I LOVE the way this ride smells. It smells like really stale water. Isn't it funny how smells trigger memories? The smell of Pirates of the Caribbean reminds me of childhood, innocence and happiness. I can see by the comments below I'm not the only person who loves it. Disneyland should market bottles of Pirates of the Caribbean smell to spray around when we want to be happier.
You took the words right out of my mouth! I thought I was crazy thinking this way.. The smells are incredible at Disneyland.. Brings back so many memories :')
laurenjessicaTV We live in a culture that puts very little significance into smells. The only smell we put much importance into is smoke, because no matter who you are, if the building you are in is on fire, you've got to get out of it. Smells are important. The Pirates of the Caribbean has always smelled the same as long as I've been alive, and there's no way to think an unhappy thought while riding this wonderful ride. I think it's awesome that the tribe of Disneyland lovers have this primal link in common!
The guy playin' the banjo is our guide into the world of pirates. He recalls the tale of his swashbuckling days, warning the audience of the dangers of piracy. Or at least that's what i thought.
I used to be afraid to ride Pirates when I was maybe 5 because of the drop. But now that I’ve been on Splash Mountain, I’ve found out that the Pirates drop is really just a bump compared to that XD
+BoilingHotCoffee Pre-movie this ride had a non-existent line. In the mid 90s. Literally, me and a friend went to ride it at 2pm. Zero people in line. Zero. Post-movie the last time I saw the ride queue which was last week. The wait was 40 minutes. Very popular now.
well there's also the fact that Disneyland hosted less visitors then than it does today. during the summer though, most of the time I usually see a 15 or 20 minute wait for the ride. When Haunted Mansion Holiday opens, it brings a lot of people into New Orleans Square, and since Pirates is nearby, more people are going to go on the ride
Anthony Ianitello ya when the ride first opened they used real skeletons, but later replaced them all with fake ones, except the skull on the headboard of the dead captain in his bed.
I will admit, out of all of the Disneyland rides, this one's the most slow moving, but if you're strolling around Disneyland, and you just wanna relax, than Pirates of the Caribbean, is definitely the ride you'll wanna go on.
This is my favorite ride of all time. I've loved it since I was three years old. I've always loved this, it made me smile. The idea of pirates, anything involving swashbuckling and the ocean, treasure and ships. Ah, yo ho yo ho a pirate's life for me.
I'm 54 now, I remember my Big sister Linda taking me to Disneyland for the first time, i was amazed of this ride, i wanted to get off, and live with the pirates , still do 😁😁😁
There used to be a mermaid skeleton and there were mermaids under the water at one point, but they took all of them out and I do not know why. In Shanghai, there are three mermaids swimming and singing the song from the fourth film, but it is very brief.
Oh the memories! This ride was my freaking childhood! I'm a bit over 30 (and we used to go every year) so I've witnessed the changes and I for one don't mind then. They really didn't screw too much with the premise of the ride, I actually think the changes enriched the experience. I loved the contrast between the old animatronics and the latest one. The new Jack Sparrows (especially the one at 13:29) are awe inspiring, but please NEVER get rid of the originals.
I was born in 2003, the same year POTC 1 came out. I grew up watching these movies and always wanted to go on this ride. I’m 17 and never have been able to go to Disneyland due to money..some day I will come here and witness my childhood once again as an adult.
The smell is the only thing we're missing. It's so cool that the internet can bring back the old rides we love, but the familiar smell of the water and stuff just brings it all together. thanks so much for posting this!
You could argue for hours about which rides are better at which park, but there's no doubt in my mind that this Pirates is better than the one in Florida. I love how it goes through Blue Bayou and the caves and treasure part is much longer. I miss this ride
Those two have always been my two most favorite rides at Walt Disney World in Florida, but I remember enjoying the Pirates ride in California even more so.....seems to be a bit longer....and that eating place inside the ride just looks so cool.
The building on the right at 1:13 is the Blue Bayou, a real Disneyland restaurant. We thought about going there for my sisters birthday, but it's a long wait, and it's a little pricey. But it looks like it'd be so nice especially on a hot day when you want to escape the sun and heat.
All the comments from this video appear to be before everything is closed. Man I miss Disneyland. The best feeling is going through this ride as a kid and just knowing that that day was just the best. Nothing on earth could top that feeling. Wonderful memories that I will cherish forever.
When I was little we had Disneyland season passes. I wasn’t even in school yet and my dad would take me all the time, usual during the week in the mornings when the lines were short. The smell is something that I’ll never forget. This was always my favorite ride. My dad passed away this year and I watch this video sometimes because it reminds me of happy times growing up. I miss that smell.
Jupiter9099 Yeah. They both had famous songs Grim Grinning Ghosts and A Pirates life For Me,they both had groundbreaking effects, Paul Frees was in both rides, they both had movie adaptations of each ride (except sadly for Mansion Pirates was more successful) which the only thing the Mansion doesn't have that Pirates does is a movie tie in (at least not until the Del Toro film maybe).
I go to Disneyland three times a year, every time we go we have must go on rides, this is one of my must goes along with Thunder mountian, star tours, and Indiana jones.
Great job on the video. Excellent lighting throughout and superb balancing to keep the shakes down and blurring as minimal as possible. Definitely the best version of the ride through so far.
that was probably the first time l actually understood everything the pirates were saying, the video is so clear and awesome!. you must of got there super early.

