The incomparable Roger Taylor was/is a beast on drums and vocals!! This is ranked as the second greatest live performance with Live Aid ranked as the greatest live performance in rock history a title it still holds after 38 years ♥️👑🎸🎤🎹🥁
It was a filmed concert with the purpose of playing that in movies, but the band was pissed off by the crew, and according to Brian and Roger all the songs were played a bit faster than usually. This is one of the greatest live performances ever.
This performance was special and one of a kind, even for Queen. That last minute and a half or so with Freddie and Rodger just playing off each others vocals is magic.
I have watched this video of Queen many times. PERFECTION! I don't particularly like being old but I am so happy I lived through the time that music was "real." No auto-tune. No computer generated instrumentation. Thanks for your reaction.
They deviated because Brian had a guitar string break, so you see him disappear while Freddie struts the stage and engages the audience, while Roger keeps up those amazing beats. Brian comes back shortly and it was all so flawless you never even notice what happened. This is such a great performance by real professionals.
I was hoping somebody came and pointed that out. my absolute favorite part of every time I watch this video is watching Freddie watch the crowd and watch Brian at the same time while Roger just keeps going and going and going. Then Brian returns with a little fluff of the hair and a bit of a smile. I play violin and it takes me a moment to change the string. I can’t even imagine. 😂
Don't worry if you've never seen it, as long as your seeing it now! They recorded every single one of their live performances so with their expansive catalog you've got plenty to choose from. Hope you continue on your live Queen journey we'd love to join you 👑
Hello! Stopped by for the song. (Queen has been my go to for 50 years now.) I think I'll stay because, if you don't mind me saying, I like your look! Your appreciation of the song is excellent and I enjoyed your reaction, but the capper was your smile. You remind me of the late, great Rik Mayall and that's all the cred you need for my vote. The rest is gravy. Subbed!
Appreciate the sub! No worries at all! Is that the guy that played in “Drop Dead Fred?” I used to watch that as a kid! 🤣 Well thanks for stoping by and the kind words!
This band took their job as professional musicians seriously. They rehearsed often, tried a variety of techniques and sounds, and each wrote hit songs. There’s a reason Dave Grohl said “If you want to learn how to be a rockstar watch Freddie Mercury. If you want to know how a rock band should perform study Queen. “ Listening to Freddie perform with Queen spoiled us oldies for high quality, unique sounds of familiar songs. No two performances were the same. ❤RIP Freddie. Legend.
Freddie was a huge fan of Aretha Franklin. The story of this song is that Freddie’s arrangement was a tribute to Aretha Franklin and her gospel roots. This is one of my most favourite Queen songs. Thank you for reacting to this. 👏👏🥰🇨🇦
Pure talent... Freddie Mercury may you rest in heavenly peace I'm 69, and Queen is my favorite band of all time. I've watched this video along with many other of their videos, but this by far is my favorite. Absolutely pure talent ❤
I love this whole concert. It was recently shown in IMAX theaters for a couple of weeks only. I saw it twice and it was so good. The concert was filmed in 8mm film so it was perfect to adapt to IMAX format. The audio and video were crisp and perfect. It wasn't advertised by the band or by the theaters so had I not been following Brian and Roger on socials, I would have missed it. It was like in the old days when I would go to a Queen concert except I was seated in the theatre and on my feet the whole time at the show. Thank you for your reaction to this incredible performance.
That is awesome! Mannn I wish I would have known! Thanks so much for swinging by the channel! Queen is such a legendary band that will forever change the musical landscape! 🤘🏻
Queen and Freddie Mercury are and were something very special and unforgettable. His untimely death shocked the world. Queen with Adam Lambert still keep his legacy alive. Thank you for your great reaction and for sharing it with us.
One of the most reacted to performances on UA-cam and for good reason. Two more live performances that you will eventually react to are Jeff Healy playing “See The Light” and Jeff with Stevie Ray Vaughan doing “Little Sister”. Most people are astounded by them.
There is a live Queen song that you are going to love. It is my favorite Queen live performance right up there with this one as far as mind blowing perfection in a live performance. It is Queen: White Queen live at Odeon, Hammersmith 1975. There is a 1.75 minute instrumental portion that just blows my hair back every time.
I love your reactions!!! I was lucky to see them live in 1980 in Oakland, incredible, and we watched Live Aid, Live! Another great song from this concert is "Save Me", Freddie really nails that one as well..!!
