Do you really need vitamin A for your immune system? This video might surprise you.

0:00 Why vitamin A is essential for the immune system

In this video, I want to talk to you about vitamin A and your immune system. Now, I’ve done plenty of other videos on the role of zinc, vitamin D, and vitamin C in the immune system, but I haven’t touched on vitamin A yet.
Vitamin A is an essential part of the immune system. A vitamin A deficiency will leave your body susceptible to infections-especially in the respiratory system, including your lungs, sinuses, and throat.
You need vitamin A for your mucous membranes. In particular, vitamin A is required for the creation of mucin. Mucin is an essential part of the mucus membrane.
Vitamin A is also involved in the epithelial layer and lymphatic system layer. Each of these acts as a barrier for microbes.
When pathogens enter the body, your body triggers macrophages. These are large phagocytic cells that consume pathogens and clean up other harmful debris. Macrophages are your body’s first line of defense against infection.
Your thymus gland, which is right above the heart, helps train your immune cells. The thymus can actually activate and synthesize vitamin A.
Vitamin A is also required for dendritic cells and neutrophil traps.
When you’re low in vitamin A, your risk increases for:
    • Ulcerative colitis
    • MS
    • Psoriasis
    • Lupus
How can you get more vitamin A? The best source of vitamin A are:
    • Beef
    • Liver
    • Cod liver oil
    • Mackerel
    • Salmon
    • Goat cheese
    • Butter
    • Cream cheese
    • Eggs
    • Vegetables (pre-vitamin A in carotenoid form)

Thanks Dr Berg. Though it goes without saying, I find it refreshing to hear, from a medical professional, on the benefits of particular vitamins and the foods that you can get them from. I always thought that dietitians lacked the pertinent medical information to properly explain the why's of certain foods or diets.
In general, like you Dr Berg, it is good to see doctors taking a more balanced approach to medicine, utilizing both the Germ Theory and Terrain Theory in medical practice today. I don't like having to be reliant on pills and manufactured drugs and supplements, but, in the same breath, it's good to know you can substitute manufactured products, if you cannot obtain or ingest specific foods that you may require.
I am still working to maintain a healthy balance of foods and drugs, but old outdated habits are hard to break. My financial situation also has a lot to do with my health. I cannot afford to maintain all of the specific foods I would like to, or need to, in order to eat a healthier diet. Improper eating habits is part of the reason I have the health issues I do today. With your health, and the help of my new doctor, I hope to rectify my situation, and live a healthier lifestyle.
    Thanks again Dr Berg.

Good video. I did a video on this too. I am always taking to my clients about Vitamin A. Vitamin A is super important and must be accompanied by Vitamin D. In order to make Retinol out of Beta Carotene you need about 7 units of Beta Carotene for one unit of Vitamin A and you need lots of saturated fat. This process does not work very well in children, the elderly or people with metabolic problems.

Most of what one reads about vitamin A these days concerns the dangers of getting too much of it. My vitamin D3 supplement had been working out so well that I considered switching to cod liver oil. Since I eat the foods on Dr. Berg's list daily, I backed off of the idea through fear.

@@Kassiusday nah Beta caratene and it's usefulness is heavily dependant on your genetics wheter you can convert it to Vitamin A and also absorb it. If your genetics on both ends are poor then you're simply not going get enough. That's why it's recommended to get Vitamin A from meats, fish & eggs and you can't overdose on it either unless you decide to eat dog liver. Beta carotene from plants should never be a focus, so don't eat Carots for the sake of trying to increase your Vitamin A consumption

The thymus gland helps synthesize vitamin A but many people lose their thymus gland after about 65 through thymic gland involution.
Many people drink green drinks which deplete zinc or eat raw kale salads or bread or wheat which have phytates that block the absorption of zinc

Finally touched on the vitamin (in its active form: ATRA) that I have personally seen the highest efficacy with in combating viral infections and various skin infections. It’s deficiencies-in the literature-are directly correlated with a drop in Natural Killer Cell production. You should do more videos on retinoids, in their natural form of course, as they have profound effects in their binding to genetic response elements to alter gene expression and protein synthesis.

I'm getting an idea of the vitamins I need, (video idea: What Vitamins to Take & How Much), but I don't know how much. Example, one video Berg says 2,000. of D3 a day, then 10,000 i.u a day in another video. I want the maximum amounts for each vitamin, to be tapered off once my levels are up, then (A chart was promised, not forthcoming), a list of foods, and amounts of each vitamin/ mineral/ supplement expected from each food source, at which time-having established that my levels are sufficient-I use food to provide the new levels, not maximum levels maintenance levels. (NOTE: Flaw: You can say this plant has that mineral but if the soil is deficient it won't provide that. Example: I bought a certain brand of pasture raised organic eggs, but the egg shell were thick like a sheet of paper and the yolks we're pale yellow, no caretinouds, ergo, no plant source caretinoids).

Well that won’t do anything unfortunately. Liver is what is needed and grass fed animal products. Vegetables are not very bio available. Could cause malnutrition in the long run.

Dr. Berg, what is dosage for vitamin A? It's all over the place! High doses suppose to be toxic, but some recommend very high doses. Thank you so much. ❤

how many dosage of vit A supplement you recommend doc?
i have a sinus and mucus problem thats why i need this vit A..thanks for the answer..

    • @asianguyinmd
      @asianguyinmd 4 роки тому

Eat beef/ chicken liver or liver patee spread is more effective than taking vit A supplement cause they're most likely synthetic version (retinyl palmitate) or beta carotene (non active) that needs to be converted to retinol (active vit A). Conversion from beta carotene to retinol is poor that's why beef/chicken liver is more superior. I always feel better after I eat liver.
