Slipknot's dark and disturbing image - particularly their masks - were a visual representation of what the music sounded like, but Taylor says it was "never really about being scary. "We were all just kind of these balls of psychosis that were just trying to work out this kind of frenetic energy, this hyperactive intensity, basically. The masks just helped us kind of tap into it a little more. We just wanted to go out and we just wanted it to be, you know, the wildest thing anybody's ever seen…"It was about being intimidating, obviously, but it was also much more of a creative thing. This was a way for us to kind of wear the music on us physically and create something that was striking."

Actually clown used to wear it and bring the mask everywhere they went and they didn't want to wear masks but clown kept pushing it so they went with it and never turned back.

One of my favorite Corey masks, (Also HANDS DOWN! Corey Taylor is one of, if not, the best vocalist of our generation!!) is the one with the big eye and small mouth. Like, to me? It represents observation and a slowness to talk or judge. Like, Silence is golden and duct tape is silver haha!

    • @Unangelic73
      @Unangelic73 9 місяців тому +2

They started with duct tape wrapped around their faces before the masks

    It’s an amazing song.
    Sadly timeless for humanity.

Slipknot is not evil. Dark imagery and lyrics are misunderstood a lot as evil, in heavy metal, understandably, when you don't understand that it's all a metaphor for the real "demons" everyone deals with in life. Since everyone's journey is different, this can mean SO many different things to different people. I've been a metal head since 15. This type of music saved me many times. But it's not for everyone, and that's ok! Great reaction ❤❤❤❤❤❤

Cory Taylor has his own band called Stone Sour. They are completely different from Slipknot. You would probably enjoy them immensely. Cory is the lead vocalist and has an incredible singing voice. You should check out his live performance of Snuff. You'll never look at Cory the same way you do now. However, in saying that, keep reacting to Slipknot. If it seems like everything Cory Taylor gets involved in is Mad Awesome, it's because It Is.
BTW- I'm a soon to be 50yr old white dude, retired USMC Combat Vet Spec Ops Scout/Sniper. I just have to say it's really refreshing to see someone from my generation who is willing to have an open mind and expand your musical horizons to music and artists whom you've never heard of. Keep up the good work Brother! Much love! SEMPER FI!! Go Recon!

Others have mentioned where the masks originated, but one element they don’t typically touch on is the freedom wearing a mask provides. You’re not worried about how contorted your face is when you’re being expressive, you’re free to just be in the moment. They can be more true to themselves and authentic, without worrying about having to “put on a show” that might take them out of the immersion of that experience. You could even say that the unmasked face they show in public is the “mask”, the social norms and conformity we abide by. By putting the actual mask on, they free themselves from those expectations and can reveal their true nature. The masks change from album to album as each individual’s representation of themselves evolves with their personal growth.
Easiest example of this is -go try and heavy metal scream in public. Feel self conscious? Try it with a mask and see how much more free you feel

Slipknot are one of the greatest bands ever existed. They have represented so much of the rock/metal world era. Close to retiring. When these guys go and rammstein all you have left is 3 people on a stage the size of newyork state... lost... enjoy them whilst they are still around!!

As a teenager going through dark raw emotions! Slipknot was just relatable in a way of not being alone.
Now as I’m older understanding lyrics in the songs I’ve always loved have been an eye opener. Slipknot however is DEEP… kind of relates to some things happening in the world even now, this song specifically like about digging in the desert. Taking water/resources right out from under our noses. Love his lyrics bc it’s like code 🎵🌎🐇
Like your reactions dude and getting into it!

I feel bad for the people that don’t have the patience to watch until the end, because they miss out on so much. Thinking through the lyrics is definitely a great way to pay respect to the artist. Ive never been into the rap, pop genre. But the guitar has its voice, the drums, bass, not only the singing has lyrics but the instruments of metal or rock. what they look like is just expression of who they want people to see. if they scare you then you got some issues. people fear what they dont understand and thats the beauty of it. slipknot helped me through some dark times in my life. its a connection of what ppl has been through, you may not have gone through what we have but they know the pain and suffering like we do.