You're right, this is a little faster than the studio version. They swapped the lush overdubs and production value for the immediacy and energy of a live concert. And they are masters of improvisation. Those 12 bars at the end are different in every performance. They were so tight as a group that one of them could change it up and no one would miss a beat. Can you imagine what a rush it must have been for them to play around like that almost without thinking! Nice reaction. I'm looking forward to you reacting to more Queen.
I absolutely love this performance. Most bands you want to listen to the studio version of their songs with Queen. It’s always gonna be better live. Their studio versions are always good too but there’s nothing like some live Queen. Great reaction my friend.❤️✌️🌼
Freddie (Farrokh Bulsara) had a four octave range. He had to drag out the drumming part because Brian had an issue with his guitar. You see Freddie watch for him to head back to the microphone and then he continued the song.
If you enjoyed this masterpiece, check out the other rare live performance of " White Queen " Odeon Hammersmith Live 1975. This hidden gem is hauntingly beautiful and insanely unique and definitely worth watching. I throughly enjoyed watching your reaction and I would love it if you would play more Queen, as the saying goes, if you play it, they will come! 👏💙👑
Brian May has an impressive voice too. If you haven’t yet checked out Brian’s version of “Too Much Love Will Kill You”, please do. I had no idea of his range until I heard that performance. 💜💕💜💕💜💕
Once again, young man, it's real. I saw them at Madison Square Garden in September of 1980 on this tour and again in July of 1982 for the "Hot Space" tour. I highly recommend watching "Save Me" from this same show. It was a new song written by Brian off The Game album.
Queen is perfection ❤ they practiced, practiced, practiced so they wouldn't miss a beat! One prefomance you will be blown away by is early Queen preforming "White Queen" at the Hammersmith Oden. It is hard to believe its so perfec, and not a lot of play❤❤❤❤
New sub here simply because of your reaction to my main man Freddie & the boys!! You should really continue the live reaction videos. They were one of the very few bands who truly were better live! Pick anything from Montreal 81 or Wembley 86 or Budapest 86, Rock in Rio, Live Aid 85. Any song live by them will blow you away!! Welcome to the “Queendom”!!
Yes it’s faster than the studio cut. Most songs were usually performed faster. They are very tight, yet managed to have a lot of freedom at the same time. No 2 performances are ever the same. BoRap from this show is amazing.
I always have to click on a Montreal reaction, ahh what a treat! Your great smile throughout made me smile. Thanks 😊 Queen who we all know and love but don’t really get to know them until we see these live clips
HEYYYYYY!!! I just recently discovered your channel… I really like it, EXCEPT for the fact you didn’t have any reactions to Queen or Freddie Mercury solo… yet! P.S. Do you know that Freddie co-wrote/recorded an album of OPERA? Titled Barcelona, with Spanish operatic soprano Montserrat Caballé. Freddie was actually the FIRST professional musician to cross music genres and partner/collaborate on an album with another professional musician from a different field of music.
I know we’ve been slipping not having any Queen! 🤣 Definitely more to come in the near future! I didn’t know that he co-wrote an Opera album! I can definitely see it though as it has influence in many of their tunes! Have a great one and thanks for the insight!
@@setonhillstudios’K, Well good… Now I can subscribe.🤗 (I have a “rule”: I never subscribe to a channel, UNLESS they’ve reacted to Queen/Freddie, and I usually wait until they react to something “above & beyond” THIS video you just did, AND also the Bohemian Rhapsody official MV… Because EVERYONE under the Sun reacts to those two (and then never anything else Queen/Freddie). I’m just “holding you to your word” that there’ll be more in the future! 😅
Thanks for your enthusiastic reaction! It warms my heart to hear your appreciation of the greatest band in the world, and of Roger’s vocal prowess, too!
I always feel that Roger Taylor's vocals are sadly underappreciated, thanks. And yes, as suggested below, PLEASE do the entire Live Aid set. Freddie was sick as a dog and still rocked it with Roger's help. I remember being glued to the tv for the entirety of Live Aid and even though I'm a die hard Bowie fan, Queen delivered the best performance, hands down.
My favorite Queen song EVER!! Freddie wrote this inspired by his love for Aretha Franklin, hoping one day she would sing one of his songs!! This performance is perfection, no doubt!! May I recommend STONE COLD CRAZY live in Hammersmith (a song that Metallica covered earning them a Grammy). James Hetfield (Metallica) sings with the remaining members of Queen at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert 1992. Fantastic!! ⚡️⚡️
Sadly, Brian had a minor stroke a few weeks back, but has managed to get full control of his left fingers back again. I did not know until recently that Roger turned down the offer to join Genesis and the job was given to someone called Phil instead.
