There are other silly design features of my RAM which have caused problems. I'll be buying another manufacturer's cars in the future.

    • @benjaminkline4855
      @benjaminkline4855 Рік тому +2

      At 35:50 he adds a c clip to the output shaft, a o-ring goes in the groove a inch below that. When you install cv shaft, the end of cv shaft will go 1/8 past the oring before before the c clip lock the 2 together. The oring keeps dirt and water from getting into the splines.

    You need to get the torque specs for the job you are doing.
    Get yourself a good torque wrench, and avoid using the power tool on the spindle nut because that will destroy the bearings. Always use a torque wrench.
    Good luck.

      With that much play in it, it's best to replace the stub axles also because the splines get worn down and damaged with the cv axles as well. Just changing the cv axles doesn't fix the issue it's just a bandaid.

  • @garrettsmith6679
    @garrettsmith6679 Рік тому

    Rams are funny. Can’t just remove the whole knuckle because the axle is in the way and won’t let the lower ball joint clear, and you can’t slide the axle out easily cause the lower ball joint is holding the knuckle on. Stupid. So what your suppose to do I think is pop both ball joints leave the bottom one attached but as loose as possible, and tilt the knuckle down and pop the axle off the stub shaft first, this way you don’t have to mangle the axle.
