For our first tutorial we've got the 2012 and up 1/2 dodge front axle repair and replacement as Bruce Rood shows in the video. This is a product we put together in house, have patented to sell to the public! Its a very simple fix and more affordable than replacing the whole differential.

I will try a kit myself, but I am amazed this problem isn't a recall or a class action suit, I had 56,000 miles on a 2014 ram, barely use 4 wheel drive and the passenger side id loose with play in it. This seems to be too common of a problem on these year Ram pickups.
You and me both. I have a 2019 and mine is going out on the right side.

I have a 2014 ram 1500 and they told me at the dealership that I have to change these parts and the cost is $4,680
2015 ram here third set of cv axles and now I need output shafts too. Dumb 114k miles
The kit did tge job, and an hour to install
Can you just buy the rubber boot that goes over the spindle???

Put it in my truck on Saturday and wow like brand new again,great fix and well done on coming up with this.After dealership dealings and other outlet parts stores this was the only helpful video and fix I could find

Just finish installing kit. You weren’t lying about the boot being a tight fit over cv and spline! I’m glad I found out about you guys! Thanks for making the part and for this straight forward video which is really helpful!
A quick tap down and should fall out ... pulls out bigger mallet after first one fails.
By the way, this comes in handy. My choices are this rebuild or a new/rebuilt one from the dealer ... I mean stealer.
Had Roods Transmission replace mine, luckily at their shop .Excellent to deal with , and glad to see a local company do what others couldn't ,or wouldn't. Keeps us all Trucking ! Thanks R

Do i have to put another gasket on before connecting the housing back with the four bolts?
How do you know what fluid you should put back n how much can any one explain?

Hello, are the rubber boots available for purchase separately ? I am not in need of a new shaft at the moment, and a kit with a left/right boot would be exactly what I need.

I ordered mine last week, it will be here soon. I can’t wait to put it in with a new axle and hub bearing assembly. I have been dealing with a worn out intermediate shaft for 3 years, thanks and hats off to Roods transmission for making this piece at a affordable price. Dodge still doesn’t offer a replacement option for this. The only thing they keep telling me is I have to replace the whole front diff and it would be around $5000 to do that. There should have been a recall from the factory to replace and remedy this. I’ll be ordering a few more in the future, I have a few friends that are having the same issue with their dodge rams. Again thank you for providing us with a option Roods Transmissions.

Just installed one of these kits for a customer at my shop. This kit is phenomenal and your customer will be very happy to save thousands for not needing a whole diff. Differential removal from the truck is not required. Simple job for any professional tech, took an hour start finish.
just another victim to Ram/Mopars incredible engineering team, bought a new to me 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 Outdoorsman, withen weeks of purchase a snow storm we had up here in the UP of michigan I used 4wheel drive. Wouldnt you know it my CV shaft on passenger was junk. Pulled CV shaft out at home. Find that the C-RING on the end of the interm. shaft was completely destroyed, the shaft itself worn down to nothing. New CV shaft locks onto orignal shaft but has a scary amount of play right at the interm. shaft. Will shred another 230$ CV in weeks. Was ready to bring my truck into a local shop. Shop owner was very famiier with this issue and told me the whole DIFF needs to come out of the truck to repair. From what I see in this video that is not the case. Shop quoted me 4hrs of work at 100 an hr plus 300 for a replacement part. He wasnt even aware there was a replacement part until I showed him Oreilly Auto has it for 300$ without the rubber seals that come in this kit.
Going to try and tackle this myself over the weekend. Pressing bearings in place may be tough but the rest doesnt look impossible from the ground of my garage.
Is there a name for the housing for intermediate shaft? The piece you separated. The mounting tab totally broke off mine and is just "floating" there.

Great Video, very helpful. when it came to the needle bearings and cover seal, I used a large socket and 2 extensions and pressed them out after a long screw driver and a hammer as suggested on the inside edge wasn't progressing the project as effortlessly as it was going. keep it simple, great video thank you for the guidance!
How you know if Intermediate Shaft need to replace someone help me out?
Your axle will pop out and be loose. Typically, you will hear a loud bang or pop when turning to the left real fast. It may clunk a little over bumps and the steering will vibrate a little. Just go under the truck and grab it, if it has a ton of play and pops in and out, then you need this kit
I would like to know what causes the change of this piece, noise, jumps, vibration.? They told me it would cost me 4800 but I took it apart myself however I don't notice anything wrong with the parts, I expected to see wear or ground metal but nothing, but they told me that's the problem, help please

Just got my new axle shaft in the mail but didn’t realize I also need a new housing for the shaft also. Does anyone know how to get a new housing for the intermediate shaft.
Where to find the housing for "the small extension he opened" where the intermediate shaft go into. Mine has small crack , don't want to buy the whole carriar $700 for that . And is different if mine 3.92 gear ratio? Thanks

great video. ordered mine the other day and talked to Bruce. I'm confident I can do this fix. I probably wouldn't if it wasn't for this video. Going to attempt it without dropping the whole diff though.

@@TheRealJoeCarter I called them and you do not need to drop the entire diff.
@@blakeerdmann yeah it looks like once you get the cv shaft off, this can come free very easily. If I can find a warm place to do this, I might do it myself. Though for a kit on Amazon and the shaft from the dealer(mines too new), it's almost the price a trans shop quoted me.

OK folks I just completed this project on a 2015 Ecodiesel. You can easily remove the intermediate shaft housing without removing the differential. HOWEVER IT IS NOT THAT EASY ON AN ECODIESEL. The diesel apparently occupies a LOT more real estate in the engine compartment. For instance the oil pan on the diesel is about an inch away from the top intermediate housing flange bolt. This makes getting the bolt oot a very big PAIN IN THE ASS. You'll need to bend the hell oot of a 12mm combination wrench. Pulling the full differential oot looks like even a bigger PIA because the bolt on the front top of the differential housing looks almost impossible with out removing the PS pump or maybe the radiator and intercooler of perhaps both. I went after the I-shaft housing.
If you do this on an ecodiesel and you need the truck. The first thing you'll do is remove that top intermediate shaft housing bolt. That might be the only thing you get done for the evening. It'll give you a good idea what it's going to take to get the job done. The next day you work on it you'll go after everything else.

As far as the gear oil goes, is there a specific amount that's needed or what?
installed a few of these kits from Roods. those seals are a real good idea and i would recommend installing a set of these

I would be worried it would heat up the seal at the intermediate shaft and leak oil

Go under the truck and grab it and see how much play it has. If it pops in and out, then it's bad
Can you do this while leaving the diff mounted in the truck and just removing the side housing?

How can you replace gears on a Ram/1500/5th generation/ 2019 from 3.21 front differential to 3.92? Why I'm asking because I put on 35inch tires on w/20inch rims... it is possible???? And how please help
On the 4th Gen Rams with the ZF front diff, if you want to go from 3.21 to 3.92, you have to replace the entire front diff with a diff that already has 3.92 gears because the front diff on these trucks can't be regeared like the rear. I believe there is a write up online about it if you search for it and it explains why. The rear diff can be regeared like normal.