Hey, Drummer! Yep, I'm sure you can appreciate Roger here.. as I understand it, it's pretty difficult for drummers to also sing.. and Roger nails it... Brian on guitar is also a good vocalist (hope your get around to some of his great solo stuff)... and of course, John on the bass holds it all down... I love Freddie.. so charismatic and vocally unmatched... but as I think you can see, this was a whole BAND.. not just Freddie & some back-up guys... Don't know if you know, but this entire concert has recently been released in IMAX.. unfortunately, so far it's been pretty limited.. can't find it in my area (SW Wisconsin).. but if you can, I'm sure it will blow you away.. I was not at this particular concert, but did see them on the same tour... just amazing.. appreciate your reaction and look forward to more...
Thanks so much! Someone else was sharing that about the IMAX thing which would be killer to see on the BIG screen! Yeah drumming and singing adds a whole new element because not only is every limb doing something different now you have to create a melody over top of that! Roger was a master at that! Queen is a generational talent that will live on forever! More Queen on the channel for sure! Have a great one!
This is the best recorded concert that I'm aware of. "Save me" is another unmissable highpoint from this show. As a drummer you should really appreciate "I'm in love with my car" (yes, also from this one). Roger Taylor goes insane, my friend!!
@@setonhillstudios Just stumbled across your channel and I am enchanted. Your reactions are so genuine! One of my qualifications on Quora is "Good music gives me goosebumps". I love seeing young folks enjoying the soundtrack of my youth.
Thank you for your reaction...Freddie wrote this song as a tribute to Aretha Franklin....he had hoped that she would sing it one day.....the name of the ace of bass is John Deacon...he wrote some of their biggest hits....Hi John, we hope you’re keeping well🌺
Great reaction. You should listen to Killer Queen/I'm in Love with My Car from the same concert. Fat Bottom Girls live at Milton Keynes is great too. I always love someone who appreciates Roger. Keep up the great job.
Queen is all about deviating a bit…Freddie said if you want to hear the exact studio version, listen to the record. They rehearsed these deviations and how & when they were going to involve the audience. They knew what they were doing 😊
Freddie Mercury was THE GREATEST SHOWMAN EVER!! He lived for the music and the stage! And Queen the Band itself was UNIQUE! But not to forget the rest of the Bands members: Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon! All four of Queen were/still are great musicians and wrote great songs! Together they were AMAZING!!❤😊
P.S. Feel free to stop at any time and extol the virtues of the eminent RM Taylor. That anybody can play drums and sing gets kudos-but when you do it as well as he does, hell yes. (I highly recommend his solo stuff, esp. anything off his first solo record, "Fun In Space". Try "My Country i & ii" just for fun and see if it's not as resonant today as it was when it came out 43 years ago.) Rock on, dude!
@@setonhillstudios He wrote some stuff for Freddie after his passing that is absolutely stunning, esp. a track called "Old Friends" from his "Happiness?" album. "Foreign Sand" from the same album is also required listening. Especially now. Happy listening!
You really need to watch the whole performance on Live aid. If you only react to the songs you will be missing out on so much. Freddy's connection with the audience is unreal.
As you mentionend drummer Roger Taylor singing ... Roger had an own band, called "The Cross", too. And he did some amazing solo albums! I love his album "Happiness...!?". Guitarist Brian May had projects, too. "The Starfleet Project" for example and some great solo records as well! As you are a drummer, you might heard of "Cozy Powell"...? He was the drummer in the "Brian May Band". His drum solo in Brian Mays 1993 live version at Brixton Accademy - song "Resurrection" - is epic and "hits" different. Maybe you want to check that (!) out!? You don't have to react to it, but it's worth to take a look at it! :)
I don't think that Rodger Taylor's drum beats were this same on the actual studio version I like this one better.. I could watch this live version a thousand times and never get tired of it
There is a whole concert of this that you would enjoy with commentary from Brian and Roger done when it was remastered in 2014. You would totally love it! ua-cam.com/play/PLabsZG0_wTqzlW5K8LFpeAmbqWtwfOu32.html
Okay Hon, REQUEST…… There’s actually ANOTHER live version of “Somebody To Love” which has a “hardcore following” of Queen fans, who will tell you that it’s EVEN. BETTER. than what you saw here: At MILTON KEYNES “FIRE AT THE BOWL” in 1982! This other rendition tends to be overlooked and “fly under the radar” since the Montreal video was filmed in such HIGH HD. (And, the Montreal gig IS a letter-perfect example of how to do a show the Right Way.) BUT… it is actually the 1982 MILTON KEYNES BOWL rendition of this song, which Queen chose to put in their official compilation of Best Live Performances. AND… believe-it-or-not, EVERY. SINGLE. REACTOR who has watched the Milton Keynes performance of “Somebody To Love”, has said they’re even MORE IMPRESSED/they like it even MORE. (Honestly, I’m NOT exaggerating. 99% of the reactors liked Milton Keynes BETTER; there was just one who couldn’t choose.🤫) Actual quotes from reactors: “Milton Keynes is LEAGUES above Montreal!” “Montreal is the appetizer, Milton Keynes Bowl is the MEAL.”
