Perhaps it could also be a wise pokemon who acts as a guide/captain to young seels, as a slight reference to Proteus from Greek mythology--- He is a prophetic old man of the sea and a shepherd of all seals. His name comes from the word "protean" since he is versatile, so it would be a great opportunity to have Protean as a hidden ability.

I think Kricketune has one of the best designs in all of gen 4 so an evolution needs to be really solid. It should get a bug type equivalent of liquid voice

If Beartic did receive an evolution, I personally think an Ice/Fighting, or Ice/Dark type would make a lot more sense. Beartics are often shown to be hostile and territorial Pokemon. Often picking fights whenever someone enters their territory to show their strength and ferocity.
Pokemon change when they evolve, scyther isn't made of metal, metapod can't fly,ursaring isn't covered in mud, trapinch isn't draconic,etc It doesn't need to fit the original pokemon otherwise we would have 9 normal type eeveelutions

Scyther into Scizor require a Metal Coat, and Ursaring into an Ursaluna require a Peat Block while under a full moon. And the whole Metapod can't fly bit? You are aware the Metapod is based on a cocoon, right? The in-between form of when a caterpillar turns into a butterfly, right? The Caterpie inside the Metapod is undergoing a metamorphosis, resulting it it gaining wings, and the ability to fly. And as for Trapinch? While it is strange that it becomes part Dragon when it evolves into Vibrava, it's still fitting, as it's very similar to who dragonflies mature. Starts off as something that look nothing like an actual dragonfly, only for it's baby body to break open, revealing their true bodies. Not to mention, Many Pokemon do stay the same, in terms of personality, when they evolve. A lot of Pokemon who're seen as hostile in the wild tend to stay the same when they evolve. Or, in Beartic's case, starts off as a Cubchoo, who're commonly seen as curious or timid. But when Cubchoo evolves and become Beartic, they are commonly seen as hostile and territorial.
Jynx needs an evolution too. The trio of Magmar, Electabuzz and Jynx got a baby form in gen 2 but idk why they abandoned Jynx in gen 4 when they came up with Magmortar and Electivire

Kricophony (Cricket + cacophony) a bug steel type with a high base speed that specializes in lowering opponent’s stats through harsh and disorienting noises! Or Crikymfoni (Cricket and symphony) a bug fairy that has high bulk and specializes in team based buffs through inspiring songs!
For Pokemon that need an evolution, I usually look at those with low base stats and have gotten nothing later on. Chimeco and Lanturn come to mind as they have ok stats, but no evolution and instead a preevolution.
Could do the same thing with Chatot too. Maybe give them an ability called “cut time” which speeds up the tempo that sound based moves are made at giving them priority on those attacks. Just make sure neither of them are normal type to avoid priority specs Boomburst. Also for Chatot an electric flying type with Electric Voice for an ability would be cool too.
There should be a Pokémon that you can only get by breeding to specific Pokémon so you know, for Polartic it could have a middle and first evolution and you would get it by breeding Ursa ring, and the polar bear thing I forgot
Given Beartic's interestingly high proclivity for water (swift swim for rain and solid water coverage moves), Beartic becoming an Ice/Water type for its evo would fit better than Ice/Fairy, personally speaking.
I was thinking of a bear counterpart to ursaluna and I came up with evolving Beartic into Solabear thought it would be funny to associate an ice Pokémon with the sun and turn a polar bear into a solar bear
I used a Kricketune to defeat Cynthia. I didn’t even know it’s BST was so low. I just wanted to use it since I like the design. It had technician and I have it a metronome with fury cutter so my moves were being boosted from 60 to at most 420 base damage. X-scissor hit like a truck.
I thought about making a onyx evolution and making it lizard like by giving it legs and a second horn as if it were mimicking charazard a timy bit And for Scyther i wanted to basically make it bug dragon, give it a second set of arms, give it's tail some lenth, and make its scythes flexible similar to a praying mantis , give it a fuzzy neck and a horn or some antenna
Kricketune doesn't need to evolve, it needs to be on the first route and have a better move pool. You either love it enough to push past its weaknesses or you box it like butterfree when you start finding stronger pokemon.