Slipknot always had a dark image to begin with but they had a mysterious effect because for years no one knew who they really were. They came in hard but most of their songs are genius. They bring light to many social problems, some political problems. Live they were insane. I can't remember which show it was but the drummer span around and just kept drumming flawlessly. He is one of the best drummers of that time. If you want to see another side of Slipknot, go and check out Snuff! Most amazing song!

So slipknot came out some time around when I was 19. I was a huge death metal fan. Slipknot had its place in my CD collection but the masks at the time seemed like there way to stand out. At a time when Pantara, MegaDeath, White Zombie,Supultura and others where king. I personally never thought they where number one. They were more #5 and I am not sure they would have even got big without the crazy out fits. So @BP maybe check out Pantara they were the #1 Kings of the double bass drum screaming death metal bands.
Mind you I am sure there will be many that dissagree with my #5 rating.

He has many song but EPIC is one of his best creation. And of course you have to see the lyrics. I hope one day you could react to him. That would make a lot of people happy. ❤ R.I.P Canserbero

Much respect for actually listening to and reading the lyrics! Too many judge them based on appearances only. You Rock! One of my favorite Slipknot videos is The Devil in I. Check it out, it's like watching a movie! Peace!! 🤘🏼

9 members 9 points there isn't really any crazy hidden meaning behind the star. (At least not that I can remember)

This song was written during the height of the Iraq war. The American culture was one that claimed to be a righteous Christian nation but was supporting an unjust war.

Slipknot & Limp Bizkit, due to their use of turntablists in the bands, introduced me to metal music. I had heard ish like Nirvana & other joints in the 90s but I grew up on hip hop, freestyle music (EDM dance ish), Miami bass & turntablism. DJs cutting up & battling, real spinners in that element. #RIP Roc Raida! But yeah the DJ element brought me in & then I developed the love for the aggressive attitude metal had. Reminds me of the 80s & 90s golden era of rap where everything was pretty much a middle finger to the establishment.

There are quite a few mashups using Psychosocial, involving many different styles. It's been joked that Corey's vocals go with everything. Some of the mashups include:
    "Psychosocial Baby" - Isosine
    "PSYchosocial Style" - thispreme
    "Psychoconda" - TheGodlessHeathen
    "Psychofaint 2.0" (updated version) - XYClanKILLER2
"Slipknot - Psychosocial But It's Sexyback" - William Maranci Mashups

appreciate it man, you'll be surprised how deep and beautiful the metal world is, I would say that at least 90% of the industry is about perseverance in the face of hardship, and the exact opposite of evil, ironically, with religion being the usual topic associated with those masks being a sign on "evil", it is a misty concept on the fine line of either bias, based on perspective.
In fashionable juxtaposition, metal regularly talks about the issues with society and its hierarchical bounds, frequently presenting historical examples that still effect us today whereby religion plays a huge role.

Oh, the first slipknow song you were talking about, the lyrics were meant to convey rubbing the eyes, pressing on them like when you have a headache... Not poking your eyes out lol

@@benclements5808 Well, read the lyrics as someone exhausted, angry, head hurting from all the BS they are dealing with. That anguish gives way to anger, at the end of the song.
"I push my fingers into my eyes
It's the only thing that slowly stops the ache
But it's made of all the things I have to take
Jesus, it never ends, it works it's way inside
      If the pain goes on
I have screamed until my veins collapsed
I've waited as my time's elapsed
Now, all I do is live with so much hate
I've wished for this, I've bitched at that
I've left behind this little fact
You cannot kill what you did not create
I've gotta say what I've gotta say
And then, I swear, I'll go away
But I can't promise you'll enjoy the noise
I guess I'll save the best for last
My future seems like one big past
You're left with me 'cause you left me no choice"

I can't remember the video but there's one where the band is out of focus and not in masks but the masks are hanging around on the instruments or mic stands but in focus. It was pretty awesome.
