Moonshine actually started with Irish immigrants coming to the US and setting up stills for poitin. It was usually made at night to avoid the lawmen since it was illegal, or "made by the moon's shine." This is also how NASCAR got started. The bootleggers who transported the shine had to have fast cars to outrun lawmen, and eventually decided to start racing each other on a track to see who was the best. So moonshine and NASCAR are a direct result of the Irish and their drinking...I've never been more proud of my ancestry 😆
It started way back before the revolution. They hid their production from the British to not pay taxes. Then as soon as Washington became president, he put a tax on alcohol and they kept making it in secret. Now the law allows people to distill their own as a hobby, as long as you make less than a certain amount each year. The stuff at the store called moonshine has little resemblance to the real stuff.
8:15 that transition was pure gold, "you don't drink Fireball whiskey because you like it. who likes Fireball?" immediate next comment, "I love Fireball whiskey."
Real shine is clear and it goes down very smooth and easy but when it hits the bottom it comes back up like whooo and a smile will be on your face. God Bless America!

The cinnamon one is my favorite. Just a nip, barely covers the bottom of the glass, before bed. Warms me and makes me feel all floaty. Best way to fall asleep.
"Mountain Dew" was originally Southern and/or Scots-Irish slang for moonshine (i.e., homemade whiskey or poitín), as referenced in the Irish folk song "The Rare Old Mountain Dew", dating from 1882. The soda, whose recipe has changed over time, was invented as a mixer to drink with "Mountain Dew".

Actually the history of Moonshine goes back much furhher than the uproar of Prohibition era USA. Since the beginning of the country, most of the economy was based on agriculture and farming. And the while the majority of the crops were used wither for sale or subsistence, farmers would produce much more product than they could use. And since vegetables spoiled ao much faster (due to the lack of a consistent way to preserve them) liquor was made from the excess. Not only did it give a use for the leftovers, it also made a product that couldn't spoil AND its new form made it much easier to transport and save. So much so that in many areas of the country, it became a stable form of currency. Anle to be bartered for other goods and services. Moonshine's effects are so engrained in US history, that is was used medicinally during the Civil War, a cheap substitute for alcohol during the Old West, and of course a "safer," "cheaper," plentiful substitute during Prohibition.
the laws in New Zealand changed in around the late 1980's, and then home distilling was allowed, no licenses or permits or declarations are required. No records needed. Go for it. Make any amount you want. (Of whatever you want to make) But sell it, the law will come to meet you "head on"....... Customs, Police and Health Authorities. Along with HUGE fines. So, if you make your own, that's not a problem. Share it at a barbeque or socially, by way of hospitality or friendship, no worries. (No money or other consideration is allowed). There are home brew shops all over the place with all the supplies that you need, including the flavourings for the different types of spirits and liqueurs.

Recently moved to Tennessee and decided to try the Moonshine. Normally I only ever drink Jameson's, but I'll admit that I'm enjoying the Orangesicle moonshine. Though the drunk reminds me a bit too much of my old Midnight Dragon 40 oz days back in NYC.
The recipe for Smoky Mountain Moonshine was handed down to the grandson who went legit with it. I bought it from the old man years ago thru a friend. Glad you liked it. It's the only whiskey I can drink and not be hungover the next day.
We get it from the old fella that lives down in the bottoms, by the river, he has a little slide hatch in his side door. Get a discount if we bring the jars back.
Just the same as you don't buy edibles in Colorado unless you buy it off some dude you met at the bar. It's either going to do nothing, or you'll go blind.
Ole Smoky is pretty good. I’d love to see a video where you send the Irish alchys to Pigeon Forge, TN or Gatlinburg, TN to experience the taproom tastings! The bartenders are hilarious and it gives a larger information set to better inform the customer.
Despite what people might think, a large portion of Florida are country folk. Back along the St. Johns River in Brevard county back in the day which for me was 1980 you could get real shine and orange shine. I had my first shot at 14. It'll make you do an Irish jig.
You really need to try their combo moonshines like caramel apple or peanut butter and jelly.. I don’t know how they do it but the first flavor hits when you drink it and then the second comes as you breath out