Wow!!! Now you’ve sparked my curiosity! Thanks for sharing! We are definitely going to have to check it out and see what all the hype is about! Appreciate it!
@@setonhillstudiosFYI… The video footage doesn’t have the high HD of Montreal (it’s outdoors at night) BUT: There are a couple copies of the video on “unofficial” (but perfectly LEGIT) individually fan-owned/managed channels, that have been REMASTERED/UPGRADED. (Sometimes Queen official is a little slow upgrading their stuff; their fan base gets impatient.😅) There’s an EXCELLENT QUALITY version of the video on: Chief Mouse channel

Freddie was pure spectacle!
Absolutely! Such a talented showman!
Fantastic!! ⚡️⚡️
Thanks for the suggestion and swinging by the channel! Absolutely phenomenal and definitely more Queen to come here on the channel! Have a great one!
Just subscribed to see more Queen reactions from you
Thanks so much! ❤️
More queen please 😊
Definitely wants to check out some more!
This is the best recorded concert that I'm aware of.
"Save me" is another unmissable highpoint from this show.
As a drummer you should really appreciate "I'm in love with my car" (yes, also from this one).
Roger Taylor goes insane, my friend!!
Awesome, thanks for the suggestions!
Please check out "You Take My Breath Away" live at Hyde Park 76. Just Freddie at the piano and it's an absolute perfection.
❤QUEEN❤
I have this LP 😎
Yessss!!!! So killer!! Thanks for swinging by the channel! ❤️
@@setonhillstudios Just stumbled across your channel and I am enchanted. Your reactions are so genuine! One of my qualifications on Quora is "Good music gives me goosebumps". I love seeing young folks enjoying the soundtrack of my youth.
Thank you for your reaction...Freddie wrote this song as a tribute to Aretha Franklin....he had hoped that she would sing it one day.....the name of the ace of bass is John Deacon...he wrote some of their biggest hits....Hi John, we hope you’re keeping well🌺
Appreciate the info! Queen is such an iconic band that spans generations! Thanks for swinging by the channel!
Same concert, you must watch Under Pressure, Save Me, Dragon Attack - they are amazing
Appreciate it! Thanks for swinging by the channel and hanging out with us for a bit!
Freddie's actions weren't practiced, Brian has sad that they never knew what he was going to do, they just let him run with it.
💯 There was alot of improvisation going on especially from a musical standpoint! Thanks for watching!
Super!!!!!!!!!!!!
Indeed! Unbelievable performance!
top 3
Straight 🔥 🔥 🔥 indeed! Thanks for watching!
Great reaction. You should listen to Killer Queen/I'm in Love with My Car from the same concert. Fat Bottom Girls live at Milton Keynes is great too. I always love someone who appreciates Roger. Keep up the great job.
Thanks so much! Appreciate the suggestions and can’t wait to check them out! Have a great one! 😁
FREDDIE MERCURY
The G.O.A.T.
Queen FOREVER 😎
Yeah!!!.
💯 Such a a phenomenal band! Thanks for swinging by the channel! 🤘🏻
Freddy Mercury was the absolute best overall singers ever. Elvis being a close second. Freddy was just amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely unreal! His voice was one of a kind! 🔥
One best performances of all time check out I'm in love w/ my car from same show/Roger sings it!
Oh snap! I’ll have to give that a listen! This was phenomenal indeed! Thanks for watching! 😄
Queen is all about deviating a bit…Freddie said if you want to hear the exact studio version, listen to the record. They rehearsed these deviations and how & when they were going to involve the audience. They knew what they were doing 😊
Makes sense! And they were professional enough to listen and follow each other! Super tight band that will live on forever!
They are phenomenal!