This bring so much memories!! Ten years ago, the waiting line was like only 10 minutes, 30 minutes max. 2 minutes for the fast-pass track. Now, we have to wait for like 1 hours, 2 hours just to get on a 6-10 mins ride. Not complaining about the staffs service. Their service were excellent! It's just that when time passed by, things changed
I always loved this ride because i always imagine myself living in one of the shacks in the beginning, especially in the one with the guy playing the banjo in front.

For me every ride there has a certain smell. Just by watching the POV videos I can smell the ride and feel the cool air blowing on my face.. What they did with Disneyland is simply amazing...
The part right after the second drop 4:28 is LITERALLY the best part in the entire ride.... I absolutely love the way the soft music of the theme song playing slowly and the repeating statement: Dead men tell no tales.... the skeleton driving the wrecked boat but we can only see it when the lights flash indicating thunder crashing.... this is the part where the water smells the best and the whole part of the ride just gives off vibes of my childhood and it always takes me back.... why am I crying?
This ride and haunted mansion will always be my favorite. I remember coming here around Halloween. It was a late night and a Halloween celebration so almost no one was in the park. My family and I rode this on reapt like 15 times. I love it so much. Same with haunted mansion. I just love the animatronics and the smell😩. And how can I forget the songs

It is possibly my favorite ride, battling against thunder mountian and star tours
That's the first thing that rushed into my mind when he walked into the ride in the video. The smell. I love it.
Anyone else love the smell and fresh wind on that ride ?
Yep
Chlorinated heaven.
+candy k it's a blessing if you go in the summer.
The water calms me, for some reason. The smell of it reminds me eerily of the sea.
Yeah but yesterday when I went the water smelled bad.The only reason why I'm watching this is because I went yesterday XD
They should make a perfume called "Pirates of the Caribbean Water Smell" Like seriously it smells really good.
They have a candle for it
magiccandlecompany.comproducts/piratelife
Its called, the beach. Made by Cosmo Kramer
magiccandlecompany.com/products/piratelife Here's the link, they forgot the / between .com and products
Cracker Jack thx
etscent.com makes ones called flume, smells like the ride and is a room spray version, so maybe you can just use it as a perfume

They would never do that
Itz_Cryptic they won’t take it away because many people love it and it’s a classic
i would be super mad if they took down the ride
Not only does the ride still bring crowds, but it also was Walts last ride.
They may change it, but never take it out
I like how there is a restaurant next to the ride
Jake Salazar yeah some guy yelled at the people in the restraint for a piece of bread and some people actually threw bread at him 😂
Gamr Cupecakez yeah that was Shay Carl from the Shaytards channel 😂

“The Blue Bayou”. My friend is a cook in the kitchen. Who the hell is the guy sitting in front of the wooden cabin?

The water smells so good.
Because I was sitting on the very end, I really wanted to put my hands in it and taste it. I didn't, but I really wanted to.
I wish there was a candle with the scent of the water 😛

I was 5 and I cried and dropped my tinker bell in the water 😂
@Ella Kurtz it's actually a very tiny drop it's just the speed that you're going at and the darkness of the ride make it feel more intense
The smell is a cologne called "The Beach" by Calvin Klein, inspired by Cosmo Kramer
HahaHA😆
But they do have it ....Google “Pirates of the Caribbean Cologne”
Actually, the smell is just bromide that they use instead of chlorine to clean the water :P

Anthony Ianitello ya when the ride first opened they used real skeletons, but later replaced them all with fake ones, except the skull on the headboard of the dead captain in his bed.
This and the Haunted Mansion are still the best rides in the whole park.

I miss Disneyland hopefully I get to go again:)
I wish I could just go back in time and relive my favorite memories
I miss this ride so much 🥺❤️
The part right after the second drop 4:28 is LITERALLY the best part in the entire ride....
Somebody please tell me they feel the same.