A cousin volunteered at the towns firehouse and someone from another county would bring them moonshine now and again. It almost went down like water it was so smooth but you had better either stay standing or sitting down. You change to the other and boy did it seem to kick in )
Best I ever had didn't burn a bit hit the stomach, and a warm glow /wave came from my stomach. I couldn't believe it didn't have any burn at all
@@AppalachianRancher it's the best.
I love old smoky. The creme flavors are 🔥. Chocolate brownie is my favorite
Clisare is such a ray of sunshine, even on a cloudy day!
The butter pecan is ridiculously good as well as the pickle moonshine with actual pickle spears soaking in the moonshine. Great for Bloody Mary's!
Again Pagan knows her good music. I know that MCR is definitely on the mainstream side though
Her favorite band is Trivium which is sick!! Smart, sassy, and a metalhead...triple threat!! lol
@@chadscatharsis3287 Yeah. That made me happier than I would have thought😁 Seeing proud metalhead that also seems like absolutely lovely person
I like Ole Smoky. Been drinking it FOR YEARS. My parents used to have a vacation home in the town where it's made.
“That’s why we do this and you don’t,” 😂 Brilliant.
Was kind of hoping to see the Ole Smoky Cream Moonshines. Their Banana Pudding Cream moonshine is FANTASTIC!
*_"All I want for Christmas is my two Try Pagans!"_*
We love you Pagan!!!
I tried dill pickle moonshine last year and it was amazing. Wasn't expecting to like it at all but it was so damn good.
More Ole Smoky videos please! They have enough flavors to do so many shoots!
I was going to say the same thing. 😄
If ya can use it in a carburetor its moonshine
The recipe for Smoky Mountain Moonshine was handed down to the grandson who went legit with it. I bought it from the old man years ago thru a friend. Glad you liked it. It's the only whiskey I can drink and not be hungover the next day.
You don't buy moonshine in a liquor store. You buy MOONSHINE out some dude's trunk at the mouth of the holler.
😂😂😂
We had some class a hooch and bold azz cars.. signed M
@@PricelessBinkey1337but Lord what a trip friend 😂😂😂 real women pound liquor not beer.
Ole Smoky is pretty good. I’d love to see a video where you send the Irish alchys to Pigeon Forge, TN or Gatlinburg, TN to experience the taproom tastings! The bartenders are hilarious and it gives a larger information set to better inform the customer.
There's so many more flavors so you guys better have a part 3!!!!
Seriously. There's so many good flavors of this
I find it interesting how there’s often disagreement between the different pairings, there’s rarely disagreement within a pairing.
I fucking love Pagan!
❤
@@tomfuchary I'd seriously worry about anyone who didn't!!!
Dermot and Colin are the perfect match. They look like they know exactly what each is thinking. None stop laughter!😂
Yeah. Unaged corn whiskey. The good stuff is very good, the bad stuff will literally kill you.
Despite what people might think, a large portion of Florida are country folk. Back along the St. Johns River in Brevard county back in the day which for me was 1980 you could get real shine and orange shine. I had my first shot at 14. It'll make you do an Irish jig.
Obviously Pagan was the best part - adorbs - but Dermot and Colin making one another laugh really, very much made my day. Thank you all.
Watching this is giving me heartburn
"Who loves fireball?"
"I LOVE FIREBALL" Great edit hahahaha
You really need to try their combo moonshines like caramel apple or peanut butter and jelly.. I don’t know how they do it but the first flavor hits when you drink it and then the second comes as you breath out
Love seeing you back Clisaire😊
My Irish family came from Ireland just to make moonshine in the states during prohibition. I exist because of moonshine in a way so I just have to say it's probably the most important thing ever made.
My Grandfather sold Moonshine by the barrel to Al Capone in Hell Hole Swamp South Carolina in the 1930s.
My Great Uncles made and ran Moonshine in SC,NC,Georgia until about 10 years ago....

They need to try the sipping creams! They are so good!