I definitely have to check out some of his solo stuff! Yeah, his singing is unreal! And obviously he’s a beast of a drummer! 🔥
@@setonhillstudios He wrote some stuff for Freddie after his passing that is absolutely stunning, esp. a track called "Old Friends" from his "Happiness?" album. "Foreign Sand" from the same album is also required listening. Especially now. Happy listening!
@@cainealexander-mccord2805 Thank ya! Can’t wait to give it a listen!
Great drummer!
💯 Roger Taylor is such a beast on the drums and an incredible singer too!
Queen live at wembley stadium 1986 the magic tour
I bet it’s incredible!
You really need to watch the whole performance on Live aid. If you only react to the songs you will be missing out on so much. Freddy's connection with the audience is unreal.
GOAT ❤
🐐
Great reaction! You should do Dragon Attack from the same concert 🎶 !
I’ll add it to the list! Thanks so much for swinging by and hanging out for a bit! 🤘🏻
Freddy had a range of 4 octaves.
So wild! What a legendary singer and performer! EPIC!
Appreciate the info! Definitely have to check that stuff out! Have a great one! 😁
from the same concert, incredible performance by Roger Taylor singing on the drums: i'm love with my Car
Oh sweet! Thanks for the suggestion! Gotta check that out! 🤘🏻
You need to go search “Roger Taylor drum solo from Montreal 1981 and react to that. The man is so incredibly talented ❤
Appreciate the suggestion! We will add it to the list and thanks for hanging out with us!
Superman wears a Freddie Mercury shirt
Freddie used to say, its a performance. If they want its to sound just like the record .. they might as well stay home and listen to the album
So true!
I don't think that Rodger Taylor's drum beats were this same on the actual studio version
I like this one better.. I could watch this live version a thousand times and never get tired of it
Oh it was killer! Loved the drums too! The whole band was on fire 🔥
Roger Taylor kills it here❤❤❤❤❤❤
You may want to check out VoicePlay Queen in 5 Minutes.
We actually covered it and it was amazing! Go to our Homepage and you can find it under the playlist ‘Bands and Groups.’ Thanks! 😁
@@setonhillstudios Before I found you. Thank you.
There is a whole concert of this that you would enjoy with commentary from Brian and Roger done when it was remastered in 2014. You would totally love it! ua-cam.com/play/PLabsZG0_wTqzlW5K8LFpeAmbqWtwfOu32.html
Thanks so much! I will have to check that out! 😁
Okay Hon,
REQUEST……
There’s actually ANOTHER live version of “Somebody To Love” which has a “hardcore following” of Queen fans, who will tell you that it’s EVEN. BETTER. than what you saw here:
At MILTON KEYNES “FIRE AT THE BOWL” in 1982!
This other rendition tends to be overlooked and “fly under the radar” since the Montreal video was filmed in such HIGH HD. (And, the Montreal gig IS a letter-perfect example of how to do a show the Right Way.)
BUT… it is actually the 1982 MILTON KEYNES BOWL rendition of this song, which Queen chose to put in their official compilation of Best Live Performances.
AND… believe-it-or-not, EVERY. SINGLE. REACTOR who has watched the Milton Keynes performance of “Somebody To Love”, has said they’re even MORE IMPRESSED/they like it even MORE. (Honestly, I’m NOT exaggerating. 99% of the reactors liked Milton Keynes BETTER; there was just one who couldn’t choose.🤫)
Actual quotes from reactors:
“Milton Keynes is LEAGUES above Montreal!”
“Montreal is the appetizer, Milton Keynes Bowl is the MEAL.”
Wow!!! Now you’ve sparked my curiosity! Thanks for sharing! We are definitely going to have to check it out and see what all the hype is about! Appreciate it!
@@setonhillstudiosFYI… The video footage doesn’t have the high HD of Montreal (it’s outdoors at night) BUT:
There are a couple copies of the video on “unofficial” (but perfectly LEGIT) individually fan-owned/managed channels, that have been REMASTERED/UPGRADED. (Sometimes Queen official is a little slow upgrading their stuff; their fan base gets impatient.😅)
There’s an EXCELLENT QUALITY version of the video on:
Chief Mouse channel
Well duh…it’s fricking Freddie! GOAT. That’s all.
🤣🤣 Fair point! ❤️
If you want to hear Roger sing try Killer Queen/as it flows into I'm in Love with my Car. Same concert. Ty
Awesome! Thanks so much for the info! Have a great one! 😄
John Decon looks like he cut school to be there...
Haha 🤣😂 No doubt! Thanks for hanging out with us!
